    Surf n turf

Always finish a visit home with a trip here as its the best restaurant in Dalkey at the moment. Been here a lot and never had a bad meal, such friendly staff and a decent menu. Usually opt for the surf and turf and the squid which is a winnig combination, had the crab an avocado mousse tonight which was also delish. The buzzy atmosphere in here with friendly staff and consistent food for me makes it a go to. Welll worth a visit.

Really enjoyable meal here, wandered in just before 7pm on a Friday and yes, place was already quite busy and on finding we didn't have a reservation we got the awkward, mmmmm, aaaaahhhhh let me see... Anyway they finally seated us (moved us again) and finally we could start enjoying ourselves! Food on all counts was delicious, I treated myself to fillet steak with scallops and red wine jus... What can I say! Delicious... Waitress teased us into opting for a dessert also, that didn't fail either it was fab! Staff are friendly and attentive, dropped the 1 star just n how we were initially greeted and reseating that we had to do but otherwise an enjoyable meal, great atmosphere and a great to have this place so close to my doorstep

I had the Fillet Of Irish Beef. I hardly ever order filet mignon but I'm glad I did. It may well be the best I've ever had. With Café de Paris butter, shallot pureé, pepper sauce, rocket (arugula), and a side of french fries. The flavor of the meat itself was incredible and the three sauces complemented it perfectly. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare as ordered. French fries aren't normally something to get excited about but these were a gastronomic masterpiece; the insides soft and sweet, not starchy, the outsides browned and subtly crisp, and I don't know what they were fried in but these had so much flavor it must have been beef tallow or duck fat. I'd come here again just to have a platter of these amazing fries! The wife's Coq Au Vin Façon La Maison (chicken breast braised in red wine, smoked bacon, mushrooms, baby onions, roast carrot, pomme purée) was equally memorable. I've never considering ordering this, thinking it too simple or plain. Not this. The red wine sauce really elevated a simple braised chicken. And how do they make even a simple carrot taste so good? We each had a wine from the ample selection of by the glass offerings and shared a gingery dessert which we both enjoyed. The service was good and not rushed. Just don't be intimidated by the waiter, who announced when he brought the bill that tip was not included; it seems this could have been handled more subtly.

La Maison was a delight! It was rainy but we wanted to sit outside, and there's a covered outdoor area with lots of smaller 2- and 4-top tables, so we were seated there. It is on a side street in downtown Dublin, so not as busy as main streets but still lots of food traffic, which added to the lively ambience. It was cold outside, but we stayed warm under here. We had a lovely meal. We started with a bread basket and shared shrimp appetizer, which were both great. For the main course, I ordered the duck breast, which was prepared perfectly. My husband had the steak which was also cooked nicely. To drink, we had a couple of glasses of wine each; La Maison has a solid wine menu with lots of delicious French wines and a few Italian wines as well. The service was pleasant and friendly, and the prices were just about right for the food and wine quality. Overall we had a lovely experience and would dine here again.

Wow. What a meal…read more Just two weeks old, and already a well-oiled (and extremely tasty) machine. Usually when you visit a restaurant that's so new, there are lots of chinks that need ironing out, processes that need tweaking, menus that aren't quuuite spot on yet. Not so in Canteen. You could be forgiven to assume it had been there for years. The staff and management have clearly taken the best bits from their old Blackrock haunt, and added to them for the new Celbridge abode. From beginning to end, everything about the meal was perfect. - The piping hot just out of the oven bread and soft butter landed on the table as soon as we came in - The exquisite amuse bouche that followed straight after - The menu which strikes the perfect balance between modern Irish & French cuisine - not too fussy and not too plain. In fact we had a few fussy eaters on our table, and everyone without exception demolished everything put in front of them. A testiment indeed to the fresh ingrediants and clever combinations. - The decadent truffles that completed the experience! Now, a special mention to the star of the show. The Crème brûlée. Mother. Of. Deserts. Hands down the best crème brûlée I've ever had. The richest, most dense & velvetty caramel. Wow. I'm still thinking about it. The interior is slick - painted in a grey and blue pallet, with massive floor to ceiling windows, minimalist lighting and contemporary art, it's got a serene feel, and manages to thread the line successfully between sophistication and quirkiness. The staff were on point - friendly, efficient and knowledgable. Then there's the price. If you count the bread, amuse bouche, three courses and the truffles at the end, you're essentially getting a five course meal for 38 euro. Incredible value. With wine, 55 euro. Worth every cent. This is the type of place that Celbridge has been crying out for. They're going to do exceptionally well. More power to them.

One of the locals (there was 6 of us) suggested this place. Said it used to be called the Wine Bar, and everyone still calls it the wine bar, despite it being called Chez Sara. Called them and they said they'd take us at 9pm. Boy was I glad we moved here :-) It's a simple enough menu - lots of fish, some steak, and a few other things. I had mussels to start, and lemon sole as my main (being one of my favourites). Around the table people had pork belly, open vegetarian lasagne, chicken, and fish. Everyone was delighted with their food. It's modestly priced, really delicious food, with a basic, kinda French style to it. We polished off some house red and white (also great), and even went for desserts. I thought my tarte tatin was slightly below par versus the rest of the meal, but that's basically looking for something to be picky about :-) I would recommend this for anyone : tasty food with friendly staff in nice, simple surroundings. Excellent - I shall return.

Guys these days... One star for the location. This restaurant is located in Malahide, in a little street just a few steps away from the sea. One star for the place. The restaurant has a very intimate feel about it. It is not very big, the table are made of old French boxes, walls are covered in famous vintage pictures, everything is simple and welcoming. One star for the food. I had fishcake as a starter, amazing and tasty. Then I had some cod with potatoes as a main, and that was equally beautifully cooked and tasty. And of course, the place being a wine bar I had some white wine, Picpoul. Just a glass, but what a glass ! One star for the waitressing. The waiting time was perfect, although I was starving ! The waitresses were very nice at all times. One star for the experience. The entire evening went really well overall. I will definitely go back and bring friends - even French friends ! I recommend 'Chez Sara' and give the restaurant a 5 star in a heartbeat. In the end my friend didn't remember the bet and invited me... Shhh I won't say if you don't ;) ***Update*** I came back to the place with the same place. We are losing 1 star here... The foie gras was presented on white bread. Shocking! It's no pâté! The hand cut fries were wedges. The textures wasn't right either. Otherwise the service was great and the overall experience very nice :)

Good. Can't. Stop. Eating. Must. Stop. Can't. Stop. Hidden away above the Castletown Inn, Green's Restaurant is often forgotten by locals, until they return. The food is quite simply impeccable. I had a goat's cheese salad to start which was toasted to perfection; the flavours of the salad and the cheese mingling perfectly. Then chicken breast over potato gratin with some type of jus (i.e. gravy) You also get served extra potatoes and veges for the table. Now this may sound like a very plain meal to you, and you would be correct in your assumption. But, you would also find had you ordered it, that the quality of the ingredients, and the way in which it's cooked, transcends any 'plainness'. It's tasty, mouthwatering, delicious, good food. Service is always fantastic, very attentive and lovely waitresses. And the cherry on top - the price. Three of us ate starters, main courses and deserts, with one bottle of wine. The total came to €80. Amazing value. Generally speaking, the starters are around €5.50, mains from €11 - €15, and desserts, €5.50ish. The only reason I haven't given this place five stars is the decor. Having been here for quite some time, the place is looking a bit long in the tooth and desperately in need of some 2013. Really bright lighting is always a massive bug bear for me - I think lighting can make or break a dining experience. If they got these fixed, this place would be a sure-fire 5 star-er!

Going on the advice of Yelp users we chose Green's and were very pleased. Starters were priced at about €5 each with mains at roughly €12 each and again desserts at €5. The restaurant is located above the Castletown Inn and one tip I can give is that you should pay close attention to the steep stairs on the way up cos you will be about half a stone heavier on the way down. We were greeted at the door by a uniformed waitress that showed us to our table and hung our coats for us, gave us our menus and then went away giving us time to get settled in. We liked the decor of the place, clean and comfortable with linen tablecloths, flowers and lit candles on each table. It turned out that the toilets were sparklingly clean which is always a good sign when you come across it. This was a late afternoon Sunday visit and the restaurant was about a quarter full. Two families were eating, both with young children who were well looked after and very well behaved - (thank God for iPads and iPhones.) Kids food was half-price. We started with the beef and Guinness sausage which was delicious and then we both had the lamb shanks. These boys were huge and it took me all my time to put mine away and then finish hers as well. Luckily I have the body of an athlete. Just hope the Guards never find where I have it buried. We could only manage one dessert but I had two pints of larger and the bill only came to €48 ex tip. Really enjoyed it and will come again. Highly recommend it. I would rate it more highly except the food while excellent seemed homely in that I feel (probably wrongly) that I could produce a similar meal at home.

Attending a work dinner with about 40 others I was initially very taken with the location right beside, as the address suggests, an actual harbour in the town, albeit a tributary off the Royal Canal. But still. A very nice dining room complimented by efficient and friendly staff greeted me. It's billed as a French restaurant but, based on the 'event' menu we used, there was little Francophile about the place. For starter I had a very good hock terrine (hello 1977) having already demolished the excellent and copious bread on the table. Mains choices were seabass, chicken and steak. I chose the steak (medium rare and perfectly cooked) with moreish chips I very reluctantly shared with my less fortunate neighbour. Incidentally, they coped admirably with our large crew which pretty much dominated the restaurant and was probably a bit of a nightmare for the kitchen so well done on the organisation front too. I would definitely return to sample their carte menu as, good as it was, I don't think the special menu did the kitchen justice. Potentially top notch.
