This is a well stocked store. We've picked up shorts and other clothing there and there are always a lot of options. There also seems to be a lot of employees who work there, although none of them have ever spoken to me except the one girl at the checkout counter who shrieked "next" when I was waiting to pay. Although she was kind of shouting in general so maybe it wasn't directly at me. She was able to look at her phone while checking me out but she removed all the security tags so that is a win. I've never had to wait too long in line to get checked out so really can't complain. For clothing, I have to say this Dick's is great although for service it's not terrific so I figure that equals a three star rating. read more

Awful, disinterested servjce in shoe dept. Lots of sboes on display but no one to check whether they are in stock in a given size. One "sales" person finally gave a desultory scan of the upc code on the display shoe, and then disappeared, more interested in watching soccer on his phone. I won't beback. read more

Not only is the store a mess but the selection for certain products and sports is appalling. Some sports have four isles or an entire part of the store while others have half a shelf!!! If you need any shoe you should probably find another store after going through more than ten shoes and asking if they were available in two different sizes we were left with absolutely nothing!! I have not gone to Dicks Danbury in quite sometime and they have really improved!!! The selection was so crazy they have 3-4 golf simulators! Good fitness workout zone area too. It's small but you can't get upset about it! You keep walking and before my eyes I land at the mall?!?! WHAT?!?! So I was able to get multiple shopping done in one visit. Just had the extreme opposite experience in customer service! The young man in the hiking boot department was most helpful in getting a kid size boot from the back! I wish I had his name, kudos to you! However, the check out service was awful! 4 people standing around talking, talking with no acknowledgment of me ready to make my purchase. Finally someone moved and the three continued their conversation. No, acknowledgement of me, the customer at all while taking my purchase and running the transaction. He then pushed my receipt to me. I just looked at him, he finally said thank you and one of the women said 'have a nice day.' I really didn't need to hear your conversation!! Take it to the break room. Forget going there for women's softball stuff. Contrary to the merchandising there are no softball pants for women. This is the 3 rd year I have tried to get pants there and they only have little girls, men's and boys. Not only that we were going to buy a catchers mitt. No one there to help . Maybe it's because we're New Yorkers acclimated to grudging, grouchy service as our norm -- but we've actually found Dick's Sporting Goods employees to be pleasant and helpful, contrary to many prior reviewers. It's true that finding a staff person can feel a bit like a game of hide and seek given the sheer size of the store. It is literally a big, huge box. But in our experience, once found, staff were able to advise knowledgably about picking out a good kayak for our needs, fitting ice skates for our kids -- stuff that we consider above and beyond for a Big Box Store employee. This year, when it came time to load a new kayak onto our car, a really nice young man was willing to lend a hand, standing outside in the drizzle for a good ten minutes to help my husband tie our purchase to the roof rack. I don't know if prices are great across the board, but for things like canoes, kayaks, tents and other larger items, prices certainly seem reasonable, especially compared to the LL Beans and REIs in these parts. Bonus: - The company made a principled decision to stop selling assault style weapons, post Parkland school shooting. This wins my personal loyalty as a customer for life. - They have a reasonably clean bathroom for those inevitable, "Mommy, I have to go RIGHT NOW!!!" moments. read more

This store is always such a mess and so disorganized. I know people are back to school shopping and it's tax free but wow. I looked at one entire aisle of boys shoes and the displays were boys but each box I opened in my sons size was a female shoe. There's boxes of shoes all over the floor, benches etc and there isn't any room. It's a sloppy mess. I couldn't even find the boys clothes. I say "youth athletes" but it was all girl clothes. Omg the check out line was ridiculous at the back of the store. 2 cashiers were open and the line was through the golf shoes and the wait was so slow. Yawn. Collectively that is the way the store treats you, but from all their chats they are expecting a "visit"'. Who knows who? But who cares when there are not prices on 40% of merchandise. They are moving things around, but camping gear has NOT MOVED in 4 months and still no prices on chairs, etc. The checkout is usually fine and cheery, but damn, the pony-tailed basketball player grill literally too slow drinks from her thermos twice while she ringing up the total and putting the 5 items in a bag. Disturbing experience at the Danbury store today. An associate not only embarrassed herself by her outrageous behavior but also embarrassed the corporation that entrusts her to behave in a respectable, professional manner. I will not name the associate but the store manager is aware and I'll now be taking up the matter with the corporate office. But I will say, as a general statement it would be advisable to have each employee with access to the hunting department (the lodge) undergo a mandatory mental health screening. The behavior I encountered was disturbing. I'd like to note that I have never left a review -good or bad- about any store. There are great employees and sometimes you encounter one who is having a bad day. Everybody has a bad day. This situation was very different from just a bad day and we are left very puzzled as to how she has a job dealing with the public. It is unfortunate but this single employee has changed my view on the chain. I will not shop at that store ever again and I will share my experience in great detail with every family member, friend and parent I know. Will not ever go back here again. Classic bait and switch or just simply incompetent idiotic employees. Can't figure it out. Simply put : the bike I bought from then - less then 3 months ago , the chain broke. After speaking with two employees and a manager they can not tell me or are unable to honor the warranty because they don't know what type or size chain to order - even though they have the same bike on their store floor. And - "their bike guy" is out and that I should drive 45 minutes to their Norwalk store because that the only store that has a full time bike guy. (Can't make this crap up!). read more

We go here all the time. Finding someone to help us today was a frustrating. My son wanted to try a baseball bat. We asked a staff member in the apparel section. She went on the wallow talkie and told us that the guy that can help us with that is selling a basketball hoop system and we'd have to wait. We waited and waited and so on. So we moved on to cleats which were on a display table in the baseball section "while waiting". He saw a pair he liked. We asked another associate for them in his size. She told us "if we have them they are in the shoe section. Sooo, we go back there and can't find them in the section. We were walking in circles trying to find someone. Finally we do and he shows us the display in the middle of the store where they should be, but they don't have my sons size. UGHH! Now we had back to look at bats. Didn't have the size he needed. My mom finally saw an associate and motioned to him that we needed assistance. When he approached her, he said "what?" I went into this store intending to buy a TON of camping gear for my boys and I. We literally needed everything. Dicks is by far the biggest outdoor store in this area so we went there first, and I am still stunned by what we saw. No employees anywhere on the floor to ask for help, signs that say "need help?" but not accompanied by a button or device with which to actually call for help, and worst of all almost nothing is priced! It seems the geniuses who run this place expect you to haul everything you want to buy up to the registers in order to find out how much it all costs. No thanks. Luckily there is an LL Bean in the same building, so they got all of the money we had planned on spending in Dicks. I went with my boyfriend to get ammo for target practice. The Caucasian couple that got a few boxes of ammo just before we did was told by the counter lady "you'll just need to show your permit at the register for purchase". As me and my boyfriend(who is not Caucasian) turned to head to the registers she reiterated about needing to show your permit at the register for purchase but also added "and you're on camera the whole way there". Horrible store The store is just horrible we waited almost an hour to check out and return something nobody was around only two registers were open on each side the manager said everyone else is busy one person was putting away returned items and when asked why isn't he doing register then he started doing it everyone was irate and said they would never visit this location again horrible horrible horriblethey should realize that we have other options and that this is not the only place to get our sporting gear and for their staff to be more helpful and for the manager to be more understanding of our time I would not give this story even one start but it made us never never again read more

I went to Dick's on 4/12/12, Thursday Morning at 9 AM. They open at 9 AM, well, so I thought. That's what the website and sign says. However, I waited by the doors for 5 minutes. I wonder what the Dick's Sporting Goods Executives would think? Customers waiting outside when you're suppose to be open. I had to go around to another entrance where I still had to wait while an employee opened the door. When I walked in all the employees were in a meeting by the registers. Sorry to interupt, I thought you opened at 9 AM? It might be a good idea to have the meeting before you opened that way you can service your customers. As far as prices go, Dick's is overpriced. I found golf pants that were half their price at Macy's and returned the one's I bought at Dick's. read more

I find it hard to give this store even ONE star. Among the most poorly run retail operation I've ever encountered in many moons. I purchased some dumb bells and asked if I could have a box to carry them out the car. Answer?No we don't have boxes. And this was AFTER I'd spent 25 minutes trying to find someone to get a weight bench out for me (and they only had a floor model). Then when I wrote the store manager and regional head, no response. I called the customer service center to cancel my Dick's card, and even she could have cared less why. Haven't been there in almost a year. What a loser store. I don't know HOW they stay in business. Store help no where to be found in this big store. Anyone I saw was in a mad rush to get out of sight. Help is soooo rude! I needed to purchase some sporting equipment for my kids this week and the staff at Dick's basically have no customer service skills. Each team member I encountered was quite disinterested in helping and didn't really seem too concerned with helping us pick the right products for our needs. Sadly, Sports Authority is gone. While their stores were dumpy in appearance, they had better selection, better prices and staff who were always helpful. I was there during the last few weeks and the Sports Authority team put this Dick's location to shame. They were friendly and so helpful. Maybe Dick's should track down the Manager of the former Sports Authority in Danbury and hire them to retrain the team or hire a new team. I will do my best to avoid Dick's and shop online elsewhere as much as possible. read more

Today I went to return a jacket to purchase another jacket. Different brand and size. First thing I did was return a jacket at another registry, cashier was great, polite, welcoming, and had a lot of patience. I had the original receipt, then comes the manager whom didn't even introduce himself, Terry. Okay I returned the jacket, planning on getting a different one. I got the jacket I wanted, went over to a register that had no line, asked if I could get the same coupon I used on the first jacket to purchase this other jacket. The cashier had to inquire about this 15% coupon, first manager came over once again, made a big deal with me purchasing another jacket at a different register. What's the big deal Terry(super rude). As for the other associates and manager (Richy, Jose, and Erik) made my shopping experience a tad bit better. You might as shop online ( at a different store) because everything you would want to look at is locked up. You have to track down an associate every time you want to look at something or have him wait around until your done shopping. I have seen stores with really expensive stuff locked up but not everything. I guess dicks headquarters thinks that all of the re customers are thieves. read more

I have never written a Yelp review before so you could only imagine the dissatisfaction that I feel for this store. TERRIBLE customer service. I brought my compound bow to have a peep sight installed. I was told it would take two days tops. (they didn't seem busy at all, so two days seemed like a while but I agreed and left it there). Two days later, I called the store and was put on hold for 20 minutes with various employees answering and giving me some excuse and putting me back on hold until finally I was hung up on. When a family member went to the store to pick up my bow, a woman working told her that it was not ready, it actually would take up to 6 days, and that the employee who originally helped me had given me wrong information. A few days later, I go to pick it up, and the woman told me that I was supposed to be there for the peep sight installation (this was the first time I was hearing about this), and they installed it based on the original employees description of my height. Anyway, I left feeling uncertain but I was happy to get out of there and go home with my bow.....only to use it and have the peep sight pop right off. I am so frustrated with this store, that I do not even want to go back to have them fix it. I would drive an hour away in order to receive better customer service and care for my bow by KNOWLEDGABLE staff. read more
