Never EVER open when it says at 11 no matter what day of the week or even coming consecutive days are they open at 11. If you have ever been to a subway and they were greedy with the amount of meat, they put on your sandwich then you will be just as disappointed at this particular dickies barbecue. I ordered the three meat plate and I have been ordering this for years. It felt very late when I picked up the bag to take it out to my car and when I got home, I was very very disappointed with the amount of meat they gave me. Very stingy. I should have read the reviews before coming here. I thought since we have eaten at other Dickey's we would know what to expect. While the meats were good (brisket and chicken breast. The sides were mostly a disappointment. The people were friendly, but the place was a bit of a dive. It's kind of hidden behind the Denny's and the sign is dark and hard to see in contrast to the bright lights pointing at you from the building. The potato casserole was a grayish blob that tasted old. The macaroni and cheese was ok. The green beans were too salty and too much pepper. They do not offer fried okra, although it's on the menu. read more

I don't even know what to say! How is it possible to screw up bbq? Obviously we were on the road, so so hungry and spotted this from the freeway, so we stopped. It looked really decent outside and also inside, it certainly has a Texas feel to it. Usually new places I order whats popular so ordered the brisket with Mac and cheese and cabbage slaw. The only thing good was the slaw. The brisket was like beef jerky and over salted and over peppered not sure how it's popular unless they figured we are just travelers and on our way never to come back and they need to get rid of food! The Mac and cheese literally tastes like noodles with velveeta mixed together. I was expecting a good creamy cheesy recipe but no. Lastly we ordered the pulled pork sandwich, it was pretty decent, but pricey! Meals and drinks were just under $40 bucks, I was shocked. Never again and I would not recommend this place ever! Who runs are the coleslaw at the barbecue place early in the day? I have been going to this place for a long time and the last time I went there is the last time I will go there. Our spot on the way home from Tahoe. We stopped by for a quick bite to eat. It's surrounded by a dennys and McDonald. We wanted something better than a generic burger. We walked in and have a pleasure welcoming inside. The food was warm and fresh! We enjoyed alittle sit down time before heading back to the road. Not very good for the price. We both got a brisket sandwich and they were full of fatty pieces. I literally had to dissect my sandwich in order to eat it. By the end of the operation I had a fatty mountain of brisket jiggle. Seemed overpriced for a bun, a couple slices of onion and a few pieces of meat that were mostly fat. In fact one of the pieces on my sandwich was only fat. Like how did the lady who made the sandwich think that I'd enjoy a big chunk of seasoned fat? FYI...I wouldn't. Coming in the two girls were awful, didn't acknowledge us and had their own personal conversation using inappropriate language as we were ordering. The meat was absolutely COLD and sooo over seasoned. Asking for the employee to warm the food to be a decent temperature was difficult. She had a difficult time understanding what I was politely asking for. I was also left without a roll which the plate came with and they informed us they were all out, yet they were eating multiple in the back of the counter !! HAD to come to Carl's jr. across to the street to not be hungry. The bad attitude and cold, overly seasoned meat was enough to walk out without eating. Excited to find Dickeys BBQ at a Truck Stop on the I-5 at Howard Road exit just north of Patterson, but that should have been my first RED flag. The Dickeys was hard to find and is literally in the back of the Joe's Travel Plaza with no directional signs (probably to protect the public). Then the staff at the counter standing around idly talking was the next red flag. The distinct smell of a faulty septic was the third strike. However, the fact that we did not walk out is our fault, but we were hungry, and wanted to get back on I-5 for a LONG trip. Next, There was no fried food available without further explanation or God forbid an "I am sorry." So we got our pulled pork sandwiches and jumped onto the highway in ignorant bliss. Or so we thought. We took one bite and the smell and taste made us immediately repell from the pungent smell and spit out the food, wrap up the spoiled pork and throw them out. We not only wasted $20 and we still need to find food to eat, which is not easy on the I-5, but we also have upset stomachs! DO NOT GO HERE!!! Dickies BBQ Pit of Dallas is substandard when it comes to the art of BBQ. Ordered a half rack of pork ribs at $14.95 which was pricey for what we got. The meat had a pleasant lightly smoked taste, but parts of it were so over cooked, the meat was dry & hard like jerky. The rub was vastly more harsh salt than fine herbs & spices so the meat came out way too salty. Truly amateurish attempt which resulted in faux bbq. Iced tea was so diluted that there was hardly any fragrance of brewed black tea, Also local water was probably used so it had a slight off tasting minerality so I switched beverages. The computer automated beverage machine also failed in recreating the exact flavour of classic Coke. It was too much carbonated soda water probably using the same local off tasting water and not enough of the classic Coke syrup. Ladies here were not particularly welcoming, but the young man & the gentleman who had to reboot the malfuntioning automated beverage dispenser were friendly & sociable. Unfortunately not worth the time off the road on the way to San Francisco to eat at Dickies. 2- Yelp stars. read more

Review #160 - 2019 Since we didn't have breakfast or lunch before driving out to LA, we were kind of struggling with deciding on where we wanted to eat along the way since we weren't sure if too many restaurants were even open on Fourth of July. Luckily, we decided to make a quick stop for gas & a bathroom break at the Chevron nearby & noticed that there's a Dickey's here. We showed up at around 3 PM & there weren't too many customers so we were the only ones waiting in line to order. This was my first time at a Dickey's so I wasn't sure what to expect so I walked up to the register & waited to place my order. Little did I know that you're suppose to place your food order cafeteria style, which was fine. I ended up ordering the family pack which comes with two pounds of meat, three medium sides and six biscuits. I wanted to try the ribs, but they didn't have any so I went with a pound of the brisket, which we all agreed was our favorite. I got a half pound of polish kielbasa and a half pound of the jalapeño cheddar kielbasa, both were just ok. My son said he liked the jalapeño flavor, but could do without the cheddar because it kind of made the sausage a little too wet, which I agree with. I got an extra order of half pound of chicken breast just to try & it wasn't too bad. I kind of expected it to be dry as most places tend to make the breasts on the dry side. The sides were all just ok. We got the mac 'n cheese, cabbage slaw and BBQ beans. Nothing too unique about them. We ended up having way too much food so we had to pack them up & bring them to LA with us, which I'm sure won't end up getting eaten since we tend to eat out a lot when we're on vacation. The food looked very unappealing and dry, but the lady who served me said that though the sausage looked not that good it would taste good. The Jalapeño sausage tasted like beef jerky. I couldn't finish any item I bought, the brisket I couldn't even taste just from the look of it. They had all the meat touching the metal tray... About 50% more than the last time I ate such. $23 buys me a pound of filet mignon. I think I remember how to cook one. read more

Found this place while getting gas...thought we'd try a place that's been around since 1949. Nice, clean, friendly and casual atmosphere. Had the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw on top. Bbq sauce bar had warmed regular, spicy and sweet sauce. I think my sandwich would have been perfect if the bun was toasted. I'd stop in again to try out their other sandwiches. The shared bathroom sign made me chuckle since it read something like 'men, women and all others'.:-) read more

We stopped at this location by chance because we realized there was another option available rather than the "same ole" fast food joint spots. Our family is SO THANKFUL that we chose to take a chance to pop in! They weren't even open yet (we arrived at 1030am and they weren't open until 11am) and they were flexible with us, letting us know that anything that didn't require the fryer was available to order. The owners were VERY friendly and hospitable, chatted with us and our children the whole time and made us feel comfortable while we waited for our food. We ordered the brisket sandwich and the mac&cheese... our kids were thrilled with the Mac and the sandos were awesome. Plus AMAZING spicy bbq sauce!! So, we have been coming here since they reopened, and until today we have had good service and food. Today, the employees decided masks were not necessary, insisted there was no longer a mask mandate in California, and that since Dickey's is a Texas based company, they do not require their employees to wear masks, even if it is required by local and state guidelines. The rude, obnoxious responses and the complete disregard for the safety of the employees and their customers has lost them my business. I will never return, and suggest you stay away if you value your health. If they disregard these guidelines, what else are they not complying with? Do they wash their hands? Is the food kept at a safe temperature? I can't trust these basic things are being done. read more
