We contracted with Dietrich Quality Design to remodel the master bedroom suite in our 1950's Allandale home. The master bath was a half-bath (sink and toilet only), with a small walk-in closet next door. We wanted to expand the half-bath to a full bath, while maintaining adequate closet space, AND not impacting the overall footprint of the house (i.e., don't expand the exterior). And, we were expecting a baby less than 4 months after we started talking to Gene and his team. No pressure, Gene! Thankfully, Gene and his team happily tackled the challenge, partnering with our architect to discuss a few different options, until we landed on a proposal which balanced time, money, and design in the right way for our family. A few notes and thoughts about how Gene and his team did all the work: First, Gene and his entire crew were pleasant, thoughtful, and considerate. We had zero issues with the crew (as many as 5 or even 6 workers) in our house for 8 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, for 5 weeks. Every one of the crew was always willing to stop and answer my questions, and they always gave me a heads-up when a new or different activity began that might impact our lives, such as shutting down the house electricity in order to do the required electrical work. Second, they were quick. Every day was full of activity and every day progress was made. Given that we were on a tight timeframe for finishing all the work, this made a big difference to our family. Third, they finished on time and on budget - at the number Gene quoted in his bid proposal. Last, and most importantly, I really felt that Gene and his team truly cared about not only the quality of their work but also our satisfaction as clients and as a family. No detail was too small to discuss with Gene and his team, and they always looked for creative solutions whenever a challenge presented itself. Fortunately, we didn't have too many of those, but I'm confident Gene would have found a satisfactory solution that worked for our family. Perhaps the best feedback I can provide is that we will definitely give Dietrich Quality Design a call the next time we have work to do on our home. A great experience from start-to-finish! And update on Oct. 8, 2014 In the past year, we again hired Dietrich and his team to completely gut our house down to the studs, renovate the first floor, and add a 2nd floor. No easy job! It was, needless to say, a massive job for all of us, but we are back in our house and so, so thrilled with the work they did. It is just beautiful. Gene's crew was just great, from demolition to completion. We have all new plumbing, electrical, windows, doors, floors, stairs, roof, siding, a new deck...you name it, we re-did it. Our poor old falling-down bungalow is now a sparkling modern home (although we retained the bungalow character. And not only did they do a great job, they did it incredibly fast - 4 1/2 months! Our architect said there was no way that would happen, but they did it. Which saved us so much money on our temporary rental. I've recommended these guys to so many friends, so it's high time I update my Yelp review! ----------------- The original review. Aw it's terrible that I'm the first to review these guys - they have been around for so long and do SUCH great work! We recently hired Gene Dietrich and his crew to do a bunch of random things to the exterior of our old bungalow, and they did all of it perfectly. Here was our laundry list: - Power wash the house - Replace the rotted siding and underpinning (there was a LOT) - Install a French drainage system to the back of the house (to prevent runoff from collecting) - Power wash the fence (crazy how much better it looks!) and reorient where one of the gates connects to the house - Rebuild the railing around the front stairway and front porch - Build a new landing for the back door entry - And the grand finale - paint the entire exterior of the house! These guys did all these things on time, on budget, and with smiles on their faces. Gene Dietrich is such a pleasure to work with, and he had a lot of great ideas for how to achieve our goals without breaking the bank. He's just one of those guys who can figure out how to do anything. Nothing seems to phase him. His team is wonderful too, really hard-working, respectful and just plain nice. I called DIETRICH QUALITY DESIGN, because of their rave reviews here on Yelp and elsewhere, to give me an estimate on dry walling my detached garage. Of the three contractors I called, they were the first to give me a call back and came out to the property an hour later. I was really surprised when I was given a price that was much less then I expected and told they could start 9:00am the next morning so I went with them. The next morning at 9:00 they were right on time and started right away. Now many years ago I worked on a lot of new construction projects doing roofing and siding so I have dealt with plenty of contractors and I have to say DIETRICH QUALITY DESIGN are real pros. The two guys left on the job were quick, efficient and knew their stuff. I was told they would knock out the job in the one day and true to his word by five o'clock they had it all sheet rocked, floated, taped and sanded. They even threw in coat of primer for free because a couple of the sheets had paint test spots on them, so as far as I am concerned this went above and beyond. When I did my final walk through the couple of ruff spots that I had made a mental note of late in the day were already handled by Gene Dietrich when he came back to help his guys finish up and do his quality control. Now I lucked out with the timing on this job because DIETRICH QUALITY DESIGN has a full crew that do new construction, large scale remodeling jobs as well as smaller home projects and I happen to catch them at a slow down point of a large scale job that they were doing not too far away, but that being said THESE GUYS WOULD BE WORTH WAITING FOR. They are top notch and I already talked to them about coming back to do some other jobs including resealing and framing some doors and tiling my kitchen and three baths. We used Dietrich for some odds and ends projects on the exterior of our house, though I know they do interior work as well. I'll also note that the name 'Quality Design' here may be confusing - I'm sure their design work is great, but they're really home builders/contractors to do pretty much anything you need around the house. And as the other reviewer noted, we're in S. Austin (Bouldin Creek) so they're definitely willing to travel - not just Cedar Park projects. We have a 1910 house that was in need of a paint job, new porch roof, new gutters, and we wanted to install rain barrels. And they built new window boxes for us! They did an amazing paint job - good price, SUPER fast, quality work, and power washed it first. The porch roof, gutters, rain barrels, and window boxes all look awesome. The only issue we had, which was small, was that they're not necessarily used to providing breakdown budgets, so we had to ask for that. Some of the best things about Gene Dietrich and his crew: - They make sure you're very happy. If there is one little thing you want to change, they'll come back and do it. - They're fast AND good AND prices seemed very fair (it wasn't dirt cheap, but not on the high-end either. You get what you pay for! If you want dirt cheap it would take forever or the quality would be crap.) - They work as a great team - it's not a piecemeal-ed group of contractors, but a team that works together on all projects. Gene seems to really take care of his crew - those things matter to me. And I've found that people who are happy in their jobs usually do better work! Gene and his crew are Tops. 2 years back, I had my master bath remodeled. The original Contractor took almost 3 month and when i finally paid him off, I was totally dissapointed. Shortly after install, I developed water leaks, the tile work was unattractive with inconsistent spacing and I hated the finished work. I recently contacted Dietrich Quality Design through your web site. Gene came out, gave me a bit and explained in Detail what he would do to fix my problems. He quoted a 2-3 week time frame, but finished in less than 2 weeks. He completely gutted the Bath/ Shower area and removed Insulation that had been soaking wet, due to no seal from original Contractor. His crew then re installed walls and red guarded them, ensuring no more wet walls. He centered the bath tub and re installed all plumbing drainage. His tile Installer knew his job, as did everyone else on his crew. During the remodel, they covered everything, including stairs, to ensure minimal dust collection in adjacent rooms. Long story short. Dietrich Quality Design knows it's buisiness and I was totally amazed how good my bathroom looked when the install was complete. Genes Crew is dedicated to the job at hand and worked from the time they arrived until it was time to leave, taking only a short lunch. When they were all done, their Cleaning lady ensured everything sparkled, including my adjoining bedroom. These days I find it hard to find quality work, honesty, much less an affordable price point. Gene delivered all three and then some. You always hear the adage you get what you pay for but with Dietrich Quality Design you get so much more. Gene and his crews attention to detail and cleanliness is superb. I make more of a mess making dinner than they did with the finish out of my pool house. The materials they used were top of the line and the application was flawless. This is the second time I have had them finish a project for me and i have to say they impressed me again. Fantastic! I recently used Dietrich for some work as we got ready to sell our house. They worked on some drywall, did some painting, tile and grout work. These guys were terrific! Gene and his wife were a pleasure to work with and he made sure everything was complete and that we were satisfied with all of the work. When we were finally ready to remodel our kitchen, we chose Gene and Elsie to get the job done. The work was great and the cost was reasonable. Their work quality and professionalism is very high. We were so pleased that we had them come back for two more jobs. This is our 2nd go round with Gene and Dietrich Design. We just recently had them remodel our kid's bathroom and playroom. We had a few hiccups with the A/C return piper overflowing thru the downstairs ceiling, but the sub-contractor came over at 9:30pm to patch the problem. The ceiling downstairs was repaired and painted to look like new. Overall, we are please with the bathroom and playroom outcome. Gene did a fantastic job designing and constructing our new office. We found the perfect location for our business, but the facilities were not right. The previous use was as a fabrication shop and whereas that worked in part, we needed an office. Gene took the backside of the warehouse and constructed an office with glass panels looking out on the shop floor that stretch from the floor to roof. He created a clean-up/restroom area.
