Drove to OBX for fam vacation on Saturday and had a the engine light come on, we got to our destination and I saw a leak from the undercarriage. First thing Monday (the busiest day for all shops), I called and Tami got me in for Tuesday AM. I called around to other places but no one had any availability. Drove to drop off my Ford Expedition around 3pm and Chris happened to be there, he immediately asked what was going on and threw the truck up on the lift asap to diagnose the problem. I didn't have to wait until the next AM. He found the hole/tear in the transmission hose and called around to find the part. No luck on that in the area (friday was the earliest part delivery), he provided a faster solution of using another hose to replace and clamp the ends (our checkout was Thursday same week). We tried to get a Lyft back over the bridge but there weren't any drivers in the area, he volunteered to drive us back. Chris and Tami were so nice and went above and beyond with their kindness. Next day, Chris had a hard time finding the right hose (which he had to pickup himself) he didn't go the cheap route and ordered the better quality hose which he said was a racing quality hose. I wish he was closer to me in MD, I would go back to get all my work done by them. We were on vacation in OBX and had car trouble due to a failing sensor. The local Chevy dealer couldn't service the car for 2 weeks so we looked elsewhere and found Devlin. I had a business day trip to Duck when my low tire light came on. A friend recommended Chris and we called immediately. I made an appointment for that afternoon and then I arrived early. Chris politely greeted me with a smile and a handshake, inspected the car right then and gave me the best and worst scenario for my issue. It was a bolt in the brand new run-flat tire. Chris grabbed his phone and sourced another tire - I had to get home that night. He was already busy when I got there but he juggled and got right to work for me. Before he ordered the new tire, he pulled the wheel to make sure that it couldn't be patched...I've had a number nail-in-tire run flat issues and knew in advance there was a slim chance it could be patched. I was floored when the plug was an option and I gladly accepted it. There was no up-selling, no irritation that I needed it now, nothing but kindness and going the extra mile. When he told me how much it would cost, it was half what I paid in DC recently for the same issue and not much more than I had paid for lunch that day. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes. This was, by far, the best car related experience of a 50+ year life and I highly recommend Devlin! He's one of the good guys. read more

Thought i was a tough girl driving my JEEP on the 4x4 beach on day 2 of my vacation. Turns out, i'm tougher than the car because i ripped the skip plate half off by tearing through the rugged terrain. I called Devlin, they got me in immediately, didn't laugh at me (which they should have) and charged me next to nothing. They have an ADORABLE shop cat who kept me entertained during my short visit. Very honest and excellent service. My family was on vacation in OB and were staying on 4x4 beach when the grommet on my transfer shifter broke. I was stuck in 2 wheel drive in Duck and could not get back up the beach to get my family. This happened around noon on July 3rd as everyone was preparing to shut down for the holiday. I called Devlin and they said come on over. Chris, the owner, heard my predicament and put me right up on the lift. He fixed it within an hour and I was able continue vacationing with my family. He could have charged me an arm and a leg because I was really stuck in tough situation. However, he barely charged me anything. Honesty is not a trait you see too often in the car repair industry, but Chris is a shining example of a hard working, honest man. I had ordered tires from Amazon...a brand I could not get locally. A friend suggested calling Chris Devlin to have them installed. This is a small automotive repair shop with a personal touch. Chris cares about his customers and it shows. We set up an appointment so I wouldn't have to leave the car and come back. They were kind of busy when I arrived so he got a late start. Two hours later I was out the door. That was the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. However, there is a comfortable couch with WiFi hookup so the time went quickly. Chris noticed I had corrosion on my wheels from winter road salt and ground that away so the tires would have a tight fit, no leaking of air as in the past. Relying on "word of mouth" to build his business he has become very busy and successful over the years. His price was more than fair! I will be back sometime soon, in time for my next service. read more
