Good selection for outdoorsy people. If you're new to a sport or hobby and want to see what's out there, Mark's has a good selection. They periodically have sales, like their Second Amendment Day Sale, when you can get a really good deal. Otherwise, you may be able to find some better deals elsewhere, but you're paying for convenience, experience, and service. They do have knowledgeable staff, and their gunsmith is top notch *bar none*. We had an issue with a vintage piece, and even the competition said this was the only guy who could do it and do it right. read more

Selection is good, service is terrible, when you have to ask for help so you can spend money, there's a problem. When you have a item on your website, call to verify then drove 50 mins to find out its sold...a day ago there's a problem. Theres a reason friends told me to stay on my side of town and shop. ARCHERY COUNTER: DO NOT BRING YOUR BOW HERE. I have never written a review for anything in my life, but after my last experience at Marks I felt the need to. The archery tech could not have cared less about helping me set my bow up (that I bought used), lined my peep site up wrong, and half ass tied it in (half ass is an understatement). He knowingly set my bow up wrong while making zero suggestions when trying to line up my peep sight and adjust my draw length. Was a total waste of my time. On the other hand the tech a Bass Pro went above and beyond what I asked for and was the best service I've ever had when setting up a bow. He walked me through sighting my bow in and had me dialed in at 20yd within 30 min. read more

I did not get the gentleman's name who assisted us in the gun department, but he was very Informative and knowledgeable about the guns. So much outdoor stuff it can be a little overwhelming! They have an entry way area that is not a part of the main store. It all starts here. This space is overflowing with large gun safes. Once you walk through the doors it's easy to get lost where to go first. They have probably one of the largest gun selections I have seen in any of the stores in the area. New and used. Prices can be a little high, but they run exceptionally good sales and are typically willing to negotiate a little. Plenty of ammo, largest selection of knives you will find anywhere, fishing, camping, archery, clothing. This store is really packed with everything. The staff has always been friendly and helpful! Any of the various counters I went to I was greeted by friendly staff. They are very knowledgeable and patient if you don't have as much experience as they do. If you need anything for a day outing or a week in the wilderness come check this place out. read more

The salesmen at the gun/optics counter in particular are no longer the enjoyable guys I became accustomed to dealing with. I love the shop itself, the merchandise, the variety. However, I feel that the staff are borderline rude. I felt very much ignored, slighted, and condescended to, every time I shopped and left plenty of money there. Customers took pity on me and were nice and helpful. The staff is not quite nasty but impolite and ungracious. I read a couple of top reviews here. Zorriana, I don't think it is racism. I am white. They were just as unpleasant to me. The guy who runs the archery department was very helpful to me and my teenage son who wanted his first compound bow. He directed us to the correct size and recommended a moderately priced option and the necessary accruements. The staff are usually enthusiasts in one area or another and always willing to make recommendations without making fun of your lack of experience. They have a very competent gunsmith too. read more

Service is very hit or miss, and mostly the latter. After standing in front of the desk of the repair guy ("Bo" or "Boo") for several minutes, completely ignored as though I was invisible, while he played with his computer, I walked off. A simple acknowledgement or eye contact or some other semblance of human courtesy would have sufficed. I had a reel needing a simple repair and was going to purchase a bunch of stuff (lures, line, etc.) which were in my hands (which I left on a shelf on my way out). Unfortunately, this sort of thing occurs more often than not at Mark's. Among other examples, a couple months ago I bought a $2500 over and under from one of their competitors after standing for a half hour at their gun counter trying to shop for one while the staff instead focused on answering an interminable number of banal questions from Bubba's shopping for plastic 9 mm (and chuckling and joking). Oh well. Everything at this store can be purchased online (for less cost) or at other nearby stores. I spend a small fortune on sporting goods each year, but Mark's will not get more of my money. read more

We saw Marks advertisement on TV. My husband is recovering from a transplant done at UAB and he really wanted to go since we were in town. I wheeled him in his wheelchair. So that in its self is something intimidating but Hands down the kindest staff and even the customers. Everyone was so helpful as we navigated around. We purchased new binoculars (very nice selection) and hands down amazing hunting gloves... and a taser for myself and 2 holsters for our hand guns. We will be back!! read more

For a sporting good store with almost no online shopping their customer service over the phone is absolutely amazing! I live in California yet I purchase quite a bit from these guys, Particularly through Caleb. Caleb's willingness to take the time to service orders over the phone is ridiculous and quite frankly unheard of in today's society. At least here in Cali. This place is immaculate inside and out. They have all the good down home Southern vibes going from the wooden cabin exterior, to the countless outdoor sports equipment, goods, and people inside. Even if you're only looking for a cultural experience this place would be fun to visit and walk around in on a Saturday when the place is packed. Soak up the South, and stop by. Apparently Mark has passed away, but there are still a ton of quality individuals that call this business home. I have come through the store of several occasions. New to the area so I've been looking for my "go to" outdoor store. My experiences have been hit or miss. Some good, some not so good. I occasionally stop in on lunch breaks to check out the gun inventory and gun safes. I was fully prepared to purchase gun safe, only to be informed the free delivery I was promised was no longer available and the "flexibility" on price didn't make up the difference. So no go on the safe. You certainly are not going to find any stellar deals here, and on most items I feel they carry a premium price tag. I have purchased a few items on clearance and a moderately difficult to find gun in stock at most any dealer. I feel like I'm not in some secret club it often feels like one needs to be in to get some of the staff to communicate with you, or at least to do so without a slight bit of condescending attitude. There are a few individuals I can consistently have a pleasant interaction with, but it is certainly not a culture of the staff, to go out of their way to be friendly to all patrons. All in all, they have a good selection and cover all the outdoor needs. But in my opinion lacks a consistent culture of customer service among all their staff. Mostly disappointing. read more

I guess I am fortunate. I live pretty close to some really great outdoors/hunting shops and Marks is one of the best I have ever been in. There are times you can be overwhelmed just by the sheer numbers of people wandering around inside and the prices are a little higher than at other places but the quality of the merchandise is typically better than many of the others. I have been in here and felt like I was spinning my tires and wasting my time for being in there before but overall the vast majority of the staff have been with the store for a while and they understand customer service. I can honestly say I have seen it all from sales guys who are pushy to the ones that will not speak; they generally don't last here; but overall I have been impressed with them as a supplier of many of the things I own for my hunting needs. read more

I've come to Marks for years. It's been around since the 80s. That's way back in the 1900s kiddos. Mark was always a really nice guy. He actually hosted in store a free hunters certification course at his store. The format now is much more open and inviting vs inventory stacked upon inventory pre- remodel (several years ago) when I frequented the store. I'm glad to see the store in such good condition and so busy. Everyone we saw spoke to us. Everyone offered to help or show something. Mark's has a large inventory but it's like going to a small town bait shop/ hunting store. Guys will tell you what bait to use where. They offer first hand expertise on weapons, ammo and apparel. Everyone is friendly and no one is shamed for inexperience or asking questions. That's what I always liked about Mark's. He cultivated an environment which allowed all people in all stages of development as a hunter or fisherman to come in feel welcome and get advise. I was comfortable with what I was being told and never made to feel weird for asking what may have been a rudimentary question. I'm a fan. Sign up for mailers. They run some pretty good sales. I have purchased from Mark's in the past. I will no longer step foot in the door. They refuse to budge off the price when it is being sold much cheaper within a 10 minute drive. This is also for a long time customer. They do not seem to know who is their loyal customer anyone. I went to the competitor across town and saved over $100. The store is not what it used to be. I recommend visiting the competitors. Mark's days are probably numbered under this management. I have informed all my friends and colleagues. Mark's lost a sale over $25 and allowed me to discover the competition is eager to work with loyal customers. The competition earned 10s of thousands in sales for Mark's $25 refusal. I would've been happy and bought from them. I'm glad I discovered the competition was more ready to sell. Fire that employee immediately, but he said he asked the boss! read more
