I visited this location today and had the worst pawn store experience of my life to date. I went in and was trying to pawn some expensive video equipment of mine and buy back soon in the near future. I was approached by one employee and asked what I was pawning. I put all of the items on the counter and he went through the first item by looking it up online and to assist him in finding the correct model number for this camera, I kindly asked him to make sure the right one was searched. He responded with "Look, man, you're being disrespectful, I don't need you to tell me how to do my job, I do this every day"... The second item came up and he searched it online and gave a price that didn't make sense for this particular item and I asked to see what he found on the website and it was not the correct item. When I told him it was a completely different model, he realized he was wrong and told me "I can't do business with you, get your S**t out of here or I will throw it out"... I simply could not believe how disrespectful this man was to me. I lost pure respect for this stored today. I have been coming here for years and have never had an issue before today. I respect the owner of this store but he was not who I dealt with today nor even saw him. My friend recorded this entire situation on her phone once she saw the disrespect I was receiving so if you would like to see it or have doubts of this low rating and complaint. Worst pawn shop ever! They will basically still your valuable things from you. No customers are ever in there. Only 5 or six guys ready to scam you. They also have no professionalism. First thing I heard when I went in were F bombs. Even if you had something extremely and obviously valuable they will say "well your giant diamond ring is selling for $80 on ebay so I can only give you a fourth of that maybe." You kidding me? Stay away from this place I'm warning you. They were going to give me about $50 dollars for something I paid close to a grand for that was in like new condition. Barely ever used. I ditched these idiots and posted my item to some tag sale pages on facebook. Found a buyer that was happy with the price that I wanted. Listen to this. Myself and the buyer came to a price where we both were happy. Thats why you stay away from scammers like Hat City pawn! Be warned!!! I used to think they were different. That they were not a stereo typical sleazy pawn shop. Then i had something stolen from me. I saw the thief walk in the store. When he left i went in expecting help in retrieving the item that had been stolen. Instead they were extremely unhelpful and instead of telling me what the thief had attempted to sell they refused to give me any information. This greatly hindered my efforts to get a very important, sentimental, and valuable piece of my mothers jewelry back. Being owned by a former police officer and all their marketing pushing their supposed honesty and integrity i never expected this from them. Unfortunately i found out the hard way that all their claims of honesty and integrity are a deceptive marketing ploy. Rather than helping someone who had just been robbed and was desperately trying to track down a special piece of jewelry they decided to protect that criminal. Very disappointed. read more

I have been to other pawns shops over the years, and I honestly have to say that the hat city pawns are the best shops in ct. Not only does hat city pawn offer the best value for your items. They sell all sorts of items at reasonable prices. I have purchased over the years everything from instruments,jewelery, tools , various equipment. Every time I need a tool ect.. as well as gifts I go first to hat city. I Always have been more than satisfied. When I need a loan they are always there with the best prices.i have also have had on occasion needed extra time so I don't lose my items,they are always there for me every time with out fail. B.M. The best Pawn shop in the area/state. Waterbury pawn shop reps can be rude and act as if your using their precious time. Even if you live out of town, take a quick trip to Danbury to Hat City Pawn. Payout is more here. The staff Andy and Bill are friendly and kind. Willing to work with you for a pawn because they undertsand sometimes these items are sentimental.And definitely seem to care about how your doing, being that if your pawning or selling you are probably not in the best situtation.
