This place is pretty nice, but a little expensive. I would MUCH rather go to a smaller sports store with knowledgeable sales people.

This store is so poorly run. I went in to purchase a rifle so I knew I was going to have to wait a day or two to buy it. I go in Friday to pay for it, they say I don't qualify for their "on the spot background check" even though my record is spotless and I've owned firearms before this." So they say they'll call me the next day (Saturday). I don't get a call until Monday so I get to wait for 24 hours AFTER that. I finally go into to pick the damn thing up and to my surprise the store's trigger lock is still on it. So I get to drive 30 minutes back to the store for them to take off their own damn lock. Most poorly run store I've ever been to. read more

Came here to pick up some fishing supplies late at night. Aurelio (I hope I spelled that right) went out of his way to help me with everything I needed, well beyond what I was expecting. I was in and out in a matter of minutes. The shopping center this is in is fairly large, and in spite of some turnover, is mostly filled. The parking lot design is probably the worst in a hundred mile radius. Traffic is funneled down single paths, crossing foot traffic, before you get a chance to turn into a parking area. Avoid during high traffic times (December). The shopping center owners should tear it up and start over. read more

I went here for winter clothing such as base liner and other wool clothing, I know that brick and mortar stores have higher prices than Amazon because there is more overhead but 3 times the price? Come on, Amazon had base liner for 49.99 and Dick's had it for 149.99, same brand, size, everything not to mention the other winter clothing I wanted such as gloves, scarves and socks. I went here because I figured a camping store would have the warmer clothing over Kmart, Target and Sears. Over last summer it was the same problem for fishing lures, poles and other fishing gear, I'm surprised this place is lasting longer than Dominick's. Will never in my life shop in this xxxx hole again. Their check out process is about 15 mins per customer resulting in looooong lines wasting your day. Once it's your turn they try and rip you off by changing their prices from the posted clearance signs to a price three times the regular price. When asked they say oh the sale ended. Clearance sale ended no matter what any of the signs say. read more

Just did an in store pick up for an online order. It was a very pleasant experience. The staff were nice and attentive. My order was retrieved quickly and the associate offered to help me load it. I also feel like I got a pretty good deal on the purchase. I look forward to doing more business at this store. read more

The fact that it took 15 minutes to get help in the shoe section sucks... And the fact that they don't carry a size 12.5 is stupid... How do you expect me to buy running shoes from here when you guys only carry a 12 or 13... You do know that running shoes are supposed to be a half size bigger.... Two stars for long check out time, a horrendous online order/return policy and incompetent employees. They did not have my size in a pair of shoes I wanted so I asked if we could order them in store online. The employee was slow and confused. He had to ask two other employees for assistance. It took us about 20 minutes to complete the online order in store. Then I get home and realize the employee ordered me Men's shoes! I don't even think he looked to see what gender they were for. It also took my boyfriend 15-20 minutes to check out at a register and the lines were no excuse. I call the next day and am informed even though the item hasn't shipped I can't prevent it from being processed because 30 MINUTES after an order is placed it's locked and you can not undo it. The customer service woman made no offered to help fix the situation even after I informed her this was their mistake. She was assisting me to make a second purchase online without even asking if I wanted to pursue this option. Why should I be out double the amount of money and make an extra trip to your poorly managed store for a mistake made by your employee? The only reason I'm giving any stars is because I like the products Dicks has, but I think I will think twice before placing orders and will not go there is I have any plans the entire day. read more

The location caught my attention just because of how big it is. We were hoping to find some ice skates here because the Kenosha location had only a small variety on the sizes. I should say we were mainly looking to size my girlfriend for hockey skates. Turns out that this big, I really mean BIG, location didn't have ANY ice skates! I also didn't get any help from employees. It was hard to find one but no big deal. I was acknowledged when I was upstairs looking at fishing stuff. I had to look at everything before believing that they didn't have ice skates here, they did have ice hockey stuff though. I went with a two star rating because I was eventually acknowledged upstairs and on my way out. They have a ton of stuff here just not what I was looking for. read more

Never been here but it was the closest place to home I could find to repair a golf club. Went to the service desk for golf. Waited about 5 minutes and could hear someone in the back. Looked at choice of grips and found a very limited choice and a lot of empty bins. Decided to hit the button to request service. Another 7 minutes went by and a young female employee apparently came to check on the request, did not address me, and went to find the person who should have been at the desk. By the sounds from the room in which he was, he or someone else was hitting balls into a net. A man who I would guess was 60 or over, like me, slowly sauntered over. His affect was flat like he was on psychotropic medication or had had electroshock therapy in the past. He was barely conversant. I showed him a broken-shafted driver - came to me that way courtesy of UPS - and tried to explain what I wanted done. He told me the guy who replaced shafts was supposed to be in the next day. He didn't actually start to do any paperwork. He also told me that guy the next day might not be able to get to it promptly. I told him I had only come in because I didn't feel like driving up into construction in Vernon Hills to go to Golf Galaxy - part of the same company as Dick's - and I could see I should have. He wasted an hour for me, taking into consideration the extra distance and time it then took me to get to Golf Galaxy. I saw several other employees appearing to be standing around, occupying space, and drawing a paycheck as I left the store in a bad mood. I will never patronize this store again. I can tell you that I did indeed drive to Golf Galaxy and they attended to my club immediately and finished the job a day ahead of the promised time. Maybe this store is OK for purchasing apparel, which likely can be had for less online from another source, but they are not interested in serving the local golfers. read more

When I first walked in I was in shock. I had no idea you could put mountains inside of sporting goods stores like that! I wanted a bike, but for some reason they store them on the second floor. Which meant to get it out I had to find the corner elevator. But when selecting the bike, I found a helpful and attentive sales guy who didn't push me into buying anything I didn't want, but was real with me about what I should and shouldn't worry about. (No, color is not the most important feature; yes, you should take a test ride; if you want to get on the road, you should have a helmet.) I was quite pleased with him. Still though, big items or things with wheels should be on the first floor so I can ride straight out the door! read more

I browse here often and shop here infrequently. The coolest thing they had going for it was the indoor climbing wall (which they are trying to conceal behind backpacks and stretchy pants). The shoe section is a joke (I dare you to try and get someone to notice or help you). At the end of the winter season you can usually get a good deal on snowboard stuff, if that's what you're into...Not much else to say about this place... read more

This year my boss convinced me to a run a 5k. I am not an active person at all so I really had no gear to even start training for the race. Sure enough, for my birthday he gave me a gift card for this place so i could get the essentials. I went in at 8pm and the only employee i saw was the cashier. I fumbled around the women's section trying to find pants in my size for over 30 minutes and not a single employee came by. I finally found stuff to try on and you have to ring a doorbell by the fitting rooms for assistance. I literally rang it twice and had to wait over 10 minutes for someone to show up. If it wasn't for the gift card I would never shop here. Customer Service is non-existant and if you are a bigger gal you will not find anything that fits. read more

This store has some great sales, and I am always looking for a bargain. As an avid runner, and work-out nut, I like buying new running Capri pants from here. I have purchased the following brand-names: Nike's, Asics, Mizuno's and Under Armour for some of my running gear. I have been to this store several times over the last three years. I actually like the selection much better at Sport's Authority, because they always seem to have my size. This store can be "hit or miss" for me in terms of whether or not they have my size. The positive is that it has two floors (levels) and it is a fairly large store. I cannot say anything about Customer Service, because I have never been approached and asked "May I help you find something" or "Did you find everything okay" or "Are you looking for something specific today?" Oh yeah, I guess their customer service is non-existent (at least in my case). read more

I came in here because I needed my ice skates sharpened. Sports Authority told me thay would take an hour. So I called Dicks ahead of time and asked how long it would take. The nice guy on the phone told me 15 minutes no problem. I need them for 2pm today...... So I brought them in right away. The girl at the counter told me MAYBE they will get to them today. I pressed her for a time, and she just told me they would call me. I asked the man taking my skates, he said 20 minutes... To which the girl replied, well we will just call you. It's an hour later, still no skates. I mean it only takes 5 min to sharpen. read more

Josh in hunting was amazing!!! Knows a ton about rifles and taught me a few things! Also, Robert helped me with finding ammo cheaper in other places. Even tho I ended up buying from here! Lol.. Still, amazing for someone to suggest other aces to save a few dollars. Most of all, Lisa at the registers was on point! Helped me save a bunch on my orders and definitely made me experience with them much better! I'll mainly be coming back here because of Lisa and josh for knowing his rifles and ammo! What is the point of loading your store with merchandise, locking it behind glass in a case and then providing no staff to wait on you? At this store, the second floor is a proverbial ghost town, when it comes to employees. At one point, three customers were standing at the same case for service. Not a soul around. I thought surely there must be someone in the next department, NO. So I tried the one after that, NO. I walked the entire 2nd floor and found no one!!! read more

When my friends and I went in people were looking at us like we were going to hurt them. Then we went up the escalator and we were not being loud. When we got to the second level the lady there said the escalator is on the other side. We had no clue what she meant so we went around looking for things to buy. And she said guys you have to leave and forced us to go down the escalator. I don't get why she kicked us out because some of us were looking to buy things. Just because there was a lot of us she didn't have to assume we were there to cause trouble. I am just disappointed because usually Dicks is a nice place to go for sports attire and I will not be going there again. The name suits the employees. read more

I have been coming here as long as they've been open. I've read people complain about lack of staff, but I've never had that problem. Maybe occasionally I've had to look for somebody. I have bought Keen's, tennis gear, cycling gear, knives for sailing, and camping gear here. Most recently I bought a Nathan's quick shot water bottle here. I realized after several weeks of using it that it was defective and leaked a little. I brought it back without a receipt after 4 weeks and they exchanged it no hassle. I paid 5 dollars to get a bigger bottle. I recently gave a bad review to bass pro shop in gurnee. Almost exact same situation a folding knife was defective and I wanted to exchange it with a receipt two days after purchase. They talked down to me and in general it was a big hassle. Im a senior citizen and i came to exchange a sweatshirt for my grandson for size. The associate named Llasmine told me go back and get another one and get back in line. I then asked her if she could have someone get me the same one in medium as opposed to small. After several dirty looks she called another lady to get me the sweatshirt. She has no understanding of older people and she was real rude making nasty faces all the while as i still had to wait. Finally a young man intervened and helped me. This is the first time i encountered a snippy associate with an attitude at Dicks. I hope she leaves soon. Dicks could be better off without her. It is difficult to walk through the store when you are arthritic. I had no other needs but she didnt understand. read more

Customer assistance is beyond awful. Every time I have walked in there, no matter what section you are in, there is no help. This place is either under-staffed, or just lacks customer service. One of the many times being here, looking for something, I asked a cashier for assistance because there was no-one on the floor. He pointed in an area saying upstairs around a certain section, instead of calling on the radio saying a customer needs help finding something. The staff acts as if you know what section they are talking about and where exactly to find it, instead of guiding you to where the item is. read more

So, where do i begin. I began researching a very bare bones rifle for deer hunting. Once settling on a model i then started shopping prices and Dicks had a sale going for about $50 off this rifle and the lowest around by about $30. Done, i thought. So i go to the store to handle the rifle and make sure I'm making a decent decision. No rifle on display so i ask about it. Salesman is pleasant and was there at the time i was which is rare for this place and agrees to go check the back. Moments later he produces the rifle in question and everything checks out...solid firearm. Great i say, online lists it at $289. He says oh, we have it at $349 and it's not in the weekly ad. Ok, i say, visibly annoyed. Well I'll just buy online and come pick up in store. No sir. Not with Dicks busted website. Rifle description was inaccurate and when i got what i figured would be the right configuration it wouldnt let me add it to the cart. Skunked. I determined to buy that rifle after realizing driving to the nearest Cabelas an hour away was too big of a pain in the ass so i headed back to Dicks the next day to make a case for the $289 price. Same associate, again quite friendly and recognizes my face. I asked him to see the rifle again and to check the price because i dont want to pay $349 as tagged. He scans the upc with his laser doodad and lo and behold price came up $289. Excellent! Took care of the paperwork and payment and left to wait the mandatory waiting period. Associate said he'd call when the background check cleared. He did, and 24 hours later i headed back to make the pick up. No problems, smooth as glass except all of illinois and Cook county BS taxes but nevermind. So i get the thing home but leave it in the car to wait for cover of darkness so the whole gun grabbing universe doesnt know I'm walking in with a gun. I finally bring it in and open the store sealed box only to find the trigger lock from the store is still installed. Tried all my trigger lock keys to see if any would open it by chance and no such luck, so now im pissed because i have to bring it back to be unlocked. The next day i call in advance to let them know my quandary and ask how they want me to handle this as im sure they dont want me walking through the store with the gun regardless of trigger lock or box amd suggested they bring the key to my car and unlock it in my trunk and then I'll be on my merry way. She tells me to call when im close and she'll have a lodge associate or store manager meet me in front. Ok. No prob. I call back, say ill be there in 2 minutes and describe my car. I get out and walk inside and immediately lock eyes with two employees who were clearly waiting for me. Brief introduction and im handed an envelope while she says heres $20 in gift cards for the inconvenience. Ok, unexpected, and thanks very much! Other associate comes out to my car and removed the lock. Im giving 4 stars but id like to go 3 1/2. Good on them for making this right without me ever complaining. (To them at least...went off about it the night before and was simply furious). The service was good, though the pricing knowledge was lagging, and minus the obvious whoopsie, it was a decent experience. Without the compensation, i would have rated a 3, but since they did make up for it with cash for ammo or accessories or whatever it made it more digestible of an incident. read more

Went here last night for the special sale on Blackhawks Championship gear, They were all extremely helpful even though the sudden rush of fans was overwhelming. Alot of the items had already been sold out, but the staff they had worked their butts off to help the customer find the right size shirts, and they knew exactly what they had left. The cashiers were all very efficient, and it took alot less time than I expected to load up on Hawks gear. read more
