This is my first Yelp review ever. 1 star out 5. In school that's an F. Why? Let me count the ways... 1. Very bad communication between the people who provide estimates and the people who do the work of installation. (This is on Oahu in Hawaii.) Both crews that came to our house agreed with this assessment (they complained about bad communication too). When they arrived, neither crew knew what was supposed to be done in our kitchen (especially regarding the framing and installation of two windows). The communication between people at DH is breathtakingly bad, and this creates serious problems for customers. 2. After the slick sales pitch (one of the smoothest I have ever experienced), there was bad communication between the company and us, the customers. Unreturned calls, unfulfilled promises, etc. When you sign a contract and then the service suddenly gets worse, what should you conclude? 3. We signed a contract for tempered glass for two patio windows, but tempered glass was not delivered. There was no explanation or apology. Now we must wait 8-10 weeks more for delivery of that. So it goes. 4. When untempered glass was installed in the patio windows, the crew did not check to see what would happen when the patio door closes. Answer: it would shatter the new glass just installed. Only because I closed the door very carefully did the glass not shatter. I pointed this out to the crew just as they were leaving the premises. The solution: put a towel down on the floor to cushion the door before it hits the window. This installation was careless. It is a basic safety issue. Does DH care about safety? 5. One crew member had a bad attitude. He left in a huff the second morning when I told him that #4 (above) amounts to negligence (which is defined as "the failure to exercise reasonable care"). There was no apology, no remorse, no "yes, we were lucky." Just anger that I pointed this out. 6. The first crew on site refused to fix the door-would-shatter-the-glass problem. "That's your job" they said. Wow. Unbelievable. Only after I called a DH general manager did a partial fix get done (it took perhaps 10 minutes). Then the first crew left at 9:30 AM despite fine weather until 4:00 PM. Too angry to continue working. So we waited three more days to get the last two windows installed by a different crew. Eventually, the second crew inspected the first crew's fix and said it is inadequate. According to the second crew, if the patio door is shut hard, the (untempered) glass could still shatter. We are left to fix this ourselves. As of this writing, a hard wind or a strong door slam could shatter the glass. I am sensing a pattern here: is DH cavalier about fundamental safety issues? 7. The first crew purchased fir wood to use in a cedar kitchen. Huh? The second crew said "of course you don't want that." Thankfully, the second crew used cedar to frame the kitchen windows. 8. We were told we would be charged $50/hour for the framing work the DH crew performed -- that is, were were told the rate is $50/hour for the whole 2-person crew to prepare kitchen windows for installation. But we were charged double that, so that this labor fee turned out to be $700 instead of $350 (on top of the original $8000 bill for 6 windows). There were no apologies for what feels like a bait-and-switch, and there were no explanations either. There was just an insistence that we pay double what we were told. Come on DH, can't you do better than this? 9. The best thing about this experience was the second crew: John and Wes. They worked hard, did what we asked (except for the pay part described in #8, above), and (so far it seems) their work looks solid. They were nice guys too. This review is LONG overdue...three years, to be exact...but it was intentional to give myself time to use their product and be able to speak to its durability and performance. Let me first say that Mark McKinstry and his team are TOP NOTCH! When we bought our house in the Salt Lake area three years ago, the existing windows desperately needed replacing. Fortunately we purchased right around the BIA Home Building & Remodeling Show at the Blaisdell so my wife and I went there specifically to peruse and talk to window companies. From seeing their TV and newspaper ads, we had two vendors in mind: Discount Windows & Doors and Diamond Head Windows. After visiting both company's booths, seeing their products and talking with their sales staff, we decided to schedule a free estimate with both. When Mark came to our house, he was on-time, pleasant and professional. I was upfront with my budget and he didn't laugh or even flinch. Instead, he did everything he could to get us set up with the windows we needed without necessarily selling us a lower-quality line of windows. He offered us the BIA promo discount and a few other manufacturer and store discounts and was able to give us a full set of Simonton windows, installed, within the budget provided. When it was time to schedule installation, his team was responsive in getting us set up with a date. The guys that showed up for the demo/ removal of the old windows and installation of the Simonton windows were all family- a father and his three (?) sons- who coincidentally attend the same church we do. Small world! They were on-time, efficient, safe and professional every step of the way, taking their time to answer my questions, explain the features of the product and show me the proper use and care. They were in and out within the scheduled window and did a great job of cleaning up, something that I am very picky about since I used to install security systems and phone systems myself. Right away, the Simonton double-pane windows made a HUGE difference in cooling our home. They are sturdy and secure, and three years later we haven't had a single issue with them. Overall my family has been VERY pleased with the windows, but what stood out to me most was Mark and his team's candor and professionalism. I genuinely felt Mark was committed to seeing that I got what I wanted and was willing to work with me to make it happen. If you are looking to upgrade the windows or doors in your home, I absolutely recommend giving Mark or Todd McKinstry a call. They will take care of you like family. read more

We originally installed 4 sliding patio doors (double pane self cleaning) in late 2017. Installation was ok, but the trim work was basic,no paint or caulking. Within 1 year, rust appeared, weeping from the corners of the vinyl frame. Keep in mind that these doors are installed within 30 feet of the marina and are subject to heavy salt air spray. Initially service had been poor with long wait times for any kind of response and even longer wait times for someone to show up. Once I needed a screen repair and it took several months, but they finally got it done. The second time I called for assistance regarding the "rust weeping", it took a 1 1/2 months (over the holidays) but I finally received a call back. Surprisingly, Jorge was quite helpful, scheduled an inspection, and assured me that our lifetime warranty was in effect and they would do everything possible to make things right. Jorge visited and inspected the rust weeping and was quite perplexed but guaranteed that the 3 doors affected would be replaced entirely. He reinspected the doors with the manufacturer visiting from California. We appreciated the amount of attention and concern that was given to our problem. It appears that a very small 1/4" back up plate used in the frame, was the culprit, and that an assembler at the plant had mistakenly used a plain steel back up rather than a stainless back up. Since the white vinyl frame had rust stains extending down the length of the door, the manufacturer and DH Windows insisted on providing a complete replacement and installation. Needless to say, we were quite happy with the decision to replace our doors and we were also told that our lifetime warranty remained in effect for all of the doors we had installed. We were able to help the manufacturer identify a supplier oversight, and through heightened QA inspection levels, this problem should never be repeated. DH Windows and Doors has honored their life-time warranty with outstanding care and service, which as a consumer, I find extremely rare these days. I give them 5 out of 5 stars. read more

I had a great first impression with this company and have recommended them to friends and family and actually was motivating To write a review on Yelp. As a former BBB executive I was not accustomed to using Yelp as was more familiar with relying on BBB websites and reviews to rely on trustworthy companies. Well first of all this company is a BBB trustworthy company so that good but in addition to that; they truly are a good company. Like I said my first impression was great, but the mark of an exceptional company is when things don't go as planned. After a couple of days, and the honeymoon of my new windows wore off, I notice a slight strip of tint on the edge of the window that wasn't there. I called Bruce Allie and asked if it was something I just needed to clean better and he immediately informed me that it is a manufactured defect and that he will order a new window immediately and call me with the details of delivery and installment dates. Just like the first time, he was on it like peanut to jelly and my delivery date was set. And then my windows came in and my installation date was set. Today, Bruce called and said the installers would be fifteen minutes late and they came as expected with Bruce right around the corner to make sure everything was ok. John Rice and Eric were awesome. I took my little ones in another room to nap so they could work safely but I could still hear them talking and working. I'm not sure if they knew I could hear them. What I heard were two gentlemen ; one teaching (John) and one eagerly listening and learning (Eric). You could tell both men had respect for each other. "I can't recommend Diamondhead windows and doors highly enough. Bryan helped with our new windows, and he made the entire process clear and straightforward. He met with my husband and I for an hour and a half at our meeting taking us through the entire window-buying process and all the different steps involved, discussed what kind of windows we were looking for and what prices, and asked us about our expectations and interests as far as timeline and financial parameters. At first we were looking casually, and at no point did we ever feel rushed or pressured by Bryan to be looking more or to be putting down offers -- he completely let us go at our own pace and followed our lead. What really impressed me though is that once we were ready to seriously for a new windows and doors we were in constant communication and he was always responsive to our emails/texts/calls, and never tired of our questions. He helped us determine what the best offer prices would be, what would be a competitive offer or not, what all the different contingency options could be and the pros/cons of each one, etc. He knows his business backwards and forwards, has extensive contacts of inspectors, contractors, etc., we got a great deal -- which so rarely happens in this market right now! Our back sliding glass door was old, bent, and constantly falling off the track. We had a few companies come out and give us estimates for the door, and asked them each to throw in an estimate for replacing ALL the other windows in the house, just for fun because there was no way we could afford that. To our surprise, the quote we got from Diamond Head Windows and Doors was within our budget! The estimator, Neal, had samples, pamphlets, and even did a demonstration to show us how their windows would cut down on heat transfer and UV rays into our house. That was huge for us since we just installed a split a/c unit and I had been holding off on replacing pictures on our walls because the sun just fades everything so fast. In addition, he was able to change one split picture window into a single pane picture window. It's not a cheap renovation by any means, but all things considered, we decided it would be a great investment, and we were right. I love our new windows. They are beautiful and the house is significantly cooler. Also, The new door and windows offer way more security than our old jalousies and flimsy hook-lock handle sliding door. Brian came in after Neal to get everything arranged and do final measurements. The installers David Karratti, Kahoalii Karratti, and Isaiah Tavares arrived on installation day at 8am sharp. They worked diligently and neatly throughout the day and within a few hours my house was transformed. My girlfriend (the one who showed me how to use Yelp and is way brighter than me) got her patio door replaced a couple years back by these guys. I've only known her for the last year so her ravings are all second hand. Anyway, she got a vinyl door made by Amerimax. Still mentions about how clean and courteous the installing guys were. I figured they were probably just real cute. She was single then. Well, that thing slid so much better than my awful aluminum patio door that I finally thought "what the heck" and called Mark at Diamond Head Windows to come give me a bid. Mark was not model cute (don't get me wrong, he was fine looking for an older dude; her standards are high; not sure how I fit in to her plan; she tells me she doesn't know either) but he was sure nice and helpful and had a sharp pencil. I got a such a sweet deal on the door I decided to do the rest of the mangy windows. They needed to go too. Big time! Mark explained all of the process, another guy came out to measure (can't remember his name; he had a measuring tape though), they ordered the windows from the California factory, they packed them up when they were all built, shipped them to Hawaii, and called me to set up putting them in. The crew was clean and courteous and had the dang job done in just one day! I don't have a ton of windows but ... freakin' amazing! Now it's quieter and cooler all the time in my island casa. We had our windows installed about 6 months ago. We were very impressed with your operation. Dave did a perfect job with his measurements and Mark with his salesmanship and editing the invoice to my liking. Installers Stan and his team of Kona and Brandon were professional, prompt, diligent and courteous. The installation was perfect while keeping work areas clean. Stan directed his team well and kept us informed of the work, like asking us to confirm the orientation of sliding windows before proceeding. He performed a final walk through informing us of the operation of the windows. The cleanup truck came promptly at the end of their shift to pick up the rubbish. The entire house completed in two days! After six months we are very pleased with the craftsmanship. The product is well made, aesthetically pleasing and easy to handle. We did recently have a sliding door weather strip that loosened and was affecting operation of the screen door. We called for an appointment and the repair was set for the next day. John came ahead of the scheduled appointment time. He fastened the strip and got the sliding door back in place, courteously explaining what he was doing as he repaired it and briefly explaining the warranty. Best of all, the repair was free of charge in accordance with the warranty. Please commend your team for a job well done! read more

Diamond Head Windows & Doors recently installed 4 large plate glass windows as a major feature of my family room, replacing old panels that had become cloudy with age. I could not be more pleased with how the project was planned and executed. One phone call and I had an appointment the next day at my house to review the project and discuss options. I was given a very fair quote with discounts that matched their ads. I committed on the spot, made a modest down payment and scheduled a technician to come out the next day to take precise measurements for a perfect fit. I was given an estimated arrival date since the windows were to be made by a mainland manufacturer, The windows arrived well within the estimated time and an installation date was set quickly thereafter. The installers arrived on time, totally prepared and went right to work. The demolition of the old windows, the installation of the new panels and the clean-up went perfectly. All debris was removed, the area inside and outside was vacuumed and a company inspector arrived to check the work and determine my level of satisfaction. Truly, I could not have been more pleased since the whole process exceeded my expectations. We had the BEST experience with Diamond Head Windows and Doors!! I was initially quoted by several companies (Renewal by Andersen and Window World) and ultimately chose Diamond Head Windows and Doors after speaking with Mark about the quality of their product, their process in production and their included lifetime warranty. Every step of the process was simple and taken care of efficiently, Marissa in the office was a pleasure to work with, Maka came out to do the final measurements and was excellent and very knowledgable but the cherry on top was our installation crew. Pa'amai, Sefo, Grant and Nate got the job done in 1 day instead of the 2 we were quoted, and their workmanship and attention to detail was perfection. The windows make such a huge difference in the aesthetic of our home's exterior (upgraded from jalosies) and do such a great job letting in light and blocking out road noise (our house is located on farrington hwy in maili) We couldn't be happier with the install team-they did a wonderful job, they went above and beyond, caulking the extra gaps we had around our window frame even though we didn't pay for the window trim and they cleaned up the whole house after including moving our furniture back into position!! "I got three quotes on these windows and Diamond Head Windows and Doors was the absolute bottom price! They were using the exact same product with the exact same lead time as all three. They have their own installation company so they were able to provide me with a price that included delivery installation and take away of the old product. The windows came in a month early and they installed them in 2 and a half days. The product has a lifetime warranty . The windows are absolutely, spectacularly gorgeous! And the crew that came out was so high integrity and high work ethic that I was also astonished with them. You don't run into that very often anymore. I am just old enough to remember when people stood behind their products and cared about their clients. Diamond Head Windows and Doors is a company like that. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a low stress experience with a high stress project. The foreman I worked with was Stan and his two coworkers were Kona and Brandon. On Feb 10, 2023, I had four new windows installed in my Ocean Pointe home in Ewa Beach. The old windows had all failed miserably as most windows have out here. Paamai and Grant arrived ahead of the scheduled time and went right to work. They were courteous and very meticulous about doing the job right. Whenever they came in the house from outside, they removed their shoes. All cutting was down outside in order to keep my house clean. They vacuumed up when they were done and I commented that my house looked cleaner than when they arrived. They took time to answer all my questions and sincerely wanted to make sure I was satisfied. They went over each individual window with me at the end of the installation which I found to be quite impressive. All of my questions and concerns were promptly dealt with. The product seems really good and the lifetime warranty on both product and labor is what I wanted. My old windows looked terrible and the new ones are so much cooler and easy to open. We needed new windows for our home and decided on Diamond Head Windows. The windows were installed in August and we have been enjoying them since that time. They are absolutely wonderful windows! There are many reasons for this: firstly they are wonderful to look at, secondly they are state-of-the-art, they are a perfect fit for our old house, thirdly, the security feature of the windows is a huge plus as it allows us to leave them open for circulation, but they have a lock which when pushed up guarantees that the windows cannot be opened, this is a huge plus because it is a security features that simply other windows do NOT have. Fourthly, the glass is special, it would take a sledge hammer to break through them. In addition to the above, the windows and screens can be easily pulled down and/or pulled out for very easy cleaning. The decision to install these windows was one of the best decisions of my life. The house is now much better looking, it now has a higher re-sale value, and we are enjoying them every single day. read more

During the recent heavy rains two weeks ago, water leaked through a crack from an outside window frame. The water caused some damage to my TV and the blinds in the room. I had called Diamond Head Windows (where I had purchased my windows) and John arrived the very next day to examine the outside window frame. Since my house is two stories high, he climbed using a ladder to the second floor and was able to chalk the crack in the boards around the window frame. It was not the window that was leaking but a crack in the board that caused water to leak in the house. John from Diamond Head Windows was very helpful in trying to temporarily solve the problem and recommended what needs to be done in the future to the outside of the house. I am so thankful for John and I highly recommend the professionalism of this terrific company. Before leaving, he guaranteed us that anything we do find wrong with their windows, to give them a call. Just before Christmas 2014, Mark came out and wrote up our order. Todd came out and measured for the new windows & doors AND helped us modify the original order per our request. (Seven windows and two patio doors.) He also told us it would be 10-12 weeks before our windows would be ready to be installed. (Manufactured in Calif. and shipped to Honolulu.) We called a couple of times checking on the schedule and were assured everything was fine and on schedule (even with the dock strike). George called the first week of April 2015 to set an installation date. George and his two-man crew (Roger & Chet) showed up on time with all the windows & doors. We were told it would take two - three days to complete the installation (they finished in two days). The crew was very professional, conscientious, and considerate and cleaned up the job-site as they went and at the end of the job. We are now ready for George to come back and show us how to wash our new windows. Well done!! read more
