We were working with a very helpful salesperson named Allison over the weekend. There was a particular ring we had transferred over to compare to another men's band. She told us that it would arrive on Wednesday but did not tell us we had to wait for a phone call. We were eager to put in an order. So we arrived at the store on Wednesday morning at 10:30AM. We were greeted by a lady who seemed less than enthusiastic we were here before there was a phone call made. She seemed annoyed to have to look up our account. She was able to find the ring in their safe. She seemed confused when we asked her if we can see the ring side by side with the other one we were considering. She passed us onto another gentleman who seemed even less eager to help us. He showed us the two other bands we were considering but kept putting them away before we had fully looked at them. We asked several times to have him bring them back out for comparison. He said nothing to us other than the customary "hi" and "this one here?" I get the feeling the salespeople work on commission and do not help each other out to work as a team. I have no other explanation for why we were so obviously rebuffed. I want to buy this men's band but I genuinely feel like I should spend my money elsewhere. read more

This one star review is not a review of their jewelry, but of the quality of customer service I received today when visiting Diamonds Direct in the Domain. I asked an attendant to perform a gold Karat verification test. For those who don't know what that is, it is a basic test performed right on the counter in front of you to verify that the jewelry is in fact the karat that it is stamped with. At ANY jewelry store or repair shop this test costs roughly $10 and is readily available. In my case, I asked them to perform the test on my 10K gold necklace. The attendant rudely stated that they couldn't test it because "they don't sell jewelry of such low karat". He said they only sell 14K and greater, therefore only have the tests for 14K and greater. It was the tone and body language of the attendant that I am commenting on: he may well have said "take your garbage jewelry out of here", when a polite "I'm sorry we can't help you with this, we simply don't carry the test for 10K gold here" would have sufficed. My experience today makes me feel as though their "we're not like other jewelry stores" commercials are quite bogus. They advertise that they are a friendly neighborhood jewelry store with the customer's happiness being their number one priority and that was simply not true today. read more

At 43, I just had my first experience with this process. More importantly I found that I could not beat the long-term guarantee they offered, which gave me peace of mind. Some observations from my experience... Some men who are shopping for a wedding ring want a man to commiserate with. It's a grueling process, and can be an unnerving one. It's good to have a sympathetic ear. Others, like me, will find a woman's opinion extraordinarily valuable, especially if you are unfamiliar with the latest styles in jewelry. A woman's opinion is also valuable in selecting diamonds because of the inherent trade-offs that must be made between quality, cut, clarity, color, and price. I relied on Misty, an attentive but not smothering salesperson who offered constructive and valuable guidance as we selected diamonds, chose a setting, had custom work done, and financed the entire thing. Misty had an excellent sense of style and helped me understand a woman's mentality when selecting jewelry. She was my right hand through the entire process as we perfected the final engagement ring. At the end, when we came back to the store together, my fiancée gave Misty a huge hug and thanked her for making the ring so perfect. Today, my fiancée has a beautiful, unique ring. I have the great feeling that comes with getting a fabulous deal on a quality product, knowing that I did not overpay. And, I also rest easier knowing that I have a guarantee that I can always exchange the ring if she changes her mind on it, or me. Diamonds Direct and Misty made me very happy and beat the competition on selection and price consistently. And, their hot chocolate/coffee machine made me (and my kids) very happy too! Lastly (I feel I must respond to some of the negative reviews), I am fairly successful but I tend to wear shorts, sandals, and a t-shirt as much as possible. Candidly, I do not look like the kind of person who buys the kind of ring I just did. When I walked into Diamonds Direct I never had a problem getting help or service. Misty jumped to help me and (even though it took days) she was committed to helping me find what I wanted. While, I am not suggesting that others' reviews aren't accurate, I would suggest that if you aren't getting attention - ask for help. My husband & I went to DD to pick out an engagement ring during their 20% off sale. We found a beautiful pear shaped diamond for an incredible price. My husband told me I should take a picture of it to send to my mom to show off. Thank God I did that! They apparently had to resize & remake(?) the ring because it needed to be sized down a lot. Well when I went to pick it up a few weeks later it looked COMPLETELY different! I'm not even exaggerating. The ring I initially purchased was a beautiful, typical shape pear diamond ring. What I got when I picked it up looked like a rounded diamond with a vague point at the top. I couldn't believe it! Like I said, luckily I took that photo so I was able to show them what I had actually purchased so they went ahead and remade the ring AGAIN. This was a year ago. Last night I went back to look at the photos since I considered writing a review to advise future customers to always take a photo of the jewelry they purchase here & I counted the diamonds on the halo of the original ring we purchased & there were fourteen. When I counted the diamonds on the halo of the ring I have been wearing for a year there are thirteen. THIRTEEN! They jipped me of one diamond on the halo! I'm not even going to tell my husband this bc he will blow a gasket, but I am floored at the unreliability of Diamonds Direct. If you end up still going after reading this review just please take a photo of the item for your sake! The first two photos were taken the day we went in & purchased the ring. The third photo is what they gave back to me after it was sized & "remade". The fourth photo is after I showed them the first two photos & demanded they remake it. The only reason Im not giving 5 stars is because Austin is a LOCAL city and this isnt really a LOCAL business. That being said- I had a great experience. Richard is a super stylish, fun guy, and he helped me find what I WANTED, not what a salesman might want me to buy. I have a beautiful Verragio engagement ring. The center stone was chosen with love and the entire thing is gorgeous. That being said- I didnt want the matching band. It was too big and it competed. Richard agreed and helped me find something I WOULD like. A much less expensive, but in my opinion more beautiful, tiny little infinity band. Its petite and delicate and almost hides under my ring. It represents the intimicy of marriage and the ability to be small and vulnerable. About two months ago I lost my diamond out of my wedding ring. I was really heartbroken. My husband of almost 25 years gave me the carte blanche to go looking for a new ring to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We looked at some of the cases and once he saw what attracted me, he went to work explaining the "diamond holder" ring versus the diamond quality and the 4 C's. He gave me many options and showed me how to cut cost and where to consider increasing cost. We spent about an hour together, and he never look rushed. Did I mention this was the day before Valentines Day and there were lots of customers? Marc was amazing and so helpful and knowledgeable and engaging. I ended up finding a great deal on a simple solitaire ring with a beautiful diamond elsewhere, but we went back to Diamonds Direct because the sales person, Misty, had done a wonderful job asking questions to understand my fiancee's taste and found a setting she just couldn't get out of her head. The price was great too, though they have a lot of upscale choices as well. I should also mention it's a great atmosphere with a neat coffee maker and ring pops(hah!). Bottled water was appreciated as well. They put our diamond in the new setting, and it looked amazing. Would definitely recommend to a friend. We thoroughly enjoyed shopping there. Very good experience. I found the engagement ring designer I had been looking for in San Antonio, TX which nobody had. Their regular retail price was already lower than other stores I had called. I lucked out that weekend because they had a designer sale going on, which provided another 20% off. Needless to say the ring I purchased is a tension ring, which has to be custom fit. The lady who attended us took us into an office, provided us with wine and great service while we went through several loose diamonds until we selected the one we wanted, negotiated the price, (they have price matching) and closed the deal. They were cool enough to give me a tension ring "loaner" while we waited for the real thing to come in 2-3 weeks. So in a nutshell, good service, good prices and nice environment. And this is some advice for those that did not get the same experience, here or at other retailers...., If you walk into an establishment and feel you have not been treated promptly and nice.. He is incredibly knowledgeable on the entire inventory, and he really listens to what you like and was very good at finding rings that were my style. A place in Dallas quoted me $200 for this which I thought was ridiculous. When I bought the ring, Diamonds Direct had said resizing is free. They even told me the Dallas place shouldn't charge me. However, when I went to pick it up - they charged me $745 for a ring I had already paid for. They didn't even resize it, just gave me a smaller ring. read more
