General Overview: The entrance was a little difficult to find and I got confused by a sign for a different business (Something about Steel) in the front. The front of the business is the lower half of a single family residence which may lead to additional confusion or hesitation. Even thought the store contained a large quantity of various merchandise, it did not feel cramped or overcrowded. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Prices were on par with similar small business sporting goods stores (ie Not "Big Box" stores). I prefer to support family run businesses anyways so that's a big plus. Will definitely return!
Detailed Review: I attended a "Game Dinner" for a local Fish & Game club as a guest of my current employer. One of the many raffle prizes was a rifle (1 of 5 firearms). As luck would have it, I won the rifle. After providing the necessary information to the club, I was instructed to meet a gentleman named Joe Petrucelli, who I would later find out, is the owner of Tri-County Sproting Goods. After providing my contact information, he asked me a couple of questions, handed me a business card, and informed me of the process to pick up my prize.
The following day, I drove a little under an hour from my home in CT into Patterson, NY. Not too big of a deal considering that I drive about 45 minutes to work everyday anyways. I knew the general area and noticed the large sign by the road. It took me second to figure out where the driveway was as the business is the downstairs of what appears to be a single family residence. I ventured a guess that I was in the right area by some firearms banners and a large lit "OPEN" sign in the window. The driveway is shared with a large commercial or industrial building. There is a sign fore a "Steel" business pointing towards the direction of the house which had me questioning if I was truly in the right place.
I usually try not to assume the quality of a business by first impressions, but in full disclosure I was not optimistic. I am extremely happy to say that I was VERY mistaken. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised at the quantity and quality of goods for sale. There was an absolutely gorgeous woman behind one end of the counter speaking to some customers and Mr. Petrucelli was speaking to two gentleman. As soon as I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the female with a pleasant smile and hello. I informed her of why I was there and filled out some required paperwork to legally take possession of my prize. While waiting for her to call in and confirm my documentation and eligibility to possess firearms, I browsed the impressive plethora of firearms (handguns, rifles, and shotguns) and goods for sale (Archery supplies, holsters, bags, etc.). Pricing was on par with most sporting goods stores. For the size of the business, they have A LOT of merchandise for sale. Unfortunately, due to my limited funds at the time, I was unable to purchase a few of the items that I was interested in. After reviewing the paperwork with me, and having me inspect the rifle, I was asked if I needed any other items (ammunition, cleaning kit, etc.). I declined (regretfully) and said I was all set at the moment. While I'm not entirely certain, my inclination is to believe that this is a family owned business and that the female was Mrs. Petrucelli. Regardless, both her and Mr. Petrucelli were very polite and friendly. Even though it's a bit of a drive, I will definitely return! read more
