I took my vehicle to Beach Ready for a leaking coolant system and a leaking air conditioner. After several hundred dollars in tests, I was informed that neither system was leaking, even though I was refilling both systems weekly. I took the vehicle back after a few weeks and insisted that the air conditioner was leaking. This time they found the leak and fixed it, but I did not get any credit towards repair from the previous bad diagnosis. I took the vehicle back recently for the still-leaking coolant system, but was told that it was not leaking initially (it has been leaking continuously) and that I would have to start over with another $140 pressure test to find the leak. No discussion. Never mind; I can find somewhere else. read more

I had a radiator leak and brought it here to get fixed. They fixed it for a cool $900 and they gave me a list of things "wrong" with my car. The heater core was on the list and they wanted to charge me another $600 to fix that. I said no and they bypassed it for the time being. Fast forward a couple months and I get the heater core tested elsewhere. And it turns out there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. What a bunch of snakes buyer beware. read more

I took in a 23 year old car with only 65k miles on it. I just wanted to make sure all was running well when I moved to the area. Due to age, the ground wire and head gasket needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, the ground wire was no longer available from the manufacturer or anywhere for purchase. Beach Ready Auto MADE my ground wire and worked patiently to make sure the car ran well and had no issues. They also replaced old hoses at no cost to me as part of the work. I have had to take it back twice for a few little tweaks, but that is to be understood for a 23 year old car whose engine was taken apart. Each time they were patient and fast in putting in a new hose or tightening up anything that may have shifted during the work. These guys are great. They're honest. They are interested in getting you back on the road. And they are reasonably priced. They even gave me a ride home when I had to leave the car overnight. I couldn't ask for a better mechanic in the Outer Banks. I've referred two people and they are just as happy as I am. Highly recommended! read more

I drive a Volvo and was on vacation in the outer banks, NC when the driver side seatbelt locked. I called Volvo and thought we we going to have to dive 1 1/2 hrs to Hampton Roads to get it fixed. One local Auto repair shop told us they could not work on it cause they were sure we need a new seat belt. I called Beach Ready Auto Repair and they said to bring it by and he would take a look. Jean Murillo Sr. took a look and was able to remove a bolt and get the belt to retract! The nicest part was he would not take money or a tip. I drove down to Corolla NC for Spring Break last week, and near the end of my drive, my belts on my Acura started making a whining noise. I arrived safely, searched Yelp, and called Beach Ready and explained my problem. They were very professional on the phone, and we made an appointment to bring my car in. Dealing with auto service companies, whether a car dealership or independent repair shop, is often a lousy experience. You feel like you're not getting the straight story, that they'll address your problem but create 2 more to jack up the bill. I received the opposite treatment from Beach Ready. They diagnosed my problem, called me and offered a very fair price. And didn't have any "Oh, and one more thing" problems. Be very careful if you choose this place. When I was on vacation, I needed brake work. I should have gotten it done before vacation, but ran out of time. Anyway, I knew I needed either my front or rear brakes done, not both. I told them to fix what needed to be fixed because I didn't want to drive 700 miles home with bad brakes. They called and told me that both front and rear needed to be replaced. I questioned them and they made it seem legit. Worried that I was going to be stuck with bad brakes on the drive home, I panicked and told them to do what they recommended. A couple months later when I visited my service shop, which I trust completely, they noticed my new brakes during a routine oil change. They asked if I got new brakes on rear and front. I explained what happened. They told me I had about 40% of the brake pad left on my last visit and while I needed brake repair on one end of the car, I didn't need it on both. I definitely got duped by this place. Embarrassed for sure. Just hope others are smarter than I was with this place. I would not trust them. They will try to sell you more than what you need. read more

Had a great experience here! Was driving down to the outer banks for the week on vacation when my "brake wear" light came on. I took it here and they did a full diagnostic and let me know that I needed to replace all of my brake pads. They gave me the price estimate and I told them to go ahead. They called me back within a few hours to let me know that my car was all ready to go, but after further inspections they ended up only needing to replace 2 of the break pads, saving me about $250. The customer service was great and when all was said and done it took about 48 hours. Highly recommend! read more

21 years owning a car and having repairs and maintenance done and this was by far the worst experience ever. Took my car in for a loud metal on metal noise on cold starts, obvious it was coming from the top end of the motor in the heads or cams. After a couple days their initial diagnosis was 'valve adjustment' was needed. They called my warranty company, who denied the claim, stating that is routine maintenance, ok I get that. Next thing is the valves are fine, now it's the timing chain that needs replacing. I asked if they called the warranty company and filed a claim for this new diagnosis. Told her, and they also denied it as routine maintenance. Well, they had me believing the timing chain was the root of the issue, so I agreed to let them repair it. Once they finally got it done, I paid over $1400 to them. And guess what. The very next day when I started it, the same exact noise was still there! I drove it for a few days, and found a different shop to check it over. The new shop found the cam lobes were worn from an unknown cause and showed definite wear to them. The chrome coat was gone and they looked like a brillo had been taken to them. The new shop called my warranty company, who then sent an adjuster. He looked at the cams, heard the noise from the motor and immediately said it needed the engine replaced. I waited a couple weeks after the new engine was in and left a letter to the owner and a copy of the receipt from their failed repairs at the shop requesting a partial refund. About 2 weeks later, the owner calls me and feeds me a line of lies. Claims they called the warranty company about the timing chain, and says they were rude and denied it. Says they were told I have a ' low tier' warranty that didn't cover timing chains. Well......about that. I have been emailing back and forth with the warranty company. The shop never called and tried to get the timing chain covered, and if they did it was covered. So it's blatantly apparent I was lied to, and was ripped off for close to $1500. At no point did the shop that ended up replacing the motor ever feel the warranty folks were rude, and were actually helpful and got the motor replaced as quick as they could. I have never felt they were rude to myself either. Just excuses from this shop to cover their butts. read more

Had 2 great weeks in OBX only to have car troubles the last day in Corolla. Fortunately it was a Friday, unfortunately no one could look at my friends Volvo for more than a week and we were due to return home on Saturday. We believed her Volvo was leaking power steering fluid but we needed to be sure of the problem because we needed to drive 10 hours home. Beach Ready Auto said they could look at it at 2pm that day, so I followed my friend to the shop. The guys were very accommodating to two females. Jean and Brian inspected the car. Unfortunately they were not able to repair it on the spot, but they were very detailed in their assessment and they even got on the phone with my friends hometown mechanic just to make her feel comfortable that she could get her car home. They even went as far as allowing us to keep the car there overnight so that we didn't have to drive it all the way back to our house in Corolla. Raymond, Jean and Brian were awesome. For anyone that may have the misfortune of having auto troubles while vacationing in OBX, it's worth the drive to the mainland, they will take good care of you. read more

Today was my first time coming into Beach Ready Auto. I had just gotten my vehicle back from being in a different shop for two weeks, and was still having issues with it. I took it back to the same shop that had it, and was told they couldn't fix it and it was some huge problem that they couldn't figure out and I would need to take it to another mechanic. I only had one day off and needed it fixed today, so that I could drive to & from work this week. After checking a few other places that couldn't get me in, I came to beach ready auto an explained my situation and they made time to squeeze me in. I was only there for about an hour (if that) and it was a much simpler and less expensive problem than I was originally told it would be by the last shop it was in. The man at the front desk (Raymond) was very nice & helpful. He was able to answer all my questions and was very understanding. If I ever have another issue with my vehicle, I will be going to them first. On vacation at the OBX when our Tahoe developed a disconcerting sound. Rear end going bad? Axle, breaks? Called BR and spoke with Nick. Told me to stop by and they would be happy to check it out. Within minutes, the problem was diagnosed. Parking brake pad had broken and was rattling around providing the intermittent sound that I was hearing.HVACe me a reasonable estimate and said they could have the parts ordered and on my way within two hours. To the minute and within $5 of the estimate, they were done. Nice waiting area, friendly staff, they get 5 stars from me easily. Through Yelp, I came to this auto repair shop. They more than lived up to the positive reviews. They were incredibly honest when most other shops would probably have told me work was needed. I only paid 45 dollars for diagnosis of a funny sound in the car. They decided nothing was wrong in spite of an occasional funny sound in the engine - in wanting to make sure, they had three of their mechanics drive test and check out the car. Very friendly staff who go above and beyond to help. We recently had a fuel line crack, which stranded us on our way back home. We were able to make it to the shop and were immediately provided excellent service. It turns out they don't make the part we needed anymore, but the mechanic was able to problem solve and come up with a solution to get us back home.
