The entire 22 man crew had amazing experiences with Capt Drew and his incredible mate Andrew. The good lord blessed us with a picture perfect day, calm winds, blue sky's, and due to the skills on the boat a full cooler. The boat is BIG, hence "THE BIG WORM" lol. Spacious cabin, comfortable seating inside and out. If your fishing with a small or very large party, Drew will accommodate. Unfortunately we did not take advantage of the lunch (bbq) that is available as an up charge for the party. Make sure you inquire about food options!!!! If your looking for a great boat and crew give Capt Drew call, you won't be disappointed.

The first fishing trip with Captain Drew went well. This most recent fishing trip was a total…read moredisaster. In short, Captain Drew was disorganized, lacked communication skills and was very rude. We booked this trip a year in advance and was quoted a price of $1200 for 6 people, and $200 any additional persons. Prior to the fishing trip, I texted the captain several questions to prepare for this trip, he either failed to respond or his response was delayed and lacked clarity. The lack of communication continued before and during the fishing trip. The captain texted me the day before the fishing trip at approximately 7:30 am and told us not to come down to Virginia Beach until we received confirmation from him that evening to ensure the weather was suitable for fishing. I had been checking the weather forecast for several days and it was supposed to be in the 70s, sunny and moderate winds and I conveyed that via text to the captain. What he attempted to do, but failed, is tried to get rid of our group so that he could make more money with another group of 16 versus 7 because the weather the next day was forecasted to be very windy. And the group of 16 was booked to go the day after our trip. When he realized we would not wait until we received confirmation since we were already in route, the captain raised the price to $1800 when he had already quoted us $1200 for the first 6 and $200 for any additional. I'm sure he raised the price to get us to cancel, which we did not do--sorry Captain More importantly, because he had to cancel a bigger group and stick with us, he failed to give us a safety briefing before departure. An epic fail as a Captain. At this point, he could care less about our safety. Money was priority for him. When we returned from the fishing trip, he continued to request more money, only this time, it was for two mates. Everything should have been all worked out before we ever pulled off of the dock. Bottom line, this man lacks integrity, he was rude, and was a male chauvinist. I would not recommend this company for a fishing trip.

He was flexible with scheduling our half day excursion and checked in the day before to confirm our time. He even suggested that we go out early to avoid a potential thunderstorm to try and ensure we got our full 5 hours. On the boat, he and his first mate were informative, and we rode about an hour into the bay to the fishing area. Once we arrived, they quickly got all of the gear out and explained the process. Then the fish started coming! After 3 hours, we had caught our allocation, and made the trip back to the dock. At the dock we took pictures and Captain Steve cleaned and filleted our fish. I would recommend My Girl Charters to anyone looking to do a fishing trip out of the DC area, especially for novices or those with kids. Thanks again Captain Steve.

Very friendly and made our time on the boat a great trip. We started out catching little bait fish and even though they were small they were a hell of a lot of fun to catch. Pulled in like 40 or 50 of them the first 90 minutes or so then headed out just past the bay bridge for Rockfish. Ended up catching the boat limit. We were pulling them in one after another. Great time. Will definitely do it again with them.

It's still in the testing phase but we had a great time. No issues at all. Our journey started at Truxton Park Boat Launch. You have to park in the parking lot and walk about 2-3 min to the boat launch. We completed the consent and boarded the watercraft and took a brief tour of Annapolis while Andy "walked on water" to propel the boat. We saw tons of yachts and expensive houses. Next, we disembarked and sat on a blanket under a shaded tree for lunch and laughs . Andy is great with kids. After lunch, we hopped into the water for some swimming ‍‍ and water football (life jackets provided). Andy played an awesome water playlist to include the theme song for JAWS , Gilligans Island , and Titanic . After swimming, we got back on the boat for some stand-up paddling and squirting birds with a water gun. We saw a few beautiful herons and ospreys . We also waved and chit chatted with a few boaters and kayakers. It was a creative adventure! The Captain and one crew member were really excellent. They made sure to cover critical aspects of the boat and abide by all the safety precautions. I actually timed the charter and we were on the water under sail for almost exactly 3 hours. We got there a little early, and the process of familiarizing us with the boat took a few minutes, so the entire process was probably closer to four hours. The boat was clean and in great shape. Some of the electronics we're not working but that was not an issue for our charter. We were provided with basic cold drinks and bagged treats as well as a bottle of wine. We own a Catalina 22 sailboat so we were familiar with sailing, but sailing a Catalina 42 Mark II was a lot different. I was thrilled that the captain offered me the opportunity to sail and tack the boat for an extended period, of course under his watchful eye and guidance. In short it was a very memorable experience and we had a blast! The wind and weather were perfect.

It's a small beach with a short shore and there is shallow water. I saw herons and folks using metal detectors. The sandy area had cool shells and some interesting bugs. I liked that there was a clean bathroom between the parking lot and the beach. There were picnic tables on the sand where we enjoyed snacks. They were shaded so it was nice. The bad: There are lots of jelly fish that can definitely sting so you basically cannot get into the water. No tents are allowed. The interesting: I saw lots of dogs here running around in the water. It looks very dog-friendly despite other reviews saying there are signs that don't allow dogs.

Originally, we were interested in Matapeake Beach because of the dog beach. However for our first visit (of hopefully many visits), we decided to leave the dog at home because it was super hot. But, I think in the future, we will take the dog if we can arrive to the beach around 8 am. The second reason we were interested in this beach: It is fairly close to Silver Spring, MD. With a departure of 9am, we arrived at the beach around 10 am on a summer weekday. For the most part, we did not experience too much traffic (on a weekday) in both directions Silver Spring-Matapeake-Silver Spring. Also, I think there were 1-2 tolls in each directions. Overall, I thought the beach/park was very clean and well-maintained. I'll note that there are not very many amenities (if any) on or near the beach the beach (e.g., food vendors), which necessarily was not a bad thing for me. Although parking is limited, it is free (a very pleasant surprise) as of June 2025. I'm not 100% sure, but I think there were like 50 (or less) parking spaces. Since we visited on a weekday, we did not have any trouble finding a spot in the parking lot. However, I can imagine that parking my be a bit of a nightmare on weekends and holidays. Also, the access to the beach was free (another pleasant surprise). The folks at the beach were pretty friendly and respectful of their surroundings -- for instance, I did not hear super loud music (just the soundtrack of waves, a few dogs barking, and a few kids playing); see people acting a plum fool; notice substantial litter (or other not so fun things) on the beach. Even though we were disappointed that we had to take down our beach tent, the park ranger was super nice about it. The water was a pretty smooth with little to no waves so it is nice for little humans and dogs. I think I had to walk about 0.25 miles to get to a point where the water was waist level to me, but that was a VERY minor inconvenience. Overall, I think this is a great beach for a quick day (or half a day) trip.
