This place is a hidden gem, and everyone that works here feels like a big family! I had a blast hanging with them in back and getting to know them as he worked on my ring--he ended up saving it, it's gorgeous now and everything I wanted!! The first place I took the stones, I was quoted a remarkably high price; a surprise, given I was supplying the gems. Over the phone at Midas, I was given quite a few options, including their purchasing a setting for my stones instead of custom making it. Because I had appraisals, I could supply dimensions via email & received a quote as well as a photo of a setting. I was concerned the profile was too high, but Kat reassured me it was lower profile that the picture indicated. I picked up the ring yesterday, and could not be happier. It is exactly what I wanted, and at a very reasonable price. Kat was completely right--the stones are not anywhere near as high as I had feared. I will be a repeat customer! Just DONT send anyone who is unsure or has little experience. Cat will push to go bigger, more expensive and to go with certain styles that are pleasing to her and is visibly disappointed if you stick with what you want. There was also a moment where Cat mentioned a setting and I quickly and clearly said "I thought about it but I don't want that", she proceeded to get on her keyboard to look up anyway, show me, try to sell me on it and quote me for the item. A friend recommended we call Midas, and while we had another jeweler recommended to us as well, we quickly came to trust Midas and knew we would work with them after a visit to the shop to meet the team there. Speaking of gems... this shop is a diamond in the rough. I found their non-pretentious storefront spoke volumes about their business - they are all about the jewelry and not into the stuffy overpriced retail scene. They described their prices as "somewhere between wholesale and retail", and judging by the prices I saw in their jewelry case, I found that to be accurate. They have some unique jewelry there in the shop but can also customize from an idea, a sketch, a picture from a magazine... In fact my idea was a little bit of all of that. Step by step they helped us get our idea translated into a 3D image, then a wax casting of the design and then a beautiful piece that I get to wear for the rest of my life. Not only that, they made a special effort to finish the ring before Christmas, which was a wonderful treat for me. Charles has been in the jewelry business for several decades and we admired his knowledge and his candor about styles, metals, stones, everything. We also worked closely with Margot on the design - she made suggestions that made my ideas even better. I've also talked with Rima, though not worked as closely with her yet, and plan to revisit to follow up for re-sizing and some questions about maintenance. Both times I came to him with the drawings of what I envisioned, then he and his team turned them into better versions of those ideas. A stone fell out of my eternity wedding band and I was devastated! I took it to one jewelry store in town, but they just showed me a picture in a brochure of what my stones in a new setting from a store in California would look like. I wanted something more customized, not from a catalog. A friend recommended that I check out Midas Manufacturing and I'm so glad I did! I walked in to their very unassuming, almost warehouse-like office. From the showroom (which is tiny) you can see the jewelers in the big back room wearing their loops and special glasses, meticulously creating beautiful pieces. I was greeted by J, who is truly an artist. I explained to him what I was looking for, and he explained to me their process. First, he would create a CAD image of a design, based on what I was asking for. Then, when I loved what he had done on the computer, they would create a wax replica of the piece using a 3-D printer. We discussed materials and J suggested I make the new piece in 14K white gold, since my now 13-year-old platinum ring was distorted and bent after being worn every day, which caused the metal to snap and the stone to fall out. They also properly sized me, and were able to make a new ring without replacing the stone that had been lost. A day after I left my ring, J emailed me with a beautiful design. It was great, but not exactly what I wanted, so I sent him a picture of a design I wanted incorporated. He re-did the CAD image and re-sent. It was perfect. A few weeks later they emailed an image of the 3-D printed replica, and a week later my ring was ready. The ring that I ultimately got from Midas is perfect. It's a custom designed piece, for which I was involved every step of the way. That makes it really special to me. Midas credited me for the old setting, and I was very pleased with the end result and the price. It was custom created, perfectly suited to me, and hundreds of dollars less than the catalog ring I had seen earlier in the process. The folks at Midas are totally down to earth and relatable. J is an artist, not a jewelry salesman, and that's what I wanted. Carlos, who works in the back with the tiniest instruments and stones, came out and showed me how to use a loop so I could see that three of the stones in my ring were broken because the platinum setting just wasn't appropriate for my use.
