I was in Fraser in June for a long weekend and my boyfriend and I went to the spa at Devil's Thumb. We were able to get a couple's massage with only a day's notice. The staff was great, very friendly and accommodating. Afterwards we sat outside and enjoyed wine and cheese and of course the beautiful mountain views. We didn't stay at the resort but would definitely love to do so in the future and see what else the hotel and resort has to offer. read more

I cannot say enough things about DTR. The location is stunningly beautiful, and the lodge itself is wonderful--so cozy and relaxing. There can be many people around but it still feels very calm and quiet because of all the little nooks for sitting, reading, napping, etc. There is an attention to detail in the appointments that I almost never see in the U.S. The spa is also beautiful--a complete experience. But what really sets DTR apart is the staff. They really make you feel welcome, will do just about anything to enhance your experience. I have to make special note of our server, David, from lunch and dinner last night. He was gracious, personable, and really added to our experience in a very pleasant way. All in all, DTR is just about my favorite place to be. read more

Oh my! We celebrated Mother's Day with brunch at Devil's Thumb. It was FABULOUS!!! The resort is amazing on it's own and the dining area is equally terrific. The food was well prepared with a wonderful selection. Unlimited mimosa's for the two mothers at the table as well. The service is also five star. Our waitress was friendly and very attentive. We grabbed a list of the other upcoming special events they have planned including Memorial Day, Fourth of July and their barbecue and are planning to attend at least one of them. This place is definitely a treat! read more

The best family vacation we've had in years!!! We spent 5 days and 4 nights there the first week of Feb, 2014. There aren't enough superlative adjectives to describe the experience we had during our stay. We stayed in one of the two bedroom Cabins (a log cabin style house) that was tastefully decorated, exceptionally clean, with a great fireplace, comfortable beds, and a exquisite view across the ranch. It was minutes away from the main Lodge which has everything one could need. Heck's has a great Happy Hour, really good food, and a wait staff that was exceptional. Every employee we met was pleasant, friendly, and professional....they all went out of their way to do whatever they could to make our stay memorable. The Cross-country skiing was exceptional!!! The Spa facilities were top notch and welcome after a day outdoors. Devils Thumb is the real deal!!!! read more

Beautiful hotel/resort, terrible experience. I will never recommend them for any type of wedding or event. The customer service for our event was non-existent. The only time I could get a response, via phone or email, was when they needed to collect deposits and payments. Don't waste your money, there are plenty of better options in the mountains! read more

A great stay and time during Tommelfest in early Dec 2015. Staff were all incredible (I saw some negative staff comments on yelp but I had days of outstanding service from all there)...from checking in with many bags, front desk people were constantly asking if they could help as I passed, to the ski shop, the staff at the stables, masseuse at the spa, Heck's bar (very friendly bartender), coffee shop (although their espresso machine always seems to malfunction), to the dining hall manager who was extremely helpful (his bright red sweater was fun) with arranging tables for us, helping with orders and food delivery during the busy times. Room was great...great view of the valley, huge bathroom. I love just walking out of the hotel, skiing up and down the beautiful valley, then hitting the hot tub. If I have to say anything negative, it would be the price of the rooms, they need a second hot tub and that the rooms can be a bit dark (but this is the décor). read more

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. We traveled with family members and needed two rooms. The reservation was booked under the same name yet, we were placed in two totally separate buildings at opposite ends of the resort. When we asked if we could be placed closer together we were told that the manager personally assigns rooms and the placement is based on whether you are a repeat visitor. We were told there was no way our rooms could be moved, without so much as an apology. In our rooms, the wifi was constantly failing, and when we called to have it fixed, we were always told there was a work order put in, but hours and hours would go by without resolution. In addition, two of the three nights we were there, our tv didn't work at all. We asked for it to be fixed, but never was. We checked the first day we got there to see if could get dinner reservations the second night we were there at the restaurant connected to the lobby. We were told they would get back to us. We never heard from them. We then went down for breakfast the second day and again asked about a reservation for dinner. We were able to get a reservation(made with a manager)for dinner for two high top tables that night. When we got to dinner, we were told that one of our high top tables was given to another guest, and all 6 of us had to squeeze at one high top table. They didn't apologize, and told us because the manager who made the reservation was had left for the day there was nothing they could do for us. Literally no apologies provided, instead one of the managers proceeded to scream at us and stormed off. While we were squeezed at one high top table, we heard another couple unhappily talking to the manager, it turns out two years in a row the restaurant had lost their reservation despite the reservation being confirmed multiple times. Lastly, the only road to and from the resort was incredibly dangerous. It was ice covered. In one day we saw three accidents. The night manage told us in one week they had 30 accidents on the road. Please don't go to this resort. It is absolutely awful!!! read more

I was married here. Gorgeous location, very nice rooms. Much of the staff is very pleasant and accommodating to guests. To set this up, I should say we are an extremely laid back and fun couple, and we had an amazing wedding. However, we had a nightmare with the wedding department. The person assigned to us (Anna) rarely returned phone calls or emails, and made promises that never happened. Our contract was grossly incorrect on several occasions. She told us we would receive a final BEO for the wedding, it never happened. We never saw her the entire time we stayed at the ranch, even though we sought her out twice. She told our wedding planner on the day of the wedding that she was 'babysitting everyone.' The room set-up for the ceremony and reception was never given to staff by our assigned wedding person, and despite speaking with her one week before the wedding about having an OPEN BAR the entire night, the bar went to cash bar in the middle of the reception. We were told there would be no tip jar, yet there was. They didn't have the right linen sizes for their own tables. Multiple guests had HUGE issues making reservations. I could go on and on, but I expect a lot more from this place, especially because we were spending so much to have our wedding here. Please be careful if you are planning a wedding here. Please note that the wifi is horrible, and no one gets phone service, making organizing groups very difficult. read more

Went to DTR with friends for lunch last weekend and the service was terrible! There was a short wait for a table so we went to the bar for a drink. The bartender came over and just said "do you know what you want?"...no smile, hello, how are you, offer a drink menu, nothing. I asked for the wine list and my friend ordered a Bloody Mary. He said "I don't have any clean pint glasses" and just stared at my friend. Wow! My friend said "well I'm happy to wait for a clean one, or you can just use a different glass". The bartender scowled and made the drink in an alternate glass. We ordered a bottle of $80 white wine which took about 10 minutes for him to find it & then He put the bottle & glasses in front of us and just walked away. I asked him if he was going to pour it for us and he said "if you want me to?". Are you serious?! When a patron orders a bottle of wine you are absolutely expected to present it and pour it! He did not come back over to pour it, so we helped ourselves. We got our table and ordered lunch. Our server was pleasant also did not do a great job. We had to ask for plates and roll ups after our apps had arrived. The food runner dropped our meat and cheese boards off without telling us what was on it. No clue what the different items were. We had to ask our server for water 3 times. Then she auctioned off our food when it was delivered. This is a nice establishment, the servers should be able to hand out the plates without guessing and yelling across the table. When the check came she stated she could not split the check between two cards. This is ridiculous! Every restaurant system can split checks! Needless to say this was a very disappointing experience. DTR is supposed to be a high quality establishment with high quality service. read more

Let me start by saying the RESORT itself is amazing. So beautiful, and secluded, but at the same time, you have everything you need right there, from fine dining, to sunrise yoga. I love Devil's Thumb Ranch. My main complaint is about the manager on staff, Jennifer something. There is nothing she did to me directly as a guest. But as a person who has worked in the service industry for over 6 years, I was absolutely disguised by the way she treated her staff. I saw her actually call an employee who was OFF SHIFT and demand that they come back in, in order to take of a car issue, which she herself seemed capable of taking care of, as she was on shift as the director. Despicable. IDK, maybe I'm old fashioned, but I do believe that everyone should have a service job at some point in there life. Because I feel it is important to judge a company by how they treat their employees. It made me feel uncomfortable to witness... read more

I recently visited Devil's Thumb twice. Both times, same experience. This property is amazing. Absolutely breathtaking. The food at both restaurants is also very good. The customer service in Hex's and at the front desk is sub standard, seemed poorly trained in basic customer service and in the end is a big negative to the experience at Devil's Thumb. Very odd interactions, sometimes borderline rude, in the restaurant, bar and front desk. Often there seemed to be confusion and delays in deciding who was going to help us, we could see the staff discussing who needed to wait on us more than once. Also, why does this nice resort not give the employees a tour so they can answer guest questions and be helpful, much less "hosting" a guest and letting them know about wonderful amenities and opportunities? As in, where is the pond or how do we get to the pool? Why are there never spoons with morning coffee and cream? Why does the hostess stare at you as though it's your move first when you arrive at the restaurant? If the whole patio is empty are you sure you can't let me choose a table to best enjoy the view? I am the ONLY ONE OUT HERE! Really?! We paid $400 for the room for a night and we cannot possibly keep the room an extra 30 minutes? Why was there chocolate on my chair in the restaurant that got all over my white pants? For the caliber of resort this is suppose to be, I feel that the customer service is way off standard. The housekeepers and Bells service were right on, however. In the future I will look for other options the next time I want a special mountain get away.. read more

I was looking forward to spending three days at the resort with my daughter and her family. I booked two rooms under one reservation through Expedia 6 months prior to my stay. When we checked in my daughter's family was placed in the lodge with all the amenities listed on their web page. We were put in a handicapped room that was in a different lodge that we had to drive to. The parking for this lodge was a hefty walk and no valet was available. The internet did not work nor did the television. The shower was tiny the size of a wheel chair and the hand shower head came up to my shoulder. When we asked to be changed and put near my daughter we were told that no room changes were ever made. My husband spoke to the night manager and he told him the manager personally assigned the rooms and all returning guests were placed first. I have no problem with that but the manager told us anyone else was out of luck. Terrible service, rude front desk staff we will not be returning. So unless you are a returning guest or know the manager personally. Do not stay here. read more

We had the best experience, had left an item and was able to confirm it found within minutes! We visited for a friend's wedding. Yes, at the resort things are more expensive... but we expected that (as you would for a ski resort). We had the Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap at the coffee shop and while it did take time for them to make up the sandwich fresh... it was delicious (and I think fairly priced ~$10)! This place is breathtaking. Our 15 month son LOVED the stables area with the various animals. And, when we left our son's pupply blankie (gasp) when we checked out (of our hotel room, so not a separate cabin) -- we were able to call and get immediate, friendly service from the front desk to retrieve Mr Puppy to get him sent home with a friend. So perhaps there was a lesson learned by the ranch from the 11/1 posting as we could not have had better service. Even housekeeping was extremely accommodating for our nap schedule needs while we were there. (If I had any complaint, it would be a price of the beverages and the availability of the wifi service within the hotel.) Without a doubt, we would go back and we would definitely recommend this resort to others. It was an unbelievably beautiful setting for our friends' wedding! read more

Thank you Devil's Thumb Ranch for making our ten year anniversary as good as it could be. From check in to check out your staff was fabulous and attentive. The room was spacious and well appointed. The bathroom had a large river rock shower in addition to a large soaking tub. The balcony looked out over the continental divide and afforded amazing views. We came up primarily to hike and there are lots of different options. The grounds here are well maintained and marked and we enjoyed the blue haze trail. It wasn't crowded and the people, and horses, we encountered were friendly and accommodating. The amenities outside the room are plentiful as well. The options for activities and rental is almost endless and would include anything one would want to do on a mountain ranch. From horseback riding, to mountain biking, to free paddle board yoga classes. I will definitely be staying here again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a ranch experience. read more
