A gentleman immediately greeted me and began to answer my questions. Even though I was there for the shoes, I wanted to wander around for a bit and see what all they had. It's the kind of store where you want one of everything. Once I was done window shopping, I settled down in the shoe section. Several staff members helped me through the process and did a full "foot evaluation." This is where they measure you and make you walk, so they can tell exactly what brand and size is best for you. Turns out, they didn't have the best shoe for me at this location. Bummer, right?... Not so fast. They quickly called the Homewood location and had them hold a pair of the perfect shoes for me. I didn't leave this location empty handed. I found some great running socks that have been with me (and in my washing machine) ever since.

After hitting nearly every other men's retailer in the Summit and finding nothing but gear with massive logos across the chest, I stopped in at this place. I was immediately greeted by the staff and was asked if I needed help. The place truly looks like a place where people who spend time in the outdoors shop, so I was kind of happy to be there. After looking around for a few minutes I found a rack with some awesome bamboo hoodies from a company called Free Fly. I'd never heard of the company, but I immediately thought it was one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing I've ever felt. It was reasonably priced so I bought it, and wore it pretty much the entire time I was in Birmingham. Perhaps an even higher testament to the quality of the product was this: as soon as I flew home my wife felt the hoodie, and immediately claimed it as her own. I can't wait to come back to Birmingham and visit this place a) because it's a pretty cool store, and b) so I can buy a hoodie of my own.

The women's clothing section consists of about 4 different styles. Nothing good ever goes on sale. The men's selection is a bit better but they are always out of size smalls and usually only have a lot of large sizes. Same issue with shoes. Heavy on on clouds and two choices each of other brands. Always out of common sizes. What usually ends up happening is I see something I like, then because of a better return policy at a competing retailer, or better price and colors I end up purchasing online. Also the sales people are too pushy and don't let me shop in peace. It's very annoying.

Once in that area another worker patiently provided insight into good beginner rods. I was informed that I could test out the rod for up to 60 days and if I didn't like it I could bring it back. Thankfully I used it today and will not be bringing it back because I really like my Ugly Stik! They also provide some free fishing line with purchase of a rod. The store is clean and well lit and the same goes for the parking lot. Check out was a breeze as I didn't have wait long and the checkout clerk was really sweet. I was given a container of Salted Caramel Fudge Bites before I left in exchange for a review! The fudge bites are AMAZING!

And when in line, there was an obvious division between the others and me. I felt like I was not wanted there...like an annoyance or disappointment to be around. Some of the micro aggressions, but eh... it be like that sometimes. Must have been some people's first Asian that they ever met lol

Staff at this location were really nice ... greeted upon entering the store and about half way through checking out what they had, they asked if I needed any help....when I left they thanked me for coming in and said to have a good night. What I like about these guys, is they have clothing that you aren't going to find at Dick's, Academy or Belk type stores. Their focus is on outdoor gear and clothing and the associated brands. One of the few places, I know of, where they have a pretty good selection of North Face and Patagonia and brands like that. In addition to that they have some shoe brands you won't be getting at these other stores as well as some outdoor camping supply type stuff. Really, the only down tick in rating for me is the fact that the prices in here can tend to be a little on the high side. But otherwise, a really quality store with some really cool stuff.

This isn't the first time Emily has delivered truly outstanding customer service. Her professionalism, kindness, and product knowledge continue to impress every time I visit. Well, they do have some Merrell hiking shoes, but only 10 pairs of women's. I counted what was in the shelf. Exactly ten. They don't have any 6 1/2 so I tried in a 6 and a 7. I need a 6 1/2, so I sat on the bench and ordered a pair online from the Merrell store. Frankly, the amount of women's hiking shoes and socks was dismal. Weird thing happened when I was sitting there. An employee, a white male heavy set probably in his 30's was talking to another employee kind of loudly saying "It is always the white middle age women I'm telling you. Always!" I am not sure what that was about, but as a white senior woman, that didn't sit well with me I left the store. My review is not about the comment, but lack of inventory. But the comment bugs me.
