I swore I'd never step foot in an Aldi. Never. I had standards. Taste. I'm the kind of woman who alphabetizes her spice rack and judges people based on their cheese drawer. So when I heard whispers that Aldi might carry Egg Life wraps? I laughed. Mocked, even. As if the same place that sells lawn chairs next to frozen tilapia could possibly carry the one item I had been chasing like a low-carb lunatic across all of Johnson County. But desperation does wild things to a woman. I had searched high, low and emotionally unstable. Whole Foods? Ghosted me. Sprouts? Played me. Trader Joe's? Cute, but no. My fridge was empty and my hope? Evaporating. So, with a shaky hand and a heart full of doubt, I took a quarter--an actual metal coin like it's 1987--and entered Aldi on my lunch break. And there they were. My precious Egg Life wraps. Just... sitting there, smug in the cooler like, "Took you long enough." I gasped. Time slowed. A child cried somewhere in the background. A manager asked if I was okay. No, sir, I'm not okay--I'm in the middle of a personal redemption arc. Now? I'm in Aldi weekly. Sometimes twice. I walk in like a woman reborn, tossing low-carb finds into my cart like I'm on a game show. Goat cheese? Yes. Off-brand cauliflower snacks that slap harder than name brand? Absolutely. I don't even recognize myself anymore. No, Aldi isn't glamorous. There are no chandeliers. You bag your own groceries like you're training for the Hunger Games. I'm doing a quick update on my review. I've resorted to only doing pickup orders because no matter what day of the week or what time of day I go, the lines are always really long. I have a permanently broken leg and can't stand in line for 20 mins. So I just do pickup orders on Instacart and it's so easy. I'm always met by a friendly employee who brings my order out to my car and they make life so much easier. There is a small $1.99 fee for a pickup order but it's more than worth it for someone like me!! read more

Nicely laid out, large, clean Aldi. I'm not a frequent Aldi shopper, but every time I go I think 'I need to come here more often.' They do have very good prices. The night I was here I was headed to a friend's house and she instructed me to go to Aldi and pick up a 'bag of tiny oranges and one of their bagged salads.' I didn't find a bag of tiny oranges, like clementines, but they did have a good price on medium sized navel oranges in a bag. I was very impressed with the selection of bagged salad. I chose a sunflower one that came with several types of greens, cabbage, kale, green onions, sunflower seeds, bacon, and an onion vinaigrette. It was quite tasty, although it had too much green onion in it IMO. I will definitely buy it again though, next time I remember to go to Aldi. read more

I have been a customer of Aldi ever since I was a little kid when the first store that I became aware of opened in KCK when I was the tender age of 13. So I've been quite familiar with aldi. my mother used to shop there all the time and I am continuing in her Legacy. First off let me say the store has gotten better over the years as far as available locations and upkeep. The decor kind of Remains the Same but the upkeep is what I'm most impressed with This location is by far the cleanest Aldi I have ever went into. The Isles are very wide making it very easy for people with multiple carts to get in and out without crashing into each other. I love that the fresh fruit is available right at the front of the store instead of way in the back. It's very well lit other Aldi stores kind of have a dimness about it, but this location makes visibility well as you shop. I remember in all the locations when I was younger it had a very dirty appearance sometimes. Isles would be unswept shelves were disheveled and hardly stocked fruit was just tossed everywhere, and that is why I was hesitant when I first came to this location. But oh boy, this location is extremely clean and efficient and I love shopping here. Lastly, the prices. Now I've heard quite a few people say that you can catch a real deal at all these but considering that I've been going to Aldis ever since I was 13, I will say the pricing of Aldi has changed dramatically over the years. You used to be able to get a pretty decent price but now they are just as pricey as any other grocery store now. You may be able to go in and find one or two items on sale but for the most part you're going to get hit just like you would anywhere else. In the end it's all in how you want you shopping experience and what you are willing to pay. Aldi is one of my go to's, but notice I said one of not the only. read more

For what it offers, I concur that this is a good place. I shopped around town for a few canned staples, you know, the same stuff you get at any grocery that you always have on hand (hint: most canned goods all come out of one or two processing centers, they only change the labels, not the quality of the food). Best prices by a good 10-15%. Some items couldn't find, I get that. The price labeling is sort of hit and miss, takes awhile, but likely part of the low cost. Definitely returning. See no reason to pay 15 cents more for the same can of black beans at Dillon's or 50 cents at the Merc. Note: to college kids, ditch the crap ramen and get here. read more

I love shopping at Aldi but do your research. They are not always the cheapest! The new building is clean and well organized. Shelves are always stocked. My only complaint is that there's always a long line for checkout (usually only one register open at a time) and products are not consistent. I find something I love then it is gone. read more

If you are someone who buys stuff based on name recongnition or familiarity, Aldi is not for you. Aldi is different than other grocery stores -- you have to have a quarter to use a cart, you have to bring your own bags and bag your groceries yourself, there are less options, they shelve everything in the boxes they came in and it appears less organized. Because if all these differences, they need less employees. That in addition to the fact that most of the items they sell are their store brand means that everything is cheaper here than other places. Produce is hit or miss. They have great Girl Scout cookie dupes and a lot of their packaged (non meats) are just as good or better than there name brand counter parts. How can you not love Aldi? Same stuff you get elsewhere at much better price. The Lawrence Aldi is like all the other stores. Same decor, same layout, same, same who cares about anything but the low prices? It is not difficult to find items in the store. Everyone is helpful and friendly, too. I've had questions about a product and the CSR have all been very patient and kind. It gets congested in the store. It is a small store and it's very popular. It's not a problem. I don't blame people for coming here. The prices are just too good. I am not crazy about the cart deposit thing. I understand why they do that but I never carry change. It's a pain but I'll do it for the prices. I also don't care that they do not give you bags for your groceries. That just encourages more conscientious shopping. I am glad they save money. You won't find a large variety of items but you'll give what you need. Can't go wrong with Aldi! read more

This review is an overall look at the Aldi chain. I've visited several stores, and there are minor differences between them, but everything here is applicable to this Lawrence location. If you've never been to an Aldi, you should go sometime. Aldi is a Germany-based discount grocery chain that operates throughout the United States. Because of German efficiency, all Aldi stores have a "same-ness" to them that expressed in their design and features. Aldi is also owned by the same trust that owns Trader Joe's. First, if you're a first-time Aldi visitor, be sure you have a quarter on you. As I said, Aldi has a German efficiency to it, and part of this is to keep costs down by eliminating the need for employees to retrieve carts from the parking lot. Your quarter will release a cart from the cart-corral at the front of the store, and returning it to that cart corral will return your quarter to you. For some this might be a turn-off and seem tacky that you would need to pay for a cart, but indeed you're not paying for a cart, you are using a coin to release the cart from the corral, and you only "pay" for the cart if fail to return it. Because of this, I have never been to an Aldi where the carts are not lined up in an orderly fashion in the main cart corral, and I've never had to worry about having my car dinged because a customer left a cart loose in the parking lot. The interior of Aldi is again indicative of that German efficiency. Aldi is grocery store, but one unlike many modern mega-marts or super-groceries. For many products, Aldi carries one type of that product, typically a store brand. You aren't going to comparison-shop one brand of flour versus another, as there is only one brand carried -- the Aldi store brand. In one sense this relieves some of the issues of grocery shopping -- if you want flour, you get the flour they have. If you want sugar, you get the sugar they have. Nearly every product in the store is a brand of Aldi; to be sure there are different manufacturer labels on packages, but nearly every product in the store is manufactured by Aldi or specifically for Aldi under Aldi's brand labels. The potato chips are Clancy's, manufactured by and for Aldi. The bread is L'Oven Fresh, manufactured by and for Aldi. Prices vary, but Aldi prices on products are typically 10-25% less than comparable products from supermarkets. In my experience with Aldi merchandise, everything I have purchased has been very satisfactory to great. For household staples, there is really no way to go wrong. For other products, I have never been disappointed in the quality of foods bought there. One other thing sets Aldi apart from a traditional grocery -- the "aisle of bargains" (for lack of a better term) that hold the Special Buys of the week. In addition to selling house-brand groceries, Aldi also carries a rotating stock of household goods, sold in a set of bins usually located in the middle of the store. The unusual quality of this is that the items carried vary widely from kitchen accessories, to small appliances, to household electronics, to clothing, to toys, et c. Typically these products change on a weekly basis, so if you saw the Aldi-brand silicone baking sheets on sale this week, you had better stop in and get them, because they will be replaced next week with a different product. Fortunately, you can check what the special buys are on the Aldi website, so you can see prior to your visit if there is something special to get in this week's bargain zone. In addition to dry goods, Aldi carries a comparable selection of dairy, frozen goods, and produce, though these are again somewhat limited from the selection of a much larger supermarket. There is some difference among Aldi stores in different states. One feature of Aldi Germany is that there is reasonable liquor selection. In Kansas, our grocery and liquor laws don't allow for these products to be sold in groceries, but the Aldi website shows stores in other states that carry beer and wine. One last thing to consider is payment -- Aldi does not accept most US credit cards except for Discover (as stated on Wikipedia). Therefore, you must be ready to pay for your groceries with cash or debit cards (again referencing Wikipedia). Aldi also generally does not have freely available grocery bags -- you must either bring bags from home (like re-usable shopping bags), purchase bags at checkout (typically 5-10 cents per bag), or use the store's discarded boxes to pack out your purchases. My typical experience is to take the whole cart to my vehicle, load the groceries into bags or boxes at the car, and then return the cart to the corral for the return of my quarter. In one sense, Aldi is very similar to the beloved Trader Joe's -- a small-store grocery chain that carries primarily house-brand products. Aldi falls in a bit more as a locus of household staples whereas Joe's appeals more to an upscale consumer. read more

If you like Trader Joes, but live in Lawrence and don't want to drive to KC, I highly recommend you check out the often-overlooked Aldi. They have the same parent company and the same low prices for some great food (they only carry one brand of each thing, to bring you the savings). Yes, you have to deposit a quarter to "rent" a cart and bring your own bags, but some of the deals are totally worth it. Overall the cheapest milk in town, as well as awesome (and sometime random) specials on their store brand. Worth a stop in, especially for their maple cookies and the smoke cheddar slices. read more

I would love to give this store 5 stars based on the cleanliness and prices of the store, but because of our experience with our cashier, Samantha, it is one star. The moment we walked up to the register (which was just us) she demanded we start loading our food on the belt. Then proceeded to tell us to hurry up, and "I'm the cashier that throws groceries". Then as she was loading our groceries into the cart, she was slamming them back into the cart without care or consideration. Next, she pushed the cart to my friend in an aggressive manner without warning. After telling her she was actually rude and unnecessary, she proceeded to have zero care or worry about customer service. I get the business model and understand efficiency, but at no means should friendly service be compromised. Thank you, and Aldi's products and prices still rock! read more

Aldi is great for most grocery staples. The checkers at the LFK store are the best. It's usually pretty busy, but not super tedious if you are considerate and patient. It's clean, efficient and always surprising :) read more
