There were only two people helping 6 groups of customers and once they did get to me they were unknowledgeable and disappeared for more than a few minutes to find an answer to every question. Worst customer service. The associates are trained to make you uncomfortable in the store. One associate walked around the entire store asked me if I needed help when I needed help I could not find him then I asked another associate if she can help and she seemed bothered helping me. Overall most uncomfortable experience, I have their credit card for my team expense and I will be canceling it and just directly shop online some where else. I went to Dick's Sporting Goods to return/exchange some skates that I purchased from their online store. Their online store sent me the wrong size. They did not have the right size in stock so I ordered them, again, in the store. Because of the inconvenience, I asked if they could arrange expedited shipping. They couldn't, but Roy (who I assume is the manager or at least have management authority) asked me if there was anything else I needed in the store that he could discount for me. I picked out a really cool helmet that cost around $30 and he took $20 off! I thought that was really cool. Roy was also really helpful with helping me try on skates to make sure I ordered the right size and helped me try on and pick the right helmet for me. A friend bought a treadmill a few days ago from the Woodbridge location. I needed one so I went to the Springfield store today, ready to buy one myself. Went to the treadmill section. The gentleman that was helping had zero interest, not even a 'how are you' or 'how can I help you'. Spent 5 minutes trying to get the treadmill to turn on. Told me it's not working and treadmills are sold out and then walked away. Terrible service and treadmills sold out? My friend literally bought one a few days ago. We came the other night to look for a workout machine hoping someone could help guide us or show what they have in stock. My husband and I waited and had to go get an employee to ask for help. The gentlemen said, "okay no problem. We will find someone to help you".... 45 minutes later and still no one came. I love this store and the selection in this particular location is awesome. The floor staff is fine. But when you go to checkout they lack common courtesy. Nicole (whose tag even says management) checked us out and left much to be desired. She called us over and when we set our items down and looked to Nicole who was engaging in a conversation with a fellow employee and not even looking at us. We said hi how are you, and kept looking at her, waiting. She ignored us and continued her conversation as she began ringing up our items. When she finished ringing up and had the total she looked at me and said how are you. We didn't even engage with her at this point. What poor service for a fabulous store! read more

If I could give a zero I would give a zero. I ordered two expensive golf clubs from them. After being told yes - they could make a modification, they then told me they messed it up and would have to order the new part. After two weeks and no phone call I finally went into the store and they told me they would not order the part. NOT COULD NOT BUT WOULD NOT!!! I will never give them another penny. This place (the chain and the store itself) is/are now on my "do not patronize" list. I bought a High Sierra hydration pack online and used it for a few long runs (10-15 mile). Unfortunately, about halfway through a 20-mile run from my office to home, on a very hot and humid day, the bottom of the reservoir starting leaking and soon water was running down the back of my shorts. So now I'm ten miles from home, with dwindling water, and looking like I peed my pants. I ran a few miles out of my way to my neighborhood Dick's and explained the situation. The staff was not very empathetic or helpful, and gave me a hassle because it had been over 90 days since I ordered and I didn't have the receipt. (Hello? I'm in the middle of a 20-mile run...that's why I'm all sweated up in your store.) I didn't press for a cash return--I just wanted a replacement so I could finish my run and get home because I couldn't make it the whole distance without water. I ended up finding a Camelbak for $20 more that wasn't a good fit for me, and for which they grudgingly let me exchange the defective one and pay the extra $$. I felt treated like a "retail return scammer" the whole time. Fast forward a few weeks, and I found a hydration pack at REI that was a better fit for me. So I went back to Dick's to return the bulky, expensive one that I had used ONE time, and they stated that I couldn't return it for cash or store credit because I had used it (which I could have lied about, but didn't...). That was the first time I'd heard about that policy. It's certainly not well publicized. How about a label on the Camelbak saying "not returnable after use"? I called Dick's customer service and tried to get a store credit that way, but they cited they same poorly publicized return policy and refused to make and exception when I asked. Dick's--I get that you can't sell my Camelbak to other people due to sanitary reasons. But you messed up a chance to keep me as a customer. I'll be traveling the extra 20 minutes to go to REI from now on. read more

It was a very busy day for the entire Dick's staff, as the store was having a monster outdoor sale. Adam, ever the professional, regripped my clubs while simultaneously assisting fellow junior colleagues and fielding customer calls. He made sure my new grips were 'spot on' and before sending me to cash out, he made certain I was 100% comfortable with his work. Adam is a great ambassador for Dick's. Like all big-box "sporting goods" stores, Dick's Sporting Goods just can't have a very extensive selection of products for any one sport. For example, if you want a really comprehensive selection of offshore fishing gear, you're much better off at a store like Bass Pro Shops that specializes in fishing. But Dick's Sporting Goods in Springfield, VA is much more convenient to my home and often have what I need, so for that I give them four stars. I saw in the Yelp reviews that one person tried to return a used Camelback hydration pack and another person tried to return soccer shoes that they wore on the field. Neither product was defective -- they just didn't like how they fit. Dick's did the right thing, from a hygiene standpoint, and refused to take either purchase back. Nobody wants to buy a hydration pack that was returned with someone else's backwash in it, or shoes that have been on some stranger's sweaty feet. read more

This review is for Wayne from the Golf Department at the Springfield Dick's Sporting Goods store. Wayne was on his way to break (overheard him telling a coworker) when he saw my husband and I looking at golf clubs with confused looks on our faces. He stopped and asked us if we need any assistance and then spent roughly 30 minutes with us. He made sure my husband got the right clubs at a great price, and even went into the simulator with him and made sure he was 100% comfortable with the purchases. He was extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and made us feel right at home. He embodies everything you'd look for in a customer service oriented position. If he isn't already a manager, he should be. We walked out of the store with huge smiles on our faces, which almost never happens when you are rushing around to shop while "Nana" has your 10 month old. We had such a great experience and it was 100% due to Wayne. You have a very valuable employee there! read more

Based on my visit at 8:00pm on Tuesday 10/18/16. If I could leave negative stars, I would. I've been coming to this particular location for the past year, and have spent a good amount of money on golf equipment and accessories. I've also spent a decent amount of time hitting balls in the golf simulator room to try out new clubs with no interruptions, and have had good conversations with store associates and pga professionals, when available (note: I've always walked out with purchased merchandise). However, tonight after spending 10 minutes in the simulator room, a white male store employee with a mohawk type haircut walks in and asks if we were doing ok; we replied yes, and explained that my friend was trying to sample a few irons to purchase his very first set. The employee walks away; perfect as I'm a scratch golfer and probably could help my friend just fine. Five minutes later, the same guy comes into the room and states that if we exceed 10 more minutes, they would have to charge us $20. Since when? 1. There was no sign stating charges were applicable. 2. No time limit stated anywhere. 3. No customers waiting to use the room (the store was virtually empty) 4. We weren't being rowdy I told him I've never been approached with such incompetent customer service, and that this "rule" was b.s. He said they normally don't enforce the rule but are deciding the enforce it today. I told him that's absurd, and ignore him to hit a few more balls. Then a short chubby young white guy claiming to be the manager comes by and restates the $20 rule as my friend is asking me advice while hitting an iron. Not once did the employees ask how we liked the clubs, remotely try to help us or convince us to purchase an item. Isn't it their job to try to make a sale? (instead they were chatting in the corner amongst themselves while we were hitting balls) I explained that I've been purchasing items from this locations for some time, and that he would be losing a valuable customer should he continue to harass us. He clearly didn't care and proceeded being an incompetent prick. I hit a few more balls and and he intently watched expecting me to shank one (haha); dead straight and pure. I left the two dozen golf ball boxes I had in my hand for purchase on the shelf and proceeded to walk out. Not sure why he was following me and my friend? I turned around and asked for the store manager, and he claimed he/she was not in; understandable as it was 8:20 which is near closing time (9 or 9:30). I'll be contacting him/her to explain how rude and incompetent this so called "manager" was, and why the store lost a customer for life. The store name "Dicks" clearly speaks for the golf section associates and their service at this location. I'll be purchasing my golf equipment and accessories from GolfSmith or Golf Galaxy from here on out. read more

The age required by law to buy a rifle or shotgun amo is 18 I'm 20 and they would not give me a reason to why they can't sell it to me. I asked for a manager and he gave me attitude. worst customer service ever. I bought soccer cleats recently. Tried them at store, they were OK, Took them to register, paid for it, and before I pay I asked the cashier, what's the return policy? she didn't answer, was distracted by another co-worker.. So, I assumed it's like any other product, you have 90 days to return. So, I took my cleats to the field (happy), put them on, 15 minutes into playing I started to feel pain, I couldn't continue , so I left. Next day, I went back to store, after I cleaned by cleats, I went to one of the cashiers to return them, he said "sorry I can't help you, they are used on field, talk to "her", maybe she will help you" , and he threw my shoes to the next register like trash.. So , I look at "her" (don't know her name), she was busy too, she looked at me saying in a very high tone "can you wait a little", and she looked angry at her co-worker.. then she said the same, but I insisted that this was not clear (the return policy) when I purchased the pair... so she calls someone else to help me or maybe intimidate me maybe .. another assistant who said "we can't return these, they have been used" ... so I said "the receipt doesn't say that" .. he said "its written on the back sir, ... seriously??? who reads the back of the receipt??!! .. then i stated that I asked about the policy but I didn't get an answer , and the cashier didn't explain to me the return policy... he said "if she would explain the return policy it will take her 5 minutes to do so, plus it's written down there", and he pointed to a little black sign, that is twisted, down below the register, that no one would notice , as it's not in eye sight! ... I don't care if it takes 5 minutes to explain return policy.. I wasn't asking for return , I was asking for exchange into bigger size or store credit, would it really take 5 minutes to say "sir, if you wear these on the field, you won't be able to return them, even if they chop your toes into picees " !!!!! ... whoever I talked to was not friendly or flexible , I don't care about the money, the sales person was so worried about that he has to be able to re-sell the pair than losing customers.. They treated me like trash, didn't offer any help, and I ended up saying this to the associate" , I said "you know what, keep the pair, I don't want my money and will not keep your shoes" ... very bad customer service from beginning to end , bad advertisement. read more

Floor sales service is decent... but it seems every customer service question by phone or at the register is met with a patronizing attitude. Maybe policies aren't consistent across locations and that's why I'm met with nastiness anytime I have a specific question? Terrible place to use dick rewards and coupons. Sales associates at counters do not understand how they work and the register does not show the cost of items or savings of the rewards. Would try other dicks locations, never have a problem at fair oaks, Manassas, or Potomac mills locations. read more

I worked with a new employee (Chris) to get ski helmets and goggles for my kids. He was knowledgable and extremely helpful in tracking down what I needed and working with my two.....rambunctious boys. I've been in the store several times within the last year and always have a great experience with very helpful staff. It's sooooooo refreshing to find a store with superb customer service!!!
