She was extremely helpful and holding a offshore sailing jacket that was on sale when I called the store set it aside and it was ready when I came in. But more importantly, I came back a second time for assistance with installing a new CO2 cartridge to my PFD and she took the time to walk through the process with me to ensure that it was correctly installed. I've been going to this location for about 5 years now and I always either find what I need or get the advise needed to do so. I've bought boat supplies and recently just purchased two air up SUPs. The stores manager and her assistant are the ones I usually deal with, just because they were the ones that are usually on the floor when I would go in and now always greet me when I return. That is part of good customer service, and they have that! The store is better arranged now with the new build out. People talk about price $$$$, well it is the boating industry. Overpriced is right on Bronze wool. a package with 3 in a package was $13.00 online I can get 3, with 3 in a pack for $8.00. So at West Marine it would have cost me almost $40!!!! Nice looking selection of all kinds of boat stuff though! read more

Now that Donez Miller is no longer working here my go-to is Dominic. Dominic is always extremely helpful. One time he spent an hour going over every fish finder to ensure I got the best product for me. If I ever need something not in the store that West Marine carries, he is the first to get it ordered or transferred for me. Every once in a while I bring in my dog and it is always fun to see the staff play with him, Dominic always gives him a treat and will sit and play with him for minutes. Some of the staff can be kind of timid around my dog, but not Dominic. I have never had a bad experience here, the store is super clean, and I will always return. read more

Strange place. This West Marine seems to be the waste land of this chain. First time in, like in all West Marines, a nice cashier greeted me. But, this one got weird when I was asked if I needed help by a guy named Dominic ( or some name close to that). I told him what I was looking for and he took me to it, sure enough. First thing was flares, Which you can't buy online because they're hazmat. There was a decent sale price that I'd saw online. It was for the large Orion kit. I thanked him hoping to browse a bit. The guy abruptly asks me if I had a sailboat. Nope, power, I replied. Being the second thing I was looking for was a life jacket, I assumed he was referring to that. Okay then, strait to business. He directed me to the jackets, but this is when it got weird. As we made our way there he started cursing under his breath here and there and adjusting items on the shelf. I figured he was a disgruntled manager with the typical lackadaisical employees messing with his sense of order. His next abrupt question was "where"? Guessing he meant where will I be traveling, I told him I was bringing my boat up form NC to the Chesapeake. He's says "okay, ocean". During this he's pulling down jackets and reading tags, mumbling curse words and tossing jackets. I'm kinda taken back by this and since I knew what I wanted already. I was trying to weasel out of the conversation. Saying, oh don't worry about it, I'll just order online, I don't see what I want anyway. Well, that ain't happening, social queues completely missed, questions a kept comin', and strange bits of information kept getting sputtered out. The best I could figure was he was trying to tell me that I didn't want a harnessed life jacket because they're for sailboats. Honestly, if the price is close to the same, I'll take the harness. But, I knew that would start a whole thing. Then he tells me to come to the counter because they'll have to order it. Now, I hadn't told him which model I was looking for yet. Yikes. He shoots of to the counter. I stand there looking at the life jackets thinking maybe I should escape and just go to check out. Nah, this guy is too weird. So, I walk up to the counter where he's at. He's muttering and whipping catalog pages back and forth. I asked him, Hey man, are you okay? He says, yes. I said, it seems like you're having a really bad day. He says, I just don't like it when things aren't put back. ..... (Maybe you shouldn't work in retail was my first thought). At this point, I figure that I've still got 15mins before check out with this guy. Who, is seemingly coming unhinged. We go over what I want a few times and revisit it again, and again. He's called his manager over several times for help. I'm smirking at the goofiness of the whole thing. He's pressing the register screen so hard that it's rocking off its base. Whoa. Long story short, he did get me what I wanted. It took him awhile. Being the store isn't stocked to well. That's not his fault. But, this guy, knowledgeable as he may be, isn't the guy you want on customer duty. I like weird people and kooky personalities and maybe this guy has some issues he's struggling with. But, strong management wouldn't put this guy on the front line. I'm not saying he should go, I think he'd fare better in the inventory realm. Something to think about... read more

I've been going to this location off and on since purchasing a boat in 2010. I have had terrible customer service and have been sold the wrong products. I needed wheel grease for my trailer. I took pictures of my trailer wheels with my phone and showed the employee I was working with. He sold me a tub of green grease. Said that's what I needed for my type of trailer. He told me to uncap the cover and pack it in there. Well I actually needed a grease gun and cartridge which I picked up at BassPro after failing to pack grease in a spot that didn't need it. I was there last week to pickup spark plugs for my outboard. I called ahead. The woman I spoke with was ending her shift. Rather than walking me 20 feet to the isle with the spark plugs she told me someone would help me. About 15 minutes later I waved down the only employee that wasn't slowly working the single open cash register. He pointed me out to the correct ones and I was then in line to purchase. At the register the employee was really strange. It was like talking to C3PO. I told him we were going gar fishing in the morning and had hoped to catch some before they spawned and 'went away' for the season. His reply in a robotic manner was 'they don't go away, they just go somewhere else in the river." Correct me if I'm wrong but the weirdo just said the same thing I did. I'm done going to this store. Weirdos behind the register who are socially retarded and can't have a conversation (I could go on about the conversation but its a waste of time), employees who don't really care about helping customers, and employees who sell me the wrong products. I'll stick to BassPro and Ebay. This store is a retail embarrassment (I worked outdoor retail for almost a decade). read more

Swung by looking for a replacement kill switch lanyard. I had called earlier in the week and after asking for an outboard lanyard was told that they had a multiple-fit type. When I arrived there, the cashier rudely answered where I could find it, and directed me to where the OMC lanyards were. Not what I was looking for. I did see a $20 PWC multiple-lanyard, but again, not what I was looking for. They had no associates on the floor, so I gave up and left. Only marine shop near Washington Sailing Marina. My husband needed a pair of sailing booties to go over his dry suit since he lost one the previous week Laser sailing in high winds. Great selection, many pair in his size. He's been here before for other sailboat items and has always found what he's needed for the boat. I grew up sailing so know that marine items always cost more but, when you really need that boating item, West Marine always has it. read more
