Summary: On Thursday, 2/19 around 2:00 PM at Dillard's NorthPark, a manager confiscated my phone, refused to come down to return it or explain why, and handled the situation in a dismissive, disrespectful way. I walked away from an intended $750-$1,000 purchase and will not return to this location. My family and I have shopped Dillard's for decades and have spent thousands of dollars over the years at numerous Dillard's locations across the country. NorthPark has been my primary Dillard's location for years now. Over the years, I've built relationships with multiple sales associates at this store and other Dillard's locations. I came in for my normal seasonal shopping, trying on a large stack of items with full intent to purchase in the ~$750-$1,000 range. I intentionally came on a weekday afternoon because it's typically low-traffic and makes it easier to shop and try items on without being in anyone's way. The store and department were essentially empty. I was shopping across the men's floor and had a fitting room in the Men's Big & Tall area because I have a go-to fitting room there that's larger and has a chair/bench. I was actively in the middle of trying everything on. I stepped away for a few minutes to grab a different size after telling the associate I would be right back. I left my personal belongings in the fitting room (my wallet, key fob, AirPods, my own clothes/jacket, etc.) because I was returning immediately. I was still mid-try-on and even wearing items with tags on when this happened. When I came back within about five minutes, my fitting room had been completely emptied. I asked what happened and was told the manager, Kenny Harris, cleared it out because there were "too many clothes." Behind the register, I saw a pile of merchandise with my personal jacket literally sandwiched in the middle of it, but it was only part of what I had originally selected. I later found out another pile had been placed in a different location. This was clothing I had spent 45 minutes to an hour pulling from around the store to try on and purchase. But my phone was gone. The associate told me the manager had confiscated my phone and had it in his pocket. I then stood there waiting over 10 minutes for the manager to come down, return my personal property, and explain why this happened. During that time, another associate who has helped me in the past also started looking for him around the store because she also couldn't understand why a manager would confiscate a customer's phone, especially when my other personal belongings were left behind. The associate called again and was told the manager was "busy," would not come down, and that if I wanted my phone back the associate could go upstairs and get it. Think about how insane that is. I'm a paying customer, my personal items are mixed into piles behind the register, and I'm being told to go upstairs to retrieve my phone from a manager who took it. I went upstairs with the associate. When we reached him, he appeared to be casually chatting with other employees and did not treat the situation as urgent. He handed me my phone with a quick "here," refused to discuss the situation ("nothing to talk about"), and spoke to me in a dismissive, disrespectful manner. When I asked for his last name so I could document the incident, he became visibly offended, raised his voice, and said he was the manager of the whole store. He continued to refuse any discussion, repeating that there was "nothing to talk about." I walked back downstairs, changed back into my clothes immediately, and left, walking away from the entire purchase. Whatever their internal policy is, confiscating a customer's phone and then refusing to come down to return it or explain why is completely unacceptable. I will not be returning to this location. If you value basic customer service and professionalism, I'd recommend ordering online or choosing another location. Otherwise, shop with retailers that still prioritize service like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, or Saks. read more

Wish I could give this store ZERO stars. I received a set for my bridal shower from my mom and didn't like how it fit. I tried to return this set and they insisted that I washed it, and didn't believe it was brand new even though all of my tags were attached... it was the weirdest thing ever that they were accusing me of LYING? They were so incredibly rude - took an hour of my time and never offered to even give me store credit or return. I'll never shop at Dillards ever again! The Dillard's at NorthPark Mall is truly one of the best Dillard's. They carry designer brands other Dillard's stores do not, like Francis Valentine, a designer I really like. The salespeople here go out of their way to help, in fact today I fell in love with a pair of shoes displayed in the clothing section and the salesman walked around the mall with me to find tops to match the shoes. I used to shop here all the time. Over the past 30 or so years,it's always been a well run store. Up to date inventory, helpful sales associates,well kept environment. I was more than a little surprised at a few things today. It seems fashion trends are rapidly shifting and I hadn't noticed that much until seeing the way the different departments in the store,both men's and women's were stocked As anticipated when I walked in,they did have a few items I needed in the form of men's summer shirts. Five Stars for the service and quality of products but would give a 1 star for the PLASTIC BAGS... Come on Dillard's it needs to change. Elevate that experience with PAPER BAGS! I went in today expecting to return a dress that I never wore, but the associate claimed it was stained. When I asked where the stain was, she pointed to two tiny black dots that I didn't notice when I made the purchase. She then called her manager over, who took a long time to arrive. When she finally did, she said that they couldn't process the return because it was stained. I explained that I never wore the dress and that the stains were probably there when I bought it. Her response was that I should have checked the dress more carefully. If I'm spending $240, I don't expect to have to examine it with a magnifying glass. The manager also mentioned that it had been almost two weeks since I made the purchase. I told her I lived over an hour away, but all she could say was "sorry." My boyfriend had attempted to return it the weekend before, but they refused the return because I had paid with Apple Pay. It is a day to take advantage of the savings and the value the savings add to your purchase. The selection is usually pretty good as long as you get there when the open. The manager at the store specifically the men's section was very disrespectful to me and the employee that was helping me. I came into the store looking for a pair of shoes I saw online and were in stock. They were on sale so I asked one of the employees in the men's section if I could buy for the sale price. He said he had to get management. I followed him around the store looking for a manager and I heard him asking other employees for a guy named Kenny. So I would assume that is the manager. We we got to him the gentleman helping me out was trying to explain the situation and before he got 5 words out of his mouth "Kenny" starts yelling at him . He was screaming I've already told you this . I'm not sure how he even knew what was happening because the guy didn't even get his sentence out. After that he starts getting a nasty tone with me. He said we probably don't even have your size for it. Then I showed him and he told me "why don't you just order it online then". Dillard's shoe department you have to do better. Delmar in the shoe department should be in the stock room and does not know how to interact with customers. I was there earlier today and purchased some items from the mens department and the transaction was seamless. Hours later I returned to purchase a pair of shoes so that I would not have to drive to Brandon. I selected a pair of shoes and was given one shoe. My wife asked if I could have both shoes because I planned to wear them out. I asked for another shoe and was given only one shoe. I normally try on both shoes due to defects in shoes and every shoe is not the same. After him standing over me I advised that I would like to thank him for his assistance and that I would not be needing them. My wife and I walked away and he made the comment taunting us saying atleast you know what size you wear. Terrell saw me and asked what I was doing in the store, I explained that I was trying to purchase some shoes but Delmar lacks customer service. Stopped by on a recent business trip to Dallas and needed a jacket. Richard in the men's Big & Tall section was a great help and I was able to find everything I needed as they had a very good selection of quality brands and a wide range of sizes. I was even able to find a good selection of shoes in my size (16). Richard also told me that they have sales every Monday. I will definitely return! read more

The children's department is a joke. I love Dillard's. I love their selection of kids clothes. But! Trying to buy kids shoes or check out is so frustrating. I received a vest for Christmas from my mother inlaw. Unfortunately due to her illness i did receive it until late January. When I went to exchange it for the correct size I was told it was past 30 days and they could and would not do anything to resolve my issue or allow me to use my gift. It is no surprise that Dillards place in the retail space has fallen to the level it is today. I say this as a former and long time Dillards customer, credit card holder and patron. We went to Dillards in NorthPark to look at sofas and we found what we wanted! Our salesman, Jerry, was courteous, professional, and very helpful. The price in the computer was higher than the price tag on the sofa we wanted, so he comped the delivery charge to partially compensate. Nice touch. The sofa selection was excellent. The quality of merchandize is also very good and we are very pleased with our new leather sofa. I am not a big shopper in general, but I invariably have a good experience at Dillards and this time was no exception. read more

I am in complete shock with the rudest encounter I had at Dillard's in North Park this evening. My first encounter with the uncouth sales associate was when I asked to try on clothes in one of the dressing rooms. Her reaction made me feel awkward like if I had disturbed her, even though there weren't any other customers there at that moment. When she unlocked a dressing room she quickly left with no eye contact and no comment. Anywhere else I'm offered assistance if I need another size. Then when I was ready to pay this same person tells me in a tone that wasn't expected that her cashier was closed, and that I needed to find another cashier in another area of the store. So, I asked which department and was told to find one, again without looking my way and in a rude tone. Then as I stood there in shock a lady walked up and asked access to the dressing room, but she was told it was closed. The lady begged and said she absolutely needed to find a dress tonight... Salespeople are hard to come by and dressing rooms are borderline disgusting. I can often find some decent items, especially on sale. Pretty standard location for the chain. All the things one expects to find and no complaints. We browsed through the multiple stories and departments which were mostly clean and stocked. The clearance areas could use a little work on organizing, but having worked in retail myself, I know what a fruitless effort that can be. We did see a few employees, but weren't greeted by any. They didn't have any shoe sales going on, which is usually my go to thing for Dillard's. They did have some good end of season sales in other areas which was nice. I purchased three sport coats this summer; two Hart Shaffer Marx and one CREMIEUX. Then I purchased Hickey Freeman slacks and Hart Shaffer Marx slacks. They send their tailoring offsite but they are supposed to be certified at measuring and alterations. It took two/three trips to get the jackets correct, and I still don't like the fit of the CREMIEUX jacket but I am not going to let them touch it. Besides the alteration challenges they came back with wrinkles and crease where there should be non. The cuffs look like a 3rd grader did them. On top of that, Israel, the sales clerk, was suppose to call me for the Hart Shaffer Marx custom suite fitting with the factory rep was in town. He lost my number. I guess in 2018 they don't have a CRM system; still old school paper and pen. I thought when I gave him all my info he was entering it into a CRM system. So I missed that sale. Additionally, after my initial purchase, within a couple weeks, I went into the Dillard's at the Colony and my jackets were marked down 15-20% so I went back to Israel but they would not adjust anything. I am done with Dillard's. Nordstrom does all their tailoring onsite with their employees and the quality is so much better. read more

I don't think I have ever given an event or a store 1 star as I'm a big fan of local business and how hard it is to work retail or in the service industry. Tonight I was absolutely humiliated and don't want anyone else to feel this way. If I could give my experience tonight zero stars I would. I was invited to the holiday after hours party from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. My friend and I were there to shop but the associates were busy eating and dancing. It took quite some time to get a fitting room. We got one around 9:10 pm thinking we had 20 mins to try things on and make out final purchases. That was not the case. We had already visited the men's section and fragrance section and spent around $500. We then went to the women's clothing and found some great clothes to try on. Both my friend and I had at least $500 combined that we were about to check out before Katie, the manager on duty plus a male co-worker bombarded the dressing room while my friend was re-dressing and asked us to leave. We had been there for 3 hours gathering items to finish Christmas shopping and we were asked to leave because the lights were scheduled to go off. It seems absolutely absurd that you would schedule a private event until 9:30 pm and that the lights shut off at 9:45 pm not considering people would need to check out. I request that Katie provide her business card but she refused so I even question if she was the manager in duty or just a rude, unprofessional employee who just wanted to go home. As someone who has worked in the retail industry for over 10 years, I understand how private events and closing time works. I would never treat a customer in this manner. I am extremely disturbed by the service tonight and won't be shopping at Dillard's again. We were humiliated and then escorted out, no apology can make up for that feeling. While browsing with my wife and picking out "cute sandals" for her, we were listening to announcements the store would close in 10 min. That's when we were told no more shoes would be pulled because "we are closed". Hmmmmmm.....there are people in the store....with MONEY in their pockets...wanting to spend it....and you want to STOP? I understand...people want to go home....but come on...10 min before close???? I bought a Kiehl's Cream spf 30 -55$ from Dillard North Park center. Going home and check the date was expired for 1 year. I came back again next days to return it. They exchange me another jar. I went to the car, was happy that finally I got it new. But I checked the date again and it was expired the same. I went to store inside the Dillard to complain the seller. She was nervou to give me again, I checked in front of her that's expired date. What's going on with Dillard? They carry all the expired lotion at Kiehl store. The girl said she only has the small one 35$, she will return the rest in my debit card.... bla bla... "you're good to go" without any receipt. ( that's my mistake that I trusted that girl) You know what, she didn't return the rest to my card. The customer service didn't know what's going on. They take few days to call me back told me that they exchanged me the news so they didn't own me anything.... Dillard's return policy is ridiculous. If I have not worn the item & have the receipt I should be able to exchange it for merchandise credit or a gift card. My sister bought me boots in Lubbock & mailed them to me. They did not fit & I just wanted to exchange them for literally anything that would fit. So Im shopping in the boys Polo pants area and I see this older lady bent over going through pants and we are talking and I assume she works there so I proceeded to ask her "ma'am are these pants on sale?" She didn't answer me so that was my cue that either she didn't hear me or didn't actually work there. So there you go, never allow kids that are screaming in the Dillard's department to throw you for a loop that the lady bent over laughing with you is the sales associate because BAM! Out from know where, the true associate will appear. The boys dressing rooms need some work. Smells bad. The carpets are dingy. Doors hard to open and shut. Walls could use touch ups. Reminds me of one of those businesses that can shut down not just from sales declining but also from letting go on the upkeep & getting filthier & filthier with each visit. I will say that unlike most dressing rooms, both of them were emptied of any clothing. Only one register available to check out. Look! I need St Patrick's Day to come along, so I can find a 4 leaf clover and gain some more luck. It was only myself and the lady in front of me and I don't know what the heck she was doing but the process to check her out was snail slow. I kept seeing her swiping her card and showing a receipt and asking about coupons or something and then it repeated and I was thinking in my head like the movie Titanic, "Is anybody out there? Can anybody hear me?" I just needed to buy a few jeans and get. Gosh. I foresee self check out at department stores coming. Don't get me started on the Women's bathroom. I never knew so much damage could happen like what I saw but dang, "Houston, we had a problem!" Managers have got to ensure that whomever handles all these types of issues that they are addressed, continually monitored and maintained. This is what the public witnesses. I don't even know why I tried shopping at this place again. Your workers need a serious reality check. You would think that the bad publicity you got from homer (wasn't that his name) would have made your employees more inclined to be professional and respectful. I really enjoyed the lady in the shoe department watching me try on $20 shoes but refusing to actually greet me. Spoke to everyone around me but watched me try on a cheap pair of shoes. Be grateful My camera wasn't working because that is how close and how obvious she was to me. I can't put a pair of shoes in a mini purse might I add. I also enjoyed the young lady in Gianni bini running away from me when I tried asking for a fitting room. She made me feel wonderful when she finally gave me one then ran off ignoring me.
