How DHL even stays in business in the US is beyond my comprehension. It might be thriving in Europe, but customer service in the US is terrible! I expressed shipped the order online and because the merchant decided this was the best merchant to do that job...I was unfortunately left to go on a wild goose chase. Apparently, the carrier won't leave the item at your doorsteps, even if you live in a safe, gated neighborhood and have never had an issue with stolen packages. You have to be there IN PERSON to sign it. Oh, and not to mention...they won't give you a specified time. Instead, they give you a range of like 8 AM to 5 PM. So, you're telling me I have to take a day off of work to retrieve my package? So, a simple solution to that would be to change it to my work address, right? For other carriers, I have been able to change the address to my work one. But, oh, no...not with DHL. Once you've specified the address, it's apparently written in stones, and that's the only address they'll deliver to and will only give you the package once you're there IN PERSON. Wait, what?! I know, I was just as mind-blown when I called customer service. Here's the best part...customer service is only opened till 3 PM! So, you can't even call them after work because, you know....they just assume that everyone is just lounging around all day without a day job to care for at all. Oh, and don't even bother trying to pick it up from the location, but that's a no-go for them also. WORST. EXPERIENCE. EVER! My 'expressed' packaged ended up arriving THREE WEEKS later. I had the same experience as GM! I too live in Alameda and had the most difficult time receiving my package. After tracking the package, I was convinced that DHL was not even attempting to deliver the package. After numerous calls to the DHL facility, with no luck in getting a live person, I called the company that shipped my merchandise (AT&T) and they were able to connect me with Lisa at DHL who told me that someone would contact me in 2 hours to let me know when my package would be available for pickup at the Oakland facility. Well...a day later, still no call and no package. I called AT&T again and they connected me again with DHL who apologized for the inconvenience and notified me that DHL was discontinuing their US ground deliveries and that the Oakland facility is the first to close. Well...I was finally able to pick up my package yesterday and all I have to say is I HATE DHL and although I am saddened for those who are losing their jobs...I AM SO GLAD THEY ARE CLOSING!!!!!! read more

DHL = Dumb, Horrible, Liars! (if I could give no stars, I would) The "service" this company provides is so bad it's laughable. My first experience with DHL was in October '07 when I purchased a new DELL computer. From the DHL website, I could tell the computer arrived in their Oakland warehouse in just three days. However, it sat there for over a week. DHL customer service flat-out lied and told me they had attempted delivery but no one was here (I was home, waiting for DHL); then they said they couldn't find the address - it's not difficult, and aren't you a DELIVERY company? Shouldn't finding addresses be your business? Finally, I received my package after spending an entire morning calling both DHL and DELL every hour until it arrived. Unfortunately, in December, an order we placed through eToys was also shipped by DHL. Same story. Website showed item is at Oakland Warehouse on Dec. 14. On December 21, still no package. DHL lies and said they attempted delivery, but no one was here. They promised to deliver ASAP. We ask for an approximate delivery time and they say they can't give one, but will leave package if no one is here. Wait? In your last sentence, you said you COULDN'T leave a package if no one was here .... Wait! it gets better ... December 22. Still no package. DHL person says they won't be delivering today. "But yesterday, you promised" we said. Person says (I'm not joking). It was marked for Special Delivery yesterday, but not today, so we won't be delivering today. AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH. So we get directions and pick up the *&@# package at the Oakland Airport ourselves, only to find the package beat up and the toy broken. Another call to eToys ... they send a replacement with expedited shipping. Website shows it arrived in DHL's warehouse on Dec. 26. It's now January 3 .... still no package. I think the only way to make a difference is to complain to the retailers that are using DHL - refuse to order from DELL or eToys or any other merchant if DHL is your only shipping choice, and make sure they know why! read more

I've honestly never had a good experience with DHL. When they deliver things on time people will talk about it like it's impressive you just avoided death after being shot in a vital organ. Yeah it's that impressive. DHL's biggest problem is the disconnect. Their tracking system seems to lag hours behind the actual real-world activity, and customer service seems to be using the same system. You'll be lucky if you can track down someone who can tell you what's really happening to it. Worse yet, of all the delivery companies they really don't seem to try when it comes to ringing a doorbell or using a callbox. You'll take the day off work just to get a package, and don't be surprised if you never hear a peep from them, despite seeing an attempted delivery notice later on. Maybe one of the most aggravating bits of DHL is that you can't give them a phone number to call because it's not DHL company policy to give their delivery people mobile phones. This means if they're somehow miffed by your call box or door bell, you're totally SOL unless you're standing out on the street, ready to flag them down...which I've heard doesn't work very well. read more

The area that you go to pick up packages is very clean, the staff is very helpful and professional. I had a frustrating thing happen with my package because I was being impatient and kept on changing my delivery options online. The lady who helped me yesterday was very professional and I felt like she went above and beyond to help me find my package. She took a while looking for my package in the warehouse and when she came back out she told me that she looked everywhere for it, and even texted the employee who was on the route where I had my package dropped off. Her thoroughness and awesome customer service made a frustrating experience so much easier. I was able to get my package in good time and everything worked out. read more

Very unprofessional, the driver does not even leave a tag behind. DHL gave some excuse like our drivers are very busy and they don't have time to deliver the notice or that the notice may have blown off the door. Most terrible carrier service ever! This goes hand in hand with amazon uk which I've tried to get answers from them regarding my package and if they're using DHL to get my package here in the US. The estimated delivery date was for the 20th and guess what?! it's the 24th of christmas! I've been pretty much waiting for the last 4 days on this package and have received on notification from them nor from amazon because of the stinking "weather conditions." I ordered this package way the the beginning of the month and even my neighbors, moms, and brother's packages have gotten here from japan, china, and the philippines. What the heck is going on. NEVER NEVER NEVER (as my 3.5 year old would put it) will I EVER use this company. They are the biggest incompetents I have ever experienced. I am still in shock. Here is my story: I was expecting important documents to be delivered to me via Dhl Overnight by 10:30 Monday morning. I waited all day and no one arrived. At around 6pm, I check online again (as I had been doing all day) and it says: 4:57 delivery attempted, recipient not present. I check my front door - no evidence that they had been to my door at all. No note, no tag, nothing. Instantly I get on the phone with customer service and when I ask where my "Overnight by 10:30am" package was, the lady on the phone said, "Oh yes, we are cutting back on domestic delivery." Ummm WHAT??? Just craziness. She then says that she will make sure the local delivery "understands that this is an urgent matter" and gets my package to me immediately. Gosh, I guess shipping Overnight by 10:30 does not send a clear enough message. Sigh. Anyway, so this morning (Tuesday) at 8:30am, I get a call from the Oakland DHL branch. They said I could go pick up the documents and they are being held. I asked if they could deliver them today (it is pouring rain here and rush-hour) and the employee said the "driver was very busy and her truck was full and she may or may NOT get to it today." I've now had two packages mis-delivered by DHL over the past 13 months. One is lost forever--I have no clue where they delivered it, and they didn't care enough to keep good track. I just discovered today that they did it again, this time with something far more expensive and in an area where it's much more likely to be stolen. I left them detailed instructions about where to leave the package. They ignored them. Now they're gonna drag their feet and claim to attempt a retrieval, but they don't care. This is a true horror story of the Bay Area. First, they say the come to deliver packages but I caught them lying and they never showed up. I needed a medical needs pair of shoes and stayed home on a Friday and they never showed up. But I did get a robo call saying they could not get in. Bullshit! I wanted to pick it up Friday afternoon or Saturday and was told they can't do it. It has been an extremely stressful situation dealing with one incompetent clod after another;one customer service rep who was never trained; one alleged supervisor who had no clue how to fix the problem! Just an assortment of incompetent and worthless people! Here's hoping FEDEX or someone else buys them, fires everyone and starts over as this could be their only chance to actually make a difference instead of just making money and existing. The worst Delivery service i have ever used, ever. I paid for their most expensive delivery package with the quickest delivery time only for my package to be bounced around by 2 - 3 different post offices leaving and arriving at the same places for about a week (Delivery was advertised as 1 - 3 Business days) It's so delayed it would have been faster to use a horse and buggy at this point. Not only is the delivery service itself abysmal but the customer service is god awful as well. I called about this on a Friday morning only to be told that i would be contacted by a specialist very soon that day and he 100% would call me then. Needless to say they did not contact me on Friday.. Then i called back about this on Monday morning only to be told again that i would be contacted by a specialist by 3:30 pm only half hour before they close here. It was never delivered. 8 months later they contact us that it's been received in the US, but acting like it's a new shipment, threatening to return it to the shipper if we don't send foreign manufacturer information, etc. like it's a new import to the US. THEY are the shipper so I don't know who they are threatening to send it back to, but they are the absolute worst and I will never use them again. Ever. One of the handful of places to screw us over during our move from LA to Berkeley. We ordered a comcast router for service we would internet working once we got into the new pad. We missed the driver by a few hours and called to have them hold the package. Of course they said no problem. Then we called on Thursday to let them know we would be there to get package on Saturday am. The nice lady said she would hold it. So when we got there Saturday AM, you can imagine the "shock" to learn the same lady we talked to hold the package, mind you she said it's not a problem, told us someone shipped it back to the sender. But she was "very sorry." So now we have to get the thing shipped back to us from whatever DHL spot it is. Then once we get it, it's covered in stickers that say "Hold". Contrary to most reviewers here, I had a great experience with DHL international shipping. I had a very fragile package packed and shipped from Paris, France, and the shipper I dealt with opted for DHL as their carrier. Standard shipping, no special measures. Apparently, my package transited to the UK first, then off to California, in 5 days. I never expected it so fast, actually. Before it even landed at the US customs, I received an automated call from DHL giving me the tracking number and linking me to their web site where I was able to follow blow by blow the departure from London, then L.A then Oakland. (I immediately signed online for the option to get email updates from DHL directly. It worked great.) I actually called their 800 number twice to verify the address of their depot in Oakland, and to tell DHL to not deliver it to my address: I would pick up my package myself -because I am never home. The 2 times, I got very helpful and patient people on the phone. As soon as the DHL site informed me my package had arrived, I drove to their depot (near the Oakland airport ), where a lone DHL employee there was on the ball right away, and nicely helped me carry the box to my car's trunk. The package was in perfect condition. A great experience! True: you never get to call the Oakland depot directly -you always deal with a DHL general call center- but they all gave me the info I needed, and I got perfect service all around. read more

Horrible, horrible, horrible customer service. DHL is the worst delivery firm in the world and the Oakland operation is at the bottom of that barrel. Here's why. We tracked an international shipment and found that it arrived locally just fine. That's when the trouble started. The local delivery arm failed to show the day of the scheduled delivery. Not only that, but the driver filed a report saying he came to our home at 4PM but no one was home. This is factually false. My wife and I were sitting outside on the front porch at that time, no DHL driver was even on the street. Plus, he left no notice that he'd been, and just in case he showed while we were out, we had a signed note authorizing him to leave the package Next day, the dispatcher said she'd message him to make the delivery. We called again twice that day and were told he'd be there by 8PM. The appointed hour arrives and no DHL. Just couldn't be bothered to come by. These guys really suck at what they do. By contrast, UPS delivers to our home almost daily, and FedEx is here pretty frequently, too. No hassles of any kind ever. Again, DHL out of Oakland is a terrible outfit to be avoided at all costs. read more

The tracking on their website says that the package reached Fremont on 2nd day.. but don't know why they did dilivery on 3rd. They Try delivery on 4th day and status gets updated on website that "Not able to deliver since no one at home" . This was not possible as i was home whole day and also i check that there was no door tag. Now i call up and ask them to rediliver. The jokers repeat the same story next day. I am suspecting these guys are trying to manipulate tracking data so that they don't have to return the shipping money due to false delayed shipment.
