Excellent Store, great knife selection. Have to visit it every time I go to Birmingham, AL. Great prices as well. read more

If you are into all things outdoor sporting related, this is your haven! I decided to check out this store but ultimately I was only here to grab some crawfish from a food truck that was on site. This store isn't massively huge but it's packed with a lot of inventory!!' I was able to browse a bit and even inquire on a specific sunglass style - they didn't carry the brand but they told me where I could search for them at. The staff that answered my questions were friendly and of course helpful. I can't speak on their prices but I do recommend checking them out if you are into outdoor sporting activities. Oh and they carry all types of firearms. read more

I've been shopping there since Mark and his dad opened it 40 plus years ago. I have bought a ton of firearms and accessories there, but this past weekend might have ended it for me. I took my grandson, who was visiting too look around and do some window shopping. One guy in the whole store spoke, asking if he could help. Went to the gun counter, got a few obligatory grunts from one of the employees, we looked for about 5 minutes and left. As we got in my truck, my grandson out of the blue asked "that guy was an a$$hole", why do you shop here, again? read more

After new management the employees (gun/suppressor) always treat you right the man at the knife counter has always been helpful even before. But since new management I never have an issue being waited on at the gun counter the optics no longer try and convince me my scope needs to be over a grand for shooting a deer in Alabama. The service counter was time efficient with servicing a otf bench made that a crazy ex super glued shut. They always have a worth your dollar deal sale going. It is a night and day difference under the new management read more

The new management of this store is terrible. I was gifted two $100 gift cards by a family member to Marks Outdoors, but because I live out of state I wasn't able to use them until I returned home to Birmingham. In the time between receiving them and having a chance to use them the business had changed hands. When I brought in the gift cards worth a total of $200 they had expired and the new ownership refused to honor them, agreeing that the old management would have but saying they had no system to verify the authenticity of the certificates. Basically, tough luck but we're not going to stand behind these so your family member just threw away $200. What a disappointment. My family has enjoyed this store for over 4 decades. Grandfather, dad, brother--we all loved this store. But I don't plan to spend a penny again under this new management. read more

Great selection in fishing and hunting. Their service was okay. Never was approached by a salesperson.

unless you are one of there buddies good luck with this place it's awful went in for a new fishing reel and they let there buddy take all they had ordered read more

Good selection for outdoorsy people. If you're new to a sport or hobby and want to see what's out there, Mark's has a good selection. They periodically have sales, like their Second Amendment Day Sale, when you can get a really good deal. Otherwise, you may be able to find some better deals elsewhere, but you're paying for convenience, experience, and service. They do have knowledgeable staff, and their gunsmith is top notch *bar none*. We had an issue with a vintage piece, and even the competition said this was the only guy who could do it and do it right. read more

Mark's Outdoor Sports - Giveaway at the door for The Second Amendment Day Sale even if you were there for fishing gear. - Outdoor Gear Near Me - Vestavia Hills, Alabama

Great selection, my favorite sporting goods store in America. Seriously. Great selection of match 22 ammo. Fly fishing, shooting, knives....you name it! Wish I lived closer to Birmingham read more

custom service is great, I have purchased a knife with Randy very nice gentleman he called me back 3 times to make sure the order was placed correctly over the phone. I had a question to ask and was told Mark will call me back. I have never had such a nice experience, very nice people. I would definitely be buying more stuff on line since I live in California. just wanted to mention last thing, they have in stock items very rare that other stores don't have. check it out you wont be disappointed .! read more

Awesome!! The nicest people ever!! Nice clean store!! Thanks for the phone charger and going out of your way to help me. Love my $5 hats too

Selection is good, service is terrible, when you have to ask for help so you can spend money, there's a problem. When you have a item on your website, call to verify then drove 50 mins to find out its sold...a day ago there's a problem. Theres a reason friends told me to stay on my side of town and shop. Guess if your not wearing slacks. Shirt and tie your not deemed worthy to shop there. When a guy in overalls comes in, don't always assume they are broke. read more

ARCHERY COUNTER: DO NOT BRING YOUR BOW HERE. I have never written a review for anything in my life, but after my last experience at Marks I felt the need to. The archery tech could not have cared less about helping me set my bow up (that I bought used), lined my peep site up wrong, and half ass tied it in (half ass is an understatement). He knowingly set my bow up wrong while making zero suggestions when trying to line up my peep sight and adjust my draw length. Was a total waste of my time. On the other hand the tech a Bass Pro went above and beyond what I asked for and was the best service I've ever had when setting up a bow. He walked me through sighting my bow in and had me dialed in at 20yd within 30 min. read more

A store FULL of sporting goods. The pictures do not do justice on how incredibly full this store is. I did not get the gentleman's name who assisted us in the gun department, but he was very Informative and knowledgeable about the guns. I felt like these folks treated us so well and made sure we were certain in the products we were looking for. Very recommended!!!! read more

Service and hospitality is always amazing, really my bar I compare other places to. I have walked in with minor malfunctions in my pistols and they are able to fix it within minutes and didn't charge me a thing. Great ammo prices too read more

The men working in the gun department are rude, arrogant and unprofessional. Will never purchase a gun from them again!

Have been using Marks Outdoors since 1996.....great selection of new and used firearms.....friendly staff eager to help.....it can be busy at times...... but worth the wait. I hunt all over for everything......if you want to hunt it, they can help you get it! read more

Have lots of selection for fishing needs. Go there all the time and they have a great crew there and can always recommend different baits and help you find whatever you need. They are very reasonable on their prices when they have sales which is the best time to buy your gear. Would recommend to every person who Ioves the outdoors! read more

So much outdoor stuff it can be a little overwhelming! They have an entry way area that is not a part of the main store. It all starts here. This space is overflowing with large gun safes. Once you walk through the doors it's easy to get lost where to go first. They have probably one of the largest gun selections I have seen in any of the stores in the area. New and used. Prices can be a little high, but they run exceptionally good sales and are typically willing to negotiate a little. Plenty of ammo, largest selection of knives you will find anywhere, fishing, camping, archery, clothing. This store is really packed with everything. The staff has always been friendly and helpful! Any of the various counters I went to I was greeted by friendly staff. They are very knowledgeable and patient if you don't have as much experience as they do. If you need anything for a day outing or a week in the wilderness come check this place out. read more

Posting just to counter "Zorianna." Marks rocks. Prices are a bit high but it's local and the level of personal assistance and the friendly attitude of the staff TOWARD ALL is worth the visit. Give them your Business. read more

Quit crying about "racism". The only color this store respects is GREEN. Their selection is very good. The store is clean and well organized the salespeople are helpfully as long as you have the GREEN. Their prices are ridiculously high. Go to the store down 65 SO under the Mark's billboard. read more

The staff is very kind and knowledgeable, and helped me find exactly what I needed!! Very professional

After being a loyal Mark's customers for over 12 years today was probably the last time I'll step foot in there. The salesmen at the gun/optics counter in particular are no longer the enjoyable guys I became accustomed to dealing with. After a few bad experiences I have left there each time feeling like the salesman I dealt with was rude and lacked knowledge about what I was looking at. read more

It's a good thing I don't live in Birmingham anymore, or I'd be broke. This place is an institution for a reason. It's the only place I can get the fishing gear in person that I usually have to buy online. read more

I have had good and bad experiences with Marks in the past today a sales person I believe name Scott was not pleasurable to deal with at all . If the item was not already paid for I would have definitely have found a different vendor. Simmons Sporting Goods has always been good. read more

I love the shop itself, the merchandise, the variety. However, I feel that the staff are borderline rude. I felt very much ignored, slighted, and condescended to, every time I shopped and left plenty of money there. Customers took pity on me and were nice and helpful. The staff is not quite nasty but impolite and ungracious. I read a couple of top reviews here. Zorriana, I don't think it is racism. I am white. They were just as unpleasant to me. It is, like Eric E. noted, simply a culture. A not so nice internal culture. read more

The guy who runs the archery department was very helpful to me and my teenage son who wanted his first compound bow. He directed us to the correct size and recommended a moderately priced option and the necessary accruements. The staff are usually enthusiasts in one area or another and always willing to make recommendations without making fun of your lack of experience. They have a very competent gunsmith too. read more

Service is very hit or miss, and mostly the latter. After standing in front of the desk of the repair guy ("Bo" or "Boo") for several minutes, completely ignored as though I was invisible, while he played with his computer, I walked off. A simple acknowledgement or eye contact or some other semblance of human courtesy would have sufficed. I had a reel needing a simple repair and was going to purchase a bunch of stuff (lures, line, etc.) which were in my hands (which I left on a shelf on my way out). Unfortunately, this sort of thing occurs more often than not at Mark's. Among other examples, a couple months ago I bought a $2500 over and under from one of their competitors after standing for a half hour at their gun counter trying to shop for one while the staff instead focused on answering an interminable number of banal questions from Bubba's shopping for plastic 9 mm (and chuckling and joking). Oh well. Everything at this store can be purchased online (for less cost) or at other nearby stores. I spend a small fortune on sporting goods each year, but Mark's will not get more of my money. read more

This was my first trip here after hearing about it for years. When i walked in everyone was very friendly. I saw many great brands and super selections of new and used firearms. Amazing selection of safes and i also noticed they were a high end axe dealer. Was very impressed with there store. Cant wait to go back. read more

We saw Marks advertisement on TV. My husband is recovering from a transplant done at UAB and he really wanted to go since we were in town. I wheeled him in his wheelchair. So that in its self is something intimidating but Hands down the kindest staff and even the customers. Everyone was so helpful as we navigated around. We purchased new binoculars (very nice selection) and hands down amazing hunting gloves... and a taser for myself and 2 holsters for our hand guns. We will be back!! read more

This place is immaculate inside and out. They have all the good down home Southern vibes going from the wooden cabin exterior, to the countless outdoor sports equipment, goods, and people inside. Even if you're only looking for a cultural experience this place would be fun to visit and walk around in on a Saturday when the place is packed. Soak up the South, and stop by. Apparently Mark has passed away, but there are still a ton of quality individuals that call this business home. It's a fun experience, and it should meet just about any outdoor sport need you might have. Very cool place. read more

I just moved to the area and stopped by the store after hearing great things about it. I was not disappointed. It was a busy Saturday but the staff were very helpful and friendly. They spoke to me as of though they had known me for years and welcomed me to the area. The prices were great on the items I was looking for. They offered me the item I was looking for $500 less than I could find it on the internet. Will definitely be recommending them to all my friends. read more

Great selection extremely overpriced best knive selection i have ever seen but i am telling u now u better have ur money right when u walk in tht store cause its hard to leave with out buying something.the knive tht mark actually makes by hand they are very pretty read more

For a sporting good store with almost no online shopping their customer service over the phone is absolutely amazing! I live in California yet I purchase quite a bit from these guys, Particularly through Caleb. Caleb's willingness to take the time to service orders over the phone is ridiculous and quite frankly unheard of in today's society. At least here in Cali. I truly appreciate these guys and encourage all to give them the opportunity to fulfill all your sporting good needs. It's worth mentioning that the knife selection is outstanding as well. read more

I have come through the store of several occasions. New to the area so I've been looking for my "go to" outdoor store. My experiences have been hit or miss. Some good, some not so good. I occasionally stop in on lunch breaks to check out the gun inventory and gun safes. I was fully prepared to purchase gun safe, only to be informed the free delivery I was promised was no longer available and the "flexibility" on price didn't make up the difference. So no go on the safe. You certainly are not going to find any stellar deals here, and on most items I feel they carry a premium price tag. I have purchased a few items on clearance and a moderately difficult to find gun in stock at most any dealer. I feel like I'm not in some secret club it often feels like one needs to be in to get some of the staff to communicate with you, or at least to do so without a slight bit of condescending attitude. There are a few individuals I can consistently have a pleasant interaction with, but it is certainly not a culture of the staff, to go out of their way to be friendly to all patrons. All in all, they have a good selection and cover all the outdoor needs. But in my opinion lacks a consistent culture of customer service among all their staff. Mostly disappointing. read more

I guess I am fortunate. I live pretty close to some really great outdoors/hunting shops and Marks is one of the best I have ever been in. There are times you can be overwhelmed just by the sheer numbers of people wandering around inside and the prices are a little higher than at other places but the quality of the merchandise is typically better than many of the others. I have been in here and felt like I was spinning my tires and wasting my time for being in there before but overall the vast majority of the staff have been with the store for a while and they understand customer service. I can honestly say I have seen it all from sales guys who are pushy to the ones that will not speak; they generally don't last here; but overall I have been impressed with them as a supplier of many of the things I own for my hunting needs. read more

I've come to Marks for years. It's been around since the 80s. That's way back in the 1900s kiddos. Mark was always a really nice guy. He actually hosted in store a free hunters certification course at his store. The format now is much more open and inviting vs inventory stacked upon inventory pre- remodel (several years ago) when I frequented the store. I'm glad to see the store in such good condition and so busy. Everyone we saw spoke to us. Everyone offered to help or show something. Mark's has a large inventory but it's like going to a small town bait shop/ hunting store. Guys will tell you what bait to use where. They offer first hand expertise on weapons, ammo and apparel. Everyone is friendly and no one is shamed for inexperience or asking questions. That's what I always liked about Mark's. He cultivated an environment which allowed all people in all stages of development as a hunter or fisherman to come in feel welcome and get advise. I was comfortable with what I was being told and never made to feel weird for asking what may have been a rudimentary question. I'm a fan. Sign up for mailers. They run some pretty good sales. My coworker that had never been until today now sees what all the fuss is about surrounding this store. read more

Nice selection, good prices on guns, seem high on most other stuff. Seem to make you feel like they are busy serving members of a club which you do not belong. I felt like this and then one of my co-workers validated my feeling when said the same thing without me suggesting that it was how I felt. Short almost rude, dismissive answers to my questions. I guess that they already have all of the customers that they need. read more
