First, I will say my family and I have thought pretty highly of Quality Gem for many years as our home (where I grew up) is nearby. We have gone there for different small reasons from time to time. But, now I think of Quality Gem as even more awesome than before. I feel they are a reliable business - my fiancé and I came in to try on wedding bands and one of the rings just connected with me so much (I was taken aback) and got kind of emotional. So I know their product is in style and "right." But, through working with them on my wedding ring I realized just how much expertise they have. It just so happened I wasn't happy with the way my engagement ring (purchased elsewhere) "sat" next to a band- the solitaire was too low and bumped a wide space between it and the wedding band. I didn't want a curved band. This was happening with ALL bands at any store and I had been upset about it. Dennis could tell I wasn't satisfied with my situation but was not pushy at all. Eventually I decided to re-set my engagement ring. Dennis was so educational and patient. He learned my style without judgement and re-set my stone into a new custom ring we decided on together - very similar to my original ring but he solved my technical problem with it being low and hitting a band too much (keeping in line with my aesthetic standards). He would even send me photos in progress or have me come in to be completely sure I was happy with the prongs, etc. and he nailed it. And- it's not as easy as it seems. Before all this resizing didn't go to plan at another jeweler-- and also a solution for the other issue I was having with the spacing didn't go to plan at yet another jeweler (before all this). I highly recommend people go straight to Quality Gem- especially if they had the myriad of problems I had with my ring before I came over. I received a new watch as a gift and wanted to have a watch band fitted to me. They have a watch technician on hand was able to make the adjustments on the spot, while I waited. The staff there were kind and welcoming and were able to eyeball the necessary adjustments with ease while telling the technician what adjustments to make. Very kind people. read more

I have to admit, I am biased about this place. It is owned by a family friend of my fiance's. The first purchase he made there, however, was my engagement ring. The service at the store has been top-notch. We had to bring my ring in to be sized, as the boy went a little large (better than too small!). Most places will ask you to leave it there overnight, or a few days, and come back for it. We had it back in an hour, polished and looking brand-new, fitting perfectly. The jeweler sat with us and went over the pros and cons of the different types of wedding bands, patiently answering all of my many questions. He was so helpful. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5? It's not close enough to our house, so we have to make special trips to stop by. Which we'll be doing again soon, as we need to have the ring sized down again...I have shrinking fingers, I swear. read more

I had an old sapphire ring and I was not sure if it was genuine sapphire. This shop thoroughly inspected it for free. They were honest, professional, and gave me an in depth explanation all about the ring. It was very helpful. Other places wanted to charge me $150 for the same service. This was what I would consider over the top customer service. With all the places out there trying to really over charge you I feel that thos would be a great place to go if you want good service at a fair price. So we went in looking for an engagement ring..I know a lot about jewelry and exactly what I like,dont like and I was especially specific about what we were NOT looking for...that is exactly what the girl showed us. A WAY overpriced setting it was huge and crazy expensive..when I mentioned this was not what I was looking for and that it was too much in every way she showed us others but went back to that setting 2 more times actually telling my fiancee "you want to be proud to give the ring to her dont you?" but then said you know I dont work on commission OMG! They didnt have much to show we quickly exhausted their selection and the settings they had didnt even have CZs in them so you can get an idea of how itd look. Overall, I would never go there for jewelry, sales girl was a complete turn off and the selection was poor for engagement rings. Go to jewelry designs!! read more

Dennis is amazing!!! Was given the go ahead by my boyfriend to pick out my own engagement ring since he had no idea what I would even want. We're super non traditional and have already discussed getting married. I came in to talk stones and pricing and just get ideas from all the local jewelers. After talking with Dennis he acquired some stones for me and we literally put together my dream ring! He sent my stones out and I was told it could be 5-6 weeks for the ring to be made. 3 weeks later I get the call that it was done. I rush in and it is simply stunning. Not only that, the pricing for what I wanted fit perfectly within my budget. I went to Jewelry Designs the day before and was given a quote for almost 1,900$ more on stones that were of less carat, and even worse cut and clarity. I cannot say enough about Dennis and the entire staff at Quality Gem!!! read more

This is a wonderful store, and the service was excellent. Our Mom had passed away, and we needed some professional appraisals. We were very nicely helped by their knowledgable and friendly staff--and the gemologist seemed highly experienced. I'm going to resize the diamond ring I inherited here for sure. I'm definitely going to sell Mom's estate gold here because I think they will give us the best price. They also have a large selection of really tasteful, beautiful stuff--and a pretty store. I was in last Friday and met with Nadine about lowering my engagement ring setting. As always, Nadine was lovely, knowledgeable and SO helpful. I followed Nadine's suggestion and had Quality Gem put sizing beads in both my engagment and wedding bands. The sizing beads are surprisingly comfortable and without spinning, made the rings sit perfectly so I didn't need to change the setting. Nadine was also an absolute sweetheart to my father and helped him choose a diamond stackable band for my mother. I work two blocks away from the Diamond District on 47th Street, but will ALWAYS come up to Quality Gem for any future jewelry purchase or repair. Love them!!! read more
