I am a resident at 1215 Dexter Apartments Seattle for more than a year now and I have always had help when required. One day some of the switches in our power system dripped and lights and internet went off, I had an important call that day. I rushed to the office below and asked if they could help me, even during the time of COVID-19, they guided me properly as what to do and see if that worked. I told them I would try and call them if it didn't work. I went home, tried what they told me and Viola.. it worked! Thanks to the great team. Also the building is in one of the best locations. The South lake is 5 mins walking. 2 bus stops at 5 mins walking. Great connectivity. Deli, coffee and sandwich shops below the building. Fabulous leasing tour with Halima. She was knowledgable about the facilities and asked questions to focus in on my priorities. While I was talking about how I wanted to feel in my new place, she pivoted and directed me to another type of layout-- one I hadn't thought of but now I'm seriously considering. That's exactly what you want a leasing tour to be: equal parts encyclopedia about the building and an insightful therapy session. Only wish I had had her guidance on all other apartment buildings I've toured this week. P.S. This apartment is literally the WORST. After many months and many complaints about the noisy trash compactor running at night. They finally agreed to turn it off after 10PM so I removed my original review. But not for long. After 4 weeks, everything was back. The trash compactor runs all night long. Every 30 minutes to be exact. This time the building management team don't care for sure. They stopped responding to our emails. They refused to do anything. They refused to release our contract so we can go find another place. They'd charge us penalties if we wanna break the contract. I'm living in HELL at this place. I talked to many people who are living here. They're also complaining but get no response whatsoever. We're living in the WORST HELL. I lived here for 1.5yrs. Overall we had a good experience except for the parking situation and strangers coming in and breaking in to Vehicles (which has gotten worst during covid and other cities not just Seattle). On a positive note, we enjoyed our apartment and never heard our neighbors beyond a little walking around upstairs. The maintenance staff were very good, quick responding to any issues and my dogs loved them . The front desk has been helpful to any of my requests as well. read more

DO NOT COME LIVE HERE AT ALL UNLESS YOU LIKE YOUR STUFF GETTING STOLEN CONSTANTLY.NO SECURITY AT ALL. Do not come live here unless you like getting broken into. In our 2 months living here we have gotten our car window smashed and even got some blood smeared in our car from the break in from their "secure parking garage" that we pay $200 for and also got out (supposedly secure residence storage room) stolen out of which we pay around $50 for per month. We lost more than $1,000 worth of things from our storage that had a lock and you need a key to get into the room, we saw other people's storages had been opened and stolen out of too. We thought we got a good deal since we got the 6 week free special but now we understand it's because the apartments don't spend a dime in updating their security system. Have no working cameras at all so now its becoming a concern how easily could someone just break into an apartment. I try to give every place the benefit of the doubt since there are people that complain about anything and try to bring the ratings of apartments down but this is absolutely insane. Management seems to be very nice and such but there clearly is an issue with upper management wanting to keep these apartments insecure as hell. I would rate them a 0 if I could and it is so sad because we were so excited to move here and to the area but upon being here 2 months we have lost thousands of dollars in things being stolen in one month alone. I've been living at Dexter for over a year now, and have seen a lot of changes throughout my time here- all for the better! There have been a few staff changes, but the current team is absolutely great. They are very attentive to resident's needs and go out of their way to host a lot more resident events than before. Since the previous office staff had a few people that could be a bit...spicy, I wanted to go out of my way to mention that Bryce in particular has been so wonderful to my husband and I, and always goes out of his way to help us when we need anything at all. We had a lot of questions about the move-out procedure and billing, and he put up with us so gracefully. The maintenance team is also so professional. I lived at Dexter Lake Union for two years (June 2020-August 2022). This review isn't to bash Dexter Lake Union but to make you aware. When I moved out of state, I was shocked to receive a final bill for $500+. That bill included $350 for paint. There were black scratch marks on the wall in the closet from my luggage and on the living room wall from my sofa. I didn't try to clean the walls thinking I'd get hit with half my deposit. Boy, was I wrong! I'm still baffled as to why it cost $350 to paint a studio apartment. So, before you move out, try to wash off any marks on the walls. If the marks won't come off, get the wall color, buy yourself a small can of paint, and touch up the walls yourself. I'm sure a small can of paint won't cost $350! read more

I have been living at Dexter Lake Union apartment for the past 1 year and it has been a great experience with Jonny and Jasmine as part of the apartment management team. Here's why: 1) my move-in process was hassle-free 2) the maintenance team are responsible for any maintenance requirements (i.e. things got fixed within 1-2 business days) 3) the complex is quiet 4) when my plates and serving utensils for Thanksgiving would not arrive on time, Jonny offered to let me borrow his. 5) Jasmine and Jonny are responsive to emails and questions and they are really nice people. read more

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in this city... I am in-between two main bus routes, traveling anywhere is a breeze and I never have to wait long. I had been quickly welcomed warmly as I was introduced to the outstanding team members of Dexter and Greystar. Gizell A. gave my 3/yo brother and I, A lovely tour ending with him starring at the Space Needle from the roof top. A big thanks for that... Moving in was stressless and thanks to the property manager Pabel Z. I was informed of everything I can expect and guided to the right unit for me. The view of the city from my office work station is breath taking and I am beyond grateful with the Team that made it possible. Kalani G. This complex is an absolute nightmare. Mold in our unit. ERMI confirmed that we have Aspergillus versicolor which produces Mycotoxins, the exposure has made me extremely sick. We have told management there is mold, I have shown mold on my clothes but only to be dismissed and told "that is not mold" when clearly it was mold. Maintenance is incompetent and only makes issues worse. They clean with bleach where there is no ventilation so the bleach scent sticks around for days and causes me dizziness and nausea, they caused flooding in our bathroom, and then they used a dirty industrial dehumidifier that made our whole downstairs smell like a swamp. Who knows when that was last cleaned and perhaps has made our mold issue even worse. The management does nothing. If you want to end up sick, then live there. If you value your health, live elsewhere. read more

I took my friend to the airport and parked my bike in their supposedly secure area while I drove her out. I never park my bike outside even with the u lock. But this place has security and a keyed entry parking garage. My bike was stolen despite these measures. I have lived at Dexter for over a year now and have enjoyed every second of it. You can't beat the location, literally in the middle of everything. Only a few short steps to Lake Union, 10 minute drive to Capital Hill, about a 10 minute drive to Ballard, and about a mile to Fremont. Not to mention the management is fantastic and they have definitely made my time here easier and more enjoyable (especially when I misplace my keys....shoutout to you Johnny and Jasmine). I'm Canadian and moved to Seattle for work last year. I was placed at Dexter for temp housing and lived in a (too big for me) two bedroom apartment for a month. It was bright and beautiful. Couldn't believe the view I had of Lake Union. Even though I arrived at 6pm that Sunday right before they were supposed to leave for the day - Caverii; one of the staff members helped me carry a few pieces of my luggage with me to my suite. I felt immediately at home. After a month I moved out into another apartment in Belltown. Unfortunately, the second week of living in my new apartment someone broke into my home. I had no choice but to move out. Being in-between homes I didn't know what to do. It was stressful starting a new job and having to now look for another place to live. I decided to try Dexter again. I talked to Candice the property manager on my lunch break. She was very empathetic and patient. We spent the entire hour touring all the different layouts. It's been almost a year living here and I really love it. The people are great. I remember having small issues like accidentally clogging the kitchen sink. My fault, but all I had to do was submit a ticket through the intranet and one of supers would be up the very next day to fix it. They would also leave a note to let you know they did! :D I had a 40 inch TV delievered through Amazon and Pascal, one of the staff members also was nice enough to call me at work and ask if he could help place the TV in my unit since it was valuable. SO NICE! The tenants get together on Fridays for "Wine Fridays" - bring a bottle of wine and a few friends to hang out on the rooftop. I've also held a few get-togethers for friends on the rooftop and in the clubhouse and both are great for hosting. It was super easy to book the amenities through the building's intranet. I would highly recommend Dexter to anyone moving to Seattle. The staff here will make you feel right at home :) read more

The management at Dexter Lake Union is extremely helpful and understanding and sometimes they go out of their way to help you. Johnathan really cares about his tenants and is ready to help in any way possible. Several times he has gone out of his way to make sure I have all the correct information and make sure that my transitions go as smoothly as possible. In general, Dexter Lake Union is a great place to live, very comfortable and with a great management. The rents of the apartments in this building are also very reasonable as compared to other buildings in the area and proximity to major companies' offices, bus stops and Lake Union itself. read more

First of all, the staff is simply amazing! I've lived at Dexter for 9 months now and am still a happy resident. When we were looking for apartments we found the rent is affordable (compared to nearby places) for the square footage we wanted. When we moved in, I was completely blown away on how clean and nice everything looked. I used to lease apartments and I own rental property so I know a thing or two about how a lot of places are turned over. It almost looked as though no one had ever lived in the apartment before - it was that clean! There are monthly activities that are hosted by the staff which has helped us meet some of our great neighbors and the food/alcohol is free - can't beat that! :-) The interior is modern and well kept. The roof top and outdoor areas are beautiful. There is a grill on the roof and the propane is supplied by Dexter. I haven't had any issues with theft but I have heard some rumors about it. I haven't heard of any apartment thefts - all from the garage (which helps me sleep better at night.) That's what renter's insurance is for. The staff does what they can but sometimes theft just happens. They are pretty good about sending out memos about occurrences and tips for keeping your valuables safe. read more

I've been living here for almost 18 months now and my experience has been pretty good. I'll try to break it down into various categories below Overall Summary: Dexter Apartments are a great fit if you're looking for something that's has the basics nailed down within a great price range without looking for the various bells and whistles moden apartments have these days. Pricing: As mentioned before, the pricing is always lower than or equal to other apartment buildings in this area. Management: The people I saw in the office certainly changed frequently when I first started renting here but it's been pretty much stable for the last one year. I've never had issues with management not responding or being harsh with me. They've been very understandable when I've had a neighbour compain about noise. And honeslty, I cannot finish a management review without explicitly giving a shout out to Johnathan(Johnny) Great Man! Apartment Interiors: It depends on the unit you rent. I've seen some units that are complete carpet with really old appliances and then there are units with wodden flooring, brand new appliances. So, the building is in process of upgrading but again, you pay for what you get. Amenities: This is where you're saving money. The building has all the basics for you. You've got a pretty courtyard and terrace with your fire grills etc. A very basic gym, a movie room or a common room that you can reserve when you have friends coming over. The Gotchas: 1. The building elevators can be a pain given how slow they can be sometimes. 2. Building has a compulsory Valet Waste option which costs (i think) 35$ a month. Even if you live next to the trash chute and don't ever use the service, you have to pay. 3. I've had a time when I forgot to setup autopay for rent. Generally in past whenever I've had such an incident, the management was kind enough to let go of the late fee but I didn't get that here and had to pay full late fee read more

I've been living at dexter for 2 years now and planning to renew my lease for another year. It's a great apartment and works well for us. Location - 5/5 - QFC, Space Needle, Amazon and Facebook offices are all within a mile range. Staff - 5/5/ - Their staff is super friendly and always ready to go an extra mile to get things done for you. Cleanliness - 5/5 - I really like how the elevators and common areas are always clean and generally smell great. Price - 4/5 - While the prices in SLU are generally on the higher side, I think the price at Dexter is still reasonable for the square footage. I would have given them a 5/5 if they could further reduce their prices by 5%. Apartment layouts - 5/5 - I have stayed in a one bed room and now moving to a two bedroom apartment. I really like the layout of both the apartments. They are spacious and get good sunlight. Apartment amenities - 3/5 - I would ideally rate the apartment amenities as 4/5, but I have had some trouble with old and heavy blinds in my last apartment and old cooktops in the new apartment. Unfortunately the management was not able to replace these amenities without bumping up the price. I've been here 1.5 years. Place is nice and quiet. There are a few families, but night time is fine. Rent is on the cheaper side for the location, think I got a pretty good deal since I leased for 1.5 years. Jasmine and Jonathan rock. They hold monthly small parties downstairs. Jonathan and Jasmine helped me grab a new key and mailbox key and looked for the mail that was coming in for me when I had my stuff stolen from a bar in Capitol Hill free of charge. They were understanding and quickly gave me access to my apartment and mail. Also Jasmine alerted me on when I was going to receive a signed mail for my replacement credit cards. All in all I'm going to miss the closeness to work, the outside lake view, and the nice staff that helped me in my time of need. read more

Moved in April 2012 and out July 2013. The place was wonderful at the beginning. Close to downtown where I work, gorgeous lake view, superior location to see July 4 fireworks, great rooftop grill. However, the apartment has went on a dramatic down hill turn with the arrival of new management personnel. It seems that one person of the new management likes to associate with everything with money that he wants to charge. e.g. if you wander around the rooftop with friends after the July 4 firework, he'll threaten with $5000 dollar charge on your account. Thinking about that I did a thorough clean up of the apartment at move out and then still have to pay the management after moving out for some non-sense item on my account. Good luck getting your deposit back. Update: here's some follow up on getting my deposit. The way that they property calculates tenant's paint job goes like this: 1) they assume that we are staying for 30 months. 2) say that you are actually staying for n months, 3) you are going to pay for the 30 - n months of prorated paint job. This is 100% non-sense since, if you are staying here for a few months then you are gonna be responsible for the rest 20+ months of paint. They did not include this info in any part of the rent agreement. the property managers are getting away with the whole non-sense since most tenants in the place are super busy (think of the major internet company situated in seattle downtown). hope you see this post and go anywhere else. read more

In addition to my previous review, they've just jacked up my rent by some incredibly ridiculous amount. I understand economics, hard times and the like just like everyone else, but I've always paid my bills on time, never caused any problems. Maybe it's the new Amazon building going in around the corner. It's very disappointing to see this go from a vibrant, fun filled place where you could party all night long, be greeted by a security guard who ensured safety of the residents and their cars and the spirit of house rules rather than the letter, and there was some sort of social event every other week or so to what it is now. While still a great place and worth checking out, for longer term residents with the rising rent and the falling value it's no longer as great as it once was. I just moved in to a new apartment for $200 a month less than their asking price to renew my lease, with free motorcycle parking, better security and better amenities than what's currently offered - a pool, a gym, a business and community area open 24/7... in short, what Dexter Lake Union used to be 2 years ago. I just hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as DLU did. read more

I live in the 1215 Dexter Ave N apartment in Seattle, WA, I park my car in the apartment garage for which I pay extra $200 every month on top of my rent, recently somebody unlocked my car and stole mine and my husband's wallets and used the credit cards. We were lucky to have had a fraud detection notification to stop the transactions and were terrified of imagining that somebody could com inside the building and have the access to our vehicles within the building. We expected that after finding out about this incident the building management would be super concerned but it doesn't seem like it. Nobody even called us to ask about the situation, we have been coordinating with them via email, there are no cameras in the garage, no accountability of the management about this incident. We have been seeing pests in our apartment and have tried to reach out to the management, they asked us to send pictures of the insect, we did and then there has been no follow up, nobody cares! I like the management team here a lot, apartment is nice and clean, no obnoxious neighbors! However, Dexter apartment is expensive, noisy, and my belongings keep getting stolen. Know that Seattle is a high-theft area and Dexter apartment is prone to thievery almost every 2 months. The apartment is beautiful, staffs are nice, maintenance repair is quick (usually within a day or two), very dog friendly. I would live here if it wasn't due to me getting robbed twice within the past two months. We have lived here for 7 months. While the place is nice with view of Lake Union, clean hallway, beautiful rooftop, and court yard, I would not recommend this apt. The reasons... 1. Our bicycle ($3000 value) and motorcycle ($8000 value) were stolen while parked in the secured garage which we paid $150 per car per month. Bicycle stolen last month and motorcycle dismantled and all accessories stolen by a thief today! 2. The garage door is broken/malfunction 50% of the time, leaving the garage open, unsecured half of the time. Even if it is working properly, thieves are always lurking. 3. The appliances in the apartment unit is crappy. My stove is wobbly. The toilet always makes noises. The dryer doesn't ever dry my clothes on one cycle. I always have to do 2 cycles of drying to get my clothes to dry. The bathtub had a crack in it and needed replacement. Leaks in kitchen sink, leaks in bathroom sink. All of which were fixed in an expedited manner. However, it was still an inconvenience for us. 4. You can be sure that rent will always increase every year 15-20% more upon lease renewal. Overall, Dexter is a nice place to live. Somewhat noisy. Nice view of Lake Union, apt areas are always clean and well kept. However, for the price that we are paying we can find similar apt elsewhere. There are many, many apt complex close by that are newer with similar price and much more amenities. Not a fan of $150/mo for parking. Overall, don't leave your bicycle or motorcycle in the garage. Bicycles, motorcycles and cars are being stolen, broken into frequently (about every 3 months). Today 2 motorcycles were stripped off by thieves and a car window was smashed. The police officer today said he has had to stop by to do police reports about 10 times within the past 5 months. My neighbor and I are both breaking the lease bc of thievery. We are scared, feeling spooked living here. What if I get robbed while in the parking garage!?!?!! Be careful before signing your lease! Take caution and think real hard! And if you have bicycles keep it in your apt not in the garage. Motorcycles...don't have one, most likely it will get stolen and stripped like mine, or get a cheap one that won't attract thieves. read more

I have been living here for about a year and as our first home in Seattle (with a growing toddler in tow), it has been great! Having done a fair amount of looking around for apartments near downtown and especially on dexter avenue, we felt even though Dexter at Lake Union might not seem like the swankiest most modern apartment building, it is the most 'HOME LIKE', with all the basics in place. The building is well maintained and the support staff is prompt and super efficient. The management is also responsive and 'Johnny' at the office is super awesome, friendly and always ready to help. In a nutshell, check Dexter at Lake union out for amazing location, appropriately sized apartments, reasonable pricing (compared to anything in the neighborhood), super nice common patios and decks and great upkeep. read more

I've been living in Dexter Lake Union for nearly 4 years, and everything has been good until recently when the building manager and staffs were changed. I had 4 packages coming to package concierge within a week and stayed safely in the lockers. All of them were retrieved by the staffs who could open the lockers of the residents. Package concierge recorded the time and name of the staff who did that. When I went to ask for my packages, they said they already delivered to my apartment's front door. (They said my packages was there for more than 5 days, but only package stayed for 7 days.) However, I didn't see any package delivered to my front door at all even though I stayed at home the whole week. Note that I'm living in an apartment inside the building, not outside, so where and how my packages could be stolen by people outside? This really raises the question of the trust and reliability of the staffs in the building. The manager didn't give me any reasonable explanation or solution. I'm really disappointed and feel unsafe because of the staffs in the building rather than people outside. read more

This is a review almost specifically for Jasmine who is an amazing support for this property. Ever since early last year when I needed to find the right property which would be affordable and offer some much needed sunlight; to the fact that a coworker needed a space to move so I needed to transition into an affordable 2 bedroom. With very difficult time schedules, Jasmine made accommodations for this transition very easy with a very professional execution while always including a personal touch to let me know that I was special. Little extra touches of great relationships skills come at times when I needed a help with jumping my car and getting last minute tours during my apartment search. She is an amazing asset that should be regarded as one of the main reasons to think about staying at this property. You will feel the personal attention that is often not offered at most properties. I would feel a bit re-missed if I also did not include the great coworkers that support this property in both Maddy and Johnny also but this specific review was to give high accolades to Jasmine. I will include one small criticism but since it was a bit my fault, I can't take a point. One night, I dropped my keys down the elevator shaft on a Sunday night and the after hours team could have been more helpful rather than leave me to handle the situation by myself which ended up costing a couple hundred dollars to break my lock with a locksmith. But as this is out of their protocol, I understand. I just wish that extra mile to just have helped by opening my door to get my spare. Dexter LU is a fantastic place to live. Our relocation agent suggested an apartment at Dexter Lake Union. As soon as we talked with Pascal, we knew it was a the perfect match. We were looking for a short lease (6 month) that would give us enough time to find a house and allow our son finish his school year in the same school. The apartment was clean, sunny and had gorgeous views to Lake Union. Although a bit noisy from all the construction going on outside during the day, the unity itself was very quite and we couldn't hear the neighbors. The management staff is AMAZING. Always kind, friendly and attentive. The same can be said for the maintenance staff, who always responded on a timely matter whenever there was a problem. Rental of the Club house if FREE (reservation/deposit needed) and we used it for our son's birthday party. The garden terrace is great for BBQ or, like we did, an afternoon snack with the kids. If you have kids attending an elementary school, John Hay Elementary is the assigned school. Not only it has received various achievement awards in the past years, it also scores a 10 on Great Schools. The school bus stop right next to the Sushi restaurant and Taco del Mar. There is no playground nearby but you can easily walk to South Lake Union park and MOHAI. The space needle and the artist's playground is also within a walking distance from the apartments. My husband and I relocated from NYC over a year ago. I had very little time to find an apartment and was pleasantly surprised how quickly I found a great place at the Dexter. The apartment was a clean, big corner unit with a generous size utility/laundry room. The management staff was very kind and was always friendly, especially to my dog ;-). The maintenance staff always responded in a timely manner to anything that needed fixing in the apartment. There is parking which is nice considering there is no street parking for the most part. My husband and I moved in when the property was managed by Prometheus in 2013. Pascal, who still manages in Seattle, but for a different property was the reason we chose to live here. He is extremely professional and personable. You will understand why he has outstanding customer service skills when you find out his past experiences in the hospitality industry. We ultimately made the decision to live at Dexter because we knew if we needed to address anything during our time here, Pascal would be able to meet our needs. A few years later, Alliance managed the property and everything went downhill from here. You can tell the staff was unhappy as everyone who was there originally left for other properties run by different management companies. The new staff that came in were inexperienced, at least from my point of view, and did not maintain the same quality the staff had in the past. Walking through the front doors, residents were ignored without even a simple hello or welcome back. There were a number of instances I walked through the front doors and said hello through the open glass doors of the management office without a response in return. I have no problem saying hello, but when you're not even acknowledged at the place you live in which is home, it makes living there uncomfortable. Madison was one of the worst and unprofessional staff I have ever encountered. She had a bad attitude all around. Anyone working in this industry should get to know the residents and at the very least know how to practice good customer service. There were a number of instances I, along with other residents, would be in the elevator with her and we would all greet each other without her saying anything. There was one time where she was in the elevator with me and another staff in training where she spoke openly about how the manager had incorrectly spelled content on the flier. Although it was true, it was incredibly unprofessional to reveal the creator of the flier. Could that not have waited in a private setting? (Side note: The trainee was excellent and enthusiastic. I hope he ultimately stayed with the property.) On another occasion in the morning, the elevators were unavailable without notice (which happened quite often) for a resident to move in/out. As the elevator doors opened, she said the elevators were reserved for a move and I could not get on. There was no signage before hand to warn residents. She did not apologize for the inconvenience and her curt and condescending way of speech not just this instance but every time I encountered her made it a near offense to run into her. She always made addressing people an inconvenience. Like other residents have stated, there were numerous break-ins in the garage. The four years I lived here, no improvements were really made with additional surveillance. The renovations were not that impressive. Whoever was hired to design the space did not really put into mind the people who would use the facilities. The renovated gym was overcrowded without windows and I was inclined to exercise elsewhere. The gym prior to renovations was small, but it felt spacious since equipment wasn't packed in. There was a private area that could be rented out for social events that was eliminated with the renovations. The concierge trash pick-up was an unnecessary additional cost. I understand residents would leave trails of stains on the carpet as they would carry their trash and recyclables to the trash room, but the service did not justify the fees. The culture of promoting a great living environment should start with management. People want to live in a nice place and if management reinforces that Dexter is a great place, I'm sure people will treat it with respect and not leave things a mess. The location of Dexter is good. Pho Cyclo is down the next block along with Taco Chukis, Potbelly, and Starbucks. Buses run down the block, but traffic during rush hour can get overwhelming. With Facebook next door and street renovations that allow for you to walk to Westlake through a newly made pedestrian walkway across the street, convenience is a major perk. But I'm not sure if the service and quality really matched what the lobby of Dexter was trying to lead patrons to believe. There are plenty of living options throughout Dexter Ave. read more

Dexter is a great place to live. Period. I can understand when people have a bad experience once or twice with their living situation/apartment complex, but taking to yelp in frustration is not the way to go. Anyone who is interested in living here should come talk to the staff (who are incredible by the way) and to some neighbors ahead of time if they can. I'm sure you'll get a great picture of what living at Dexter is like. On pricing, you have to decide what is worth it to you. I can say something is overpriced, and others might think it's a steal. It's about what you value. For what the street and neighborhood is going through right now (Amazon/Apartment BOOM) I think the place is fairly affordable. You might disagree, or have/be presented with a different rate (based on the current market). On the apartment and facilities, I've always been impressed. It's not a brand new building, but sure is not run down by any means. Dexter holds its own against the neighboring complexes (I think much nicer than Summit, but will never be as new as Union or True North). The gym equipment is adequate, and I have never seen it broken. Is the gas sometimes out on the rooftop grill? Yeah! Just go tell the staff, and they're on it! Rental of the roof and clubhouse is FREE, just need a reservation and deposit. There's even a guest suite that acts as a hotel room, which is a really cool option to have in your building for visitors. Parking is expensive, and there will always be challenges with theft anywhere you go. There have been some situations in the garage with bikes being stolen or cars being broken into. Staff's reaction has been appropriate, and they are continually trying to keep the garage safe. Two major rules in life though: 1) Don't leave valuables visible in your car. Just DON'T 2) Don't leave a $3,000 bicycle locked up in a garage near an external exit gate. Just DON'T. I've digressed, Dexter is awesome! read more

Nobody is perfect but Dexter definitely goes out of their way to strive for excellence. I've lived there a few months now and any problems I have run into have been promptly resolved. The building is a little older, the appliances and flooring aren't modern, but hey for the price you pay to live here, it's totally worth it. The area is quiet and clean. The apartments aren't noisy party places. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and professional. They have definitely made my relocation from another state an easy one. If you want to pay more for a smaller place that is in a noisy dirty neighborhood, then you should live on capital hill. If you want clean, quiet, spacious, professionals... you should live at Dexter Lake Union. read more

Dexter Lake Union is a relatively more affordable choice in the Westlake neighborhood. But it's poorly managed, and will cause you more headaches than your money's worth. Pros: - Location - More affordable? Dexter is cheaper than surrounding brand-new apartments (or they're supposed to be, but sometimes they try to get away charge more by pretending to be a newer building). In any case, you get what you pay for. Cons: - Cheap construction and dated building. Don't be misled by the veneer, as I'll explain below. - The worst elevators. The elevators are often broken and out of service. Even when they're operating, they're extremely slow - I've seen many people give up and take the stairs. Also, the elevators are extremely loud. Avoid units near one. - Garage security. The garage is rented out to non-residents and office workers working nearby (because they charge too much for parking and can't manage to fill the garage). This is a security risk. It's the same as parking outside. - Both garage doors often don't respond to remote fobs. I've had to walk inside the garage and trigger the sensor from the inside in order to park my car. - Noise. The walls and floors are paper thin. You'd better hope your neighbors have the same sleeping schedule as you. - Lost packages. Do you get a lot of packages? Better not ship them home, because when the shipping locker is full, they will sign packages for you and promptly declare them missing. - Poorly managed. Speaking of lost things, they can't even keep track of who's renting parking spaces and storage spaces. They had to perform audits of both. They threatened to throw out stuff in storage if residents were unavailable to respond to their audit. I knew someone who had a garage key and yet was parking for free for many months. - Unfair rent increase. They tried to increase my rent by 3% even though the market had dropped by at least 5%. When I asked the leasing office about it, they quite matter-of-factly told me it would cost me money to move anyway, and would I like the move-out form? I could not believe their greed and callousness. - Privacy. They sell your information to unscrupulous businesses. I still get emails from housekeeping services and gimmicky loyalty accounts after I moved out. This is unacceptable. I pay rent - my information should not be sold to startups. - Fraudulent utility bills. Watch out! Conservice will overcharge on the water bill and not tell you. If I hadn't been on vacation and noticed the huge discrepancy (who's using water when I was not home?), I wouldn't have been able to get the entire 2nd month's utility bill refunded. This has happened at least two separate times in two different calendar years, but the residents were never informed. Come to think of it, I should really report Dexter Lake Union for their fraudulent practices, but I've already wasted enough time on this veritable disaster of a "professionally-managed" apartment. read more

How about 10 STARS?? Can I give a 10 star review? I MUST say, my wife and I are truly sad to be leaving this wonderful living establishment. A work-related relocation has forced my wife and I to hesitantly decide to move after only a short nine months at Dexter. Second one, I was sold simply on my interaction with Pascal in the leasing office. He, Ashleigh and Candice are frankly phenomenal people who run this property so very well. They know every neighbor (remnant) by name, including every pet, and they always offer treats to the pups and take the time to greet everyone as they enter and exit the building. Although there was never a major issue, the entire staff including the maintenance personnel are very engaging and make sure to handle anything at a moments notice. Above all of the amenities like the rooftop social areas, the club house social gatherings and the wonderful pet friendly neighbors there are, this place is definitely the place for any person who loves the city life and wants to be close to EVERYTHING. Our experience at Dexter was frankly exceptional and enjoyable. Thank you to a great team at Dexter Apartments and you will be missed! read more
