I even discovered a couple nice features that I didn't know I had. I was tired of roaming the bay, burning gas, and not catching any fish. We used my boat and he brought a couple rods and I had a few on the boat. After we messed with the settings on my electronics, we were off to the races! He put us on some fish and I reeled in a keeper rockfish on my first cast with his rod and jig. I switched over to my rods, after he corrected my lure choice, and the fun kept going. While I fished, Tom kept score, unhooked the fish, and took pictures of my screen that he will annotate and send to me later. (And, his wife made us lunch!) We tried a few different spots and the final score was 7 keepers and 4 shorts. I brought two keepers home for dinner and we released the rest, all in good shape. As many people know, fishing can be really frustrating. It was worth every penny to figure out what I was doing wrong, and what I was doing right. We kept up a nice conversation throughout the day too. Tom has a couple years on me, but I got tired before he did. What a great day!

He was flexible with scheduling our half day excursion and checked in the day before to confirm our time. He even suggested that we go out early to avoid a potential thunderstorm to try and ensure we got our full 5 hours. On the boat, he and his first mate were informative, and we rode about an hour into the bay to the fishing area. Once we arrived, they quickly got all of the gear out and explained the process. Then the fish started coming! After 3 hours, we had caught our allocation, and made the trip back to the dock. At the dock we took pictures and Captain Steve cleaned and filleted our fish. Spacious cabin, comfortable seating inside and out. If your fishing with a small or very large party, Drew will accommodate. In short, Captain Drew was disorganized, lacked communication skills and was very rude. We booked this trip a year in advance and was quoted a price of $1200 for 6 people, and $200 any additional persons. Prior to the fishing trip, I texted the captain several questions to prepare for this trip, he either failed to respond or his response was delayed and lacked clarity. The lack of communication continued before and during the fishing trip. The captain texted me the day before the fishing trip at approximately 7:30 am and told us not to come down to Virginia Beach until we received confirmation from him that evening to ensure the weather was suitable for fishing. I had been checking the weather forecast for several days and it was supposed to be in the 70s, sunny and moderate winds and I conveyed that via text to the captain. What he attempted to do, but failed, is tried to get rid of our group so that he could make more money with another group of 16 versus 7 because the weather the next day was forecasted to be very windy. And the group of 16 was booked to go the day after our trip. When he realized we would not wait until we received confirmation since we were already in route, the captain raised the price to $1800 when he had already quoted us $1200 for the first 6 and $200 for any additional. I'm sure he raised the price to get us to cancel, which we did not do--sorry Captain More importantly, because he had to cancel a bigger group and stick with us, he failed to give us a safety briefing before departure. An epic fail as a Captain. At this point, he could care less about our safety. Money was priority for him. When we returned from the fishing trip, he continued to request more money, only this time, it was for two mates. Everything should have been all worked out before we ever pulled off of the dock. Bottom line, this man lacks integrity, he was rude, and was a male chauvinist. I would not recommend this company for a fishing trip.

Getting there was a little tricky since parking is street-only, so I highly recommend arriving early like we did. We were able to find a spot without issue, but I can imagine it getting tougher later in the day. It was also a bit confusing at first since you have to walk through a closed marina gate marked "No Trespassing" to get to the dock. Thankfully, a crew member from Miss Susie met us at the second gate and escorted us to the boat (Miss Susie III). Once onboard, both the captain and his mate were incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely funny. They gave us a clear walkthrough of what to expect and were very patient with the first-timers in our group. Everyone felt comfortable, even those new to fishing (and there were several). We had modest hopes and just wanted to catch a few fish but ended up catching over 50 catfish between the seven of us! It seemed like non-stop action, and everyone on board was raving about the experience afterwards. Several folks even said they hoped we'd do it again and I guarantee you that we will. This is very likely becoming a yearly tradition! If you're looking for a fun, well-run charter experience with a great crew, I can't recommend Miss Susie Charters enough. We had a blast!

We were a group of nine adults and one child with this being the first time for most of the group. We didn't catch our limit of fish but everyone had a great time on the water. I can honestly say that they gave us their best. We moved around when nothing was biting and we did not stop trying. We obeyed all laws and threw back all that were under 19 inches , which seem to be more than what we could keep. Had fun! Next time We'll try an early morning trip.
