Did I already rate this place? Haha I've heard about it for years and finally tried it a couple months ago. It lives up to its hype! Remember, this place has been on national TV before...extremely consistent, hot and fresh steak fingers that can't be beat! I'm glad I was in the Midland-Odessa area because we made a trip just to Andrews for Buddy's. The $20 basket can be shared. The gravy is great and so are the fries and slaw. This drive-in/drive-up was delicious. If we make it back that way, we will enjoy Buddy's again! For now, I'll remember it in my dreams ...hahaha! read more

LOCATION/AMBIANCE It looks a bit rundown on the outside, but it's mostly a drive-in. It seems like the dining room has been closed for quite a few months due to staff shortage. I hope this changes soon because this looks like an awesome diner. THE GRUB The steak fingers basket ($15.25) had the best steak fingers I have ever had. Only one strips had some tough pieces. The cream gravy comes in a somewhat small cup. My family has always been big on gravy... they don't do a simple dip -- no, no -- they do dip and scoop method. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB I'm not sure if there is a kid's menu. The menu on the wall was a bit hard to read in its entirety. My 9 & 10-year-olds ended up ordering cheeseburgers ($9 each) with an order of crinkle fries ($3.25). These didn't come with drinks. SERVICE At first I didn't realize that the dining room was closed. We waited a while for the long employee we interacted with to come out to take our order. She didn't write anything down and that always concerns me. Lol. My youngest daughter said her cheeseburger was sans cheese. The food is cooked to order, so be prepared to wait upwards of 25-30 minutes. MY FAVORITE PART... The steak fingers & cream gravy! Buddy's went under new management. Some things have changed. And some for the better. It's still okay food. I miss the old gravy they used to serve. The steak fingers are okay. I feel like they used to be better than what they are now. Not sure if maybe the grease needs to be changed more often or what.. but they just taste a little different. read more

The Original Steak Finger Headquarters? In Andrews, TX? Heck yeah, when in the area, give it a try! I was on a mission for steak fingers, which I had heard were some of the best. You can dine in or pull up and wait for a car hop. We opted for the car hop which ended up being a 15-20 minute wait for food. The steak finger order is HUGE. At $10 + some change you get your money's worth, but do you need that much fried in one sitting? You get a boatload of steak fingers (some delectable bites and some a bit gristly) with a small side of creamed gravy, Texas toast and delicious fries. I am still working on the steak fingers a day later. They were delicious cold for breakfast. read more

Really good steak fingers. I travel throughout TX's smaller towns and eat at a lot of cafes. The SF here rate #2 overall because of the the gravy. Just nothing special. In fact, for the fingers alone, the best I've had anywhere. But gravy can make or break a dish. It did NOT mess up this meal at all. This experience was very nice for me and my grandmother. I went in with high expectations for this restaurant. And to finish that sentence i was very pleased with how my experience turned out. When i first glanced the menu i saw the original (which is what i planned on eating) it was priced at 12.50!! Which i thought was crazy. But when our food came (in under 15 minutes) i saw a giant pile of steakfingers on my plate along with fries and toast. I was very pleased with my meal. Everything was good except for our gravy which was incredible i have never had gravy that fit a meal that well! I do think the meal was a bit much maybe like 2$ too expensive. The place was one of the cleanest ive been to. The staff were very friendly and nice. The staff was serving cleaning and exceeded my standards by a lot! Let me begin by saying that the steak fingers are GREAT! Now with that said, the dining area is FILTHY, infested with flies, and the men's room floor looked like it hasn't been mopped in 10 years. Now in regards to the service, we were told to seat ourselves. It took what seemed like an hour for our food to come out. The waitress brought us some food and as we were about to start eating she said, " oh wait that's their order." and proceeded to take it to them after my daughter had already picked one of the steak fingers up to eat it. Needless to say this place has gone down hill since the 90's when it was the place to go for their famous steak fingers. As for the steak fingers they were good. Not great, just good. This maybe a place better suited for carry out only. Call it in and take it with you or just avoid it all together. I lived in Andrews for many years and was passing through and wanted some steak fingers but didn't get any. I tried calling many times and phone was always busy. This place started out ok, but seems to be falling off, hit and miss; more miss than hit lately. I was stopping here frequently, these last few times haven't been the best experience unfortunately. I'm not sure if the guy was new or what but when I asked what came with the steak fingers or chicken fried steak his response was "not sure". How are you not sure? Don't you work here? So he goes back inside and brings us our order finally, not to mention we waited 15 minutes before ordering for them to open because we thought it would be "worth the wait". We get our order, hungry as ever! Chicken fried steak seemed to be heated up not to mention soggy and patchy with 0 FLAVOR!! Didn't even bring out utensils to cut the steak! Only thing that was edible was the onion rings and that's saying something! I don't recommend this place at all. I keep seeing that the customer service is only sub-par...but you didn't come here for the service...you came here for the best steak fingers in the god damn state! We're spoiled as Texans to be honest, the rest of the world has no idea what steakfingers are, yet here we are able to get a plateful of delectable eats for $10?! Truely we are blessed. Also the service is also top notch when I come to town, so I think everyone else is just a bunch of crazies. In any case, this review isn't really for people who live in Andrews, the population of like 20 knows about this place (kidding, I'm from Odessa where the population is slightly higher, like 50?) and have made their decision. At any rate, if you're passing through and not sure where to go, the only place you should remotely be considering is this spot to get the steakfingers! Generously breaded, but also very meaty I've never had better. Granted frying up meat is generally a winner, but it's definitely a cut above the rest because of that meat to breading ratio (highly in favor of the meat) as well as the quality of the breading itself. Okra is also the side I would go with as it's fresh, not dry, but also crispy. I don't know why I even mention that, because you'll be too full from the main star to really care. Oh also, the gravy is a little bland, so pepper the hell out of that for sure. One of my favorite all time restaurants. People might say that's me blissfully reliving my childhood nostalgia, but show me a better steakfinger joint in all the land, and maybe I'll tone the hype down a little. First I would say Buddy's used to be a great place for food. However the past year it has become a hit or miss place with the food and the service. I can understand the 30-45 minutes for the food if it's hot, but when it's cold that should be different. Then several times steakfingers are hot, but my chicken fried steak is cold. Depends on what time and how many people are in your party if the service is good. Several time my family and I have gone in past 7 but before 8 and the waitress barely even checks on us or even remembers we are there a party of 7. We stop at Buddy's when we pass through Andrews on our way to watch our daughter play college softball in New Mexico. We always get the steak fingers and fries and are never disappointed. It is a very old place and is very run down but it appears they are trying to do some painting and updating a little. They allow smokers until 11:00 am but even not letting customers smoke after 11 still leaves a lingering smell , but we have never had a bad meal. . read more
