I had three golf gifts that I needed to return to Dick's. I'd keep them, but they're all the wrong sizes. I was greeted as I came into the store. I didn't have time to shop today, was just here to return my gifts. No line at checkout and a smiling friendly Gracie greeted me. I did have a receipt, but all I really cared about was getting a store credit and coming back when I had more time to shop. Gracie was professional and did the return with no problems. I just love this store! The sporting goods store is big with a variety of brands. I come here for most of my Patagonia stuff. The service is always kind and fast. I think they have good value on certain brands and occasionally some rewards if you are a member to the free program. read more

Staff is super weird. I was buying a pair of hokas which were displays and so I asked the cashier, Andrea, for a discount. She was hesitant but said she could give me 5%. I then wanted to scan a coupon for $20 off of any purchase over $100. She didn't even want to scan it and said hokas are price protected. I told her to scan it anyways and surprise surprise, it went through. I asked her to also apply the 5% she promised which she didn't do. If Dick's can't bother to put price tags on their merchandise (I'm talking dumbells in the fitness department), then I can't be bothered to purchase any. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER SEEN I rarely write reviews but I witnessed the absolute most degrading customer service while in line during my lunch break today, that I was compelled to write a review. I will never return to this store or shop at any Dick's sporting goods EVER again if these are the people you hire. A woman was returning a shirt and the cashier yelled for all of us to hear in line that this woman had worn the shirt, in order to shame her. But it turns out, the woman had not worn it but just tried it on, then a manager was called and said she could return it. There was no apology to the woman. When it was my turn in line I wasn't greeted with a friendly smile or any greeting at all, just silence until it was time to announce how much I owed. I don't know where you hire employees or what training you do, but I have had nothing but terrible service from this location. Watching the cashier shake a woman for absolutely nothing was my last straw. Do NOT shop here. Shop online and stop giving your money to Dick's. It's Christmas time so they have a huge selection of everything. I normally shop on line but decided to go in today because I wanted to try a certain shoe on so I get the correct size. I noticed they are higher on certain shoes than the actual website (Nike, adidas, hoka). They were out of some of the shoes I wanted to try on in the store but available if I ordered on line, not what I wanted. I went to Dick's Sporting Goods in Bakersfield CA on 6/16 to buy a new set of golf clubs. Things didn't go well from the very start. I hung around the golf department for 10 minutes or so, but no one was there to help me. Then I tried to look at the clubs myself, but every club in the whole section was zip-tied to the rack which made it impossible to handle anything. Then I found a young man employee and asked if he could help me. He tried to find the golf manager, but she was on a lunch break so I left and will buy my clubs somewhere where they actually want to sell clubs. What a joke this store is. I've been quite frustrated with their communication practices lately. They never pick up their phones! I had a conversation with one of the managers earlier today, and when I brought this up, he explained that they simply don't have the time to answer calls and don't prioritize phone communication. He mentioned that this has become the norm for their location and that it's unlikely to change anytime soon. This lack of responsiveness has certainly made things more challenging when someone is trying to get simple questions answered without going into the store. read more

One of my favorite things about our culture is the simple pleasantries exchanged by strangers that don't seem to happen as much elsewhere as it does in the U.S.. I'm not sure if the employees here appreciate that. I consider greeting someone even with a little "hello" the minimum amount of respect one can give. It's a bit of a slap in the face, however, to enter a store and be the one to greet employees only to be responded to with the good ol' eye-roll and silence. This happened with a few other employees, too. So, the rudeness seems to be an epidemic here. Come on now! Richard Stack would be ashamed, guys. Recently went into Dicks to grab some last minute sporting goods. I don't go into this store often because in the past, I've had less than great customer service here. Today, I received the same less than great service again. They get most of their business by default, they are one of only 2 sporting good stores here in town. The store was pretty busy for a rainy day, so I'll give them that. The signs they have up showing their sales are not very clear. One sign above a large display of different sporting goods. I wasn't sure which item was on sale so I grabbed one of each (2 total) so I would not have to go back to get the correct one. The sales associate honored the sale price but was less than thrilled about it. I said thank you and I got no response. She gave me my receipt and walked away from her register. No "thank you", "have a good day", nothing!! I'm tired of customer service being so rude! How hard is it to say thank you to your customers!!!?? I keep finding unhappy locations for this chain. I was looking for a jacket that would be useful for warmth but also good in Death Valley, and I thought to find the camouflage gear. I wasn't finding anything and I was about to ask one employee walking in my direction. He noticed me and looked away. Within minutes, I found the gear and he returned with two other men who seemed to be discussing the store. They didn't seem happy that I was there. I don't have to spend my money at stores where employees, managers, district managers refuse to help. He helped him pick out an appropriate exercise bike, and even helped him find a couple of pairs of cargo shorts in the right size. This place is poorly run. The manager seems like she didn't know how to handle a simple increase in customers. As I walked around the store I found 4 people not doing anything and her response is was that she had one new hire who didn't know how to run a register. I then explained the other people that I saw standing around doing nothing to which she looked at me like I had some sort of foreign object growing out of my head. This place is just terrible and has gone start to crap. If it wasn't the only place in town I would never go here again. They don't even deserve one star. I come here rarely, but after Sports Chalet closing there's not a lot of options to buy outdoor/hiking/backpacking clothing and equipment. This time I came to buy some Free Weight bumper plates. After looking through the mess the regular olympic plates, they didn't have any of the common sized weights, ZERO bumper weights unless you buy some outrageously priced set, which I don't need. I waited for a full 20 minutes to try and get some customer service while I was here. I glimpsed several employees, but they'd detour around the fitness area, the store has maybe 20 shoppers, I finally said screw it, I'll find someplace else. The customer Service here is non-existent they intentionally avoid customers. I was going to talk to someone at the front counter, but when I came up the individual suddenly picked up one of the phones and pretended to be busy. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. Great selection for a sports store but how could they not since they are a chain store, typically run by the usual suspects as in Nike, Addidas, Under Armor and Reebok. I like this place because its close but I dont like the basics they provide where everything is $50+ when you can get it cheaper online. This store is huge! Great selection of work out stuff. Change room was large and roomy too so you are not crammed in there with your selections. Service was ok - some would say it is indifferent but I was able to ask questions when need be. I found a cool Schwinn exercise bike here as well - I have been in the market for one so will keep this place in mind for that. Going in to take a look cost me $200 for a few pieces of work out wear even though some were on 'clearance'. Not cheap. Quality can be found here though so I guess you get what you pay for. Who knew Carrie Underwood had her own line of gym wear!? Will be back as I find good yoga/hiking pants and tops hard to find. read more

Literally robbed me for a background check. Went in to purchase a BERETTA a300 outlander. Before purchasing they told me it was ok to use my hunting license as proof of address since I just moved to Bakersfield and my DL has my previous address. After paying and waiting for my background check to come back 14 days later. I called and asked if I was clear to pick it up. They said yes background check came back and you can pick it up anytime. Went to pick it up. First they messed up my current address and than they say we can't give it to you until I change my address to the current one. Straight BS. Literally makes no sense at all. They refunded me for the gun but not the background check. Plus after I made the purchase I specifically asked for the black one. After all the paper work and background check and everything price was $150 over. I ask why the dude says oh I thought you wanted the camouflage color. Never spending money here again!!! Went here to buy running shoes. They had a pair that I wanted, but the one box that listed my size had the wrong size shoe in the box. (The size of the shoe was not as listed on the box.) So I tried to find an employee to talk to, but there was no one. No sales people on the floor. Left the store and ordered the shoes through the manufacturer's web site. I went in to the Bakersfield, California store today at approximately 8:15pm. I typically buy all my sporting needs from Dicks due to decent prices and customer service (depending on who you deal with). I can say that today, I DID NOT feel welcome...Not from the associate that attended me at first at least. Customer service and a positive attitude from the so called "manager" (I believe her name is Yesenia) was non existent. The purpose of tonight's visit was to purchase a few boxes of 12 Gauge shotgun shells for me to use tomorrow (Saturday) at a sporting clays range with some of my friends. I noticed that there was a Dick's associate assisting an older couple with fishing supplies. I figured he would come over to assist me since I was standing there for a few minutes waiting to be helped. When no one came to help, I pushed the help button for assistance. The associate came and ask what I needed. I told him I was trying to buy 12 Gauge shotgun shells. The associate then proceeded to tell me that they do not sell ammunition after 7:00pm per company policy. I find this information to be very different from MANY previous experiences I've had where I have been attended for this same thing well after 7:00pm (because my wife works next door and she's out at 8:30, so I go and shop at dicks before she's out). I asked to speak to the manager to get accurate information. When the manager arrived (Yesenia), she told me that she stops selling after 8:00pm. Her reasoning for an 8:00pm cutoff was that she needed to be on the floor because they were "busy". I would like to mention that the store was 30 min from closing, there was at least 6 employees that I counted who seemed more than capable of handling their jobs for about 10 minutes while she assisted me with the background check and sale. The store had approximately 13-18 people (not busy).You see the inconsistency here? What's company policy? Who is lying out of their ass? I'm not typically one to bring up race or some sort of discrimination, but in this case I had this very strong feeling of being denied service for ammunition based on my my appearance (Mexican, t-shirt, shorts, tattoos....oh and being brown). That is the body language that was given by the first associate that assisted me and the manager just needed to "back up" her employee. This isn't the first time I have felt some sort of discrimination against myself or other people based on looks (race, color, attire). It may be that I didn't fit the stereotypical 2nd amendment goer? I will note that there is a really awesome African American manager that works there in the afternoons or maybe nights that seems to treat people all the same and doesn't make me feel like I'm being profiled from the moment I step into the store. After the experience I had today, I decided to read some reviews...and it seems like this is a typical "Modus Operandi" for this Dicks store in Bakersfield. You can almost say that most Dicks employees are just that....Dicks! Based on this, it may be a typical thing across the whole company. I expected better! I never go to this store because I don't ever need anything here but I have a job where I'm walking on concrete for 8 hours daily. I figured to go here because they have a decent selection. I was told by a few people not to go there but people just complain sometimes so I went anyways. I told the person helping me what I needed shoes for and that I had a flat foot. They had me buy some shoes that they said would be perfect. I also actually liked the look of them surprisingly. I bought them . I took them home walked in them down the sidewalk to see if they would hurt me or not , I was told I could return them if they didn't work. They killed my feet. Also when talking to a few runners I know they said they should have never been recommended or sold to me because they were not made for flat feet and had a built in arch. I went to exchange them and of course they wouldn't let me . They said they were USED due to the white bottoms having A little dirt on them (which if you look at shoes in the store they all do the floor is dirty) The funniest part is , the shoes I was going to exchange mine for, the lady thought those were mine because when she looked at them they had the same dirt on the bottom ‍. I told the manager they were barely walked in she was rude as hell and said no , I then asked her then why are the ones I was going to exchange for dirty and she said oh well I can give you 10% off. Basically admitting the ones in store were "used" too , which I'm sure they weren't. she's an idiot, anytime you try shoes on in store and walk in them the white bottom will be dirty. I called corporate they said that's ridiculous they wouldn't return them over the bottom and recommended going elsewhere or speaking to another manager as they clearly weren't used. Very helpful and gave great customer service. I wanted to exchange and item that I purchased on Instacart and didn't have a physical receipt. All three of their associates that I dealt with really stepped up and made it work out. Devon, Omar, and another female name Masleen I believe really went above and beyond to help me get this situation resolved. Golf Department is not well informed on their services or equipment. The worker informed me of wrong information. I left the store only to look it up myself only to find out he was wrong. I came back in the store and they said I should extend my clubs. So he wrote me up to have them extended. I paid and left the store. He didn't give me any time of when they would be done or that they had others to do. So I thought they would be working on them. I waited a day and thought to call and check. The girl who answered the phone I asked if my clubs were done. She stated no they hadn't started them yet. So I asked why? Again no word of other clubs to be done. She said there was 7 trucks to unload yesterday that's why she didn't get them done. She said she would talk to her Manager and see if she could get them done. So after work I go golf with my old clubs no big deal. After gold I check to she if she got them done. They said no. I said okay I'll come pick them up. When I arrive some guy from the golf department brings my clubs and tells me how rude and disrespectful I was to the girl and go ahead and take your clubs we don't want your money. The lady at the front that was the other Manager seemed pretty cool and is the first one to tell me usually it takes 3-5 days. That was never mentioned to me. I was never rude to the girl on the phone. One thing I did notice was that the manager that came from the golf department and was rude then just walked away doesn't seem like a golfer. The whole department seems to be non golfers. I know it's tough finding good employees but at least make dilute the ones you do have are informed on your policies and have them relay them to the customer. The way I was treated being a long time customer of this store was quite ridiculous. I just ordered a Ping wedge online and had it delivered 2 days ago.
