I have been a Dicks Sporting Goods customer for decades. A matter fact, the first one that I can remember shopping at was over 20 years ago in Miami. I bought a pair of sunglasses that I still have to this day. I miss the location in VB Town Center. It was one of the best, especially when it had the Rockwall. An employee named Darren ran the Rockwall almost 20 years ago and he works at the Lynnhaven Dicks store in the shoe department. My daughter needed new shoes for a camping trip and Darren, as usual was awesome! Lots of great knowledge and advice and patience. She found some New Balance that was perfect and the right price. Darren's customer service skills are unmatched and I'm so glad that he was there to help us. The chain carries a lot of name brands like Adidas, Nike and Hoka's. The overall store in my opinion has not been as strong, but the selection has been every bit as good. They like others have cut back on staff and it can be challenging to get help when shopping. Customer service is not nearly what it used to be. When checking out the cashier was downright not friendly. So this four-star is much more about a single experience with Darren than the overall store experience through the years. If you need some shoes, ask for Darren. read more

Shopping in Virginia Beach, Virginia... Since tonight is the first night of the NBA Finals, I thought that it might be a good idea to wear a Golden State Warriors shirt. Haha! I know that my friend, Craig Y., in Torrance, California gets his team shirts (Ex: Dodgers) from Dick's Sporting Goods. I asked my friend if there's a Dick's in Virginia Beach (realizing that this is the East Coast and that the Golden State Warriors are on the West Coast). Yes! We drove over and looked. I even asked a friendly staff if there were any shirts. He said that if they had any, it would be in the front. Meanwhile, I passed through sections of the store dedicated to certain activities such as weight lifting and bike riding. There was even a golf area. We found college team gear for Old Dominion and Virginia Tech, but no professional team merchandise. Well, it was a nice visit overall. I know where to go if I need sporting goods. We don't have Dick's Sporting Goods in Hawaii. read more

It's amazing. So much better a new management staff took over and it's amazing now. You still have to deal with the destruction of mall traffic but the staff is amazing. Mall customers destroy the store I watched a couple literally look at soccer cleats throw them on the ground and walk away with the pair they wanted. I remember when this was a sporting goods store for outdoor folks. Used to buy my ammo, tackle, golf gear here. Now it's shoes, shirts, water bottles, and yoga pants. I used to overpay for tackle and fishing gear because the selection made up for the prices, now it's a joke. Majority of the fishing rods rainbow themes for wannabe fishing influencers. Where's the high quality Shimano and Diawa? Over the years this place has become a joke and this is probably my last visit here. read more

He was professional and took the time to help me with my situation even when it wasn't a direct sale for him. Stopped in today while in the area for a basketball tournament. Purchased a couple items, then walked through the mall for a bit. Came back through Dick's to exit and when we walked past the registers toward the doors, an associate yelled at us to "bring some money next time!" as if we just came in, walked around, and left without purchasing anything. I guess he didn't see the bags in our hands and we didn't stop at the register when we left, so he assumed. But are you not allowed to walk around the store and not buy something? I just found it to be incredibly rude and unnecessary. I would certainly choose a different store next time to not receive unwarranted harassment for no reason. read more

The man manager lacks customer service skills. He and one of the employees literally stared at my son and I as we were walking in the door and didn't utter a good morning, welcome in or anything and when my son attempted to get the manager attention as he was semi walking in our direction for assistance he ignored him and my son is tall with a deep voice. My son literally had to walk all the way to the other associate that starred us down for assistance with a dressing room. It took 20 minutes for two younger associates to acknowledge my son and I. As said in other reviews, the man manager lacks customer service skills. Came in to return a speaker - and automatically asked if I opened it. I replied no, but he decided to open it anyways to make sure all pieces were there. I understand the reason as I've worked retail before, but his tone made it seem like he was questioning me right off the bat. Also, he told me I wouldn't get my refund for another 30 days as I used a different card for my return. The cashier was very nice though - appreciate her help and kindness aside from the manager. Showed up here because I thought my order was for pick up here. It was actually at the warehouse and I wasn't aware they even offered pickup so that's my fault. The employee came out to my car assuming nobody was in it, I had been there for 20 minutes already.. He came out saying I had kept checking in, I only checked in once so that was uncalled for. He was extremely rude and definitely could've approached that situation better. I will be going to the Dicks in Chesapeake from now on since I never received service like this from them. I wrote a review a month or so ago for Dicks, giving it 3 Stars. I'm ammending that review to reflect the ridiculously terrible service I received earlier today... I bought a kayak - yay! Along with it I purchased a PFD, paddle, and a variety of other needed accoutrements. Lackluster service and attitude aside, the two (restraining myself here) "ASSociates" literally threw my kayak onto my vehicle, scratching my roof in the process (just realized it, visiting tomorrow to deal with their management). I cringed a bit and asked if they'd help me strap it down with the new cargo straps I also bought from them... they offered me rope and no assistance. PAUSE. I am aware of liability and plausible deniability but how on Planet Earth can a company expect someone to have faith in their products if they don't have faith in their staff to sell and secure it for their customer-base? I bought straps and a roof securing system and they offered rope. They literally - and I quote - "walked away laughing as I tied down the kayak to my roof." It's called doing the right thing. Liability be d@mned - this company has cancelled their subscription to the human race and feigned service as a mockery to its core mantras. Perhaps I'm upset and perhaps I have a right to be, but I'll never step foot into this fallacy of a business again... well, after they fix my roof... read more

I've been to this Dick's A LOT when shopping for outdoor and exercise gear. While it is pricey for workout gear it is my go-to place and I can usually find something to suit my style and current needs. My only complaint about this location is that it is always a huge pain in the butt to find anyone to help you on the floor. God forbid you want to try something on and you want to get into one of the VERY dark and cramped fitting rooms, or that you need help finding something, or need to order an item out of stock which they won't do up front but will take you to one of the registers with 3-inches of dust on them in Golf or such.... you will spend 10 minutes roaming around up and down the store in the hope you'll come across some random employee with a walkie talkie on.... it happens EVERY time I need some help... which is irritating. I always eventually find someone but it still pisses me off... Oh well... still enjoy their styles and the quality of the merchandise. I'm also a rewards member and when you spend a certain amount you get a gift card reward for $20 or so. read more

I've been coming here for various sporting related items since Sports Authority closed in a different portion of this shopping district. This past Memorial day I went out shopping for some new workout gear. I needed some gym shoes, basketball shorts, and some breathable shirts. After selecting some shorts and deciding the shirts were too expensive we headed to the shoe section of the store. There were 3 employees all appearing to be working on stocking a couple dozen pairs of shoes. A young gentlemen with bleached hair approached me, after about 10 minutes of being within his line of sight, and asked me if there was anything he could do for me. I was hoping I would be approached within a few moments as I was looking for a particular item and didn't want to scour 4 isles of flamboyantly colored basketball shoes to locate it. I was asked the question "What can I do for you?," almost with an attitude. To which I responded, "Do you carry any..-" and was interrupted with a "No we don't," and he proceeded to walk into the back room and close the green door. Did not even wait to hear what I was looking for before dismissing me. Very rude service. I then decided that I would purchase my basketball shorts and leave for another location where my patronage is appreciated. At checkout, Cristina - in a yellow shirt who's "passion is golf", was too busy speaking with someone in plain clothes (I assume a friend) to address us as we walked up. After a few awkward moments of standing there, without making eye contact or looking in my direction, she spouted "Can I help you?". She did not ask if we found everything ok, she did not ask me how I was doing, and was very jarring with her lack of service. The only reason this place doesn't get 1 star is because of the nice gentlemen in the men's apparel section of the store who took the time to unlock a spare dressing room for me to try on various items. I wish I would have caught his name. I will most likely not return unless I am unable to locate my items at another store or online first. This is one Unpleasant Dick. read more

If I could give this store a 0 star rating I would. For starters this is literally the FILTHIEST store I've ever been in. I've honestly never seen anything like it. I mean seriously hire a damn janitor! Every time I go into the bathroom it smells like 10 year old poop in there and there's never any toilet paper or seat covers. In addition to the utter filth of the store (the whole store not just the bathroom) a majority of the employees know nothing about what products are in the store. I went in recently to look for a specific kind of socks and 3 different employees walked me all around the store for 20 minutes, only to determine it wasn't something they carried. Seriously? While on another visit I went in to return 2 things that were the wrong size, and the cashier whole did the return completely screwed everything up. Christina (who was suppose to be a cashier lead) forgot to return one of the items that I brought in. I pointed it out and asked if I needed to reswipe my card. She said that I did not. Being unsure since the original purchase was made on a different account then I was returning it on I asked if she was positive that I did not need to reswipe. She said no. She did the return and 2 weeks later when I had still not gotten my money back I went into the store only to discover that she had made the return to the original account which was not even open anymore. (How is that even possible??) I spoke with a manager about what had happened and after leaving my name and number, he said he would let me know what could be done about it. I NEVER heard from him and I NEVER got my money back. My 20 something dollars is still floating around somewhere in limbo. Lastly I purchased a kayak there. It took forever for them to find someone who could carry it out for me. When these 2 guys took my kayak out, they literally threw it on top of my Nana's suburban that I was driving and scratched the roof of the SUV. Then they turned to walk away. I asked them of course to help me tie it down and the refused. I understand liability issues but I am 5 feet tall and had no one to help me except for my 70 year old Nana. They threw me some ropes and then just walked off laughing and joking. I've literally never had such crappy service. Being completely unable to get the thing tied down myself I had to ask my boyfriend to LEAVE WORK and come tie it down for me so that I could leave. This is literally the worst store I've ever had the unfortunate chore of shopping in. Save yourself from the loss of money, atrocious service, and filth and shop at L.L Bean or REI!! read more

This place pisses me off. The women's selection is shit, always picked over and wildly overpriced. The staff are pushy and follow you around like needy little puppies. Leave me the hell alone, I will let you know if I need help. Thanks bye. I once bought a water bottle here that costed $23 dollars. It was the cheapest one too. I know they carry a lot of things that outdoors men and athletes and people of the like use, but its just SO expensive. And they only carry Redskins or VT fan gear. Lame. The only reason I come here is because my husband makes me. I like to hide in the tents with him and play hide and seek instead of looking at raincoats and guns and shit. If your sons take their time to choose their very first pair of cleats and they don't carry them, this worker come back and tell you "we don't have them" that's all this particular worker (without name tag) can say for three times in a row! I would rather hear "I'm sorry we don't have them but is there anything else you liked?" Or perhaps, ask their shoe sizes so that he can tell us what they carry? My family and I go here at least 2-3 times a week to check out all the latest golf, basketball, tennis, athletic clothes and shoes. Customer service is always on point and the store is huge. We can easily spend close to an hour here just looking around. They have a variety of everything from Under Armour to Nike. We love this place. read more

We had some issues with my a pair of Hoffman bikes that we bought at another Dick's but we took one of them back to this store and Steven, an assistant manager there assured us that he would take care of everything and he did. He even went above and beyond by driving to Richmond to pick up a specific color that my son really wanted. Him and Dakotah added pegs and a kickstand on each bike and my children were thrilled. There are 2 sporting goods stores at the Lynnhaven Mall area and the difference between them is as clear as night and day. Dick's is new (about 3-4 years old) and is fully stocked with a variety of items, has plenty of helpful staff and is well taken care of. Across the lot you have the old Sports Authority which is kinda run down, poorly staffed and no one knows what the heck is going on there. So Dick's is really the only one you need to concern yourself with. read more

This sporting goods has a lot of items for almost every sport/ hobby. It is nice and large in size and clean. Staff is around but doesn't bother you while you shop, but they are everywhere if you have any questions. read more

The guy, I think his name was steve, who set up my best friend's compound bow took a little less than an hour. He wasn't pushy or belittling (which is a serious problem in archery shops), and was very honest. He did the job under my budget. Don't place an online order for pickup! I ordered a mouth guard and case for my son at noon today. Website said items were in stock. My credit card was charged the $30-ish total. When I got to the store at 5 pm, they said the order had been canceled due to unavailable stock. I called customer service and they said it will take 3-5 business days for the money to post back into my account. So, they charged me for something they didn't have in stock and they STILL have my money. Staff and managers were clearly annoyed that I had a problem with this, and just said there was nothing they could do. Very frustrating. read more
