My husband and I searched tons of dude ranches looking for the perfect summer get-a-way from the Texas heat and settled on C Lazy U. We were NOT disappointed! Lodging: we chose the Aspen cabin since it was just the two of us. I loved everything about it, other then the number of stairs to and from the main ranch: the decor, very comfy bed (although we were pretty tired after all of our daily activities!), having my very own fireplace, and the view! Food: Waaay above my expectations. Honestly, I was blown away with the cuisine - both the taste and the amount of choices per meal. Chef Cory was very personable and came to the table daily asking for feedback. He also had an awesome mustache face mask to respect social distancing while he was walking table to table. Horses: I mean why else do you think I chose this place?!? Amy and Tammy choose a horse for you based on your skill and comfort level with horses and if you are happy with your horse, you get to keep that horse all week. The herd is over 200 horses so there is definitely one to fit your experience level. My horse was Gypsy and she was a dream! She was super responsive and loved to lope the trails. People: Wranglers: they get in early and jingle the horses to the barn every morning around 6:15...definitely worth getting up to see! They are all very experienced riders and not only guide you on your trail rides, but will help hone your skills and answer questions about horses, the property, etc along the way. Everyone was awesome, but a special shout out to Abby and Halsey for taking us on an all day ride, and fixing my saddle bag for me when it fell off. Walker, Maggie, and Haylei were awesome and made every trail a blast. I feel like I am a way better rider now because of all of them. Servers: The servers are all very nice and ensure you are enjoying every meal. This year, due to COVID, we ate meals outside by the pool, and the servers did a great job of getting food out to you quickly and making sure you had everything you need. Grace was such a sweetheart and we saw her at almost every meal. Thanks for being the best wine pourer we could have asked for. Ranch hands: there are quite a few ranch hands on the property doing all of the odds and ends jobs, including guiding activities. Cooper was very helpful in coaching us through archery, BB guns, skeet shooting, and he managed to not laugh at our epic failure throwing hatchets. They also do a night of branding so bring your leather belts and boots for them to put a C Lazy U brand on. Management: great management team here. Dave, the GM, walked around during meals asking for feedback. Paul and Scott, two of the assistant GM's, made cowboy coffee over a campfire in the mornings and went above and beyond to make sure you were having fun. Paul also MC'ed the Shodeo, which was an absolute blast. Activities: The river that runs through the property and the pond by the main building were both great for fishing. The spa was excellent and the tent I was in had a glass floor to look down and see the river during the massage. Kids - although we don't have kids, the ability to have a group of trusted counselors take care of the little ones while the adults had fun was very impressive! Back at it again at C Lazy U! I swear this place never disappoints and I was amazed that some of the staff remembered me when my folks and I returned. Now I will admit the weather has been an either scorcher or soaking wet and some events had to be postponed/canceled, but as Coloradian natives say, "it's Colorado!", which I've learned is the same as saying "hakuna matata", haha! I spent the weekend at the C Lazy U Ranch for a retreat with 35+ people (now life-long friends after this) and there aren't enough words to rave about my positive experience there. The activities available are out of this world: ice skating on the frozen pond, snowmobiling around the nearby hills, cross-country skiing with a guide, horseback riding in the snow, snow-shoeing in the meadows, hot tubbing, and a game room... and so many more. The facilities were clean and THE STAFF!? The best ever. Special shout out to Sean, Scott, Alex, Laurel, Nick and Jared who catered to our program. Everyone there is incredibly kind and helpful, who seriously made our retreat unforgettable. BEST TRIP EVER! Words and pictures can not even do this place justice. It was truly the best week of my life. The staff was unbelievable. Everyone so kind and helpful always. From riding horses, fly fishing, mountain biking, hiking or just relaxing you have all the options. Evan who runs the food and beverage went above and beyond for anything we needed. Paul, Mike, scott and Dave in management were the best and always making sure we had what we needed or made sure we were having fun. Wranglers we're all perfect but my favorites were JR, John, Ali, Ethan, Hannah (I could name a lot lol) the Counsler's were unbelievable with my friends kids. I would reccomend staying here and will hopefully return when my children are older. There is not much to eat between meals. Incredible location, experience, and staff. They went out of their way on many occasions to be sure our stay was excellent. The accommodations were fantastic (well stocked and cleanest fireplace I've ever seen in our room!!!) and the activities were so much fun, from xc skiing to horseback riding to snow tubing. I felt I connected with my inner child in the best way, flying down the hill on the tube. Guided tours were great - I'm an avid xc skier and still got some helpful pointers from the staff. We just spent a week (over the 4th) at this guest ranch it it is everything stated, and then some! Our kids had the best vacation (2 boys 7,9) ever! Each day started with 200 horses trotting in a herd to be tacked up for the day. The wranglers are assigned based on your ability so there is no intimidation do you multiple skill levels. Everyone there has a great time! The extra activities such as trap shooting, fly fishing swimming or drinking great wine is all second to world class cuisine! We just got back today from the ranch for our first, and definitely not last, visit. To say it's an amazing place is not possibly a good enough review. I think it's actually magical. All we can do is talk about it. First, start with the staff. They are never "no", always "let me see what I can do" or even better "let me get that handled for you ASAP". Everyone on the staff is actually happy to be there and that's where the service shines from. They love their jobs and they love the ranch. We went for my father's 75th birthday celebration and they treated him like a king from minute one. I know he felt awesome. Second, the programs. The kids program is absolutely remarkable. The kids ran away from us every day to hang with their counselors and have fun. There was a plan every day and night and it was smartly designed for what KIDS like to do. My kids were just happy. The horse program is incredible. Let me qualify this by saying that I do not ride. However, my wife and kids(and nanny) could not get enough of the riding every day. The pride they take in it, and the compassion and kindness and care for these animals is inspiring. They are as much a part of the ranch as anyone else. As is Petey the Donkey, the ranch mascot of sorts. The "shodeo" at the end of the week was also spectacular. All your fellow ranch mates showing off their skills. It was fun and exciting. Paul as the MC on the mic was a legend. Dude is hilarious. I did go hiking and mountain biking and trap shooting and BB gun shooting and hatchet throwing and white water rafting, so yeah, you do not need to be a horse person to love the ranch. I am returning home POOPED from all the things we did every day! Third, the food is awesome. Breakfast was a buffet, but a full menu if you prefer to order. All really good. Lunch and dinner they kept mixing it up and there's always fresh veggies and fruit to accompany some serious meats and fishes. Also, they are SUPER responsive to dietary needs and restrictions. I have two gluten free kids and they NEVER were without an option they liked, nor a dessert they could eat. Oh, and they have an all-you-can-eat ice cream bar at 4pm and 9pm every single day. Zero issues with that whatsoever. There was also a really cool and fun night activity every night after dinner. Line dancing with live music, a talent show, incredible fireworks on the last night, etc. Hard to go to bed early because it's so much fun. Last, the accommodations. They feel like a ranch in the best way, but everything is super clean and nice and warm or cool or whatever you like. Fans in every bedroom, screens on windows to enjoy the cool night weather. We were extremely comfortable and happy. The water is drinkable right from the tap as it comes from their spring. Delicious stuff. We intend to return next summer as this was just a most remarkable trip that was filled with fun, new adventures and a TON of great family time. What could be better for a summer trip? This has been a great experience with an amazing staff that is friendly and helpful. The horse back riding was beautiful and the staff was extremely accommodating for every skill level. Belle and Maddy were great tour guides for the horse trails and were very talkative and relatable. Jackson was our guide for the trap shooting, archery, hatchet throwing, and bb gun excursion. He was great and super funny. The rooms and housekeeping staff was great and everything was very clean and put together nicely. The only problem I had with the experience was the food. Most the meals were served cold and the menu selection was very odd. Lamb and fish was served 2 nights in a row with sides that didn't really go well with the entrees in my opinion. Although, The lobster pot pie was to die for! The lunches were pretty good and the pastry chef was EXCELLENT! The pastry chef made a point to ask my mother what kind of cake she would like for her birthday and it was the best cake I have ever eaten! They also put bows on her horse the day of her birthday which was super cute and special. Breakfast was very basic but tasty, but they were not served with toast or any bread which was upsetting. Don't waste your money at this ranch. It is way overpriced and overrated. They are disorganized and not following what they advertise in their brochures. The riding is minimal to say the least. If you want to walk nose to nose in a single file line, this is for you. The rooms are never made up and it's difficult to reach anybody if you have a problem in your room. They advertise a spa but it is run down and overgrown with weeds. The head wrangler is super nice and the lodging manager goes out of his way but they are very understaffed. I feel bad for them. They really try. The food is excellent but you must eat at meals nothing else is offered. The front desk people are terrible. They seem like you are bothering them if you ask a question. Please look at ****other ranches in the area. They have great riding and really care about you and the vacation you are supposed to have. read more

My wife and I stayed here in July 2020. We decided on C Lazy U because it checked all the boxes, riding, fly fishing, hiking, etc. I can honestly say it exceeded our expectations in every way. The food was top notch, With each meal there were plenty of options and everything was delicious. The horseback riding was superb, we got to go on a different trail with different scenery every day. The wranglers did an awesome job of tailoring each ride so that we got to do some slow some medium and some fast rides. Everyone at the Ranch bent over backwards to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. I only wish I could give this place more stars. Allow me to paint a picture: the first afternoon and evening we were there, we were treated to a spectacular sunset over snow-capped mountains. We ate some of the most delicious food we've ever had - something along the lines of braised spare ribs, tomato basil risotto, haricot verts and chocolate cake. As we were looking out of the enormous picture window at the mountain scenery with horses in the foreground, it started to snow. Our kids ran outside with huge smiles on their faces, twirled around and caught snowflakes on their tongues - their first time in the snow. It was magic. The next day we rode until we were sore. They have horses for all ability levels. The barn staff was positive and encouraging and really organized. The next few days included trap shooting, tubing, and more riding. Our cabin was a perfect home away from home. Warm, cozy, and with plenty of firewood for as many fires as you wanted. The staff - oh the staff!!!! They could not have been more friendly or helpful. They handled all requests with ease and grace. It is also about 1/2 hour away from crazy good skiing at winter park. You really can do it all here. I cannot wait to go back! read more

I just spent a weekend at the C Lazy U Ranch for a leadership retreat at this magical place outside of Granby, CO. The staff was so supportive, from leading us on horseback through the snow to guiding us through powder on cross country skis to serving us gourmet meals, they treated us like family! A few members of the team even stayed up into the wee hours with us one evening as we bonded over a group exercise. The public spaces are luxurious and the cabins are comfortable and cozy. One of my favorite times of day was when the 200 horses (and one donkey!) were brought in from the pasture for their breakfast. I'm so grateful to the amazing staff that made us feel welcome and helped make our shared experiences so fun and memorable.This place is like heaven on earth and I can't wait to return. Stayed here with family for a week. I didn't pay for it, so I can't say if it's worth the price. The family who did pay for it loves it and has gone multiple times, so it seems it is worth it. The experience is pretty awesome, particularly for families. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. And it seems genuine, that these people really do want to get to know you and befriend you. The families that vacation there are also the kind of people you'd like to spend a week with, from what I could tell. I think it will be helpful to walk you through the daily schedule. The morning starts with "cowboy coffee" around 7, then breakfast from 730 ~ 9. Breakfast is buffet style, and the kids join you for breakfast. After, the kids go off to ride their horses with the kid counselors. Heads up, the counselors really let these kids ride horses, loping and all. So if you're not comfortable with your children learning to actually ride a horse, aka more than just walking around in a circle, then let the counselors know! After the kids are off, it's the adults turn. Based on your previous riding experience, you'll be paired up with your own horse for the time you're there. They really let you ride the horses out on the trails to the highest of your comfort and competence level. So if you don't feel comfortable going fast on the horse, be sure to make this clear with your trail leader. They have cattle cutting, where you learn more tactical/commanding skills re: how to control your horse. They'll take you on trails through the property. There is a morning and afternoon riding session, with buffet style lunch in between. If horse riding is not your thing, they offer fly-fishing, ropes course, volleyball, horseshoes, a basement full of air hockey, pool, etc. Or use their complimentary laundry machines! Or you can just relax and enjoy the amazing scenery. Because it really is gorgeous here. The air is so crisp and clear with no humidity. The view is breath-taking. Altitude sickness is real though, and happened to me twice, so watch out for that. And also WEAR SUNSCREEN! But I digress - back to the schedule. Dinner for the kids is provided earlier, and for adults (adults dine w/o the kids) dinner is served ~ 730 pm. The food options are delicious. Breakfast is the least impressive, but lunch and dinner are quite good. They don't offer much in the way of carbs, but for me this is preferred, as it allows for healthier options. Dinner is served family style at large tables, so you get to sit and socialize with other guests. The meats and vegetables prepared are really tasty, and again, you can have as much as you like (though you won't need much to feel full because it is mostly proteins they are serving). You can tell the chef really enjoys his job, and takes his food seriously. The sommelier is also very adept and puts together some nice selections. After dinner there is usually some kind of activity planned, mostly for adults and children. Karaoke, smores, etc. Then you retire to bed and get a good night's rest for your adventures the following day. The accommodations are very nice. But one big negative - the beds. The beds are horribly soft and uncomfortable. My back pain that worsened throughout the week may have been related to the horseback riding, I admit, but I think the bed certainly contributed. The whole family slept poorly because of the beds. I meant to say something before we left but of course forgot. And understandably it would be difficult for them to address this problem during my stay, so it's a complaint not really worth making. Overall though, it's just a phenomenal resort. I say resort because even though you're on a ranch, you're really not "roughin' it." Highly recommend. And you MUST buy cowboy/riding boots, if you do not already own them. The ranch is great and the experience staying there is a wonderful one if you are a small group. But, if you are trying to plan a large event you may want to expect a lot of hiccups along the way. The attention to detail, timliness in return phone calls, updates, reservations and confirmations can take weeksbefore a response is returned. You will find you are dealing with one individualy only for all of your needs and that you will constantly be directed to that one individual as will all of your guests. Why you can't book or discuss with other staff, I"m not sure. During our planned event I heard non stop from my guests that they could never get confirmation on their reservations, returned phone calls or a response to their questions unless they repeatedly called the ranch. Many were frustrated. I was overly frustrated as well since I was the one planning and organizing the event and trying to work out details...it's not easy when you can't get an email or phone call response for over a week. My feeling is the ranch is dabbling in larger events but it hasn't figure out how to make it work like a well oiled machine. Having one person manage an entire event and be the only contact person will likely lead to many frustrating moments for all. Especially if the person isn't the most detail oriented. We had a great experience when it was all said and done, but the months leading up to it were difficult and frustrating to say the least. read more
