I've been doing business with Diamond M Lumber since about 1980 as a homeowner, not as a contractor. I have always found them to be responsive to my needs. Their ginormous yard and store have about anything you could possibly want, consistent with an old fashioned country lumber yard. You can help yourself inside the store or they will provide assistance in finding what you need on the huge sales floor. The place is cluttered but they have about anything you possibly need from outsized lumber to real oak trimming, to multiple sizes and grades of plywood and treated plywood. They have many obscure items that a big box store wouldn't carry. Also, they offer bulk purchases of all manner of nails, screws and washers, right out of the boxes, as in days of old. If you are purchasing anything more than a few pieces or quantities of something, the owner will give you an adjusted price in many cases. A contractor I hired for a home addition relied on Diamond M for building supplies, especially since he needed some very outsized micro-lam beams to carry out my architectural plans. The downside of the business is that they are lacking an inventory control system and they use penciled pricing books to cost out an order, due to the lack of any computers at the counter. One employee told me jokingly that if he finds that something is out of stock, they tell the management and they will order a truckload of it! When I was in my prime, and doing a lot of work on my home and property, they came to know me. Whenever I walked in they would acknowledge me. Only once was the owner a bit snippy with me when I asked him a question while he was behind the counter but I didn't realize he was in the middle of some pricing estimates. So if you need something common and simple in small quantities, or if you need a huge barn beam and monster sized bolts to secure it, they will probably have it, or get it for you. read more

Don't give this non customer store one cent of your money. Prepared to send hundreds it was too close to closing time to take my order. I offer to do order and pick up the next day. I worked my ass off for these guys and when I First started I explained that I had experience with metal framing but I could frame. Me and the Foreman agreed on me giving it a go. The first week I get a hang of it and I'm told I am doing a Great Job. After the first week I didn't frame for a month and a half. They had me loading the machine that cuts the lumber, weed eating with a a weed eater that had a blade smaller than a lighter and had me cut the whole yard in 102° temperature's, and when I get back to framing, They Told me I had to build 4 cart's worth of Framing ( The cart's have the pre cuts for the wall's to build and each cart holds 5-6 wall's). After NOT framing for since the first week. I also had a fractured hand and was in a brace, I had it fractured for a couple of weeks! So This morning I come into work and was told if we ( Me and a girl who started 2 weeks before me) had to build all 4 cart's or were FIRED. I explained to the Foreman that I wasn't building wall's for way over a month and The guys who had been there for Years would have trouble finishing all 4 cart's. And my partner, She couldn't read a tape measure correctly, Everything thing had to be 16th's she didn't know w what an 8th's, 1/4's, or even a half ( for a half she call's it 8/16ths????) She wasn't confident in building the wall's, she was building things wrong and we would have to tear out nails, she would ask questions I knew answers to, But because she was there two weeks before me, She didn't trust me, We would wait 20 minutes to get an okay, when I said everything was fine. So she had the Foreman over for Every little thing. I explained it's impossible to get 20 wall's done with a partner who can't build one wall with out asking a simple question. So I was told to go home. I was pushed into pretty much quiting, Given the impossible task they KNEW couldn't be done, Then they refused Unemployment??? Trash should be there name. read more

BEWARE if you are placing an order. I placed an order over the phone for a specific side of a French door. Gary placed the order (incorrectly). I picked up the door. Then I looked at it after I got home. He ordered the wrong side. He will not take the door back. The mistake is his and his alone. When he repeated to me what side, I corrected him once on the phone. Then he hung up and ordered the wrong side anyway. We have always been loyal customers to Diamond and was getting ready to order another door and windows. We will be taking our business someplace else instead. It's very sad as we wanted to remain customers there, but can't at this point! read more

Called to find out availability of rough cut lumber - woman told me 'yes, we have that.' - asked about a couple of size options and she put me on hold then came back on and told me 'we don't have any'. So, I asked what they do have and she put me on hold to see if the boss would talk to me. Came back on again and told me 'Sorry, we don't have any'. Couldn't get any helpful information when I tried to find out why she originally said 'yes' or if I could order any through them or where I could find some. read more

After placing 3 calls during 1 week to confirm stock, process and hours of operation; after being instructed by their staff to "just ask at the counter when you're here Saturday to have them cut the plywood; after driving over an hour, confidently since all questions asked and answered; I am told while standing at the desk that they do not nor do they ever have someone available on Saturdays to cut wood. I don't have a truck so I was unable to make purchase. We drive an hour again, during the week, after being assured over the phone that it can be cut the plywood, only to find out once again, no one to cut it. How does a lumber yard, specially this size, consistently not be able to cut wood? read more

I don't understand the poor reviews. "Nasty people?" That has NEVER been my experience. Every employee I've ever spoken to has been helpful to a fault. I've purchased dimensional poplar to fabricate porch railings, cherry boards for open kitchen shelving, OSB cedar sheets to line closets, and more construction lumber than I can even recall. Rude is an under statement! Honestly, I don't think it has to do with race either. The reason why I'm giving 1 star: I'm trying to sell my uncles estate. He had purchased plywood from Diamond Lumber to replace his roof a few years back. I'm trying to figure out when the purchase was made in order to give me a starting point with his bank account to find the roofing company. I called and asked for the accounting department. The man who answered didn't seem to know what an accounting department was. He put me on hold. A woman then picked up, I explained myself and the she said they don't have computers and don't keep customer information. I indicated that I did not want or need to know how much was spent, just the month and year of purchase. She sternly replied NO and hung up. read more

Customer service is out the window here. I'm letting people know that Diamond Lumber should close up and move away. Please don't go there if your in need of " anything " . They are arrogant, rude, nasty, and will not return your repeated phone calls, won't take your call even if they are there during business hours, and if you leave them a message on their answering machine, you will not get a call back. They are only interested in taking your money and selling you on a false promise that they can provide you with excellent contractors who can install it for you. No one has any customer service skills that work there. When the people who work at the front desk lie about the person you are trying to speak with, and tell you that they are not there, when they are. What does that say about customer non service. And once you are speaking with that person finally, ( person who sold you the product ) and they tell you that we don't care if the contractors they recommended never show up for their scheduled appointments and gives you every excuse in the world why they didn't, it will leave you to wonder if going to a big box store would have been a better choice, and sometimes they have similar issues too. So if you like chasing someone down to get nothing done and don't mind being treated like sh-t on the bottom of a shoe, and tell you that you're not entitled to a refund, and we don't care. Then this is just the place for you!!!!! P.S. Awful awful awful customer service. My sister and I walked in last week after dealing with the woman on the phone. You'd think I was asking her to give up her first born by how she reacted when I asked about our order (which is way overdue btw). I'm mentioning this because I've seen other reviews referring to racism....we are both white. So it appears these people just don't care, no matter what you look like. The guy behind the counter tossed our paperwork to us like, "go away, I'm done with you". He would answer a question and then walk away and we kept having to call him back bc we had more questions. I had to exchange a window screen. I followed the worker to the warehouse and he couldn't find the right size after looking for a good amount of time. He said they would order it and call me when it came in. I left. Ten minutes later they called to say they found it and was I close by? I was excited because I live an hour away. Turned around and picked it up. The worker was so happy that he found it for me. Everyone there was helpful and kind. Nice place to do business. read more

I showed what I needed they took out of hand and tossed it back at me WTF then told me to ask another guy the guy says we don't have it got to artistic hardware in cherry hill and both men walks away into office. I wanted make sure I'm getting correct place because only come up with Northfield so I tried to get their attention saying Excuse me loudly a couple times NOTHING! I guess my money not green. Stay away from this place. I purchased and paid for a window, which I saw in the warehouse and had them hold it for me. After waiting two months for my contractor to pick up this window, I called two days ago and spoke to Gary. Gary said the window was there. Because I had to drive over an hour(two hours in total) to pick up the window, I asked two more times if the window is there. Gary said it was. Well, it was not there and they lost my paperwork. Our first and last visit to this place. Nasty gray hairs man at desk. Didn't want to talk to a women and questioned me on the materials I asked for which really pissed me off. Asked him if he could help me find something in there mess of a store and deferred me to Dan which directed me to an aisle. No help at all, I had to find it myself. Yard gentlemen was nice but our windshield was cracked when loading wood onto our truck and subsequently needs to be replaced. I'm not saying it was there fault completely but you would think they would be able to give you some "safety" suggestions to prevent that from happening again. Went in to purchase sand and bags as hurricane Irene was approaching. It was a circus in Diamond M. Was getting different information from different people that worked there. Before I purchased my sand and bags I looked up at the sign that said no returns for credit card purchases, no returns. I asked can I return them, yes, as long as you pay cash. Took them back on Tuesday I pulled around to the side of the building for them to remove the sand & bags, that's when they hit me with a 10% restocking fee (no place in the store was this visible). read more

They have everything. Especially those hard to find items you cannot get anywhere else including large size lumber. The downside is you will spend no less than 2 hours getting in and out. They hand write bills in pencil . The bills are checked by four different people using calculators and probably and abacus. The goods you bought are triple checked on your truck. It seems the employees are not to even trust each other there. I would use them a lot more if they came up with a better system. The quality of their lumber is very good. The wait may not be worth it. My workers refer to the place as Bedrock and the owner as Mr. Slate. read more

I would rate less than 1 star if I could. I went to Diamond Lumber and spoke to Gary to order a door. I brought the spec sheet from another supplier's quote to make sure the door was ordered correctly. 3 weeks later the door came in. I sent my contractor to pick it up. My contractor got it to my house and he realized the in-swing was ordered as left hand instead of right hand. I called Gary who said that's what I ordered. He checked his paperwork, and agreed to order another door. 3 more weeks later, the new door came in w/o the deadbolt strike drilled out. Again I called Gary. He said it should have been drilled. Come to find out, he didn't order it. I called Reeb's Service Dept. and Reeb's Territory Sales Mgr. I was informed the deadbolt strike has to be ordered by the retailer, Diamond Lumber. Reeb said they would send their service person to drill it if Gary agreed to pay for it and provide a PO. Gary refused to take my calls today to make good on it. Horrible customer service! The employees are serious and hardworking, not nasty, and very willing to be helpful in locating items. The guys who work in the yard are the best. This is an old school lumber-hardware store at its best, this place is so huge its unbelievable! I needed to match a piece of wood trim which no one carried. When I went there I was taken to a building that was 100 yards long and 2 stories tall, and that was the just wood trim! The yard guy looked at my sample and knew exactly where to go, not only did they have what I needed but they had multiple sizes.The price was more than fair. I had similar experiences with other materials for instance, I placed an order for sheet rock, insulation and lumber and had it all delivered, it came on time and I saved money too. I am a land lord and a handy man, not a contractor. We are lucky to have this option in our area. It's a local gem! These are salt of the earth people who know their stuff, you might even have the owner take your order!
