When I read online that there was a barbecue food truck in Town, I got excited. It's kind of…read moreshameful how difficult it can be to find good barbecue in West Texas. Imagine going to Brooklyn and the only pizza joint available is Little Ceasar's and you have some idea of my general level of barbecue frustration. I spent 14 hours in mouth watering anticipation and was anxious to get eating. At noon, I loaded myself and my mother into the car and bee-lined for the location indicated on their post. When I pulled up, there were no other cars there, which is a shame. After all, if we don't support local restaurants, we deserve all the mass produced chain crap that we get. I ordered a 1 neat plate (brisket) and my mother got a 1 meat plate (ribs) for a total of $20. Each plate had about 3/4 to 1 lb of meat, a cup of potato salad and a cup of pinto beans. First, the sides. The potato salad was a mustard type (the ONLY kind, in my opinion) and was just about the most delicious potato salad I've ever had. It was at least the best I've had lately. The beans were generously seasoned and loaded with large chunks of pork. As a guy who spent 49 years hating beans, the fact that I ate every last drop if this magical legume concoction is pretty amazing. On to the meat. My brisket had a smoke ring about 1/2" thick with a crunchy, smoky bark and a no-nonsense, beefy flavor. No reason to gild the lily with ridiculously complex rubs. These guys keep it classic with the brisket and let the meat do the heavy lifting. If I had any complaint, it would be that I would really have enjoyed some meat from the fattier point to moisten up the leaner, drier flat. Otherwise, I recommend this joint to all die hard carnivores as well as recovering vegetarians. The truck can be located on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Tractor Supply parking lot and on Wednesdays on South Main Street across from Love's Convenience Store. Check 'em out!

The brisket I was served was very very fat, and it was not rendered out by proper cooking which resulted in a pile of chewey fat with a little meat in the mix. Some of the others had brisket that was dry and crumbly. It did not have a good Smokey flavor, and had a slight taste like it was cooked on propane. The meat I did get was more like a fat pot roast. The turkey was your basic deli processed turkey and was mushy. The sausage I am still trying to identify. It was tan in color with little flavor and the texture was way off. The beans were your standard Ranch Style Beans that were jazzed up a little. The potato salad was basically mashed potatoes. Im confident I will not attempt to eat this food again.

And it's just down the street from my house instead of several hours away - which is a culinary relief but a financial concern because it's all we want to eat! Our favorites are the moist brisket, sausage, fries, jalapeño creamed corn, and brisket beans. Although, to be honest, there's not anything on the menu that's anything but heavenly! Including the variety of iced teas! The staff is super helpful if you have any questions or need something specific due to dietary needs as well. If you prefer the burnt ends or extremely lean, they will work hard to get it for you if they have it! But they run out fast so get there in time to get what you want! We have often had dinner at 3PM to make sure we get plenty as well as get food to-go! It's worth it! Despite the demand and crowd combined with open air concept, they keep all the tables, condiments, and drink station SPOTLESS! And there's never any food on the playground or corn hole. I don't know how they do it but I'll pay double if they can come clean my house after or at least show me their magic tricks!!!

Brantley Creek Barbecue didn't come recommended--it came insisted upon. It wasn't, "You should…read morecheck this place out," it was, "You're going there tonight." And thank God for that level of conviction, because this spot absolutely delivered. I ended up visiting more than once during my trip, not out of obligation, but out of pure craving. Their Texas Twinkies were in a league of their own--perfectly smoked, balanced in spice, and filled with flavor that hits you like a freight train of umami. Every dish I tried had a level of care and craftsmanship you don't find often. This wasn't just barbecue--it was barbecue done by people who love what they're doing. And yes, I tried all the cobblers. (No regrets. Don't judge.) Each one was distinct, warm, and clearly made with the same attention as the proteins coming out of the pit. What really struck me though--beyond the incredible food--was the environment. Families everywhere. Kids playing. Laughter in the air. It made me miss my own. Brantley Creek isn't just a restaurant, it's a gathering place, a little slice of wholesome Americana where the food just happens to be world-class. If I could copy and paste this place into my hometown, I would--with fingers crossed that it could hold on to the charm, heart, and flavor that make it so special

The cashier quickly greeted us and told us a quick rundown about what they had, and where to order. There was so much food to pick from and it was hard to pick just one meal. I ended up ordering half a chicken with mashed potatoes and a potato salad. My husband ended up ordering three crunchy brisket tacos. We sat down and people kept trickling in. Our food didn't take too long and a different employee dropped it off. She was also very friendly and attentive. My chicken was delicious and HUGE. I couldn't finish it, so I had to take it on home. The sides are small, but they also accompanied my dish with a bread roll, some barbecue sauce, and a jalapeño with onions. My husband loved his brisket tacos and loved them even more after he poured some bbq sauce on top. They are also a market so they sell a lot of goods, fresh meat, and dairy. The inside is small but it all flows great. The fresh meat all looked of great quality and prices are reasonable! Can't wait to be back to try something else!
