Walking in here was so fun, it gave me a throwback to a cafeteria scene but more elevated and fun to be in! It was a walk up to the counter to order and then bringing your plate to one of the dine in tables. Workers were friendly. I ordered a custom plate with crispy chicken, cheesy cauliflower, and kale caeser salad. Cheesy cauliflower was my favorite on the plate because I can really taste the cheese which tells me they put alot on it. It made the cauliflower really flavorful and a good balance on the plate. DIG is a small chain of fast casual locally farm-sourced restaurants that opened in Manhattan, New York in 2011. It was founded by Adam Eskin. After graduating from Brown University with an economics degree, Eskin entered the world of finance and started working for Wexford Capital: a private equity firm. Eventually the firm acquired a small chain of health food restaurants called The Pump Energy Food, which targeted the fitness crowd. Eskin was tasked with transforming and reviving the chain. In 2011, he rebranded the business as "DIG INN" with a completely new menu focused on local, seasonal produce at an accessible price point. The chain was initially only located in Manhattan before branching out. The name of the chain was later changed to simply "DIG". As of 2024, there are now 33 locations nationwide. My family and I recently ate lunch at DIG's location in Stamford, Connecticut. This location, which opened in April 2023, is the first to open in Connecticut as well as the first stand-alone location. The building on High Ridge Road was home to the Bull's Head Diner for many years. The place was super clean and we were really impressed with the menu items which consisted of a lot of salad and grain bowls. I ordered the "Hot Honey Crispy Chicken Sandwich Combo" (crispy baked chicken thigh served atop mixed greens with dill pickles, hot honey, and ranch on a potato bun) with a side of Mac & Cheese, my wife ordered the "Hot Honey Chicken" (glazed charred chicken, sheet tray carrots, charred broccoli w/lemon, mac & cheese, served w/ maple honey sriracha), our older son ordered the "Kid's Pizza", and our younger son ordered the "Goofball" (meatballs in spicy ragu, brown rice, mac & cheese, apple slices). We have come to Dig in Stamford often and the food is excellent. But I have to say the last two times , there has been a problem with receiving the food. The last time my 98 yr old mother in law had to wait an extraordinary amount of time for her food after ours was received. Today the same thing happened. Our meals came and my husbands food came after repeated check ups and after we all finished our meals. It's pretty frustrating. Seems like they forget about some of the orders. I don't really understand the problem . Will prob come again as they have good food and good vegetarian healthy options. We had a Yelp elite event at Dig last night, and I am happy to say that I would totally come back and enjoy this restaurant. The restaurant itself is amazingly decorated. It's very clean and very cute inside and outside. They even have some outdoor seating with lights so that would be awesome in the summer. The food is really delicious. I love the farm to concept that Dig has. I know I'm eating good clean food that also satisfies my cravings. I also like how they have a seasonal menu that changes I think that's really cool and brings a lot of variety to the table. All the staff was so friendly and brought out the food very quickly. Nice little spot for some brunch! Went family stopped by because we remembered the diner that used to be in the same place. Little did we know it had turned into Dig! We all ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on delicious focaccia bread. The sandwich was so tasty! The one thing I will say is that there were several groups eating (maybe 4-5) and many people working in the kitchen, but it took a long time for our food to be ready. This wasn't something that I would consider to be a bad thing, but we arrived hungry and definitely noticed the delay by the time we received our order. It was about 30 minutes, but hopefully that's not the norm! The restaurant was really clean and nicely designed, with plants everywhere. A really nice touch! Plenty of parking, too. read more

I came here to pick up dinner for the family. It's been some time since I've ordered food from a Dig, back when they were called Dig Inn. The food has always been good in my opinion and it's a nice change from the conventional "fast food" options available. Ordering is pretty self explanatory. They have set bowl but you can always customize, which we love to do. A few tip: always get the 50/50 farro with either rice or greens. Their farro is seasoned well and you definitely can't go wrong with it. I like to pair with the greens if I want to be lighter but the rice will always come in clutch. Also, always get a couple of different sauces. They put them on the side and you can try something you might not have otherwise ordered. Their sauces are really good. We were assisted by Joey and he was very friendly. I was ordering a lot and he was patient with me while I listed everything. He gave us suggestions about the desserts. I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing any of their focaccia bread. After ordered, we sat and had drinks while we waited, and our order was brought to the table. The tables are clean and everything is organized. They take pride in turn ing over their tables to have them ready and clean for the next patron. The bathroom is immaculate and that says a lot, considering we visited close to closing. Our food was well packaged and nothing spilled during the 30 minute drive back home. Everything was still warm and did not require any additional heating up some once we came through the door, it was dinnertime. My son and I both opted for the salmon, which as very good. I had half greens/farro, the kale salad and sheet tray carrots. My entire bowl was great, although I do recall their servings size to be larger in the past. My son opted for farro, their mac & cheese, and broccoli. The macaroni they use has an odd texture. It tastes like it's pre-made, which has a weird mouth feel. I don't think I would order that again. Everything else was tops. I love the broccoli and the hint of lemon. Hubby had their grilled steak, which was awesome, and the same two sides as my son. He agreed that the macaroni texture was not appealing. I got my kiddo their pasta dish with a meatball and tomato sauce. The menu stated that it's supposed to be a corkscrew pasta but it was the same elbow pasta they use for the mac & cheese, so it had that same texture. I opted for sweet potatoes for her because I knew the broccoli would be to lemony, and she enjoyed them. If we visit again, I would probably stick with a pizza or just get her a regular meal for her. I wish they had that option for the kiddos. My almost 5 y/o would definitely eat the farro, the rice, most of the veggies, and any of the proteins. A mini market plate should be on the kid's menu. We also got some of the gluten-free brownies, cookies and carrot cake. Definitely get the carrot cake and the cookies. The cake is super moist and I wish I bought more of it. The cookies were great in texture and flavor. The brownie was not my cup of tea but they looked amazing which is why we got a couple of pieces. I would definitely be back if in the area. I've been wanting to try for a while, ordered Kale Cesar salad with roasted herb chicken. The assembly was effortless except for the avacado, I initially wanted to stay and wasn't asked to dine in or take out which when they handed me a bag with my food kind of rubbed me the wrong way. $17.00 and walked out to eat food in the car which didn't go well at all and ended up more frustrated. It's feels stupid to sit down with a bag of food you intended to eat there anyway rather than a tray. I'm old school, stupid things like this matter to me especially when I'm paying my hard own money I should feel like a customer and not like I'm doing them a favor by eating there. When DIG first opened, it was absolutely delicious! My MIL loved it and would go up to twice a month. I hadn't been in a few months and decided to grab some for lunch. I've only had takeout from this place in the past until recently. My wife and I went there in person on a holiday since most other restaurants were closed. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. The chicken was horrible. It looked good but I bit into it and it was very fatty and had a funny taste. I couldn't eat it. The Mac and cheese wasn't much better. It had a gray color and a strange spice flavor similar to the chicken. Took a few bites and threw away most of it. The food was overpriced for what it is. We were visiting Stamford this summer and our host told us about this new quick casual restaurant in a convenient location. it even had ample free parking, a rarity so close to Downtown Stamford these days. We were looking for an early lunch and the choice of Bowls were similar to a chain we have at home in CO. But they seemed a bit big for our appetites so we thought we would share something. When we arrived, we discovered we were early enough on a weekend to use the brunch menu which our host did not know even existed. We ordered a variety of breakfast sandwiches with options, typical of similar chains but nicely done. One was a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a tasty bread, also a fancy avocado toast option highlighted with various veggie and garnishes and a small side salad. It was ample for the three of us. It must be a special new option in the experimental stage as it does not appear on any of their menu options on the DIG website. Maybe only testing in the CT location. The majority of their locations are in NYC, a few in the Boston Cambridge area. Stamford seems to be the only one in CT. Not only was the food tasty, it was modestly priced and the staff very efficient and cordial. They do a good job cleaning the tables themselves between customer use. That is a much more pleasant option than some places we have locally at home where the expectation of the customer doing the removal often leaves many tables unclean for new customers. It is worth the cost to have the staff do it. Your customers will be much happier. It was fairly busy, a line to order built up periodically and we noticed many people picking up online orders too. We definitely will try their health bowls when return another time. What we did see being delivered to an adjacent table were large and fresh and colorful. read more
