We came to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. Donna and Brian were so thoughtful and professional. They made sure we had everything we needed and wanted for our stay. Breakfast each morning was so delicious. Donna could have made it as a professional chef! We stayed in a dog friendly cabin, what fun to bring along our pup! Cabin was cozy, warm and the snow was shoveled each day for us.

What a find! For years, we have passed this B&B on the way in from US 40 on the local road to…read moreDevil's Thumb, always wondering what it was like and vowing to try it some day. The xc skiing at Devil's Thumb has always been a favorite for us, as far back as the 70's when it was just a rustic ski trail system with a small nordic supply shop. In recent years it became a full fledged resort with lodging where we have often stayed. We have also stayed in Winter Park, about 15 minutes away and driven over to ski. But we have now found our new favorite option. This is such a lovely place, both the facility and the charming staff. It is a better price value for us than some of the other options in the area, yet more than a simple motel in town. You know, like Goldilocks, "just right." I especially want to note that the (included) breakfast that host John cooks for the guests was wonderful, some sweet, some savory, warm, homemade, natural and ample for the start of even an hearty ski day. They take note in advance of special food needs and serve with a choice of time options. The log style of the building is rustic but nicely furnished. The rooms are well designed and furnished with high quality linens and have lots of storage as some guests stay for weeks. The views from each room are very pretty, some to the Continental Divide, some to the woodland. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful. The central lounge area was large, comfortable, attractive and clean and with a central fireplace. There are also some other smaller gathering areas to sit and talk or read if you wish to be outside your room. And there are also some family and dog friendly cabins on site if you want more than a bedroom. Personally, the rooms in the main inn are just right for my needs. We will absolutely be back. It is convenient to local xc skiing and also just a 15 minute drive past the Winter Park Resort and not far at all from several quality dinner options. We met other guests using the lodging for all of these reasons.

The things that directly drove this 3 rating-the sauna and steam room at the pool/gym area was pretty crappy. It barely got warm enough to truly reap the benefits. The pool was also cold! We couldn't figure out why there was nobody in the pool and a group of 12 sitting at the hot tub. We quickly realized it was because the pool was freezing. The resort itself was dead which we heard was due to the lack of snow. When it's busy, I assume the pool and the hot tub area is a nightmare because it's small. The bar at the pool was also closed which sucked. The gym was okay but was missing some bumper plates and some machines were broken. It is definitely an expensive stay! The food and drinks were expensive but decent.

We check in put our stuff in the room and then immediately went out for 2-3 hours. We come back to the room and a bunch of small things were stolen worth $300, but most importantly my kids's MEDICATION. We reported it to the manager who barely spoke english and then we reported to someone hire up and they came back blaming my kids. The place has gone down hill since we stayed there years ago. They reviewed video tape and admit that the only one in the room during that time was their employee. We had to cut our trip short and drive back to Denver the next day get medication for our son. The "management" team are all unprofessional and full of s&^t. I even reached out to someone at their corporate office who was insulting as hell accusing me and my family of trying to rip them off! We checked out early and there was NO attempt to make things right. Now whenever I hear someone thinking about going to DTR I strongly discourage them. They want to be a high end resort but their management is utterly dishonest, incompetent and insulting.

After our stay, we were charged a "hot tub misuse" fee for damage we did not cause. While photos were eventually shared, they did not demonstrate damage resulting from our use of the hot tub. During our stay, a hot tub technician stopped by unannounced to make repairs related to issues caused by a previous renter, which raises serious concerns about how responsibility for the damage was determined. At no point during our stay were we informed that we had caused any damage or misused the hot tub. There was nothing apparent to us that would have warranted a misuse fee, and no clear evidence was provided linking the alleged damage to our stay. Compounding the issue was the lack of communication. We sent multiple emails and made repeated phone calls attempting to resolve this matter and received little to no response for an extended period of time. When we finally did hear back, the company refused to remove the charge, citing internal notes rather than proof, and instead offered a discount on a future stay--which does not resolve an improper charge. This experience demonstrated poor communication, lack of professionalism, and an unwillingness to fairly investigate a legitimate concern. I strongly encourage future guests to carefully review any post-stay charges and be cautious when booking through this management company.

Horrific customer service and Inaccurate Advertising! Arrived to my very expensive 4 BR rental home…read morethe week after Christmas to find a 30 degree downslope driveway with two inches of ice and 6 inches of snow. After unloading the SUVs, we couldn't get either car out of the driveway to do anything for 4 days! Despite multiple calls for help. They dropped off a bag of sand and a bag of ice treatment for me to dig out of the snow and ice to apply in 10 degree weather! WTF? The driveway should have been snowplowed and treated before our arrival. The ad for the house stated "the shuttle picks you up right outside your door." That was a huge selling point for a three generation, multi family rental ages 2-64 years old. Nope, it was actuallythree hundred and fifty foot, 30 degree uphill walk to the shuttle. We could only take the shuttle because we were iced in the driveway. Called multiple times every day only to be told they "couldn't reach anyone for help." On the third day they sent a repair man who said "I have no clue what they expect me to do." On the fourth day of seven, they sent a young man to tow the vehicles uphill out of the driveway and snowplow the driveway. FINALLY! We ended up parking the two wheel drive suburban in a city garage 1 mile from the house to keep it from getting stuck, again. An answering service answers the company phone with "All I can do is pass on the information." The lack of response to a terrible situation, ruining a family vacation at a $16,000 rental was stunning! I will NEVER use Winter Park Escapes again!
