The xc skiing at Devil's Thumb has always been a favorite for us, as far back as the 70's when it was just a rustic ski trail system with a small nordic supply shop. In recent years it became a full fledged resort with lodging where we have often stayed. We have also stayed in Winter Park, about 15 minutes away and driven over to ski. But we have now found our new favorite option. This is such a lovely place, both the facility and the charming staff. It is a better price value for us than some of the other options in the area, yet more than a simple motel in town. You know, like Goldilocks, "just right." I especially want to note that the (included) breakfast that host John cooks for the guests was wonderful, some sweet, some savory, warm, homemade, natural and ample for the start of even an hearty ski day. They take note in advance of special food needs and serve with a choice of time options. The log style of the building is rustic but nicely furnished. The rooms are well designed and furnished with high quality linens and have lots of storage as some guests stay for weeks. The views from each room are very pretty, some to the Continental Divide, some to the woodland. Every single staff member was friendly and helpful. The central lounge area was large, comfortable, attractive and clean and with a central fireplace. There are also some other smaller gathering areas to sit and talk or read if you wish to be outside your room. And there are also some family and dog friendly cabins on site if you want more than a bedroom. Personally, the rooms in the main inn are just right for my needs. We will absolutely be back. It is convenient to local xc skiing and also just a 15 minute drive past the Winter Park Resort and not far at all from several quality dinner options. We met other guests using the lodging for all of these reasons.

There is something for everyone here and it's a great ski resort for singles, families or a group of friends. The snow here is usually some of the best in the state, but Winter Park gets less publicity than some of the other resorts. The vacation properties range from 4 person occupancy to 16 person, so it is a great place to pair up with some friends and save money on a ski vacation. Lexi and Dana are very knowledgeable about the Winter Park area and got us some great deals on ski tickets as well as the lodging. Can't wait for our weekends in the Lakota lodges!

The resort itself was dead which we heard was due to the lack of snow. When it's busy, I assume the pool and the hot tub area is a nightmare because it's small. The bar at the pool was also closed which sucked. The gym was okay but was missing some bumper plates and some machines were broken. It is definitely an expensive stay! During our stay, my truck, parked in the garage and driven only once, had a slashed tire that went completely flat. I requested a review of camera footage but received no resolution. Despite paying an early check-in fee and requesting a late checkout, my concerns were met with automated responses. When I reported the tire damage and broken screen, the property management company referenced the listing's 4.96-star rating and said, "Not every property will be the right fit for every traveler." They closed the conversation without addressing my concerns and directed further disputes to Airbnb Support. This property was advertised as a luxury escape, but our experience was marred by maintenance and storage issues, unresolved vehicle damage, and a lack of meaningful resolution from the host team. I would not stay here again and highly recommend avoiding this property or any managed by Winter Park Escapes. After I worked with Airbnb support, which was great, we found a solution with zero help from Winter Park Escapes, as repeatedly requested by Airbnb Support. The 4.96 stars seem fake, as I am sure others have experienced the same lack of respect and action by Winter Park Escapes.
