This is just the type of place you want to have BBQ. Only reason not a 5 is some people may be put off on portion to price ratio -Appetizer stuffed jalapeños peppers were amazing. Grilled with a cheese mixed with brisket bits and wrapped in pepper. -Dinner. I had the brisket. You get to choose as they have two types. One from the fatty end. Spicy rub. One from the lean side. Love it is the actual place that *Animal House* bar scene was filmed. Plus there are Awesome views of Dexter Lake. The food is freshly made, so sometimes if you don't get there early, some popular items run out However, their hamburgers are huge and so are their sandwiches. Love the setting from the infamous scene in Animal House! We were hungry after a day of adventure out in the woods and the lakeside. We ordered a large variety of items and unfortunately most just wasn't good. Prices were fine for a BBQ place but expensive for a takeout/small dive bar atmosphere. This was my fourth time here. I do want to like this place but was super disappointed. Not sure if I'll ever go back. Menu was way to big for only three employees to be working. Outdoor areas are beaten down and dirty. Indoor area in the same disrepair. Food: SUPER dry and seemed to be reheated. They were out of most their meat selections which is understandable, as these days it is hard to plan for clientele when our worthless governor changes our covid levels daily. So, I forgive them for that. Yet, they were also out of baked potatoes, Mac and cheese and baked beans?? How they hell can you be out of baked potatoes?? Cook some more. They are fricking cheap and they store well!!! Oh, I should mention that it was 2pm!!! What the hell were they going to have for the dinner rush?? Service: One star. The food was amazing, I just went in to deliver an order to them and immediately smelled how good it is as soon as I walked in. This is not a fancy place, it's out of the way, and it looks a little sketchy from the outside. The inside is definitely outdated too. The food is quite good though! We tried the white meat chicken, coleslaw and the BBQ quesadilla, as well as an order of fried mushrooms. It was all really tasty, cooked well, and quick. The portion sizes are generous and the prices are reasonable. I'm pretty sure they hand batter their own mushrooms too- if they are frozen and fried- they should keep that supplier because they are one of the better fried mushrooms I've had! Loved the array of BBQ sauces, although it would have been nice to know what each was. Some were self explanatory (BBQ and spicy BBQ - the latter being really tasty!) others weren't as easy (snakebite, coach something or another) Next time we head out to Dexter, we will be planning on stopping in again! read more

I like this place. We have no visited a couple of times. Apparently it was the main bar for Animal House the movie... I haven't seen it but apparently its there. This is a divey place --- note: I love these places -- it isn't formal dining. Food is served on a cafeteria tray just like in true BBQ places. SMALL dining room but you can also eat in the bar. Service has always been extremely nice. They run out of their meats EVERY DAY. So if you know you want something then call ahead that day and reserve it -- especially the ribs. We came with a coupon both times. I like the sides... I LOVE the fried mushrooms and Jalapeno poppers.. I like their fries and onion rings are A-ok... Root vegetables were different and I liked that. Side salad it good as well. Brisket is pretty good... obviously going to have flavor because it does have some fat (which I am adverse to)... Pulled pork is good as well. I liked the sliders -- they were TINY but you get 3. I liked the platters. The highlight of this place is DEFINITELY the ribs. If you can get the babybacks trust me they are worth it.. Definitely smoked without sauce (never fear they have like 5 different bbq sauces to add)... and has a STRONG smokey flavor but the rack is HUGE!!!! The meat is awesome on it and very little fat. Drinks are unlimited for $2 fountain -- so that is nice. Iced Tea is great as well. Do NOT bother with the Texas Chocolate cake unless you like really really light chocolate flavor. read more

We decided to come back for the food on one of our ride nights. One of the people in our group said she called ahead to make sure they were going to be open. It was Karaoke night and all of the singers were so good that at first I thought there was a band playing until I saw the screen on the side. We didn't get there in time for some of the great smoked meats they have, but what we all were able to order was very delicious. I know you are supposed to get here at two different times of the day when they pull the meat off of the smoker, because other wise the food is gone. The several different BBQ sauces are very good and worth trying. I had half a bird and had to share with friends because...well I eat like a bird some times and they were eye balling my bird while I was eating it. My guy got the ribs, and they were yummy too! I snapped pics of our friends mile high burgers that they really enjoyed, and we joked about them needing to dislocated their jaws just to eat them. I saw others in our group ordered what looked like sliders with pulled pork and maybe a pretzel bun? I could be wrong about the bun. I never did ask. But they all looked pretty happy while eating. I am glad the new owners reopened this place because my guy and I used to go to the old DLC with his Dad who is no longer with us. His Dad grew up in Dexter so it is some what sentimental to us. Met friends here a couple days ago. We came on a day when Hamm's an PBR were only a buck- nice surprise! I had a full rack of beef ribs ($6) which were very tough. Mac and cheese was good, potato salad was pretty standard but good. Husband had pulled pork and brisket, both excellent. They were out of chicken when we got there (6:45ish). BBQ is generally not my go-to cuisine when I'm eating out but I have to say that in 29 years of living in the US this is hands down the best BBQ I have ever had. The manager gave us three different sauces to try with the pulled pork sandwich and they were all delicious. My wife had a deluxe grilled cheese sandwich filled with pork, sausage and Mac n Cheese with a spicy kick to it. Lovely. Can't recommend this more. read more

Worth the wait. The prime rib was lean and tender. Definitely smoked. Brisket had just enough fat to make it tender and very good. It took 1 hr to get my to go meal. The bartender/waiter was amazing. Some of the best "Texas style" bbq I've had ....about 18 min south of Eugene / Springfield BUT more than worth the drive. Pit master played at University of Oregon so he's "our people" #goducks and they are home town pedigree (good people) ....we came in about an hour before close ....they welcomed us and we talked sports the entire time....super welcoming place and again FOOD is legit! Food is dry, flavorless, overpriced, and very small portions. I used to come in after every time I'd go out and hike anywhere out HWY 58. But the combo of bad food high prices and a terrible owner have me finally where I'll never step foot in this place again. Guy that owns it judgemental and extremely rude, I've came in after hiking and looked a little dirty, and he always makes passive aggressive statements under his breath like he thinks in homeless or something, which I'm not I used to spend $30-50 bucks a pop and still leave hungry. So yeah he can keep his dying restaurant where no one goes, ill spend my money in town on good food at restaurants that appreciate me coming in and helping them stay afloat during trying times. read more

I found this place on yelp and I'm glad I did. It was Taco Tuesday. We got 3 soft tacos with ground beef and brisket for $5. Each taco was big. What a deal! We Also got the pulled pork sandwich and bbq ribs. The cowboy beans were pretty tasty. Its got a great view.
