Ultimately I would have much preferred to have overnighted in the town of Grand Lake, Colorado...a lot closer to Rocky Mountain, NP. Unfortunately rooms were ultra expensive in that quaint little town, so I "bit the bullet" and drove 35 miles away to stay here in Winter Park. I spent $100 plus tax for a Friday night. I was pleasantly surprised how big the room was. Besides 2 queen sized beds, accommodations included a lounge chair, plenty of closet space and an extended area for the bathroom. The spaciousness of the room was absolutely the best part of the motel! I checked in relatively late evening (8pm) and there were no issues. Parking was free and right in the back of the building. Valley Hi is located in the center of Winter Park with plenty of options for food all over town. There is free continental breakfast and coffee offered in the morning with your stay but the following day I had a long drive and grabbed food on the road. Although I was ideally looking for accommodations within the confines of the western part of Rocky Mountain National Park, Valley Hi Motel was more than a suffice place to put my head down and rest for the evening. If you're exploring in the Winter Park/Fraser area, I'd give the green light to come here.

They did have some GF / gluten free for celiacs like me with some gluten free choices like a yogurt or smoothie but to me, it feels more like they were going to stock that anyway than that they were to trying to attract the gluten free community. Poor GF labeling and no "good choices" were mentioned like a bacon, egg, and cheese or something. Still - the staff were cool and the beer selection was good. It really depends what you are looking for. If you want a beer, go here. If you are celiac, there are other choices nearby that have better labeling.

Rooms were clean and well maintained, and had all of the basics you would need. Everything related to a ski day was nice here - had storage for skis and boots so that you didn't have to bring them to your room. In the morning they have a nice spread for breakfast including fruit and cereal, and also have some hot items including eggs, toast, sausage, and bacon. Definitely enough to get you fueled and ready for the day. Then there is a van they run that takes you right to the gondola leaving at 8:30, 9, 9:30. Taking the first van gets you there right for the start of day. And you don't have to worry about parking, walking, and paying at the resort. Rides back were at 3:15 and 4:15 which gave plenty of time at the mountain. I didn't get a chance to try the hot tub but it looked nice. There were some cozy spots in the lounge with fireplaces to sit and relax. And a ping pong table that a few kids were using to stay entertained. Parking here was convenient, and the location is good; very close to everything in Winter Park. Overall I was very impressed with this stay. I will definitely look here first when looking for a place to stay in Winter Park moving forward. I thought it was a fair value, and the amenities made for easy ski days where all I had to do was get dressed and show up to the van on time, and not worry about anything else.

Our instructor was super friendly and helpful, made sure we were safe and showed us all the best spots/views. It was cold at the top, so be sure to bundle up! 2 hour was the perfect duration for us as we started to feel the cold and tire out/get hungry. I want to let folks know they should not use this service…read more Here is our story. In February, we booked a shuttle between Denver and Granby to C Lazy U ranch. The driver picked us up early from the airport which we thought was great, however the ride to the ranch was not pleasant. 1. The driver (Austin) spent most of the drive texting even after we pointed out that he should not be texting while driving. He tried to hide that he was doing this. Texting and driving is illegal and and dangerous. We were on winding mountain roads. The fact that we asked him to stop and he continued is reason for termination. 2. He drove very slowly and behind huge semis for most of the ride. 3. He talked incessantly about non-sense annoying us. For our ride back, he stranded us. We had a 5am pick up from our ranch. We received a reminder the night before stating it was a 5am pick up. He texted at 4am telling us he will be there soon. We responded saying our ride is for 5am pick up, but he didn't respond. He wasn't there at 5 am. We tied calling him but he didn't pick up. He finally texted us back and said we missed the shuttle because we weren't ready at 4am and to call the office. Well it was 5:30am and the office didn't open until 8am. We had a 10:20 flight which is 2.5 hrs from Granby. What the hell? Apparently, in very fine print somewhere it says that there is this 55 min window before your scheduled pick up time when you have to be ready, but it was not communicated in any materials except the fine print. Overall their communication is terrible and their customer service is worse. With this very strange rule (why would I be ready for pick up at 4am if all the reminders say 5am?!?!?) they should be reminding their customers. When we did get in touch with the office they said "too bad we don't refund for missed rides." They wouldn't even consider that they didn't effectively communicate their "rule". I have no problem with clear rules however this "rule" was not clear, they didn't call it out to us, they didn't remind us in any comms, at drop off the driver didn't remind us, and all the confirmation texts and emails said a 5am pick up. Management clearly doesn't care about their customers. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

The staff is really friendly. They serve hotdogs and drinks which is great after tubing for 90 minutes. The lines moved right along and there was someone at the bottom to help out. The lodge was nice and warm for me. Plus it's locally owned and not some corporation. The hill was a little bare (outside their control) but the tubes still flew down the hills.

There were 3 people working the trip, a driver and 2 guides. They had all of our avalanche gear ready to go in backpacks, lunch was on the snowcat waiting for us and they gave a nice complimentary water bottle. They gave us avalanche beacons and a showed us how to use them, tested them to make sure they worked, and gave us a safety briefing along with an explanation of how the 2 guides work together to make things as safe as possible - I definitely felt super safe in the hands of the guides, it was clear that they knew what they were doing. The snowcat was very comfortable and they are very focused on customer service at all times. Now, to the skiing...... Great guides. We were skiing on a day that had interesting conditions. Being a "ridge rat" at Loveland I was well aware of a storm that came in a few days earlier and blew most of the snow off the high mountains leaving not much but wind blown snow. That was certainly the conditions we were seeing everywhere, but the guides had ideas and they were really good ones. They knew their terrain very well and found us some powder that ranged from decent to awesome - mostly awesome. We did have to do some hiking off of the cat to get to the stashes, but it was well worth it and not a big deal. Being a "bit older" I took the hikes kind of slowly, but never felt pressured, and was always reassured that it was no big thing by the guides. We took 8 or 9 runs. Here is the fun part - we never took the same run twice - even though there were some I really wouldn't have minded to ski again, the guides stepped it up with every run. Not only was each run different, but we were the only people who had skied on any of them - first tracks all day long. The runs were super fun - a mix of wide open and somewhat tight. My nephew who skied with us and loves the trees was in heaven. I like more wide open areas and i was in heaven too. Again, the guides were great - one would ski down the run first to do a safety check and/or set a left or right hand line. The second guide stayed with the group and they communicated via radio where the safe lines were and we skied down one at a time. Once the group had all skied down the second guide would clear the hill and we were back on the cat. Very little time was wasted but the guides were keenly aware of conditions and potential hazards and safety was clearly job #1. Finding Powder was job #2 with a bullet and these guys did a great job of finding great snow on a day that I was concerned was going to be very difficult. Super cold beer at the end of the day was very welcome. :-) I have to say that I was really impressed with the entire experience. Great people, great terrain, great snow, great time. Highly recommended.
