I've watched for years as the quality of this beautiful restaurant has gone down and last night will be my last visit. The food probably started out as great concepts but we found everything over sauteed, under-seasoned and visually sloppy. As it was our anniversary, we were given a complementary dessert (a nice touch) which was laughably disgusting: a very old banana nut muffin cut in half, a tablespoon of ice cream on top and a handful of soggy popcorn scattered around the plate. What a delightful Sunday lunch at De Wolf Tavern. Hubs started with a seafood chowder that I was afraid he would try to lick the bowl. I had three little neck clams that were fresh and well shucked and a fried green tomato topped with lobster and avocado. We both chose sandwiches made with naan. His was filet mignon with cheddar and mine was pulled chicken. Both came with homemade chips and were so generous that we took half home. The highlight of our meal was finding a cab franc on the wine list from a vineyard on Long Island that we have visited. Although it was a bit of a pricey lunch it was well worth it. read more

Although the location on the water and the stone building are lovely, our dinner and the service were both major disappointments. We ordered a variety of small plates plus the cod. The steamed mussels were supposed to be prepared with coconut milk, curry leaf and chili, but the mussels were steamed in coconut milk, period. There were NO other flavors, and the other ingredients were MIA. The raw oysters were mediocre, and for a restaurant that professes seafood to be among their specialties, they were served with cocktail sauce in a small plastic cup, with NO Mignonette sauce, and with no explanation as to their origin. Shrimp cocktail was okay, the cod was slightly overcooked and flavorless with no seasoning whatsoever. It did not have any chorizo in the dish as was described on the menu. We ordered fries (admittedly an odd choice) which seemed to be fried from frozen and entirely bland. The flavor of each dish was so lacking, we requested salt and pepper. We each ordered the Kenyan french press coffee, and it was highly inconsistent with one coffee being ten shades darker than the other with a huge gap in coffee strength. I understand that good help is tricky to find, but our server never checked in with us to ask how our dishes were. We will not be returning; it was such a let down. read more

Here as a wedding vendor with my husband! I sat outside at the bar downstairs! The waitress Jenny was great and attentive! We ordered the vegetable sandwich with no cheese because were both vegan.. it was great and exactly what I needed to fill me up! Their French fries are super good. The bread was delicious and super fresh! I had the lavender mule which I would highly recommend! Review is definitely enhanced because my BFF and I were there on a near-perfect summer early evening. We sat outside on the lower deck and soaked up the harbor view. What a relaxing and beautiful spot. For food/beverage, we had the pear drink (not on menu, but recommended by our server) and the Island Rum Runner. Delicious on both accounts! The Rum Runner has tiny Maine blueberries in the bottom. 'Twas a bit strong, but wonderful. (note: I do not often drink liquor.) We also split the saffron white wine steamed mussels and the truffle oil, arugala and Parma naan pizza. We stopped talking for the remainder of the meal. Totally engrossed in the food. Nice spot. Enjoyed our time. Service was spot-on to start the experience, but definitely dwindled as our meal progressed. read more

Eat at a table downstairs or upstairs. Great for dinner with Granny, the 'rents, business colleagues, or an intimate dinner for two. Huge plus: gorgeous water views from some of the tables upstairs - make reservations for sunset, you will not be sorry. Now onto the food. I describe their menu as French-Indian fusion. Classically prepared with a left turn to delicious. There are still a few safe options for those wary of flavor and spice, but way play it safe? We often go and make a meal out of apps. There is also a great selection for those vegetarians and pescetarians among you which includes an awesome selection of sea food and a variety of plant-based sides to mix and match to an entree, or straight up plant-only entree options. Meh. That's what I give it. Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. Nothing was wrong with it - but it wasn't astronomically great, either. And, for the price, there is most definitely better food to be had in Rhode Island. Again, solid but not fantastic. I had sangria - which had a great, unique taste. Hubs didn't love it...partially because it tasted more like a mai tai (fruity and sweet) than true sangria. As a starter, we shared the Shrimp Pakora. The shrimp were fresh and juicy, and I was pleased that they were 'jumbo' sized but not tasteless. For dinner, I had the Tandoor roasted lobster. It was a different take (more like grilled than boiled). The mashed potatoes were tasty, and I enjoyed everything. I likely should have chosen something more true to their style/cuisine. My husband had the tandoori marinated swordfish tips and they were tasty. Note on the seating: We sat in the back outside patio, which was lovely but a little more casual. I think next time we would try to sit upstairs, or on their (little known) upstairs deck! read more

We found DeWolf by accident. We were exploring another restaurant in the area and this tavern looked very nice - stone building, low roof, very tavern-ish. We decided to try it out, and we were glad we did. The inside of the tavern is comfortably lit, it was not crowded, the service was very pleasant. The beer tasted great. The food we ordered was delicious. I had coconut curry swordfish, husband had shaved steak in naan sandwich and both great choices. My fish came with a side of broccoli rabe that was seasoned with a bit of truffle oil that brought out the taste, the curry fish was complex, well balanced and enjoyable. Husband's sandwich was thick, juicy and naan bread was a great touch. They do have a bit of an Indian cuisine influence on their menu which is a great touch. My wife and I have been going to DeWolf Tavern for over ten years and have always enjoyed the ambiance, the food, and the attention of the wait staff. Unfortunately, on our recent visit it seems that much has changed. While the ambiance is still terrific, the wait time for our meal was one and one half hours, and our meal was barely eatable. My wife and I both ordered the Cod because in the past the Cod was generous and perfectly cooked. The current menu describes the Cod offering as "Crab stuffed cod loin wrapped with Prosciutte, Bocatini pasta, Marinara". What we received was a plate full of pasta, with a two inch square of dried Cod covered in what tasted like a plastic wrap. DeWolf's should be embarrassed and ashamed of putting such a terrible offering on their menu. Our meal and the meals of the other guests at our table were a far cry from the quality of the meals of the DeWolf of the past. Until I read that there is a new chef or new management, I do not plan to patronize DeWolf Tavern again. read more

After hearing so many great things about Dewolf Tavern, we were eager to try it. Especially since "New American meets Indian" sounds practically like heaven to my wife and I. It was... OK. The lobster popover is very delicious, though the popover wasn't super hot and super crispy like a great one is. We tried the vegetable pakoras, skirt steak, Tawa salmon, and bacon wrapped scallops (I'm a sucker for these and was intrigued by the Indian take on them) were all good but not great. Nothing bad to say, but nothing great or "to-die-for" either. And the service as rather impersonal and inconsistent. read more

My husband and I recently gave DeWolf a second chance. The reason for this is because on a previous visit, I ordered a creme brûlée for dessert and when it arrived, it tasted like a barn yard. Like it had been housed in a walk-in cooler with raw meat. I said something the the waiter and without apologizing or really saying anything he removed it and no one mentioned it again. This visit, I ordered the swordfish. When I cut into it, it seemed dry, but I tasted it anyway only to discover that the entire underside was burned. It was black. I turned it over and found the entire thing completely burned and inedible. It was clear that the kitchen tried to cover their mistake. My husband's steak was inexplicably butterflied with one half over cooked and the their half rare. My husband told the server about my fish and he was really apologetic, said it looked like the kitchen tried to conceal it and promised the manager would be over. We didn't see the manager until she brought the new fish over and didn't apologize but said she hoped this one would be better. It was. Our issue was that for 15 or more minutes, while my husband finished his meal and I sat without one and the manager said nothing. They didn't offer to comp the dish or bring drinks or dessert (as a former restaurant manager I absolutely would have removed the dish from the menu and offered to buy something else too). My husband thanked the server for his behavior but said that we were disappointed with management and wouldn't be back. During all of this, the chef came out from the kitchen several times to greet guests (except us) and when we left he was having a drink at the bar. Pretty ironic that his bio on their website mentions how he perfectly cooks swordfish. read more

Went for Sunday mid day brunch. They serve their breakfast menu 'til 2:00 Interestingly, we go here probably twice a month since it's a nice place for a night cap and one f the few places in Warren/Bristol where you can get a drink after 10:00. The ambiance, 200 year old wood and stone warehouse, is wonderful and the bartenders interesting. Very good wine list by the glass and unusual cocktails with uncommon spirits, specifically for me, lots of Different Gins. But, Lord, have i digressed. Lots of different a-la-carte breakfast choices but I always gravitate to the Eggs Benedict. Last time I sat outside and there was a special Corned Beef Hash .Benedict. Weather forced US inside SUNDAY and menu only had a regular BENE. It was fine, not great. Perfectly cooked eggs but could have used a little more sauce. Potatoes were disappointing. I should have remembered the red peppers. Bah. I hate peppers. Two nice glasses of French Chardonay hit the spot but it was a decision between that and Mimosas. So, we love the place because it has character, great wine,craft beers, great service, great location,I-Dine and a Yelp rebates and Eggs Benedict. Next stop we really should have dinner. I say it's good for kids but I'll qualify that to good for breakfast time. Dinner would be a little quiet for active children but you know your own best. I have eaten breakfast at the seasonal outside bar and locked my bike to the lattice work. Location is hop, skip, jump from East Bay Bikepath. Although I've never seen dogs, there seems plenty of Space outside for a well behaved animal but suggest calling to be sure. read more

Terrible and slow service. We had a party of eleven and were seated near the hostess. It took 2 hours to be served our entrees. The waitress disappeared and seemed to focus on smaller tables where her tip wasn't included in the bill. The hostess did NOTHING. The food was odd and served lukewarm. Then I had to physically find the waitress to pay the bill after waiting 20 minutes after receiving it. All in all a very poor experience. Larger parties should steer clear of this joint. read more

I gave one star for the view, but would never come back - it wasn't busy at all and we waited 20 minutes without ever getting water, no exaggeration. We went on Sunday without a reservation - the hostess was super nice and friendly and hooked us up with a beautiful table outside (just what we wanted!!!). We had the raw bar for appetizer which was fresh and delicious and served with a balsamic sorbet which was to die for. Had lobster for dinner and they were cooked to perfection. Great martinis too. Our server, Nathan, was just AMAZING. Friendly, helpful, at our service. Very helpful in figuring out what to have for someone with a severe gluten allergy. We've eaten here a few times before with favorable results: inventive food and personal service, all in a historic setting. Decided to go there for an anniversary meal and left sorely disappointed. I try not to be the most demanding person, but when you have to wait 15 minutes for your waiter to even acknowledge you, something isn't right. Now keep in mind, there were only 5 other tables taken with three servers there. The aloof waiter was either new or on something. Brought the wrong drink, service intervals were really long, and he spilled chips that came with my wife's meal all over the table and didn't bother to pick them up or get a fresh batch. The food itself was good, though there were a couple lapses these too especially the salad drenched in dressing. In a fine dining restaurant like this, I would expect better service to go with the ambience and inventiveness of the menu. read more

My sister and her boyfriend live in Bristol so we went out to dinner at Dewolf Tavern when we visited. It was an amazing dinner. We went on a Thursday night so we got a half price bottle of wine to split. They had a great wine and beer menu. We had the local cheese platter with house made jam and local honey which was excellent. I am vegetarian and the menu had a lot of great options. I had the naan vegetarian sandwich which was incredible. I love naan and Indian food so I love how the menu was so versatile and incorporated these foods. The Brussel sprouts with cornbread was awesome. The portions were large and I brought half my food home. Everyone enjoyed their food. The waitstaff was informative and attentive. Is there a way to give more than 5 stars? Tonight was my first visit to DeWolf Tavern but it most certainly wont be my last. It has the most charming ambiance both inside and outside on the patio. I love how they celebrate the history of their City with artifacts and information available at the entrance. The live music and waterfront view was the exact experience my group was in search for tonight. I cant say enough about how professional and kind the staff are. My waiter Sean was attentive and suggested some amazing dishes. The Filets were cooked perfectly! Every bite had such immense flavor I wish I could take the Chef home with me. The Manager Erika was walking through the restaurant making sure everyone was enjoying themselves stopping off at the tables, the bar, wherever she was needed. The whole staff worked with smiles on their faces and you could tell it was a well organized team. Thank you all! This is a nice restaurant good for friends catching up or for families. The food was really good, however it did take a long time for the food to come out. The service was decent, I was just amazed at how long it took for them to bring us our food. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded and we all ordered sandwiches. We loved our sandwiches and the serve local sodas. They also did not put all of our food in the to go container. If you have time to wait this is a good spot and is on the water. read more
