I had such a bizarre experience at Dillard's on Black Friday. I was there with my mom and she was primarily the one shopping. She was searching for nice shirts. I don't know if the folks working were just bored or if it was company policy, but they followed us around like hawks for our entire visit. It was like they thought our tax brackets were too low to be shopping there. At one point, I lost track of my mom and tried to call her but apparently Dillard's is a dead zone for phone service, so I was clearly looking for her and one of the workers looked *extremely* concerned and approached me about it. We went into a dressing room to try on *three* shirts and in that time period, literally what, 3 minutes?, one of the ladies working knocked on the door to make sure we were okay. Seriously? We were going to buy all three shirts, but it turns out that none of them were on sale. A basic sweater that said "Merry" on it was going for ~$90, so I said nevermind to that one and the woman looked mildly annoyed despite still making a close to $100 sale from us. But why would a department store have no promotions whatsoever on Black Friday of all days? Really just so strange. I won't be back. read more

I'm trying to order a dress for a wedding I'm in dealing with nothing but rude and unhelpful staff. I went into inquire about a dress. She said it wasn't available in my size went out to my car pulled it up online and ordered it myself. I don't see why you can't hire a younger workers. Dillard's is an upscale department store chain that has locations in dozens of states. I live in Pennsylvania where no Dillard's stores are located, so I occasionally shop through the Dillard's website. The Dillard's website has a very good selection of clothing, shoes, and accessories for women, men, and children as well as beauty products and home goods such as linens, home decor, and small appliances. Prices are moderate. I saw a Calvin Klein dress on sale for $71 plus $10 shipping and handling, and I ordered it for delivery. The employees at this Dillard's store in Richmond packed and shipped my order. They carefully wrapped my dress in tissue paper and put it inside a waterproof shipping bag. Four days later, the U.S. Postal Service delivered the package to my home. The employees had enclosed the correct dress and a note that said, "Thank you for your order!" read more

I was visiting Virginia from a state that doesn't have a Dillard's so I was super excited to stop here. They carry Brahmin handbags, which are my absolute fave after seeing them online. I never had a chance to see them in person before so to say I was thrilled when they came into my sight was an understatement! It took me forever, but I ended up buying two Brahmin bags and a card wallet. I was a very happy lady. :) Walking through the store I noticed that it was very clean but the store associates seemed very stuck up. Not one of them spoke to us or said hello as we were walking through the store. Prices are that of a very high end store and I though it weird that I didn't see any sale signs whatsoever. For several years, my friend and I do some Black Friday shopping at Dillard's. We've been to a few different locations, and this one is easy to access because you don't have to walk through the whole mall and fight traffic. Surprisingly, it wasn't that busy, and we have been there about 10:00 am. For a mid range department store, between a Nordstrom and a T.J. Maxx or say, Kohl's, Dillard's carries a wide range of brands, styles and price points. The jewelry department is awesome, well-stocked and you'll find cool pieces from Betsy Johnson and Michael Kors. The purse department is similarly filled with a variety of brand names. I found a great deal on a MK handbag there! One thing I particularly like about Dillard's is that they have a big Spanx section. I not only love their intimate apparel, but the Spanx black jeans/leggings are my fav! I have several pairs and have worn them to death! So comfy and breathable! Yes, they are pricier than most jeans, but they hold up! I've some these pairs for years. I just purchased a new pair recently and they rock! Check out the sales on the Northface scarves and jackets! We got some great bargains! The make-up and perfume departments are ok, they don't carry my brands so I typically have to go to Nordstrom, Saks or order in-line. I've gotten my hubby some unique and stylish men's shirts here as well. I bought several designer dress shirts that were originally $100 for $15! The sales and clearance items are definitely worth sifting through to save lots of moolah!! The store is always clean, neat and the sales staff is usually very accommodating. While Dillard's isn't my favorite store, I do occasionally enjoy shopping here! read more

I love Dillard's ... especially when they have there 65% off and an extra 40%. Beware ... when they say it's a 3 day return they mean it . This particular Dillard's is a big volume store . They have plenty of designers and lots of sizes. Their staff is always customer service friendly . Well organized and clean . read more

Bought a men's sport coat which needed to be altered, which was scheduled to be done by Dillard's. Some time later I called to check on the status since I was trying to expedite the alterations, which the attendant (Eric) knew about, plus I live 25 miles from the store. I provided my ticket number and name, and was told "Yes" it's ready. Went to pick it up and it was not ready; Eric hadn't even checked weekend I called and asked my simple question. Worse, when at the store a person walked up wearing what looked like track clothes and started to intervene. I said "Who are you?" and he said the manager. He was of no help and didn't even ask to hear my side of the story, instead defending the attendant who had given me misinformation about my jacket being ready for pickup. Not happy. Awful customer service, and a juvenile mistake that Eric did not even actually check to see if my jacket was in the store before I drove all that way to pick it up. read more

Very rude customer service for online orders at their Gift Wrap Online Order counter. One lady was very nice and polite, but the other lady was so rude, argued with me about how long it takes for me to drive to this Dillards location to try to do an online Dillard's return. Then proceeded to laugh at me as I was standing there. I truly do not care, her opinion of me is irrelevant. Just making everyone else aware of what to expect. I go to shop at Nordstrom or Neimans where they have the sense to not treat their paying customers this way. I feel bad that people in Richmond have such limited options I'm only writing this review so others do not experience this rudeness after giving their money to this business. Stay away from this store and do not shop on dillards.com - if the item does not fit they will not allow you to return because their computer systems "do not work" and will only laugh at you and be rude to your face! read more

I'd honestly forgotten all about Dillard's so it was refreshing to see those same old bags around Short Pump Town Center. I say old because there seems to be a thin line between classic and old. The décor reminded me of malls of yesterday. Because Dick's and L.L. Bean let me down when it came to thick socks I knew that they had to be somewhere in Dillard's. When I did find them I was pleased. So pleased that I got two pairs, different brands and an additional three pack of "dress" socks. After making my selection, I made my way to the Customer Service counter since I saw that they were ringing up people there. The associate that helped me was nice, I was prepared to be patient on the account if it being Black Friday. Everything was going swell til I found out I was buying nearly $50.00 worth of socks on Black Friday "and that ain't right." So I suppose The Big Payback is this 3 Star review. I was rooting for Dillard's in a world were Amazon and Target have so many markets cornered. read more

My brother recently passed away. His favorite color was blue so our family decided to wear blue to his funeral service to honor him. I searched "blue dress" and found one that I really liked on Dillard's website. My husband and I drove 90 minutes to Dillard's Richmond as the website listed 2 in stock for my size. The sales person was rude and didn't bother looking in their system to see if the item was available. She told me "why don't you look for something in the clearance and returns rack". Did she think because I am black that I didn't have $$? Never going to Dillard's again. read more

I was shopping in the cosmetics and skincare section recently and my experience was ruined by one employee. I was just minding my own business and browsing, I didn't come there set in buying anything so I was just window shopping and enjoying the day. Shortly after I entered the area, an employee (Mary) approached me and asked if I needed help to which I responded "No thank you." She continued to stand there and stare at me, immediately giving me an uncomfortable feeling. I eventually walked away, a little weirded out but just chalking it up to her either being a new hire or just socially awkward. As I continued to browse, I noticed that she was trailing me. I don't mean subtly either, but she was following me in a way that made it very obvious. When I turned around to face her, she just continued to stare me down with this dour look on her face. Something was very off about her, and she very much gave the impression that she fully expected me to try and steal something. After about 20 Minutes of her following me around the section and continuing to glare at me, I decided to just leave. I only know this individual 'a name because I asked another cosmetics employee (who couldn't have been nicer) if this was a regular occurrence. She let me know that they have had numerous customers complain about this employee (Mary), so it's a very standard thing. If you want to have a nice experience while you're shopping and not be treated like a criminal, I would suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

I'm not sure what happened to Dillard's. When I was younger, I use to love the service and attention from the Dillard's staff, even when I was just window shopping. Customer service means a lot, especially when (fast forward to today) there is SO much competition in retail. The last couple times I've shopped here, I've wandered around the women's clothing for at least 20 minutes, with NO ONE stopping to help me, even though several associates saw me. This past trip, I walked around with an armful of dresses. No one asked if I needed help. No one asked if I would like my items placed in a dressing room. No one acknowledged me at all, even though I made eye contact with at least three different associates. Perhaps I don't look like the type to spend money, but I am a customer. Or at least I was. Great sales!!! There's at least 2-3 major sales throughout the year. I'm able to find the shoes I want when the other mall stores may not have the color or size I want. You can place an order in the store and have it shipped to you for free should they not have the item in stock. If you park in their parking lot and have not come back in the store by closing, be prepared to walk around the building in the parking lot. read more

Had a issue with a gift I received from here. I asked to speak with a manager "Opel" was called and came with her draw on eye brows speaking very aggressively. She was very unprofessional and needs to be given a customer service class. Dillard's has definitely lowered their standards. read more

I frequent this store a lot because I am in the medical profession and have to wear work appropriate things. I went to this particular Dillards buying a dress for my young daughter. As I was standing in line there were 2 lady cashiers at the counter, one ringing someone up and the other looking busy putting things away. I stood in line behind the other person being waited on. There was also another lady standing close to the line but clearly still looking/shopping. The lady packing things gestures/signals around me, and ask the lady still looking if she was ready. Well as I was the next person in line, waiting patiently this seemed slightly rude. When the lady tells her "No I am still shopping." So I pipe up and say "Oh well I am ready." She proceeds to tell me no and that I would have to wait for the other cashier to finish before I could get waited on. It was so rude, disrespectful, and embarrassing. The other cashier seemed to be in shock too. After I paid for the dress and began walking away, I could see the other cashier confront the rude cashier, clearly asking her why she treated me this way. She only shook her head, said "what" and shrug her shoulders. She was a female wearing a hijab I only say that because It seems like she of all people would be sensitive to unfair treatment in this social climate. I will be frequenting the Stony Point store from here on out. It was disgusting. read more

Just got finished walking around the entire men's department with an arm load of clothes. Only a single associate helping out an old couple and not another person at any of the registers or any others in site. Finally I just left my clothes at one of the registers and walked out. I guess the retail world is doing so wonderful these days they don't need my $200-300! read more

During my last few visits I've found the customer service severely lacking at this department store, but it was my most recent experience that really put me over the edge. I ordered a dress online and, sadly, it didn't fit so I needed to return it. Rather than send it back and pay shipping, I figured I'd bring it back in person (which is one of the options listed on the return form). I entered near the jewelry section, and asked one of the sales associates where I should go to return an online order. She was friendly and told me I should return it at the main customer service desk since it was an online order from a line not carried at this particular Dillard's location. However, once I got to the customer service counter, I was met with quite a different attitude. The woman working acted like it was the biggest inconvenience of her life for me to be returning a dress. She asked me multiple times who told me I should return it to customer service (umm I'm pretty sure the point of customer service is to help customers?) and let off more dramatic exasperated sighs than I could even count. She kept mumbling under her breath and complaining to me that the employee at the jewelry counter was wrong and I should have returned it to a specific clothing department. She was not friendly, she was not welcoming, and she made me feel like I was wrong for following instructions. Having worked in retail in the past (with a huge focus on customer interaction and building relationships), I'm especially sensitive to people in retail customer service roles. I'm sorry, but if you're hiring folks like this to represent your business in a customer service environment, then I don't want to shop with you. And with so many stores offering the same, or similar, products, I don't need to. read more

This encounter starts back to a week ago where my husband and I received a call at 9:58 pm on a week night from an employee, Melodie, to come and pick up a pre-ordered (and pre-paid) bottle of cologne my husband ordered. I don't think it's appropriate to call anyone that late, especially an employee of a department store. I went to go pick up the cologne she specifically said was going to be behind the cologne counter. I arrived around 3:30p this afternoon and it was a ghost town in there. I approached the counter and gave my husbands name and the type of cologne I was picking up. Instead of LOOKING for the package, the associate immediately sent me to customer service 'downstairs' very dismissively. I went downstairs only to be told that they didn't have it and called upstairs. Someone else answered the phone and confirmed that it was behind the counter upstairs! I was helped by another associate who handed me the cologne with no problem. Which associate sent me on the wild goose chase?? MELODIE! If she would have taken the time to listen to me this would have been a much better experience. We will not be going back to this store to spend over $100 for cologne to be treated this way. I was very disappointed yesterday when visiting this store. I went to the Dior counter to purchase some lipstick and bother sales associate that help in this department could not figure out how to use the register in this area. Then they suggested I go to Nordstrom's or purchase online. What's the point of having a store if I'm redirected to the Internet? So sad. read more

The cashiers are incredibly rude. Once I went in to return a dress and the cashier was too lazy to handle it and told me to walk to the other side of the building and wait in another line for a return. Another time, the cashier paused our transaction so he could go check out a presumably wealthier customer. Good luck even getting any service in the shoe department. Do they make commission there? Don't expect to be treated like a human customer unless you look rich. read more

This was my first visit to this store. It looks fairly new. I stumbled upon a jewelry sale. Fifty percent off the already reduced price. This sale was better than the July 4 week sale. I am grateful.
