This small clothing store is in VB town center next to Zushi, where the paper source store used to be. I believe Madewell is a subsidiary of J Crew. At this location they only carry ladies clothes and, of those clothes, the only plus size items are jeans. They also carry some accessories like purses, shoes, barrettes, etc.
The staff is engaging and seems to know both the store stock and what kind of items I would need to find online. I saw a few nice pieces, I like the muted colors and evergreen styles.
I purchased a pair of plus sized jeans here. They were tucked on the back bottom shelf in front of the fitting rooms and I wouldn't have known they were there if not for the staff. They run a little expensive, around $80, but the lady who helped me said there was a sale that day. When I rang out I found the jeans were marked down even more. Not sure if it's the store policy to not sticker markdowns or sales.
The jeans themselves are a little thick, like true denim. They had a few fits/styles but none that really suited my curves. The boyfriend style I ended up with was the best of the three I tried on. They've been very nice on cold days. But I wouldn't wear them in hotter weather.
Later, I made an online purchase and needed to return a dress that didn't fit. They were extremely nice about that and I got my refund quickly. They were able to see in the store system whether there was the same dress in a smaller size or different color.
I also have one of their transport totes in canvas. I wish they'd bring that fabric back! They have the leather ones in store, but I just can't bring myself to buy leather, for my own reasons.
Ultimately, this is not an ideal shop for the plus sized gal, but we can find a couple things here. Luckily knowledgeable staff makes the visit better and the store is tidy and organized. read more
