The Gateway Inn is a beautiful property nestled just west of downtown (walking distance for those without mobility issues). Each room is decorated with an outdoor theme (very lodge-like). We had the "Bear Room" (with the cutest decorative pillows and comforter). It was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The bonus was the balcony with a great view! Each room has a microwave, mini-fridge, hairdryer, and shower essentials. I would recommend calling direct for packages and special offers before checking online travel sites. We secured a very reasonable rate for the Corvette Car Show weekend. The Gateway Inn has a hot tub, sauna, a nice lounge (another of my "patio places to go" collection) as well as a Keurig alongside a vending machine at the front lobby. Stayed here for the 2022 4th of July weekend and it was a wonderful retreat from the hub-bub from the town below. This hotel has lots of parking, a coffee shop, bar, restaurant, hot tub, friendly staff, clean rooms and a comfortable "lodge" feel. Rooms have a small fridge and microwave oven. Very accommodating. It's not an upscale luxurious hotel with chandeliers and snooty Patton's. It's ehat you expect for an upgraded "lodge" hotel. Log furnitures. Taxidermy on 2nd floor. Vending machines on ground floor. By far the worst experience I have ever had with a hotel. I stay at hotels around 50 times a year and I have never been treated so poorly. It's noy that the hotel rooms are bad or anything its the people that run it. Liars, unethical, completely shady. I was a little worried to stay here because the communication and clarity from the staff beforehand was severely lacking. BUT! We really loved our stay here. I found the room to be absolutely perfect & just what we needed - nothing more or less. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean and cool. The shower was clean and the water pressure was great. We had breakfast in the restaurant at the hotel and that was fantastic, too! The views were beautiful and we even saw a moose one night from the balcony! A beautiful lodge on Grand Lake. With very good customer service and room was super comfortable and clean.

Stayed over the Friday after Thanksgiving. Fun place -- the Inn has very clean, nice comfortable rooms. Very friendly staff. Deducted a star for key cards not working after we'd gone to the bar/restaurant in the evening about 7:00ish for a bite to eat. There was one waitress, Christine, along with the bartender Shane, who was helping Christine fill in along with his bartending duties. Both were extremely nice and very busy and we were happy to wait. We got drinks pretty quickly from Shane. Finally gave up on food after not seeing any food come out of the kitchen for a considerable time to others who'd been there considerably longer than we had. Both explained separately how they'd been slammed all day, and they were not expecting that. We'd heard that from a couple of the shops in Grand Lake earlier in the day. It certainly gave a ring of truth to the news stories we'd been hearing for some time about how the mountains have been short employees because of housing, cost of living, etc. A good dose of patience is obviously necessary when planning a stay in the mountain towns. Having said all that, while we understand, we also were a bit frustrated. Finally asked for a brownie with ice we could take back to our room. Pretty good stuff -- not exactly a meal, however. That didn't take long at all. And... when we got back to our room, the key cards, neither of them, worked. Had to go back to the desk only to find no one there. I had several packages, and the plate with the brownie and ice cream, so I sat on the floor outside our room while husband went back to desk, then came back with a contact phone number for after-hour issues (though it was 30 minutes from being after hours). I called, eventually talked to someone who said an on-site person would call me back in a few. Which it was -- just a few. Husband went back to front desk to get new key cards only to have the desk attendant say to him "oh, yeah, those cards are pretty old." Probably not what you want to say to the customers who've been waiting to get back in to their room after have a non-meal brownie and ice cream for dinner. Again... having said all that... we will be back. The staff was delightful at every turn -- they were obviously trying their best and each staff member, to a person, was pleasant and tried hard. Great location for families or couples looking for a fun mountain town experience and/or access to RMNP. It's literally only a 3 minute drive to the park gates from here. The hotel itself is quaint, the rooms are reasonable in size and the bathroom was clean. Our room had a small balcony, no views of the lake but the hotel was quiet and there plenty of views of the mountains from your room or the lounge. We ate a breakfast and dinner here. Both were great, the staff was prompt and helpful. There is no pool at the hotel, the hot tub was being repaired, but there is a sauna and a small gym downstairs. If we had any suggestions for improvements, I would say the beds were a bit small (our room had a full bed and bunk bed combo),but there may be others with King Size available. We also found it hard to get the room cooled off - the ac was not overly effective. Very minor issues for an otherwise great experience. Grand Lake is an awesome location anytime of year. Not far from so many activities. Grand View Inn is a great base of operations. read more

My friend and I stayed at this hotel while visiting Grand Lake, CO. We booked our hotel through Expedia and we were really happy with the price, especially after checking out the other hotels and air BNB's around and seeing how high their prices were. To start with the positives, the hotel is not even 5 minutes from the downtown area right by Grand lake, and there's even a little back way that leads straight to the main road. There is ample parking and the front desk area felt homey and welcoming. We called two days before our reservation to see if there was a possibility for early check in and the receptionist let us know we can either request it and hope for the best, or pay and extra $25 to guarantee and early check in around noon instead of 4. We paid the extra fee and our room was clean and available right when we arrived. We had a mini fridge, coffee maker, WiFi, air conditioner, a balcony with a view, black out darkening curtains, an electric fireplace, and a huge mounted flat screen TV. The hotel provided ear plugs, 2 makeup remover wipe packets, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, a hair dryer, loose coffee packets, an ice tray and ice maker in the hall, and many, many towels of all sizes. The vibe was very cabin-esque and really cozy and sweet. Our king sized bed was comfortable and the perfect fit for my friend and I to share. It had 4 sleeping pillows, not including the 2 huge decorative pillows they use on top of the comforter. There is a vending machine in the lobby with both drinks, snacks and an assortment of random necessities (ibuprofen, allergy meds, bandaids, head phones, condoms- lots of important things that are easily forgotten!). Overpriced but helpful when in a pinch. There also a restaurant in the hotel and a hot tub. Now, for the cons of this hotel. Did you want to sleep in uninterrupted? Well that all depends on your room placement, hotel neighbors, and their awareness of their own noise level. I woke up at 6am to a herd of elephants above us. I could hear children running back and forth, drawers slamming, doors opening and closing, the whole sha-bang. When they finally left, our next door neighbors did the same thing. It didn't take me long to figure out that I, being in room 101 right next to the restaurant, was almost definitely listening to the breakfast staff preparing breakfast early in the morning. I could hear dishes clinging around, blenders going off, and the cupboards were being slammed so hard I could feel it bang shut through the wall. At one point I had to pound on the wall because I couldn't take it anymore. It happened both mornings I slept in the hotel, it lasted for hours and I can assure you it happens anytime the restaurant is open. To be busy early in the morning and not be considerate of those of who sleep in past 7am was extremely disappointing. Not completely the hotel's fault, but it does have a lot to do with thin walls and old buildings because at my apartment complex I have NEVER heard anything so loud and obnoxious. When you know your kitchen shares a wall with a hotel room, my advice is to try and be quiet. Or at least try to not slam the cupboard every time you close a door. Or don't put someone in this room! Same thing happened when the restaurant in the hotel opened later for dinner, we could pretty much hear everything all night till they closed. Another annoying thing was that for whatever reason, the mini fridge was unplugged. Clearly not an unsolvable problem but the bummer was that I didn't realize this until after I put all of our goodies in there when we arrived, and it wasn't until I got back to the hotel to get something to drink, I realized everything was warm. I can see why that saves electricity to unplug it when people aren't using the room, but it wasn't something I even thought of and it seemed silly to not have it ready to go for my immediate use. Their WiFi is also terribly slow. You can pay to upgrade but I didn't look into how much that would be. I don't think you should have to pay extra for decent WiFi when you're already paying for an entire room that advertises "free WiFi". At the end of the day, the benefits outweigh the negatives in the sense that it was an affordable stay in a beautiful area and we were really happy to find the deal on Expedia for our small summer vacation. It's not a fancy hotel but it was accommodating, cozy and safe and we were overall okay with the stay. If you want to sleep in past 7am, though, I would not recommend room 101 by any means. read more

My boyfriend surprised me with a weekend getaway here. We went snowboarding at Mary Jane, then once we were tired, it was a short drive here with no traffic, and a gorgeous scenery. Our room was on the first floor, but far enough away from the public area that we didn't hear any noise from the people hanging out in the hot tub or the public deck. Our room was spacious with a king size bed, a mini fridge, and a heated bathroom. Check in and check out was fast and easy, the people were so nice, and our room was so cozy we ended up canceling most of our plans to stay in because our room was so comfortable. I really enjoyed my time here, and even though I only stayed for a night, there were so many accommodations I felt like one night was too short. Our room was super clean, we had a spectacular view, and a private balcony to enjoy it all. I would definitely come back again. read more

This place is clean and has a nice ambiance, but the walls are thin, they play live music downstairs, which could be clearly heard on the 2nd floor (a terrible idea when someone might be sleeping or trying to watch TV), overpriced breakfast cafe, and the bed was so creaky that ANY tiny movement caused noise. The worst part is that, although their website clearly stated a price "including tax and fees," my credit card was charged far more. They also moved us to another room (their choice), and it appears that they then charged us for a more expensive room. And to top it off, I've tried contacting them about all this through the contact page on their website twice, and have gotten no reply. I really think they need to be reported to the Better Business Bureau. read more

My limited experience with Gateway Inn arose from a reservation for one night, that coincided with a snow storm over Rocky Mountain National Park. The snowstorm prevented me from transiting from Estes Park to Grand lake resulting in my cancellation of my Gateway stay the day before my scheduled stay. Though Gateway's stated policy was to charge for a stay where the cancellation was within their stated period for cancellation (2 - 4 days as I recall), they nevertheless were generous enough to factor in the snow storm and allow for my cancellation without the charge they were entitled to under the terms of the reservation. I write this review to express my appreciation for Gateway's consideration given the snow storm. read more

Staff is not friendly at all. Teenager at the main desk. The food staff doesn't spread English so hard to order food. Our orders were wrong after it took 2 hours to be delivered. So it wasn't worth trying to fix. The live band was pretty good but they left the other music on in the eating area which drowned out the live band. For the price we paid and the potential here.. would it be so hard to at least be friendly, be on time and at least try to understand our orders??? I booked five rooms plus the penthouse for three nights for a large family reunion. Our stay was delightful. The entire staff, from management down to housekeeping and maintenance went far beyond the call of duty to make our stay perfect. Danny, the General Manager, spent lots of time with me trying to get the electronics set up for a digital presentation. The facility is ordinary on the outside, but the rooms are well-appointed and well equipped. The view of Shadow Mountain Lake from the penthouse is spectacular. The only negative was a long wait for food from the restaurant (a separate business from the hotel) one evening. Food was a bit pricey, but comparable to other establishments in town. This is a lovely hotel close to the lake. The accommodations were nice and the room was clean and had enough towels. We did hear a strange noise that I think was the fan from the bathroom below us that was pretty loud but nothing that should dissuade you from staying here. We would stay again. We love gateway inn. There is definitely a lodge decor, the rooms are large, and have a small fridge in each room. We had a king bed, we slept so well, the bed was awesome. We had a lake view, and listened to the little waterfall throughout the night, it was so peaceful. We really enjoy the lodge room and deck, there is room to spread out, enjoy the fire pits (until Mother Nature blew in). The bar is handy, the beer deals are nice. There is a continental breakfast in the main lodge too , but the yummy smells from oA bistro from the lower level were tempting.... we will probably still try the bistro. We were here with friends to do some four wheeling, there was some room in their parking lot for us to park our 2 trailers, without any problems, which was really awesome! read more

Love this place. My boyfriend and I came here for our two year anniversary an it was just perfect. The staff is so friendly especially the barkeep (who is also the owners daughter). The view from our room was phenomenal and I had absolutely zero hassle or problems when checking in with my service dog. The bar has a happy hour every day from 4-6 pm and the drinks are ridiculously cheap and delicious. In the bar area they also give complimentary s'mores and a outdoor fire pit, they have popcorn and an awesome plethora of breakfast options. I would definitely stay here again if I were to come vacation to Grand Lake again. read more

I'm torn with this one. The good: It's a nice lodge complete with log beams, stuffed animals, fireplaces, and a lounge. Antiques are placed hear and there. It looks cool. The rooms have log furniture. The best part is the views from the room balconies. Some rooms only have a view of the parking lot, but for just a little more, you'll get a room with a mountain or lake view. I thought the view was worth the few extra bucks. Both the mountain or lake views overlook the town of Grand Lake. The rooms are spacious. Elevator access to the second floor was nice. The bad: While it's a nice lodge, it's a newer construction with a few corners cut hear and there. Some parts appear to be assembled with simulated log panels like those in a small log cabin kit. While the place has potential, the decor is minimal leaving a lot of bare spaces. This lodge is not within walking distance of all the downtown shops and restaurants. Technically, it is walkable, but it's a good little piece. The mediocre: The lodge houses a restaurant and bar that is open to those staying at the lodge and those not. During a summer 2011 visit in my party of four, I felt the check-in was a little cold. There was a group of "regulars" in the bar area (lodge employees included) that was in open view of the area to enter and exit the lodge. Whenever I was coming or going, the talking would quiet down and I felt as if I was being watched... to see what I was doing or where I was going. I may be totally wrong about it... it was just a feeling. In the end, the place was just okay for me. I'd like to visit Grand Lake again, but there are many other places I'll try first before returning to this lodge. read more

This place is FANTASTIC! From the welcoming greeting as we checked in, to the little details within the room - unique wood decor, cabinets, decorations to ear plugs and toiletries - this spot thought of everything a traveler may need. This is a hotel on the edge of town - about half mile from center where the shops and restaurants are. Possible to walk but the road was boring and dusty so driving makes more sense even though it's not far. We got an accessible king room (113) on the ground floor (arrived a bit early so took whatever room that was ready), although from the window it's higher above ground as the building is on a hill side. Room newly renovated, good size, with fun knobby natural wood furniture. A bit of mountain view but mostly blocked by another building. Window side wall has light colored wood panels, drift wood colored flooring. High ceilings with fan. Lighting not the brightest except in the enormous bathroom. Bed high and firm (very good), bouncy pillows (not so good). Cute lamp shade with cutout bear patterns. Big flat panel TV. Temp control good. WiFi quite strong. Parking right in front of building. Overall hotel and room updated but decor is rustic and charming. The large public terrace off the bar is fabulous, with comfy cushioned couch and chairs and great view of the lake, a good place to hang out those in rooms without a balcony. read more

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE, UNPLEASANT MANAGER We were traveling to Grand Lake from Boulder via Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park on US-34. At the time of our travel, Rocky Mountain National Park required a reservation to enter; the only time for the day of our travel I was able to reserve was 4 pm to 6 pm. Since the hotel had 48 hours cancellation policy, I checked the road conditions 48 hours prior to our check-in; there was no road closure at a time. However, when we got to the park around 4-4:30 pm we were told that US-34 was closed. I immediately contacted the hotel and was told by (I believe) Sherry Oliver, a rude and unpleasant hotel manager, that it was my responsibility to check on road conditions and cancel a reservation on time. I tried to explain that I did prior to the expiration of my reservation cancelation, but she didn't care. She told me that we should take an alternative road which would take us another 3.5-4 hours to get to the hotel. This woman totally ignored my explanation that our time to enter the park was 4 pm-6 pm, that by the time we would be able to leave Estes Park and get to her hotel it would be way past midnight and that we already were driving all day. She simply didn't care, so I told her that we would not be staying at that hotel. I managed to book a hotel in Estes Park to stay overnight. Around 9 pm girl called us from Gateway Inn to find out the time of our arrival. I told her that earlier I informed the manager that due to a road closure and late hour we would not be able to make it to a Grand Lake area. I also told her that due to unpredictable circumstances I would appreciate being fully refunded. The response was that the manager offered us credit to be used within (I believe) a couple of weeks; I explained to her that we lived in California and that there was no way we could/would come back within a couple of weeks, or months, or most likely years. If we took an alternate road as they suggested, we would be driving most of the night, would be exhausted, would get only a few hours of sleep, just to check out early in the morning. We had a similar problem couple of years ago when one freeway was closed due to a road condition and another freeway was very congested. When I contacted the hotel manager, he understood the problem and fully refunded us even though the hotel didn't have a cancelation policy at all. That is what I call great customer service and human treatment. I left a great review to the hotel and thank the manager for being a good and understanding person. read more

This review should really be a 3.5. We had a pre wedding happy hour at the gateway lounge. Very beautiful views from the deck and good service at the bar. The staff put on a couple fireplaces outside for our wedding cocktail hour. No complaints on that front. This review would be higher except leading up to the happy hour staff at the Gateway made us feel as if it was an inconvenience for bringing them 50+ patrons in the off-season. I spoke with them months ago about the happy hour and the number of people that were going to be expected and they didn't seem to care either way if they got our business. When I first approached the management about the event at the bar I was told they would be with me in a moment and ended up waiting at least 15 minutes to talk to someone. I was then simply told all of our wedding guests could show up at the bar because we couldn't reserve it. No problem. About a week before the wedding my fiancé called to remind them of the number of guests attending the happy hour and was told there might be capacity issues (if that was the case why wouldn't they tell us months ago when we first asked). Decided to still hold it there and there was plenty of room with the deck and they ended up using a hotel manager to help tend bar and although there were no hiccups with service, we would have expected more professional customer service leading to the event. We ate dinner at the OA Bistro, which is in this hotel. After a terrible dinner, involving mice, I complained to the restaurant manager. When she expressed no concern, I then took the issue to the hotel night manager. She also said that the mice/vole's are a problem, but they can't do anything about it. This is a wonderful place to stay! We were coming to town for a wedding and before the trip could only find places we could afford in Estes Park. The "hotel" there ended up being so bad that we searched last minute for a new room and lucked out that one was available here! We made the drive over the mountains at night to get here and were so relieved that we got the room here! Friendly staff, everything was clean, very cute rustic motif in the rooms, Amazing views from their deck! They have a very cool looking bar which we didn't get a chance to go to because of the wedding we went to, but would have otherwise. They have a basic breakfast in a very nice room downstairs. They are situated right above the downtown of Grand Lake with very easy and close access to the town. I would recommend this place and would stay here again! read more

The hotel is a great find in Grand Lake! It's on a mountain and has plenty of varieties of rooms. There is a large lobby with a bar, fireplace and lots of seating. It is happy hour 4-6pm! And a really nice happy hour with wines and beer and free popcorn after 11 am. There is bar food served like sandwiches, pizzas and wings. The pizza tastes like it was frozen the wings weren't crispy, that's the only reason why 1 star is knocked off. The bartender was super nice and funny. And be sure to try their beers brewed in Grand Lake! This hotel has some comfortable beds, all frames made of logs, the dressers made of logs and cool artwork in the room. There is also a ceiling fan, refrigerator and microwave in the basic rooms. The room was pretty chilly, but there are plenty of blankets. The hot tub is located outside and please go out there if it's snowy, it's totally worth it. The free breakfast is pretty basic with fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice, coffee, tea, bread, jams and butter. There were some Jimmy Dean sandwiches to heat up. Check out was fast and easy and management came back quickly with any issues. Will stay again! read more

I love this amazing lodge located in Grand Lake. We went during the offseason in October and had a fantastic time. There was a hot tub, happy hour lounge (we'll get to that in a second), gym, steam room, and great "mountain town" decor. The room was standard sized and had a fire place. Beds were comfortable and staff was very friendly. We really enjoying the lounge area during happy hour to watch the football games. They offer half price on ALL alcohol....it was probably the best happy hour I've ever been to! They have a potluck on Sundays/popcorn stand but other than that I wouldn't really recommend eating there because the pizza is just store-bought frozen pizza and I'm assuming it's similar with the other food on the menu. There was also a deck outside of the lounge with fire pits and they give you FREE S'MORES! It was an amazing place and will definitely go down in my memories of great times I have had with my family. Nice lodge type hotel, in Grand Lake, overlooks the lake, and has pretty mountain views. The views are pretty, but the sun sets behind the hotel- so no romantic sunset... Lol The room was nice and clean, with a mountain cabin feel. They have a bar and offer happy hour and different activities nightly. Piano bar and s'mores were offered the night we stayed. The breakfast was sub par. The muffins were in a plastic container and were moldy. Other than that, good value and friendly people! read more

This place was exactly what we were looking for and exactly what we expected. Beautiful, quaint, friendly, spacious, mountain-y. We couldn't have asked for more. The check in was fast, friendly and informative. There was a lively and inviting crowd at the bar, but we needed to eat! We arrived late (8:30pm), so I asked if the 10pm hot tub curfew was strict. He said, as long as you are respectful and keep the noise down, be my guest. We did, and it was amazing. The tub was hot, the air was cold and the stars were out. It was beautiful. The balcony was an excellent addition, and we spent the following morning drinking coffee out there. We had the continental breakfast and I just wished like hell that I had more time to spend there. Beware may not get a room and will still be charged!! I booked a room for our family vacation. The reservation went through and the hotel charged me for the room. However, I did not receive an email confirmation. I found this odd so a few days later I called to confirm the confirmation. They told me I did not have a reservation. I gave them the confirmation number and they told me it was for the day I booked it. Also claimed they had tried to call that day but "all circuits were busy". I received no call. They refused to transfer my reservation as I had prevented the room from being resold. This is also not true as this was in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and hotel is not close to full. I think the hotel may be hurting due to the pandemic and the services you receive may not be anywhere close what this place used to be. read more

Loved this hotel. It was clean, spacious, and had a wonderful view. I bought a Groupon to come in the off-season, so I'm not sure how regular prices compare. I thought it was an excellent value. If you're looking for a quiet retreat, this is the place for you. The only downside is that although the location is around a lot of magnificent views, there's not a lot of options regarding dining in the off-season. Otherwise, it's great. read more
