This is my favorite lunch spot! The service and quality of food (I always order salad) is dependable.

Cute little place for lunch. It's like a mini Balducci's. Every single sandwich looks so delicious, it took me about 5 minutes to decide on the roasted eggplant and hummus on multigrain bread. YUM!!! It's kind of far from my office, but I will definitely hit this place up more often now than the NPC Food Court. It is a bit expensive, but it's definitely a more "gourmet" sammy shop. read more

One of my co-workers has repeatedly mentioned "the sandwich place" that she loves so much so when she was heading up there for lunch today, I decided to tag along and find out just how good it is. We arrived ahead of the normal lunch rush and it was pretty empty so I got to take a good look around and go over my options without feeling pressured. They do things a little differently here - and I'm not a fan of how they do it. They have huge cases of pre-made sandwiches that you can pick from. Sure, they look great - but just how long have they been sitting there? I imagine they do this so they can get through a lunch rush easier by having all (or at least most) of the sandwiches pre-made. But if I want a pre-made sandwich, I'll go to a convenience store. Hell, I can go to one of those sandwich chains and get a freshly made sandwich for half the price of this place. But maybe the quality makes up for the price and question of freshness. Cuban sandwiches are one of my favorites and if they're on the menu, I've just gotta have one. Doing that also gives me a good benchmark of a place. They took the sandwich out of the case and put it onto the panini press. A few minutes later, I was all set to go. So does it live up to the hype and price? This was without a doubt, the blandest, most boring pressed Cuban I've ever had. Ever. The mustard was incredibly mild. The pickle was flavorless. Worst of all, the sandwich was cold. They just took it off of a hot panini press and the meat was cold. Maybe I'll go back and try one of their sandwiches that are SUPPOSED to be cold, but it'll be a while before I stop in again. read more

Devon & Blakely is overrated and underwhelming. I was not impressed with my recent lunch here, and I think it's because D&B's reach exceeds its grasp. Don't get me wrong -- I like the concept. The salads, sandwiches, soups, and desserts all look enticingly tantalizing. But the place failed to deliver on taste -- which is a big freaking deal when I'm paying this much. I've had a better chicken quesadilla from the grocer's freezer than the one D&B served up, and the carrot cake slice tasted like it was full of ingredients that I couldn't pronounce and that just might not be fit for human consumption. The whole meal was a big disappointment, and I won't be back here anytime soon. read more

This place has great food. Nice looking sandwiches, wonderful salads (you choose your lettuce and then every addition has it's own cost), nice soups. Good for vegetarians!! However, before going into Devon and Blakeley, you must be prepared. This place is the Soup Nazi on steroids. It is crazy! Know what you want before you get there. It also wouldn't be a good place to eat your lunch after getting it.. it's too loud. Most people take them back to their offices, I imagine. You could always go over and sit in the park by the White House and eat.. that sounds just lovely. read more

I'm in here probably 3 times a week for lunch and love it. Great selection of soups, interesting and unorthodox (and tasty!) sandwiches, and a very popular salad line. The Blackened Chicken Gyro is delicious, and I'm a big fan of the Turkey Chili and Italian Wedding Soup (when it's there). The only thing keeping it from hitting 5 stars is that my soup+sandwich usually totals around $11, a little pricey by my estimation. read more

D&B is usually my go-to lunch place when I don't bring food into work. They have an amazing selection and are usually pretty good about serving you quickly. Pro-tip: If you get a sandwich, ask them to double toast it! Otherwise it won't be hot when you eat it, especially if you take it back to your office. read more

Purely on presentation and food quality this place is 4 stars however the it costs a little more than what I would like to spend on regular to go lunch. Best place to go for soup in Metro Center. They have over 15 different soups daily, however if you go later in the day they do run out of some types. I find a large soup fills me up for the whole afternoon. They also have a salad bar with fresh ingredients. They always have a few kinds of vegetarian soups-- my favorite is the lentil. The three bean chili is also delicious! It gets a little crowded, but the service is fast. D&B is best to carry out from. They have a small seating area, but it is usually full during peak lunch hours. Decent prices, fresh and healthy options. D&B is a solid downtown lunch destination. read more

Absolutely adore this place...I so wish they were open all the time with locations beyond city centers. A girl can always hope. Overall, lunch can get really expensive really fast so be forewarned! They have a ton of soups. They are by far your best bet. Except their offerings differ on a daily basis. If you're not sure what to get they'll give you a sample. Do keep in mind you don't want to be "that guy" during the lunch rush so if you're a newbie and looking to figure out which soup is for you I recommend visiting before noon. We went here for lunch today because we weren't quite sure we wanted to go to Cosi or Au Bon Pain and unfortunately a couple of people didn't want to go to the food court. This place is like a really big version of Au Bon Pain with wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups, and some other entrees. The nice thing is that you can grab a pre-made salad bowl of either lettuce or spinach (which I didn't notice was there sadly) and then add all sorts of extra things but of course each additional item is gonna cost you. Actually, that was the big downside to this place - the price. I got a lentil soup and a lettuce (sadly) salad with almonds, mushrooms, and grilled chicken and a bottle of coke for $12 something. A little much but the lentil soup was pretty good and aside from the lettuce the salad was good too. I'm just excited to go back next time and try some of their items and most importantly get the CORRECT salad. read more

Just tried Devon & Blakely for lunch for the first time. The layout of the place was a bit confusing at first, but after a quick sweep around the place, I figured out the flow. I have to say I really appreciated the variety of soups (there was about 12-15 different ones to choose from), a lot of them were vegetarian and vegan - the only animal protein I eat is fish and seafood so it's nice to have good veggie options. Of course, they were out of the one soup that caught my eye - the shrimp and black bean. I didn't quite understand the salad line (didn't see the premade salad bases at first and by the time I had, I'd decided on something else), but may try that next time. I ended up getting the crabcake sandwich. It was $8.95 - this was risky on many levels. That's really cheap for a crab cake of any kind so my expectations were low. Luckily, I found the sandwich pleasant and tasty. Yeah, it's no hand-picked Chesapeake jumbo lump crabcake, but anyone who's expecting that from a lunch counter is kind of delusional IMHO. AND the sandwich came with a side of their yummy sweet potato salad - it took all the pressure (and expense) off of ordering a side. I also noticed that one customer ordered a half sandwich. I didn't see it written anywhere that you could do that, but I'm definitely going to test the waters next visit. I liked D&B a lot and felt compelled to sign up for Yelp just to write this review. I use Yelp all the time to get a snapshot of what folks think about places I want to try, but I've got to say, in general Yelpers are pretty hard on lunch spots in DC! Everyone keeps saying they're so pricey, but I'd like to know what they're comparing it to. I could get a cheaper meal at McDonald's, maybe Potbelly's, and definitely someplace in the 'burbs, but I certainly think $10/day for lunch is the standard downtown and I'm confident you can get something good at D&B for that price. I've worked downtown for a while and maybe my opinion is skewed at this point, but I think a crabcake sammie, a nice side salad, and a tall San Pelligrino for $12 ain't bad. In fact, it's at the very least par for the course for lunch out downtown (the crabcake sandwich at Teaism is $12 on its own). D & B is my FAVORITE place in DC to grab a sandwich or cup of soup. They always have great, freshly made sandwiches - and the soup is out of this world. As with everything in DC, it is a little pricey, but compared to the other options, D and B is well worth it. I highly recommend D and B when visiting DC. read more

I eat here for lunch regularly. I like it, but took a star off for being a little pricey. To be fair, you can work it out so that you get more bang for your buck (get a large container of chicken salad for $18 and you have enough for about 3 sandwiches, so it'd work out to be about $6 per lunch/sandwich), but basically, it is pricey. I like the soups a lot. Most of the food isn't at the level of "Oh my god that's amazing!" but it's good food with fresh ingredients and is pretty healthy for relatively low prices for DC. I skip over Corner Bakery, Cosi, Au Bon Pain and Pret a Manger to get soup at D & B. The selection is great, with several vegetarian friendly ones. The prices vary by soup and there is a large and small size. Corn bread is $1.95. Get this and you'll have the most satisfying and filling winter meal. read more

This is one of my go-to breakfast places in Washington, DC, especially when I want to have a slow start to my day. It's not crowded at all in the morning and I don't feel hurried as I slurp through my soup choice of the day. The servers are also very friendly but not too chirpy. Ok, given that I've been there many times and the food is good...I wonder about their food handling vs labeling. Today is the third time I've ordered the turkey chili there only to get back to my desk to see that it is in fact steak. I've even made the walk back to return the soup the second time this happened and told them the reason. Each time I order, I'm pointing to the correct soup label and the server is ladling soup from the container marked "Turkey Chili". I do not eat beef and it's extremely frustrating to order one thing and get something different that I cannot eat. There is a significant different between Turkey and Steak and with this being the third time over the course of the past month its safe to say that they do this on purpose. This makes me wonder what else is served under the guise of something its not. Is their gluten free really gluten free? Vegetarian?, etc. I won't even bother to return the soup this time...moving forward I will eat elsewhere. read more

Devon & Blakely is neither here nor there. The HIGH: They offer an amazing variety of "meals in a bowl". I went here with a friend who said, "They have too many chowders." That's impossible. A lunch place can never have too many chowders, especially during winter. Dumbass. Try the scallop and bacon chowder, really tasty. Also, the Baja Enchilada soup is really good, a little cheesy and they use dark meat, but the flavors are spot on. Nothing artificial-tasting. The LOW: Poorly designed. The flow doesn't flow. There are no discernable lines so this place is always cramped, people mill about muttering 'Excuse Me' and exchanging dirty looks. And the free bread they offer at the register is awful. I've worked with this location to cater several breakfasts and lunches over the year and have had amazing service! The website is easy to use - but could use at bit more customization in the orders. The staff is very friendly and always on time. The portions are huge and our guests were never left hungry. I would recommend this for anyone looking to cater for small meetings. Wow, I am constantly finding myself surprised at how good the food options are in downtown DC. There are now a handful of sandwich/salad places in this area that I love for lunch (esp Chop't and West Wing Cafe) and now here is another one to add to my list! I absolutely LOVED the soup bar. There were SO many options, and we got a nice creamy mushroom soup that was delicious. But there were many other soups there that I would like to try. As for sandwiches, they wre pre-made, which is usually bad news for me, a supreme hater of sauce/mayonnaise. But to my relief, they had a tomato/mozzerella/basil sandwich with no sauce on it. It turned out to be very good, although not as scrumptious as the soup. One suggestion: it is very confusing upon entering the cafe figuring out which line to be in or where to go. We had to ask around to figure out where exactly the soup line started and the sandwich section was more of a chaotic scrum than a line. Maybe they should have ropes to cordon the lines off like Cosi does? All in all, this is another place that I really like for lunch, though I probably won't be coming back regularly because there are too many places around here that I like for lunch. AND Roti just opened next door. Yipes/Yum. If you have a hankering for some tasty soup and want options to choose from, this is your place! This is an easy lunch take-out deli for those working nearby or just needing a quick bite while touring DC. They have great soups (I tried the lentil) as well as sandwiches and flatbreads that can be pressed panini-style. Their Caprese flatbread is very fresh and flavorful. The portions are good size, but priced a little high. They have desserts galore, which could be very tempting to kids, but were too sweet for my liking. They offer friendly service and there were tables if you want to eat outside. This is a good option for a quick, healthy lunch. They have a variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, and wraps all at fair prices, especially considering the location. I loved the sandwich I got already made out of the display counter. I saw those sprouts and avocado on some really great looking bread, and I had to have it. My wife went with a Greek Salad and some Lentil soup. Everything was good, healthy and tasty, but I feel there was a language gap there, and that we were overcharged. Almost everyone we encountered working at the place was at least bilingual, but surely speaking Spanish. That's OK, but sometimes it was difficult to understand what they were saying, and we weren't always sure they understood us. Hence, the confusion on the bill, and the overcharge. Devon & Blakely is definitely one of my favorite lunch spots, given that its right around the corner and the options are great. Soups: Getting soup here is usually what I go for because they always have a ton of options (18 today) and they always offer a generous hunk of bread (which are delicious). My personal favorite is the split pea soup with ham, which cannot be beat on the slushy/damp days in the city. The veggie lentin and chicken tortilla are also nice. Salads: Extremely customization and come at a good price unless you're the type that needs 10 ingredients in your salad. Sandwiches: Definitely recommend the blackened chicken, I think that's a store favorite. I did wish they would do half sandwiches, but it only applies to wraps. Bottom line: solid lunch option, especially when the line at DT is out the door next door, and the soups are the best cure for a rainy work day. read more

This place exemplifies your typical DC corporate lunchery. Efficient, expensive, and kind of bland. The design-your-own salads are great, but quickly get expensive. The soup options are numerous but they're all variations on starch-thickened, bland goop. You can get goop with rice, goop with noodles, goop with rubbery terrible sausage, vaguely spicy goop, or goop with fake cheese. The coffee here is appallingly bad. I tried it on two occasions, because I thought the first time must have been a fluke; it was just as bad the second time. I can't complain about the sugar-bomb dessert bars though, and their double-chocolate cookie is very good: crisp, powerful, with hints of coconut and walnut. This place is packed for lunch but honestly I wouldn't recommend it I was soooooo disappointed by their gyro that it led me to looking for actual gyro places for the following 2 weeks smh.... thy have a large variety of sandwiches salads and soups amongst other things. Devon & Blakely came highly recommended by a co-worker for sandwiches for a meeting, and while the menu looks delicious, the delivery experience is disappointing. The sandwiches arrived an hour and a half early, and while better than being late, its less than ideal for any hot sandwiches toasted sandwiches which would be cold by the time the meeting started. On the first delivery, they also forgot one of the sandwiches. I called them and they were accommodating, apologizing for the early delivery and the forgotten sandwich and said they would re-deliver the hot sandwich and bring the forgotten item. When they came by the second time, they hadn't even bothered toasting the hot sandwich. When I distributed the sandwiches I noticed they had missed items on the order, delivering an extra smoked turkey instead of a roasted turkey, and mustard on baguette is a far cry from cranberry on pumpernickel. All in all, most of the sandwiches seem half haphazardly thrown together, dry with barely any spread, and tasted like they could have been made the day before and refrigerated overnight. While I can't vouch for the experience of lunch time customers, their delivery service is a disappointing experience I recommend against. read more
