When we first walked into Bass Pro, the customer service was friendly and welcoming right from the start. Unfortunately, that level of service didn't carry throughout the store. While shopping for boots in the shoe section, the customer service wasn't nearly as impressive. We ended up purchasing a pair because it was something we specifically came for. Later, we were looking for a specific type of fishing rod. With so many options, we decided to ask for assistance to make sure we were getting the right gear. I went to the desk for help, but no one was available. I walked around a few times and eventually went to the register, where the ladies at the front were kind and called someone over the mic but no one ever showed up. Eventually, I found someone on my way back to the rod section, but they weren't very helpful either. Overall, our experience was mixed. I loved this trip to Bass Pro Shops! I've only been here a few times. They have a fun fish area where you can see all types. I saw candy, home decor, fishing gear, shooting gear, clothes , stuffies, etc. place is organized. Bathroom clean. Staff is nice. I saw some sales. They sell a vacation for $199 you get $50 back but you have to sit through a two-hour "tour." That doesn't sound like a vacation to me. We only went to get a photo of Santa. I think that is our yearly trip to Bass Pro. The staff was on the phone when we were walking in and didn't say anything. We had a stroller so we opened the side gate to go in ourselves. In the past we are usually greeted. They ask us if we are here to see Santa and point us in that direction. We booked the photo with Santa early so it was empty. The staff was nice to show us it was our turn and to check in. Our photo was slightly blurry. The camera man seemed to be very bored. I purchased a crossbow from them recently and if I had known that it would be such a hassle to get some help because there Archery department is basically shutdown, I would have purchased elsewhere. Twice in the last month I have made trips to the store for items thay are not available, but shows they are available even while I'm in the store. 1. On 4/21, I ordered several t-shirts with expedited shipping. When they sent the confirmation email it showed delivery on 4/22. Immediately following that email, I received another email stating my order had been delayed and they would update with a delivery date. On 4/22, I received an email that said, "good news. Your order has been processed and the delivery date will be 4/23." On 4/23, I received an email that said my order has been delayed and will be delivered on 4/24. This happens every time I order from Bass Pro. Their shipping and service is horrible. 2. Emails - I unsubscribe from their email almost daily but I continue to receive marketing emails every day. I even logged into my account and unchecked the "receive marketing emails" box. It didn't help. I have called their customer service and asked to be removed from all marketing emails and they apologize and assure me I will no longer get them. You guessed it! I gave this place a 4 star rating. Loved the aquarium area! That was the saving grace. But.....the gun department was not organized. So you sign in and they text you when you're up. Walked around the store for 30 mins until we received a text telling us to go back that we were up next. We went up there......waited an hour. I'm struggling a bit here. So I've been here twice recently and the experiences have been a little polar. I evened this out to a 3 and I hope you take a moment to read the why. The bad part was the inconsistency with the signage. When I was checking out there was a lady who was quite furious about her purchase as she was buying pants that she believed were 20% off. Well... as luck would have it.. so was I. When my purchase rang up, I noticed I didn't get the 20% off I was expecting. Since I was eavesdropping a bit in the other conversation (they were right next to me), the sales associate said: "The sign says, select products only (can't remember exact verbiage)". Then when the customer mentioned "how are you supposed to tell which is on sale?" The sales associate had no answer. I chuckled a bit and jumped in on it and said "Yup, I just got got also. I checked every single pant on that rack and none of them had any designation of being on sale. It lends the customers to believe everything on that rack is the sale price." At this point, I had to leave as we were in a rush but seriously, that's some shady marketing. If you go here, be very cautious of the sales signs as even though this is in poor taste and most places would honor their faux-pas, the sales associate was not budging. Wasn't worth it to me but definitely makes me cautious of future purchases. Now the good part - I love finding places we can bring our dog!! haha.. simple yet effective marketing as we were heading to a camping trip with our dog and where else can you go get both? It's a nice big store ,visually very appealing. As you come in your approached by staff who want you to apply for their card ...they were the only staff who seemed willing to engage customers..I stood by the counter trying to buy binoculars,waiting for someone to help me for over 15 mins..as bass pro staff walked by and said nothing. One of the other people waiting finally interrupted a clerk behind the counter who was waiting on someone.. Asked if there was anyone else working in the area. Clerk told him to scan the code on the sign.. I have no clue what that does or means. If I wanted to use my electronics I would shop online to begin with. I would recommend you save yourself the headache and just hit Amazon. Probably cheaper anyways. If you do decide to go and get fed up with the crappy service at bass pro , the casino nearby is pretty decent and the people there are nice and helpful. Barely 3 stars, when you walk in you are greeted and it is nice. But it's downhill from there. I was there on a Sunday there was no one working the archery dept, so I picked out what I needed on my own. Then I go to gun counter where I see 4 customers seemingly being helped by 5 or 6 employees. 1 employee looks at me and asks, "did you scan into the queue", I said "no I have just looking" he replied rather abruptly, "well if you want to see something you need to scan into the queue". I am not in the habit of just randomly scanning QR codes bc when you do that you could giving them all kinds of permissions and the other problem I saw was how long they stayed with one customer basically BSing while other people are "waiting in the queue". For a company that prides itself on customer service I sure didn't see any that Sunday. That was my 3rd trip to that particular "store", I do not like the "queue" thing, it seems they use that so they can avoid dealing with other customers so they intentionally take their time. read more

I was in there to pick up an order that I purchased online and that process wasn't what I was expecting. My order was in a box instead of a bag like other places handled online orders. I decided to checkout there sunglasses since I was in the store. The sale associate working that day was awesome. I wish I had remembered her name. I ended up purchasing a pair of sunglasses and when I was walking the alarms on the door go off. I had my receipts for the sunglasses and my pickup order which didn't make any sense. Let's go down the list: 1. Bass Pro Shops violated my constitutional rights. Refusing to sell me a firearm because I have an apartment number. That's right, folks. The pseudo-intellectual cashier in their gun department told me he would not sell me a Ruger LCP Max, which he knew nothing about, because I have an apartment number. When I ordered him to speak to his manager about it, the result was the same. The Bass Pro Shop I was in is located at 1972 Power Plant Pkwy. Hampton, VA. 23666. I intend for inform the NRA, my congressman, and Ruger Firearms about this. By the way, I purchased a handgun a few months ago from Superior Pawn & Gun, an AR-15 two years ago from Freedom Outdoors, and a pistol from Superior Pawn and Gun before that, all with addresses that included apartment numbers. I will also inform these businesses that Bass Pro Shops accuses they broke the law every time they sold a firearm to someone who has an apartment number. I'm sure they could use the laugh. READ ON! 2. Safety Violations: Brandishing firearms is a felony and also is very dangerous. The gun department cashiers at this Bass Pro Shop point guns at people and allow customers to do the same. I had to speak to one of their customers for pointing a gun at me. The gun cashier, however, allowed it. I've informed the Virginia Attorney General about that via email today and I will follow up. By the way, I have complained to floor managers and customer service reps there for years about their gun cashiers and customers pointing firearms at people. My complaints fell on deaf ears. 3. No hope of customer service at the gun department at that location: After waiting for 10 minutes on line, another customer informed me that we have to sign in to be served, but he didn't see the sign in sheet. We teamed up and approached one of their gun cashiers on this, even though he was talking with someone else. What choice did we have? The gun cashier told us that we have to scan our phones to a code on an unnoticeable sign then digitally input our data so be be on a digital list. He said when it was our turn our names would be called. I told the gun cashier I left my phone in my car. The gun cashier signed me in on his phone. What the gun cashier didn't tell me was that the way they "call your name" is by text. As my phone was in my car and I wasn't expecting a text from them about my turn on line, I was not informed when it was my turn. After a while I got suspicious and asked a busy gun cashier how they call people's names, he turned to another gun cashier who had a tablet, or something, in his hand and that gun cashier told me I was up. That was after a 20 minute wait. That's when he went and got the pseudo-intellectual gun cashier who refused to sell me the Ruger because I have an apartment number. During our conversation about the Ruger, I asked if it came with the 10 round and the 12 round magazines, as Ruger LCP Max pistols ought to. The pseudo-intellectual told me he would check, but didn't check. Instead he began to discuss the address on my driver's license and then told me that he did not believe I was allowed to purchase a firearm anywhere in Virginia because I have an apartment number. Believe it, or not! When I ordered him to speak to his manager about it, he went to the back for eight minutes. When he came out the answer was still no. Twenty-eight minutes of waiting, and confusion in their failed system, only to be blocked by stupid people who want to be replacements for our government. More focused on fishing and boats (duh, we're in the Navy capital) than other stores, they still had tons of camping gear and a huge section with gun accessories. Not as many guns as I was hoping to see with only a few counters of pistols plus shotguns and rifles. Oddly even though I was pretty blatantly browsing and looking at prices, not a single one of the gun salespeople asked if I needed assistance or if I wanted to see anything. Stepped over the the Bass Pro after having a nice lunch at the adjoining fish restaurant while passing through (see reviews of Islamorada Restaurant ... Islamic restaurant?). This is one of the larger Bass Pros I've been to. Did not have much time to browse. What I did look at was the handloading section. Excellent selection of everything. Prices typical of whats on the web, Cabellas, etc. Ammo selection showing depletion of many PD rounds. Must be the much hyped "Obama Scare II" gripping the eastern seaboard. Good grief... I really love this store! Of course, being a dog mom to four (soon to be five) dogs, anywhere that loves my dogs as much as I do is A-okay by me! As a dog trainer, it's one of my favorite places to train. I really enjoy all the different seasonal activities Bass Pro offers. My favorite has to be Christmas time when they have a whole section of games and crafts. My kids begs to go every year and of course everyone gets their pictures with Santa. The store itself is a wonderland for those that enjoy the outdoors. My husband comes to get new lures in his never ending attempt to catch every fish on the planet. Their firearms people are exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. We have purchased four firearms from this store and hubby already has plans to purchase another. His long conversations about the merits of this handgun versus that gives me time to wander the store in search of other dogs to pet. Bass Pro is a store my entire family enjoys going to. read more

I wish we had a bass pro shops in Hawaii! Of course, I wish all the items in the store were also legal in Hawaii as well. I wanted to buy a couple of slingshots for my kids but after researching it, found out that they were totally illegal in Hawaii. Not to mention all the guns and rifles that were for sale. Well I still enjoyed looking at all the things I can't own in Hawaii and enjoyed looking at the aquarium and liked that they had all the local species of fish that could be caught in the Hampton area. I thought that was cool. I thought the aquarium was to try lures on real fish but it was not. There were many sale items but the sale was only about 25% off on clearance items which to me were still not that cheap. I was tempted to get a wallet that was on sale but decided not to as they didn't have what I was looking for. Prices are little high on clothing but it is retail and they have to pay for their really nice store so its to be expected. Its great that you have handle the things that you want to buy prior to purchase. There was a small play area for kids to practice shooting which some kids were enjoying. Overall it was an enjoyable experience walking around and looking for things to purchase. Unfortunately, the stuff I wanted would not work coming home to Hawaii with me. read more

This is the other end of the outdoorsman rainbow. A huge airplane hanger of a warehouse stock full of everything anyone could ever imagine they wanted for their outdoor experience; be it camping, fishing, hunting, wilderness hiking, or self defense. This is the Valhalla of the outdoor life. It is to such things what The Home Depot is for do-it-yourself home improvement. Men go there and are soon overcome by the nearness to their dream world of toys. Some women are also soon intoxicated by the fumes. It is very similar to Cabella's in its homage to everyman's fantasy of being fully equipped for the Wild. Walking through the store in Hampton today looking for a few small pieces my brother in law needed in the handgun section, I was amazed to see very attractive men's clothing, a large tank of game fish, and a taxidermy display second only to the dioramas in the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences. The place was loaded with kids enjoying all the stimulation while dad and mom slipped away to take care of their needs. Surprisingly, Bass only had one of the things we wanted, and apologized that they could not keep certain ballistics in stock for use on a firing range. Still, I was totally impressed with what they did have, like hunters' tree stand kits, knives of every design and use imaginable, and at least 1,000 fishing rods line up like saplings waiting to be taken home and planted. And yes, their firearm department was buzzing with lovers of ironware. Prices were reasonable, and the guys working behind the counter were very knowledgeable patient and polite. You had to take a number and wait for it to be called in order to be served, and wait for nearly 30 minutes to be reached. That was a first. It seems Virginians, like Pennsylvanians, love being outdoors to commune with nature, and being prepared for anything and everything. Someplace like Bass' often feels like a museum it is so overwhelming in its provisions. There is so much to look at that you begin to feel slightly numb. Still, it is a worthwhile experience and one that I hope to have again. read more
