Our A/C hose backed up about 4 hours into our trip to OBX, causing alot of water coming in from behind our dashboard. Took the car to Southside without a reservation and the crew cleared the blockage with an air compressor. Our mechanic refused to take any money because the fix was so easy. Great service, great people. Don't be a sucker and take your car to the places on the actual island of Outer Banks- they will overcharge you and rip you off. We got our Traverse (AWD) stuck in the sand on the beach b/c I was an idiot and undervalued the importance of clearance vs. 4WD/AWD. Long story short after bury the front end in the sand and digging to get out, the car was shaking violently at anything over 40 MPH. Clearly the tires needed rebalanced and possible alignment. All the shops on the island either wouldn't even take a look b/c "the job was too small" or they said it would be 1.5 weeks before they could get to it. We were leaving Friday to drive back to OH so we couldn't wait that long. Woody, John, etc. at Soundside are fantastic. They quoted the job right on point to industry norm prices (under $150 for full alignment, balancing, and removing a LOT of sand) and were understanding of the time constraints. They were off the island so it was a pretty long haul to get there (about $73 uber lyft ride), but well worth it. I highly recommend Soundside if you need car work in the Outer Banks area. I would almost give them 5 stars, they do good work and I have been using them for 10 years with no issues. When I could no longer trust the KDH Jeep dealer I found Soundside Auto and have been going back with 4 different cars and they always take good care of me. I sure miss Jeremy that use to work there, but ..... They still take good care of me and my cars. I have sent a few vacationers there when they ask where they can get service done since I work in one of the rental companies here. read more

These guys are great. I'm moving in a few days and have noticed my brakes grinding lately, but only the first time I drive in a day. They were able to look at it the day I called. They didn't hear the sound but kept it overnight to see if they could hear it on a fresh start. The problem was just rust on the rotors. They didn't do a bunch of stuff (like change the brake pads that were fine) that I didn't need so they could charge me, and they were very friendly. Great service! Dropped a tire off with no appointment. They said they could fix the flat but didn't think they'd have time to mount it. When I returned near closing time, they said they could mount it if I could wait a half hour. They not only mounted the tire but re-hung the donut under the car. $23.23 total! read more

$45 for a a headlight???!!! I'm from NYC and I think that's outrageous!!! Then on top of that, an issue I was already aware of (noisy wheel bearing which my mechanic at home told me that its noisy, but not dangerous and I could wait to fix with no issues) they are trying to scare my wife and I into thinking our wheel is gonna fall off any moment! The woman at the desk said something like five times about it even though I said I was aware of it and knew the ramifications. It's been like that for a year! NOW it's gonna fall off??? Never again! Owner, John, is the rudest business owner I've ever come across. Called to see about getting air in tires before work and when I show up I'm ignored while he has phone on hold. Holding phone but obviously waiting for person to come to line means you have time to talk to customer in front of you. Even a hello I'll be with you in a moment but no. After 5 min I say why I'm there and he says nothing. Then about 2-3 min later tells me I have to get my dog out of car. When no one came still to get the car I decided to leave and take care of later. Over weekend I see a duplicate charge for services from Soundside. I show up Monday morning to show them and I'm met with, before I uttered a word, " you have to find somewhere else to take your car". No problem! Angry bald man won't even address my situation or even write down info about overcharge but instead THREATENS a long time generational customer with calling police if I don't leave?! You do t have to ask twice. I'm gone. I'll take my concern to my bank and my auto business to someone who treats there customers and employees with kindness and respect. I certainly didn't do anything to warrant this type of treatment. I'm only sorry we've given them as much business as we had over the years. Try R&R or Beach Ready. read more

Dear Yelp, I recently had an incredible customer service experience near the Outer Banks. I thought my tire simply had a slow leak and went to fill it. It turned out the air pump at a gas station just across the bridge was not working properly and actually sucked air out of my tire. I limped along about a block and stumbled across Soundside Auto/Tire Center. Not only did one of the gentlemen greet me promptly and with concern, he pointed out a nail in the tire, had me in and out in 10 minutes and charged me $14.00 for the repair. I was blown away. As a single Mom with very little automative knowledge, they could have easily taken advantage of me as is all too often the case. Just had some work done on my car. They gave me an up front price for diagnosis. When they called they found a problem and had fixed it. They only charged me for the diagnosis. I feel they are trustworthy and very knowledgeable. I will definitely use them again. read more

Just moved to the area was looking for a good place to start taking our vehicles. First off the prices seem to rape you. Second I got four tires mounted that were in good condition, not even a day after mounting one front tire went flat. They cut the tire while mounting it on the rim and instead of replacing it they put one of my badly worn old tires back on. I waited in the waiting room with a 2 month old baby to pay your over priced bill and get screwed. Thanks for your poor service read more

I initially took my Tahoe here for a state inspection which resulted in the back brakes being completely rebuilt. It has 172K on it so this was no surprise. As soon as I drove the 5 miles home and parked it, all the antifreeze leaked out in the driveway. After I checked it out, I saw the case was cracked on the drivers side. It has a lot of miles on it so I thought nothing of it. Took it back to Soundside, had radiator replaced. I had been considering replacing the tires and decided to use Soundside. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE!!! After they over charged for the tires, I started it on their property, only to discover that the computer says the battery isn't charging, and the gauge is reading 9 volts??!! At this point it became obvious to me that they were destroying my truck as they were fixing it. By all means, stay away from this shop. I will add that I am a full time resident here and work for a realty company that has an account for their vehicles here and they are aware of this!!!! Very bad people!!! STAY AWAY!!!! read more
