My husband and I were really craving barbeque, but our favorite place is closed on Mondays. For some reason Dickey's BBQ came to mind, I was a huge fan when there was a location in National City's Plaza Bonita mall. I remembered the food being super affordable and tasty so we found that there was a still a location in El Cajon. I ordered sliders on the app, since they had a promo and we ordered chopped brisket, pulled pork and jalapeno cheddar kielbasa for a a plate with onion rings and fried okra. We also ordered a side of mac and cheese and half a pound of sliced brisket. For the amount of food we purchased I thought we got a really good deal. The staff was super friendly, it was a little slow but I think because it was a Monday and they seemed to be short staffed. We got our food in good time, we actually snacked on the sliders while we waited, sliced turkey and jalapeno cheddar kielbasa. You get the sauce in their containers, they keep their bbq sauce hot which I love. I loved the spicier options but the sweet bbq tasted like maple syrup. The bbq meats themselves were pretty tasty, the kielbasa I would definitely suggest to let cool before eating them. The texture firms up a bit once they've got to room temp. The sliced brisket had good portions of fat and we did share the chopped brisket with our dog when we got home. Super nostalgic feeling, super friendly service good amount of food for your money. Been here less than a handful of times. Tonight we were met with great service. The young lady was able to offer me something from the menu that turned out to be exactly what I wanted. Places like Dickies are hard for me to look at the menu, too many options, but the young lady made it super easy. I got a brisket buffalo fries type thing and they were really good. The place does look like it needs some maintenance or upgrades but everything still looked clean. Food was good for what it is and service was good too. I'll say this location has been average to slightly above but not every time. This is now the only Dickey's I can conveniently access since the only other ones in SD county are at Carmel mountain road and San Marcos. I like to use the app since there are deals and earn points and such. The BBQ is right about where it should be for a chain type establishment. The knock I have is when I do order through the app, the order is never ready when I arrive.. They are usually quick to react, but maybe they get a lot of no-shows for order pickups. The one thing I'll say is they are friendly to me every time and don't seem stressed out. Also, the ambiance is not bad with the country music and an old Ronald Reagan picture with Dickey himself on the wall.. The tables were clean too and nothing on the floor anywhere, which I like. Even the bathrooms are spotless when I've had to use them. The best thing for me here are pulled pork sandwiches, the westerner, and I do like the ribs. They use hickory in electric smokers which is the most versatile wood. Sauces could be better, I use original. The place always has a steady flow of customers, which is normally a good sign anywhere. Family wanted BBQ, and Dickeys online ordering, plus this location being close to home, made it a convenient choice. I took down the items my family wanted and started the order. The online menu was pretty easy to use, and I found an online-only special for an $8.99 pulled pork sandwich combo. Perfect, as that's what my wife wanted! It was a hectic evening at home, and the kids were being a pain, so I didn't notice until later that the restaurant charged me $15.95 for that $8.99 combo, so I figured I would ask about it when I got the the restaurant to pick up my food. I showed the person behind the counter my receipt in my email, and they said. "Oh...that's the Texas price." Then walked away to help someone else. No apologies, no offer to fix the issue. Just a plain statement that for whatever er reason they were advertising a price that they wouldn't honor. I wasn't going to raise a hassle with a clerk while my food was still being prepped (they went about 15 minutes past the estimated time on the order, by the way - and the place wasn't busy at all), so I just took my food and left. Still it rubs me the wrong way. So beware - if you order food from them online, the price might not match. Check your totals before paying - even if your kids are distracting you. This Dickey's location is fantastic. The staff here are very quick to get your food out, answer all of your questions, and get your order correct. They have a few local specials too like their Dickey's Fries, which I highly recommend trying. The restaurant is usually not too busy, and it's easy to get a seat here if your dining in. read more

The nicest interaction I've ever had in a restaurant! We ordered pickup on Uber eats but there was some issue with the menu that was on Uber eats vs the actual menu at the restaurant so the guy at the front let us know he was going to create a sandwich for us and if brisket was okay, we agreed and decided to eat inside. The food was delicious and absolutely above what I was expecting. The BBQ sauce was fantastic and you are able to choose from a verity. I had the chicken breast and pork ribs. My other half had the brisket pulled pork and jalapeno and cheese sausage. Even the cornbread muffin and the square bread were delicious. The service is great. A friend of mine invited my daughter and I out to dinner with her family. We asked about the offer for kids eat free and it turns out that we were a few days early since this deal is only on Sundays. First time and last time. The pulled pork and brisket was dry, the sausage bland and the ribs flavorful but fatty like they had not been trimmed. Not much difference in the sauces but you need them to help digest the meat. The sides were pedestrian, the green beans interesting, the fries limp, and the mac and cheese just OK. The highlight of the meal was the roll. The service was friendly. The ambiance was fair but the musak was not to our liking so we got the order to go. Ordered for pick up on DoorDash to avoid waiting. Got a notification that the order was ready so we drove out 15 minutes away only to arrive and not find my order. I asked the woman at the register for the order assuming it was ready and she just looked at me and said "I don't know" and a younger girl who was prepping the food came over and asked for the name. She then asked me to verify the order and I told her "two baked potatoes, one brisket and one simple." She said okay and told them to start making the order. I waited an additional 20 minutes before it was ready. Once we got home we found only one baked potato order, the second was some cold mashed potato looking casserole with chunky mashed potatoes that had already started to turn grey. The majority of the dish was sour cream that was spread out over the top. This was super disappointing since I had verified it was two baked potatoes with the girl prior to her making them. Went to dinner with the family yesterday the 10th September. We decided on Dickeys and really enjoyed the food. The staff were so helpful and service was excellent. We ordered the 3XL which came with 3 meats. We selected chicken brisket sausage with the sides . Meats were very tasty and tender sausage was regular and spicy. The sides were very good bbq beans mac an cheese potato salad and rolls. We have been to other BBQ places and Dickeys takes the top spot for us. read more

There was no "Texas toast" with my plate. And the food was lukewarm. It was a pickup order and I live 2 miles away (7 minute drive). I never get cold food with Phil's BBQ which is (17 minutes drive) 8 miles away. I went to Dickey's BBQ on Jamacha Rd because I REALLY want a great bbq spot CLOSE to home. I gave them another try a week later. Food was ready when we got there...
