    Steak fingers and fries!

Great little locally own place. We love supporting small business. Very friendly people. You need to come hungry because you get a lot of good food.

Lunch was good. If you get chicken fingers share it with yourself and two older kids or at least two adults. Trust me. Seriously trust me. Foods very good old west Texas cafe food. If what everyone is saying about the breast feeding mom the this should be addressed by owner. However there was a time a family was trapped by a terrible snow storm and the owners gave the shelter and stellar hospitality. Remember the owner is an elderly woman and the waitress is alone in that place and also elderly. She looks like she must run 5 miles per day. Cut them a tiny bit of slack. I'm a pediatric nurse so I'm an advocate of breastfeeding, but in their era you covered up to feed. Just lien piercings and tattoos, it's a new age for some and this maybe the new normal for you. Service is super slow because of one waitress and a full dining room. Still 4 star because food is great. UPDATE. COVID. masks not being worn by elderly waitress. Not even an attempt which surprises me. Sign on door says must wear masks. Steak fingers were good hit wish we'd ordered chicken. Did share!

Definitely a good place to stop on a road trip, the food was overall very good. The salad bar and the chicken noodle soup are a little boring and bland. The rolls here were the fluffiest I've probably ever had and were incredible. The hamburger steak was amazing although some of the onions on top were obviously undercooked, the mashed potatoes were great as well. I would absolutely stop here again, you also cannot beat the prices.

Great little mom and pops place. This little hole in the wall sits in the middle of this blink and you'll miss it town. We had planned on eating somewhere else but that place had closed down and we saw this old building sitting by itself and glad we ate here. Service was nice and the food was good. Biscuits was fluffy and while I had better gravy, the gravy and biscuit was still good. If you get in lost Tatum, stop by this place!

The owner has been operating this business for 30 years (as of Feb 2026). The buffet had a beautiful fresh selection of veggies and few special things too. And the strawberry pie, brownies and peach cobble and chocolate pudding and ice cream were available if you still had room for them! Not only would we whole hearty recommend we may go back for breakfast! Thank you Terry!

How it works... you either sign in or let the hostess know how many. The lobby area is tiny. There are seats but you'll probably have to share a bench. They accommodate large parties of it seems up to 12. I kept hearing that number. Lol. On 7.11.2025, I was seated at a a quieter area by myself. Reba took over as my waitress. She is the sweetest little ol' lady! She brought me fresh rolls. Even one to-go before I left. The buffet seemed interesting, but I wanted the 8 oz. ribeye steak ($16.95 with a side & a salad bar visit). They served it in a reasonable amount of time, medium rare. It was perfect. Good fatty pieces to keep it juicy. Reba asked me if I wanted steak sauce. No thanks. Not needed. Before that I visited the salad bar. It's a decent salad bar. The ladies refresh it often and tidy it up. I just don't like the tight fit and the cords in the way on the floor if you have to use the other side like I did. The steamed broccoli with my steak was fine. I had sweet tea to drink ($2.75). All that food for just a little over $21... I'm a fan!

Baja Grill in Lovington, NM, was on my bookmarks for a long time. It was well worth the wait! At around 1:45 pm, I walked into a nearly empty restaurant. I was seated right away and served some very good red salsa and crispy, semi-thick homemade tortilla chips. I liked the variety of high-top and normal-height tables. I knew as soon as I saw "blackened tilapia" on the menu I had to have it. "Served on a bed of rice pila" ($12.99), it also came with my choice of two sides. The charro beans and fried okra were excellent! While my fish wasn't the freshest, the seasoning was really delicious. The outer edges were crispy, but inside the fish was flaky and moist. I also ordered a refreshing Sprite. Paid cash. Got just a little less than $4 back. Service was nice, but my waitress only checked on me after she realized I was ready to go. The food is fairly unique to Lea County. I can see why my employees like this place. I'm glad I had a lot on my mind that day... Really dumb parking lot, though. No painted lines so everyone just parks like idiots. And it's rather dull on the outside. Hard to easily recognize that it's a place that serves seafood. My husband loved his brisket tacos and loved them even more after he poured some bbq sauce on top. They are also a market so they sell a lot of goods, fresh meat, and dairy. This past Tuesday we had a party of 10 for mi abuelas 90th birthday celebration with a 3pm reservation, since that is when my grandmother typically eats. They sat us at a very nice wooden table, but we were a bit crammed in with everyone elbowing each other as we at and a few on the ends having to straddle a table leg. Service was on the slow side with apps coming out before our drinks were delivered, and without offering appetizer plates for the large table to share. No clearing of salad plates or drink refills when the food arrived, but we stacked and cleared some space ourselves. The food was all really good. Grandma loves the Cheese Sticks and Sautéed Mushroom appetizers so that is what we had. Several of us had Chicken Fried Steak, a few had El Rio Pollo, one steak, one salmon, one Salad only and one Crispy Chicken salad. We all loved all the food! Drink refills eventually happened and the server was kind. I wasn't able to get photos of everyone's food around the large table. Now the other alternative was Texas Roadhouse. Don't get me wrong, I'm regionally from where Texas Roadhouse was founded and it's huge, especially where I'm from. But part of my philosophy when traveling is to try someplace new, traditionally NOT a chain. So I gave this a shot. Cattle Baron reminds me of those old school steakhouses in the 90s that served steaks and an AYCE salad bar. Except it's much nicer ambiance-wise with a broader menu. I ordered the largest ribeye steak they had with a loaded baked potato, unlimited salad bar, a Coca-Cola, and a brownie for dessert. The total for ALL that ended up being $48.35. That's really cheap considering I had to be rolled out on a stretcher (joking). The most expensive item was the steak, in the $30-range but an unlimited salad bar for $4.95 and dessert for $6.95 can't be beat. The salad bar had everything you'd want in a salad bar with fresh veggies and toppings along with two soups, premade salads, and a sampling of sweet items like jello and fruit. I got 2 plates from the bar and two small bowls of soup. The steak and potato soup was good but the chicken soup was a bit salty for my taste. My steak and loaded potato was good and hit the spot. The potato was kind of dry, assuming it was a potato, already cooked hours ago and they just pulled it out to serve to me. After smothering it in butter and sour cream, the dryness disappeared. The steak was cooked medium rare, so no issues there but there was very little seasoning. I added salt and pepper to it, which made it a lot better. I wish it had a little bit more searing/char to it. I ended the meal with a brownie and ice cream, with caramel drizzle. The brownie was fairly large and warm, with a nice scoop of ice cream and ample ribbons of caramel sauce. It was really delicious and not too overly sweet! It definitely put me over the food coma edge. Service was good, but slow. My waitress explained to me that it was slow because a table of 39 people showed up, so she apologized. It didn't bother me though because I was so tired from working nearly 12 hours that day. I'm glad I supported local and my meal was definitely worth the price.
