We made reservations a month in advance to dine here in April and getting here was a mission on its own. You just got to love LA traffic -_-. Bear in mind that the reservation is for a 2 hour dine in window. We got here about 10 mins late but the host still allowed us to dine in with the understanding that the 10 min did count against our 2 hour dining reservation window. Overall the service, decor, food, and cocktails were great. The music was played quite loud so you do have to shout a bit to have a conservation with those at your table. I agree with the other yelpers that the prices are quite pricey for the type of dishes you're getting. The vibes here were great and I would recommend trying it out if anyone is in the area. However it seems that it's now temporarily closed and their website is down. So hopefully they'll reopen soon. read more

I came to DiDi's for Tue's Aries Babies Birthday Brunch for her birthday and to celebrate my birthday too, of course! Coming from the Bay Area as a fan, I was very excited but I was honestly disappointed *broken heart* I initially expected a special menu with the requested title I submitted when purchasing our brunch tickets/reservation, but the menus were all the same and had no personalization. Nobody greeted me for my birthday :( What's the point of listing notes on a reservation if they will not be considered?.. DiDi's is a gorgeous restaurant! I love the decor and the aesthetic from top to bottom- you can tell that every detail was intentional and well thought out. Loved the vibess, with DJ Musubi (from the Bay) spinning all the throwbacks! We came around 12pm and although there was plenty of space, we were seated at a booth sandwiched between two other 2 tops. Probably the worst table in my opinion.. I truly appreciated the generous offerings of all the appetizers and 2 entrees included in the brunch menu! But the portions were more for one person vs two people. Hamachi Crudo: 4/5 The hamachi was fresh and the dressing was light. I wish the ratio of the rice crackers and fish was more balanced. Hoisin Meatballs: 2.5/5 Hoisin sauce was overwhelming and didn't seem to have any additional flavoring. Shrimp Toast: 3/5 Very oily, that the oil overpowered any shrimp Veggie Spring Rolls: 3/5 I appreciated the mushrooms were seasoned and cooked well but the peanut sauce was very plain and bland. Fruit Salad: 2/5 fresh fruit and some veggies.. accompanied with chile sauce that was simple like sweet and sour chili sauce in a jar. Hot Sesame Noodles with Short Rib: 4/5 Short rib braised well and the noodles had a chewy but enjoyable texture. The flavors felt more like szechuan spices. I loved the noodles the most. Viet Eggs Benedict: 3.5/5 The hollandaise was very thick and peppery. The toast was a little burnt and hard to cut through. The flavor profiles of Vietnamese cuisine that were promised were not delivered and weren't hittinggg for us.. I am a sucker for cute spots to go to with my gf's for cute photos and delicious food! The service was quick and attentive but as a restaurant that is very much advertised on social media, it did not really live up to it. It is very dark in there (kinda like Cheesecake Factory) and the tables are so uncomfortably close to the other parties. Taking our photo of food without flash was impossible and made it so awkward having to flash the parties around us. Luckily we came very early so we were able to move to a spot closer to the edge so we weren't in anyone's business. Everything was fairly good but growing up with these traditional dishes, I feel like the flavor was not as emphasized. The desserts were the star of the show as it was something we've never had before. Tried the Dine LA menu. Place is super crowded and small. They first sat us at the small table by the bar/waiting area. We asked to be moved to another spot. There's just people standing next to our table and it was awkward! Started with our mocktail drinks - Vung Tau Breeze- which tasted amazing. Had coconut, Pandan, jasmine tea and sweet condensed milk. Only thing is that service was horrible and drinks came after we were done with our entree. For appetizers, we had the Mama do Buns and Chicken Wonton. Both were delicious. For entrees, we got Bo Kho and sweet and sour duck. The sweet and sour duck was so dry that I had to dip it in my Bo Kho. Fried rice it came with was sooooo oily. I had to drain the oil onto my plate to finish the rice and there was more oil. I'm not fascinated with the food bc I can get better Asian Vietnamese/Chinese food from the SGV. I will say that the desserts were probably the best things on the menu. Had Cookies and milk and the milk was a coconut pudding that was comparable to melo melo. Mango sorbet was also refreshing and delicious. Would I come back again? Probably not...don't think the vibe really fits my style. Booked DiDi's WeHo for pre dinner with my partner on Valentines Day. They had amazing specials promoted on Instagram so had to check it out and wasn't disappointed. Booked for 6pm when they opened, but traffic was crazy so didn't get there until 6:25 but was still seated and had no problems. The hosts and wait staff were super friendly and understanding and everyone wished us a happy anniversary as well (since we celebrated both Valentine's Day and our anniversary). They have Valet Parking but street parking would have been hard to find! ($15 cash only for Valet). We immediately ordered their specialty dishes (Hanoi Fish and Truffle Dumplings) and their Valentine's Day drink, Love Thing, and weren't disappointed! They also had a Tiramisu that we skipped as we had another dinner to go to, but it looked super good and creamy as well. It wasn't busy when we got there but without a reservation, only bar top would be available so I highly recommend getting a ressie. Super romantic and perfect for a date night. We wrapped up with a Ca Fee All Day (espresso martini) and Dirty Martini before heading to our next ressie. Absolutely loved the experience and would definitely come back. Love the idea of elevated Vietnamese food. I liked all the dishes I had, the standout definitely being the shrimp toast, but the flavors were perhaps a bit stronger and saucier than I am used to. Maybe this was done on purpose as the modern twist? Or to pair better with cocktails? The decor and 90s music were great, but the lighting was definitely on the darker side, making it difficult to see the menu and food. The 2 ppl seating area was also really close together, which made it a little awkward to respect the personal space of other date nighters. Super cute restaurant in WeHo that is ideal for a date or a girls night. The ambience and overall feel of the restaurant is pretty, elevated and cozy with a small bar and a very nice bathroom. The dishes I ordered were perfect for two people to share and there is some variety to the food for people unfamiliar with Vietnamese cuisine. Also loved the cocktail recommended by my server! I didn't know what to think of this restaurant. My friend invited me for her birthday dinner, but it actually was a great time. They have a DJ all weekend and they put us in sort of a private room. I love how the lighting is dim and all the beautiful colors. Our waiter was so nice, so welcoming, so energetic. He really made us have a good time. The food is absolutely delicious and I underestimated the tiger shrimp. It was so crispy and flavorful and huge. I love the crispy fried chicken flavorful pasta as well. The bao buns are my favorite. A sort of barbecue yet sweet sauce. It is very delicate. I definitely would go back here when they have their DJ. The decor and space is gorgeous and you could tell there was a lot of thought put into it. I had heard about it through my cousin who told me it's owned by Tue (alias Twaydabae on IG). The cuisine is a modern twist on traditional Vietnamese food. We ordered to share: chicken wings, tomato and peach salad, garlic crab noodles, and sweet and sour duck over green papaya salad with a side of jasmine rice. Chicken wings were marinated with fish sauce which is always a hit with my cousin and I. The tomato and peach salad was so refreshing--so glad we ordered this. The garlic crab noodles were good but nothing spectacular so probably wouldn't order again. The duck was very flavorful, hence having it with rice was a good choice. For dessert we got mango rice pudding. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not because it was not what I expected. There's texture of the brittle and then dulce de leche had a hint of corn essence. It was interesting for sure. Overall, the bill was expensive so not likely to visit very often. I was surprised to see the place pretty empty but I guess I typically wouldn't go to a Viet fine dining place. DiDi was a 3.5 for me, but rounding up to four just because they didn't do anything wrong, per se. Our hostess was gracious and pleasant, despite us showing up a bit earlier than our reservation. It wasn't very busy, it wasn't a problem, but still, I've been places where there's always a bit of attitude if everything doesn't land perfectly, and she was not like that at all. Quite pleasant. The atmosphere was funky, not what I was expecting, a lot of color, a lot of patterns. I dug it. The music wasn't typical upscale Vietnamese dining either - it was rather hip hop - but that was cool. Also a fun surprise. Our server was nice, and made a few suggestions. Everything was good, but like B or B+ good, nothing completely blew us away. The vegetable spring rolls were very fresh, wonderfully assembled, but were missing some "pop" as the sauces were conventional. Fine. Just nothing unique that made them stand out from the cheap rolls at a hole in the wall. The fried prawns were huge, probably my favorite dish. Again, they would have benefitted from an amazing sauce, which wasn't quite all there. The garlic crab noodles were kind of basic, the crab a bit sparse, the flavors rather mild. The DiDi fried rice, however, was quite good, and a nice portion size, it really pulled the meal together well. The people are friendly, the ambiance fun, the vibes good, the cocktails were tasty. Had dinner at this upscale Vietnamese restaurant in WeHo and it was definitely an experience! The restaurant was beautiful, and it was dimly lit and intimate. Since we went on a Friday night, it was busy and loud, but the R&B music was a good vibe. All of the food we had was flavorful and tasty, though I do wish that the portions were larger for the price that we paid. For about nine dishes (including dessert) and a few drinks, the total was over $400. DRINKS -Nha Trang Beach Club: Oh boy this was extremely strong (but I didn't mind!). It comes with some grass jelly at the bottom too and it's one of the sweeter drinks on the menu. APPS -Honey Glazed Tiger Prawns: a good crunch to it and the flavor was great, but for 5 people it wasn't enough (as expected) -Chicken Wings: I'm a fan of fish-sauce, so I actually enjoyed this. Also was crispy so I liked the texture. If I recall correctly there were 3 pieces. SALADS -Shaking Beef (Bò Lúc Lắc): probably one of my favorite dishes of the night, considering I'm a big Bò Lúc Lắc fan. The meat was tender and the sauce was fantastic, pairing well with the acidity of the small tomatoes and the greens. Could be considered salty, but my palette tends to favor saltier dishes anyway NOODLES + RICE -Hot Sesame Noodles: the knife-cut noodles were also a standout, and I liked the taste of them. I wanted to take the rest of the leftovers for this home but was unable to before the waiter snatched it away from our table. -Didi Fried Rice: Good but it's usually difficult to mess up fried rice. ENTREES -Vegetable Coconut Curry: This was okay. I am usually a fan of coconut curry, but it didn't stand out to me in comparison to the two other entrees we got. -Lemongrass Pork Belly: Another case of too small of a portion for a group of 5 (but we figured it would be like that). However, the pork belly was delicious and a friend described it as "melting in your mouth". Take that as you will. -Crispy Hainan Chicken: Pretty sizable portion, so I was surprised. Comes with two different sauces (a sweet chili one and then a ginger scallion sauce), but it was still pretty great on its own. They delivered on the crisp of the chicken, and I also enjoyed this dish as well. DESSERT -Creme Brulee: A bit disappointed as a big creme brulee fan. I've had better, and bigger. Service was a toss-up; our personal waitress was nice and was even able to memorize our order without writing it down, but each time we were remotely close to the next course, our dishes would get cleared by another waiter so quickly without really even checking on if we were finished with it or not. We found out later that the restaurant turns into a club-esque place on Fridays, so perhaps that's why they were trying to be quicker with the dinner service. Even if that might have been the case, we were not aware nor were we informed about that so overall it felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant that we paid good money to dine at. This place is a vibe with great Vietnamese food. As soon as you step into the restaurant you feel like you're in a totally different tucked away place and not a busy street in WeHo. I believe this turns into an after hours lounge type spot at some point in the evening. But it was SO DARK when I went to dinner with my family at 6PM that we literally had to use the flashlights on our phones to read the menu. Our service was excellent and very attentive. Everything is served family style, so plan to order all at once so they can pace your meal out so everything comes out hot. Our friend from out of town was super excited to dine at DiDi, having followed Tway Da Bae on social media for a while. We made reservations for a Saturday night. There's valet parking available but there's plenty of street parking nearby. The vibe of the restaurant is really cute with a retro twist, and the music was great with 2000s R&B throwbacks. We asked for cocktail and food recommendations right away. Interestingly, many of the food recs leaned more Chinese-inspired rather than Vietnamese. We got the Lychee Martini, Ca Phe All Day, and DiDi Dynamite which were all hits. The Saigon Smash and Sour Sop Swig were a bit underwhelming in flavor. Food wise, we got the Hamachi Crudo (fresh and well-executed), Shaken Beef Salad (definitely needed more citrus to brighten it up), Tamarind BBQ Ribs (one of the stars of the night with great flavor), Crab Fried Rice (not bad), Lemongrass Pork Belly (kind of a miss). Honestly the pho spices on the beef carpaccio is a little genius because it made it to one of the top dishes I've ever eaten! But to be honest I felt all the other dishes were so so. For an entree we got the crab fried rice, pork belly, and the hot sesame noodles plus green beans on the side. Everything was good but not that amazing for the price. For this type of food I feel there are more authentic and affordable spots for the dishes that were offered. The only dessert I liked was the coconut pineapple butter cake which was very delicious. The wings were crispy and were cooked well but overall was lacking in flavor Crispy green beans- these were just ok. They actually felt a bit salty for me and kind of just tasted like it was just blanched and slathered in chili crunch Garlic crab noodles- it has a good crab flavor but the noodles were a bit on the soggy side Crispy Hainan chicken- I really wanted to like this but this did not taste anywhere close to a Hainan chicken. The rice was not flavored, and the chili sauce and ginger scallion sauce did not deliver. The chicken was cooked well and was crispy but it just tasted like popcorn chicken. Every detail is thought of done well. Seriously a sight to behold; the only thing that wasn't perfect was a near broken door handle in the bathroom. We loved the retro East Asian boho vibes! Next up is the service. Solid and attentive, not necessarily the most friendly. That's fine. Wait staff are wearing fire Tombolo shirts. Most important is the good. The music with the ambiance and food was a little confusing, but I guess it's fusion. After seeing the pictures of the appetizers like Mama Do buns, I decided to skip on those. We ordered 2 drinks, 2 noodle dishes and the crispy spring rolls. The food was good and plates were shareable between 2 people. The tamarind drink was delicious. Staff was friendly. Like others have mentioned, they did come to take our plates away while we were eating which was strange. Overall, it was a 3.5/5 for me. Would I go back? I feel bad for having to rip into them but it's 2025 in WeHo, Asian fusion isn't a new concept, so why the poor execution? Tried to call to modify my reservation bc Resy doesn't seem to allow parties of 3? Phone line is an automated system with a callback service felt mildly inconvenient. Ambiance: 8/10 Nice vibe with Habana/jungle decor and solid R&B music, but it's insanely dark in the front room. If you're taking pics, just commit to using flash. Service: 8/10 Hostesses and servers were friendly, but no one asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. Maybe I'm nitpicking, but at these prices, it'd be nice. Cocktails: 8/10 Tasted great, interesting flavors--but the volume? Laughably small. Ca Phe All Day was a solid espresso martini, but at $19-$20 per drink, I'd like to at least feel something. Food: 1/10 This was honestly embarrassing. It's one thing to be an expensive Asian fusion spot--it's another to be downright bad. If this were someone's introduction to Vietnamese food, I'd feel ashamed. We ordered everything on the DineLA menu plus the spring rolls. Most of it was disappointing, but here were the worst offenders: Chicken Wontons - Thick, doughy wrappers, poorly executed. Mama Do Buns - Overcooked, dry pork--completely unappetizing. Bo Kho - Overloaded with cloves and anise, served with two slices of burnt charcuterie toast (seriously?), a sad excuse for a "baguette." Vegetable Coconut Curry - Cold, barely 2 cm of curry on a plate with a few bell peppers. That said, the curry did taste good. Pineapple Butter Cake - The idea was there, but the execution? Terrible. Tasted burnt and bitter, couldn't finish. Actually had an initial look of confusion on the first bite. Cookies and milk - imho, competing sweetness between coconut che pudding and chocolate chip cookies threw out any contrast attempt. Did not make a good pairing but would be fine separately. Redeeming Dishes Curry Noodles - Actually fire. Think fettuccine Alfredo meets curry/tom yum--great for a rainy day. Fried Rice - Surprisingly good, not your typical fried rice. Sweet & Sour Duck - Duck was cooked well, nice crispy texture. Final Thoughts Won't be coming back, and I can't recommend it. They have lot of tables inside and some semi-circular booths. Dim lighting, date night vibes. Let's talk food! Honey glazed tiger prawns were great, really loved those, they were standout. Hamachi crudo was pretty good, a very small bite. Shrimp spring rolls were just meh, I would pass on these. They taste like any other subpar spring roll and not worth the price. My friend and I are fans of TwayDaBae's You-Tube channel so when we heard she opened a restaurant in LA, we had it on the bookmarks to visit. This location is on the same block as Barton Gs and Nobu. I'm happy for Tway. There was valet parking, but we came early and got lucky with metered street parking nearby. The restaurant had very Vietnamese vibes. I would classify them as an upscale modern Vietnamese experience with Tway's innovative twists. The meals are meant to be family style so my friend and I shared an appetizer and 2 entrees: Honey Glazed Tiger Prawns ($25), Crispy Hainan Chicken ($40), and Charcoal Grilled Ribeye ($51). My friend was my lovely designated driver so I got to indulge in a cocktail. I went with their Nha Trang Beach Club ($19). This is one of those things where there was probably too much going on with the drink that they took away from each other. It had ketel one vodka, crème de peche, cherry, lemon, lychee, grass jelly, crushed ice, and served with a boba straw. I couldn't really taste anything well and I would have liked more grass jelly. I really wanted to like it but I didn't. I just drank it to be polite. The honey glazed tiger prawns came out first. It had a nice crispy crusted exterior. The tail had a nice crispy crunch. Probably my favorite thing we ate for the night. The entrees came out together. The ribeye came medium rare as we want but the novelty of the grill continued to cook it as you sit there. It came with a warm watercrest salad, but both were so salty it felt like eating salt on salt. And as tender as it was there was nothing special to me about the ribeye. The Hainan chicken had a nice batter crust on it. The highlight of the dish for me was definitely THE SAUCES. I can eat them with anything, especially the ginger sauce. However the rice was a let down being dry and lacking the poached chicken flavor from other Hainan rice restaurants. Service was really nice and they offered a complimentary birthday dessert, in which I opted for the Vietnamese Coffee Crème Brulee ($14 value). I'm not sure why but this took foreverrrrrrrr to come out. The flavor was nice but the texture was strange and lumpy. Was it overcooked? Was it a bad batch? Not sure. Not holding it against them since it was a complimentary gesture. I enjoyed our visit and it felt like a novelty indulgence but I'm not convinced this is somewhere I would frequent. On thing I hate about dining in LA - there is a 4% entertainment fee to ensure fair compensation and medical benefits to their employees. After hearing the hype for Di Di on social media, I definitely wanted to check it out while in LA. You can reserve a table online, which I'd recommend. The decor of the restaurant was beautiful! Loved all the throwback music playing throughout the night. When we first arrived around 7 on a Saturday, the noise level was nice, but as the night moves on, be prepared for it to definitely go up (in case you're looking for a quieter restaurant). Service was great, and I really loved my drinks with the Tropic Thunder and Ca Phe All Day. However, when it came to the food, nothing completely wowed me to where I'd tell all my friends and family to come out and try it. We ordered the Honey glazed tiger prawns, chicken wings, and garlic crab noodles. The prawns were my favorite of the night. I was excited about the chicken wings, but it was extremely salty. I heard the online buzz about this place but was skeptical as I have rarely found quality "traditional Vietnamese" food in LA, but I ended up liking DiDi a lot more than I had expected. For starters, the ambience was fantastic with great decor and relaxed vibes (4+). The service was a little inconsistent (3+). The waitstaff were all very friendly. Our server was very attentive initially, but that waned as the meal progressed. There was also a huge lag time in between our plates. After they cleared our appetizer and salad, we waited over 30 min before our main plates came out. The food itself was all pretty good (3+). Everything is meant to be shareable. Honey Glazed Tiger Prawns appetizer: you get 4 jumbo-sized prawns that were well marinated with lime and honey glaze, and finished with a nice chili flake crunch. Bo Luc Lac (Shaking Beef) salad: the beef was a little tough and overcooked and there wasn't very much of it. The salad was fresh and the fish sauce vinaigrette was slightly too salty. Lemongrass Pork Belly: nothing too special about this dish. The accompanying herbs were just enough to accent a not-too-flavorful pork belly. Fried Chicken Banh Mi: offered on Tuesdays. This was probably my favorite from the meal. It comes as a full length sub cut in half so a sizeable portion for 2 people. The chicken was juicy and crispy. The greens were fresh and the pickled veggies had the right amount of acidity. Che Thai dessert: a twist on a classic vietnamese dessert that I thoroughly enjoyed. Very very very very cute restaurant and bar. Please check it out once! You will be delighted. But don't have big/high expectations. Enjoy it for what it is but know it's gonna miss some marks. The service is pretty good and everyone is sincerely on their best behavior- love that and rare in weho sometimes. The drinks are fun - and worth trying. This is actually 3.5/5 but going for 4 cause they're trying. The setting is a little off, it's hard to get intimate with 1:1 straight facing scene, but this is ideal for a foursome . The food seems really promising but slightly misses the mark. The shrimp toast is yummy but can be a little too oily, the garlic crab noods (sorry but I disapprove of bucatini use here) didn't do it for me, crispy pork salad was not a good use of pork belly. The price in comparison to portion size is mediocre. The ambience and interior is cute and they were trying to go for dark and fine but it was giving blind and can't really see what your eating kind of vibe. Overall the shrimp was salty. The fried rice was arguable the best yet served in a tiny portion and everything else was only ok. The Mi was soggy and soft nothing crunchy about it, beef in the salad was salty and the portion was so small even though it was only 4 pieces of beef I needed the entire salad to pair. I would most definitely pass on any of the drinks as the are also only ok. Fine viet food definitely doesn't and shouldn't mean small portions and this quality I recommend more authentic places first before you result to fine viet. I was impressed by Di Di! We came to celebrate our friend's birthday/bachelorette and had a great time. It was busy inside, people talking fairly loudly and music playing but we enjoyed the atmosphere on a Friday night. Everything is supposed to be shared family style and for a group of 7 we had to order multiple of some dishes so that everyone try it. This place is expensive, but we knew that coming in. their cocktails are about $20 each, I tried the Saigon smash (gin drink with cucumber) that I really enjoyed. For appetizers, we started with the beef carpaccio, honey glazed tiger prawns, and chicken wings. These were all winners! The chicken wings were big, but also messy because of the sauce on them. We also got the crispy egg rolls, spring rolls, crispy green beans, didi fried rice, crab fried rice, charcoal grilled ribeye, and steamed king fish. For me, I enjoyed the fried rice but I would be okay with trying one of the noodles instead next time. Also, we wanted the whole fried snapper, but unfortunately had ran out by the time we ordered it. The king fish was okay, another item I probably wouldn't order again. Food was good! Ambiance was very cool with a live DJ and service was okay. For food we ordered the honey glazed tiger prawns for appetizers which was suggested by the bartender/our server which started off our whole meal with high expectations, it was amazing. We also ordered some other finger foods at the bar, that was pretty standard and lastly we got the charcoal grilled ribeye. It was really good, but a little salty and the watercress salad never came out with the ribeye until we looked at the menu again and asked if it came with a salad, then the server just noticed it never came out with the dish. We sat at the bar since we were late to our reservation, but I was a little disappointed because I saw a couple open tables, although I cannot complain since I did miss the grace period. I felt like service could have been better though, after placing our order, no one really check up on us, so we had no incentive to want to spend more money. I definitely wanted to try more items, but maybe for another time! Overall, the food is definitely upscale Vietnamese, so expect to pay the price especially in WEHO, but food was good and can be a bit too salty, I would've enjoyed a bowl of white rice just to compliment everything LOL. read more

I had a nice dinner at Di Di, it's good for a group of friends since they serve you "family style" (more on this later) so it's fun to get a few dishes and share among the table. It's a new take on some Vietnamese dishes and they have a good variety of appetizers, starters, and a few main dishes that you can mix and match to make a yummy dinner experience. We started with the shaking beef salad and the crispy egg rolls. Both were delish the egg rolls were filled with pork, shrimp, and veggies and the beef salad came with tender, marinated chunks of filet mignon. Out of the 2 the salad was the standout for me, even the veggies were so fresh and fragrant. I am just not sure about how "family style" these portions were as it felt hard to get enough of each appetizer for a party of 4 especially for $16 egg rolls and a $27 salad. We also ordered the honey glazed tiger prawns but this didn't make it to our table until after the entree as our waiter forgot to make sure that it came for us. It was ok and again, not as shareable as advertised for $25 worth of prawns. The main dish had the wow factor, we got the whole fried snapper. It came with a sweet and sour sauce. What I tasted was good but there was not enough meat on this fish to serve 4 and at $64 I would expect it to comfortably serve 4. I wanted more fish! Although what I tasted was good. It didn't come with rice despite having a lot of sauce and our waiter neglected to bring a serving utensil. Snuggled on the remnants of Restaurant Row which became restaurant row for all the squabbling between the money men and the artistic sensibilities of the kitchens at many of the places on La Cienega (The Swamp) over the years. Enter Chef Tue Nguyen aka Tway Da Bae, make that Tway, da Babe, who delivers). Give the sled to the Valet or you will be hoofing for blocks. You've arrived at the nondescript door. Enter and the kitten cute hostee welcomes you with a Cheshire grin. No expense has been spared on the design. It ain't cheap to look like a Bordello in Saigon in the 30's. The place is absolutely stunning. The decor is lavish and lovely. Graham Greene would be a regular. Me too. The space is classy (silk material on the ceiling), intimate and suitable for the Real Housewives of Da Nang to hang here. The interior set is the star until the food shows up. So, sit back and chill with a chilled Sling. There are tables downstairs near the cool horseshoe Tiki Bar in which there are no quiet Americans. Ask for a table up a short flight of stairs in the two dining rooms. That's the ticket unless you need to be seen and air kiss the remotely familiar dude that may have dated the show runner on the shoot where you were an extra last year. The Bar: Raised high. Full bar, Wine List, and Beer. There are seven signature cocktails. Drink them all. I began with a Nguyen in Rome which had Smith and Cross Rum, Campari, Strawberry, Carpano Bianco (Vermouth), Lemon Juice, and Clarified Milk. It read all wrong and tasted all right. Order two. I followed up with a Tropic Thunder which had Macha infused Vodka, Pureed fresh Coconut, Lime Juice, Thai Basil, and Pandan (a versatile herb with a sweet finish). This came tall and was ice cream headache cold. I would have had two of each but I also wanted to be able to walk to the Valet stand. Driving when you're all dinky dau is not a great idea. The Staff: Enthusiastic, helpful and pleasant, All bright and eager in spiffy embroidered uniforms as if you're dining at the Metropole Sofitel in Hanoi. Keyona was a delight. Buzzed by the decor, drink and diners, I let her curate dinner. Definitely the right play. The Food: Beautiful, playful yet serious just like a magical first date. The Shrimp Toast came with four fingers of Milk Bread, house made Tway Ploy (Sweet Chili Sauce), Shrimp Mayo, and fresh Herbs du jour. The Toasts were terrific. Crunchy, creamy, and slightly spicy. This was just the first dish and I was already carted away by Tway. The Crispy Egg Roll (6) were just that. Romaine Leaves at the ready to wrap up Ground Pork, Shrimp, Mushroom, Mung Beans, Noodles, Tway Ploy, and Fish Sauce. Both first courses made delicious Bar Nibbles to go with your cocktails or be offered on the side table at your Mum's turn to host a Mah Jongg Party. You take a breath and look around. Love and secrets are in the air and coming out of the kitchen. A lovely composed Salad (Di DI's Chopped) came next. Baby Gems, young and fresh Coconut chunks pried out of a coconut by hand (which is no mean feat), diced Mango, and slivers of Red Onion, all awash in a tangy Lime Vinaigrette. It was a tangle of textures, both gently acidic and sweet at the same time and as balanced as a ball on a Seal's nose at Marineland. I could hear it in the distance. "Eat your vegetables" implored my Ba Ngoai. She was right and so was this dish. Next a bowl with Fried Jasmine Rice, Lap Xoung (Chinese Sweet Sausage), crunchy Green Bean bits, and house made Sambal (Spicy Ketchup) appeared and was a perfect stage for a virtuoso performance by the Crispy Lobster Curry with lotsa Lobsta plus fork fulls of Eggplant, Green Beans, Thai Basil, and Peanuts, all covered in a rich deep Coconut Curry Sauce. A cup of that Sauce on it's own would have been sublime. Don't like any of those ingredients? You'll love them all together. Don't not ask for this. And even if you're topped off, have the Pineapple Butter Cake with Coconut Gelato, Rum laced Caramel, all settled on a bed of Macadamia Crumble for that happy ending. First time dinning at Di Di, and while the inside was quite the beautiful atmosphere, i almost wouldn't have known it was there hadn't it been for the sign. We started with a shared shaking beef salad and thought it was top tier of our order. The dressing wasn't heavy and it was the perfect amount of beef to share with 4 people. I personally loved the crispy egg rolls and thought the lettuce wrap pieces and dipping sauce were a great addition for the dish. It also was in smaller pieces so easily sharable. Our joint favorite and recommended was the whole fried snapper. It was the FULL snapper. We didn't quite know how to break into this for serving, but this was the winner of the meal and definitely earned an extra star. My drink was the tropic thunder, and though i love coconut sweet drinks, the crushed ice really made this drink feel smaller than it could have been. I would ask for very lite ice next time. A little on the upper price side and that made the portions a little off for their "shared plates" vibe. I'd still recommend this restaurant if you wanted something different with your Vietnamese flair. Just be expecting to maybe order more. I am soooo sad. I was so excited to try this restaurant! We drove up from San Diego and this was one spot I needed to go to. Everything we got in the photos was either too salty or too soggy :( We actually had to send the wings back because it was too salty to even eat. I am Asian and I feel like the Asian food here was a bit white washed if I must say. I thought I was going to eat authentic Vietnamese dishes and this was not it. I do want to say the service was amazing and when we told the server about the chicken she took it off the bill right away. The ambiance is beautiful!
