If you're looking for a range in Alabama, I'd recommend going somewhere else. They still require a CCW permit to join, even though Alabama went full constitutional carry back in 2023. The state law clearly says no permit is needed to carry concealed anymore, but this place is sticking to the old requirement just to be extra gate keepey about 2A. It's their private property, so they can set their own rules I understand that. But the part that really stands out is how they deny ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE members if they don't have a CCW. Let get real these are the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect and defend the Constitution, including the Second Amendment. And yet they're being told they need a government issued permission slip just to shoot at this range BWAHAHAHA. That feels completely backwards and disrespectful to those who serve. Most folks aren't going to go through the extra steps classes, fees, paperwork, fingerprints, photos, and waiting periods when the state already says you're good to go without any of it. If you want a background check just run every member though any of the 1000 background check sites. It ends up just being straight gatekeeping, limiting access to only those who already got the government's approval. CCW permits have ALWAYS been unconstitutional because the Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms without needing government permission slips it's a fundamental right, not a privilege granted by the state. Big miss for this range It's disappointing to see a place that's supposed to be pro-gun still doing this in 2026 Alabama, especially when it affects active duty members who just want to go enjoy their rights. If you're looking for a no-hassle spot with better vibes, try the Talladega range, Sentinals, or Hoover Tactical if you need a rifle range and if you are lucky just shoot at a friend's place if you know anyone with land no CCW anti 2a Drama. My name is Steve Ross. I've been a member of this range for something like15 years. There's not another range within 50 miles that can hold a candle to it, or compare with the Jon's management team, Lee and Dave. Safety is their first and most important requirement, and if you intend to shoot there you're required to take the safety course. You may think you don't need it but a refresher is always in order. An attitude such as I've noted in a couple of posts here doesn't recommend you no matter how experienced you may think you are. All the years I've been a member at FOP Pleasant Grove I've never had a bad experience with any of the staff. My grandson learned to shoot there because I trusted the quality and safety of his instructors, The only times that left a sour note -- and they've been very, very few through the years -- it's been because some member or visitor thought the rules were for someone else. Most unfriendly people I have ever met. Went there with my daughter to let her shoot her new 22 rifle (she is only 12) and was very excited. Told us the visitors range was not available because of a Sewage problem. Mind you there were only 2 people on the whole range. Asked like theres not way we can use any of the other 5 ranges that have no people on. I said ok whats it cost to be a member $$$$ is NO issue for me. Said you can't sign up here you have to do online I said ok Ill go up the hill get on the internet and join. They were like you can't do that you have to come to a safety class and they are Mon-Fri in the mornings. WOW it was like are you guys really looking for members. 66yrs old ex Military NO customer service skills. This place has gone downhill. Subterranean now. I don't know where to begin. When I was a member they changed the rules three times in two years. Then once covid hit they made people make reservations. I showed up to an empty range but was told I couldn't reserve more than an hour (oh yeah you pay by the HOUR now) because of a couple of big groups coming. Needless to say the groups never showed up and my friend was turned away over the phone and didn't even come out. I've heard from a good source they've lost HUNDREDS of members. Now I know why. They never did a good job of taking care of me when I was a member and now they do an even worse job. read more

Excellent outdoor shooting range. Liked it so much we became members. Open to the public with one range for public. Multiple shooting ranges for members. Safety is their number one priority. They won't tolerate any nonsense. To become members we watched a twenty minute video. Lots of perks for members. You can bring a guest for cheap and free on Mondays. On Tuesdays ammo is reduced pricing. Wednesdays ladies shoot for free even for non members. Public range goes by a light system. Green you can shoot for twenty minutes followed by ten minutes of red which means no shooting, time to check targets, take a break, etc. Member ranges operate by voice, "going hot", "down range", etc. Office sells ammo, ear phones, glasses, targets, drinks, and snacks. Surprisingly, prices were reasonable. Metal targets on the range are fun to shoot. I'd rather shoot those than the paper ones and the metal ones are free. Now to just work on my aim : /. FOP Range - Long distance targets - Gun/Rifle Ranges Near Me - Pleasant Grove, Alabama

This was my second trip out to FOP. Right out of the gate, as we were driving in, I could see that they had made modifications to the range since my previous visit (maybe 18 months ago). The section to the right as you first drive in was pretty much open space with metal targets against the hillside. This has now been equipped with it's own little shooting pavilion that has metal targets at different distances. Once we parked we made our way to the office....this is required...you have to check in before you go to any of the ranges or begin shooting. We got there at just the right time, just behind us was a pretty large group. But, they processed us all through quickly. Pretty much standard info is needed, again, all related to safety. Personal info along with emergency contact type stuff. Once you are signed in you are ready to go! By the way they have a pretty good supply of shooting accessories in case you have forgotten anything. Or if you need extra ammo they have you covered as well. Good selection of targets available too! They have some that are bright as well as dark...great for different levels of light and/or your personal preference. We started up top at the steel range. About 10 shooting slots available and only two were occupied when we got there. We had a great time shooting a variety of guns and teaching a first timer how to properly shoot. Range officers come by regularly to ensure that everyone is following proper safety procedures. We then moved on to the rifle range. First time into this space. Set up is similar to all the other areas giving it the same look and feel....just set up for distance shooting. Met some cool people down at this spot and had a blast shooting an AR for the first time. Memberships are a reasonable price and guests get discounted access when they are with members. I am currently active duty military from out of town visiting my family members. Today I came to visit the range with my family and was told I could not shoot at range because I didn't have concealed carry permit. I wanted to shoot my long barrel rifles in which a federal law does not require you to have a conceal carry permit. I have been in multiple states at different ranges and I have never heard of such a thing. read more

I've never been to another gun range, but this one seems pretty nice. On the hand gun ranges they have metal discs you can shoot for if you like the satisfaction of watching them fall (which I definitely do). They also have boards you can put paper targets on. If you forget your target, the office has several different types for purchase along with a few beverages and chip options. One of the things I don't like about this range is how close the different shooting sections are. It can get quite loud and stay that way. Also, it can be crowded. If you're going during peak shooting times (whenever that is), you should get there shortly after they open. Oh, and guests are free on Mondays! read more

Ok first will preface this place is a little out of the way... So last year we came to F.O.P for the first time, they have a public pistol and riffle range that anyone can shoot after they sign the waiver and pay 20 bucks..... so we did that last year.... the family membership is 225.00 per year for your family to shoot the member only ranges... we had waited almost a year to come back because it is a bit out of the way and we have been busy. We took our neighbors this time and actually went on the members only portions of the range... the steel target range was fun and everything hing worked well... then we went to the riffle range to fire off a hundred or so 5.56 rounds thru the AR... folks in this range are more serious about their firearms as the folks that were here were competition shooters and gun builders. Still great group of folks... I will say we need to use our membership more often and will renew for sure. As there are limited amount of memberships sold to prevent over crowding... All in all come out and have some fun, they also rent guns, sell ammo and drinks, t shirts and other gun related stuff... Keep up the good work F.O.P!! read more

This is a really good private/public range. If you are not a member you can still go to 1 paper target range. That range has pistol distances as well as rifle. If you are a member you have 3 other spots to go. A really great pistol range which knock down metal targets. A rifle range. And a semi indoor range. Ammo prices are really good considering they kind of have you cornered. I love going here and always look forward to going back. read more

Alright,so I called about 20 minutes before I left the house to check and see what I needed to bring(identification,pistol permit ect) everything went alright on the phone but I got there to then be told they were booked out for the day. Nothing mentioned over the phone about reservations,anything like that. I'm sure you could imagine I wasn't happy after driving the distance out there to just be told I'm shit out of luck. It is now more like a country club for people with plenty of money. I was a member for a long time and loved the range, But then they decided to use the covid as an excuse to jack up prices so that the annual membership was not enough $$ for them now you ALSO had to reserve a space and pay by the hour - and that hour was not actual shooting time, no no, that hour included your setup and cleanup time. So they went from being a friendly, shooter oriented range, to an elitist place with no use for those of us living on social security or pensions. read more

Great facility that is well maintained. I loved the timing lights on the range so there is no confusion on when it is clear down range. The price for a visitor to shoot is 20 dollars which is high but what's the alternative to such a nice facility. The staff is friendly and helpful, I would consider an annual membership if you are into shooting sports that is where your best value is at. read more

My husband and I recently discovered this range, and we love it. Great people who work and shoot there. I love shooting outdoors, and this place provides just that. The ONLY reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it is a little out of the way for us, BUT it is so worth it. read more

Pleasant Grove FOP is one of the friendliest places to shoot guns. Their number one priority is safety. At no point is the range not safe. With full time range officers and staff the ranges are safe. They have multiple shooting stages. Some for pistol. Some for rifles and shotguns. They also have a range that is perfect for practical shooting stages. read more

It's a great range, the only issue being a weird "21 and over" rule. I'd give it a 5/5 if they changed that.

Great range!! Professional, helpful & fun. My son and I were visiting and the fine people here rented us a gun (free with 2 paid boxes of ammo) and loaned us safety equipment. Normally, they will sell, but not loan you ear & eye protection. Bring your own or be prepared to buy. We loved our time there. read more
