I literally do construction inspection for a living. I spent 2 months doing research and picking a roofer, I educated myself on all the different products: GAF versus CertainTeed versus Owens Corning... drip edge, starter strips, ice and water shield, underlayment, different types of shingles, ridge caps / vents, can vents, talked a lot about ventilation! I ended up cold calling 8 places to get 6 quotes, 4 of which were all great. I could have went with any of the 4. Made an excel spreadsheet... But C.H.I. just stood apart. Excellent customer service, and Jim took care of us every step of the way. From the moment we met Jim, we could tell he was our guy. Very nice, not pushy at all. Jim quickly responded to any questions I had from my "research" phase, answering all my questions about the different products, all the way through "roof install day". I called him when I had a question the morning my roof was being installed. He answered right away and gave a great answer to my question. Chris the Foreman was great, too. As the roof was being installed, Chris answered all my questions and forwarded my messages to his workers and, another thing that set them apart was that they didn't follow the exact same "design" of my roof from the 1990's: Chris and his crew went above and beyond to add a few vents and things to do it the right way, because he (in his expertise) thought it looked better and would be better if the roof was installed "that" way instead of the original way from 30 years ago. I totally agreed, glad they decided to add a few things to my roof. Customer Service was top-notch! I learned when it comes to roofing, you'll read different things about the material companies. Some people swear by GAF, some people swear by CertainTeed. The material is what it is - it's the INSTALLATION that counts. If the roof SYSTEM is not installed correctly, that's when you'll have problems, regardless of material. In the end, that's why we picked C.H.I. - someone we can TRUST to do it right. I've always heard "time, money, quality: pick 2". This is my first time doing a project on the house where I honestly believe a contractor gave me all three: quick responses, quick installation (time), VERY high quality products and installation all the way through, and a VERY good price. C.H.I. gave me time, money, AND quality. Take it from me - an engineer who dug deep into way too much unnecessary detail. If you're reading this --- I've done the work for you, already: go with Certified Home Improvement.

Follow-up does not happen as promised. One morning prior to 7 a.m., I was awakened to the sound of my dogs barking insistently, only to find a truck full of building materials, and three strange men walking around my lawn. The owners son had forgotten to tell me materials would be delivered. The actual workers get 5 stars. The owner and son have earned one star. Thus, the average of 3 stars for this review. They were polite, timely, meticulously clean. They worked from sun up to sun down, barely taking any break. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I found the owners son to be quite difficult. This includes a remark that the son made about his (Mexican) workers that was quite derogatory and I was offended. After the work was completed, I had a gusher of a leak in the sunroom late one evening after the first rain. I called the next morning and was told they would come to repair the damages mid morning the following day. They failed to call or show up. I got up on a ladder and took photos, shocked by the sloppy workmanship I discovered. When I called the following day to inquire, I was rudely treated. I told the owner NOT to send the son back to my property. The following day the son arrived. I am now told that they have corrected the deficiencies, however I have zero confidence in these folks. I am considering paying a second company to do a full inspection to provide assurance that there are no more leaks and I will not have trouble down the road. Photos will be posted.

Devon came to my home for two separate visits, but instead of focusing on the precise measurements or the technical scope of the structural build, he repeatedly deflected the conversation. On the phone, he explicitly asked if he could drink tea at my home. During the visits, he pushed to sit in my living room to mingle about unrelated personal topics and family matters rather than discussing the staircase. On his second visit, my family happened to be preparing lunch. Out of basic courtesy, I offered him a sandwich. He immediately accepted, sat down, and ate with us while continuing to avoid discussing the project details I hired his company for. When he finally left, he texted me insisting that I must drive down to their Livonia showroom just to see the pricing numbers. Because I was departing on a two-week vacation, I emailed him politely asking if he could simply email a sample copy of the contract, their insurance certificates, and the itemized estimate so I could review them safely while away. Devon replied on July 16th stating he would "reach out tomorrow" to schedule a showroom visit and review my email. It has now been nearly two weeks of complete silence. He entirely ghosted me after I requested basic contract transparency and legal guardrails. A local acquaintance later warned me that Sterling Construction takes "all the time in the world" to finish simple projects. Based on Devon's bizarre boundary issues, time-wasting tactics, and ultimate disappearance, that assessment is entirely accurate.
