We called Robert (his business was the 5th try) and he agreed to work on our truck when others wouldn't give us the time of day. The truck was towed there on Tuesday and was fixed by 9:30 Wednesday morning. Robert's pricing was honest and reasonable and he finished in a timely manner so we could continue our vacation. This is a great story. Please, read all of it! While vacationing in OBX, my car's alternator died. I found these guys, saw the great review and went for it. The tow truck driver tried to talk me out of going here, and I should have listened. I'll admit, the fix took only a day and a half and the price wasn't that bad, I guess. Then the fun started. About a week after returning from vacation, I noticed a knocking under the hood. It was subtle at first, but then it grew. I had my mechanic take a look. He literally popped the hood, didn't even bend over to look, pointed at the back of the engine and said, "There's your problem." There is a valve that has something to do with the catalytic converter that sits directly over the alternator. The hose going into the valve had not just come loose; the valve was broken in half. You could just see where someone had lifted the alternator out and broke the valve in the process. And here's the kicker: what looked like gorilla glue was clumped all over the broken pieces of the valve. (refer to pictures, notice the glue that dripped down to the engine cover) I asked my mechanic if that was an adequate fix. He just laughed. Even if it was what you are supposed to do when such a valve is broken, these guys didn't say a word about how they had broken a completely different part. It makes wonder if that is why the price was so reasonable. But I'm not done. So, I called them back and explained the situation, asking for some kind of compensation. The guy immediately insisted that the part broken was nowhere near the alternator. (calling me a liar?) After some arguing, he told me he would look up my info in his system and call me back. That was months ago, and I haven't heard a word. Look, I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I'm just telling my story. Tourists beware! read more

Do not take your vehicle to Robert at obx Mobile engines. He will rip you off. He will quote you one price and charge you thousands more without notifying you of a change in the agreed upon price. Then when you dispute this outrageous difference he will do damage to your vehicle. He ripped appart my dash broke my air conditioning control and stole my radio. If I hadn't paid him he would have done much worse. I called the nags head police department. They were no help. They came out took my statement then informed me that this was not criminal it was civil and that they can do nothing. Save yourself a lot of trouble do not take your vehicle to Robert at obx Mobile engines. You will regret it. read more

The owner, Robert, was A+ in care! Our AC went out half way through our 11 hour journey down to Outer Banks. We went to Pugh Car Care and were quoted $1400. Found Outer Banks Mobile Engine on Yelp and gave Robert a call. His quote based on what Pugh said I needed done, was only $1043. I took it to Robert and he checked it out before replacing what was thought to be needed. Turned out Pugh was wrong. Robert and his guys fixed my car up and it cost me less. This business is not on the main street and thus likely not known very well, but very worth it! read more
