Not much to look at and not much atmosphere, but the DAWGS rock! The prices a great; fries, onion rings and shakes are all super! Perfect pairing for a fabulous hot dawg! You don't need to worry if the traditional Chicago Dog isn't you thing as this menu is overflowing with tons of awesome hotdog options. If you go with friends I highly recommend ordering several and sharing! read more

I'm going OVERRATED on this particular location. No AC in the DawgDays of summer. Horribly slow service...literally said to me "you might not want to order a burger it will take forever". So I had two Chicago dawgs and they were good. Not anything special. People were getting the shakes there...and they looked good...but they probably needed them because it was like 500 degrees in here. Pass. read more

I heard amazing things about the hot dogs in Chicago, so i knew when I visited that I had to try out one of the more well-known spots. Portillos was too far from my hotel so I settled on Devil Dawgs. This place is average at best. The hot dogs are small and could stand to be cooked longer... I got the Coney Dog and my friend got the Chicago Dog. The chili lacked flavor on the Coney Dog and it just wasn't spectacular. The Chicago Dog was a little better... The blue relish was really tasty. A plus was the huge bucket of fries, those were good. Would I eat here again? Nope. Once was enough for me. Had to add a star for the milkshakes. They are really really good. read more

Devil Dawgs - South State - Really retro! - Hot Dogs Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Classic 'fast food' but done properly with solid customer service and open late. Sliders (5/5) The buns are soft and fluffy, the meat is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. These sliders are done right and I would recommend the Elivis and the BBQ Bacon Hot Dogs (4.5/5) These aren't fancy hot dogs by any means, but are fundamentally done right. My recommendations include the bacon cheddar dog and the Coney chilli cheese dog. The Chicago dog is somewhat disappointing compared to other places so that's the only one I'd avoid. Milkshake (5/5) Thick, creamy, and absolutely delicious. The one thing I really appreciate about these milkshakes is that they aren't too sweet. I went with the strawberry oreo milkshake but there's so many combination here and it's really really hard for me to not order a milkshake every time I come in. Overall a fantastic place to eat and the only real reason for me not awarding that fifth star is because the prices are a little bit on the higher end. I know you get what you pay for but if they increased the portion sizes or decreased the prices I'd happily give Devil Dawgs a five star rating. Nevertheless, this is still a great place to eat at and the food usually comes out quick! read more

Went here on a whim for a snack. Wanted something local. Was very pleasantly surprised by the service and food. While I csnt remember the names of the dogs we chose, one was beer battered and deep fried. The other was covered in grilled onions and pickles and bacon. Only dissapointing part of the meal was the bucket of cheese fries with bacon and grilled onions. Didn't expect cheese sauce. But also the way it was served the fries were not crispy and we ate in the restaurant. So it wasn't a matter of taking it back to the hotel. Think they need to double fry the fries or cook them a little longer. read more

Perfect place to have a taste of Chicago Hot dogs! Clean, fast, resonable price in downtown! And it is on state street. Worth to go.

Great selection of dogs and shakes. The kids loved it, and I loved the vintage devil dogs style art all around! If you are a devil dogs fan, you gotta check this place out. read more

Quintessential Chicago here. Excellent hotdogs with fresh ingredients. Also, their milkshakes and fries were awesome. Only complaints were that the line seemed to move slowly and there was not enough space for the few tables they had. Grab your food and go and you will have a 5 star experience. read more

I'm not going to lie I never thought I would be writing a bad review for one of my favorite places to stop and eat. I get there yesterday as I'm sure most of you who have to this location know you need to pay to park in quarters or credit card. I unfortunately did not have a credit card on me just cash and need quarters I go inside Devil Dawgs and Manny S I personal saved this receipt on purpose just so I had your name because I still can't believe you said what you said to me. I simply asked Manny can you please break this dollar for quarters I understand that Devil Dawgs is not obligated to have quarters , but for him to tell me no that's not my problem go next door or go look around somewhere for quarters that it's not his problem to go figure it out that he could care less if I have quarters or not then to top it all off they had my order wrong I don't know what he told the other works and I'm not 100% sure something was done to my food but I seen that you guys do have cameras why he called my number then turned around and took my food to the back where I couldn't even see what they did to my food I'm honestly just in shock this just went from my favorite spot in Chicago to never stepping foot in there again I'm not going to go pay money to get treated like a piece of trash and get that kind of disrespect because I simply asked for quarters and then for them to take my food to the back see now that's something my lawyer is going to figure out because I woke up throwing up so I don't know what Manny had done to my food but if you look at your cameras I ate there at exactly 7:35 PM on March 1st my lawyer will be coming in to get the video of why you took my food to the back after calling my number then stopping running back to the back while I'm trying to get you to give me my food please look at your cameras and see for yourself whoever runs this place because you should be ashamed of yourself if your letting your workers talk to your guests like that who are the only reason you guys stay open don't worry I'm sure with the kind of service I got yesterday I am not the first to deal with this and your business will fell the impact i don't care how good anyone's food is no one wants to get disrespected like that and then have there food taken to the back for I don't know what reason but I'm hoping there more then the upfront cameras because I need to see what he went back there to do to my food I have been throwing up all morning and need to go to the hospital but don't worry my lawyer is going to get a subpoena and get all the camera footage I need to see what was really done to my food they made me this sick. I can't believe out of the maybe 100 times I have been there that this would be happening or that someone that worked there would do that to any guest coming in to enjoy a meal not come in to get treated that way and have someone do something to there food don't worry I will no longer eat there again it's sad that a place like this so famous for good service and good food went to complete garbage I hope everyone around there is seeing this and watching out what is getting done to there food or god forbid they ask for quarters to pay the meter to eat at a place your dining in at your going to get your food tampered with and god knows what else !!!!! read more

Good Chicago dog. Staff was personable and attentive. I only gave 4 stars because the onion rings we ordered was under cooked and mushy. We didn't notice right away as we took ours to go so we could sit in the park to eat. read more

Out of all the Devil Dawgs locations I've had this is usually the most consistent. The main draw for me is the shakes. My favorite is the banana split I always ask for a brownie to be added. My other go-to-s are the ChicagoBurger and the fries are decent. read more

Devil Dawgs is doing things the right way. Everything is fresh and delicious. The food is a 5/5. The one star was taken off because it was HOT inside. Which while it didn't bother me a bit, I can see where it would really not appeal to everyone. Here is what we got and how we liked it. THE CHI:STEAK BURGER, NEON GREEN RELISH, ONIONS, YELLOW MUSTARD, CHEESE, SPORT PEPPERS, TOMATO, PICKLE & CELERY SALT - This was a fun twist on the Chicago Dog, my only complaint is that it was TINY, which is great for portion control, but if you are hungry and only getting this, get two. YAHYA CHICKEN SLIDER: BOB MARLEY INFLUENCED JERK MARINATED GRILLED CHICKEN THIGH, GRILLED CABBAGE & ONIONS ON A SLIDER BUN WITH AWESOME SAUCE - While the flavors were good and the chicken was cooked well, there was some tendon-y bits of chicken which turns me right off. BUFFALO DAWG- LETTUCE, BUFFALO, RANCH - Super tasty, super juicy, quality dog. Honestly you could put anything or nothing on these dawgs and it would be pretty delicious. The quality of meat they serve is on point. Fries with Devil Sauce- Fries were decent, devil sauce made them awesome. Ended with a Strawberry Oreo Malt - sounds weird, tastes awesome, bits of strawberry in it, tasted fresh and not overly artificial. read more

@Caleb G had the same situation. Placed an order. Then saw on my CC statement was $3 or $4 more than was charged at register. Went in confronted person who said he was manager. Told me about tip option @ top of screen. Never heard of this. Let alone automatically charging someone a tip without telling them. Said I had to speak to accountant about refund. Who wasn't there that day. Guess they just counting on people coming in so drunk. They don't realize what there being charged. Won't be eating there again. read more

Great vegetarian menu. Best veggie dog. The service is great. With so many hot dogs to choose from in chicago this is a good one. Fries and onion rings are good too. Cheers read more

Save your money and go somewhere else. This place isn't that good. Ordered a dog that had grilled onions. The onions were not freshly grilled and tasted like they were pre-made in a large batch and had been sitting for a while. The onion rings were THE WORSE I have ever had, greasy, flavorless and extremely soggy. The only thing that I enjoyed was the peanut butter and banana milkshake. I will not be coming back here again....ever. read more

Was in town for a week and wanted to try a good Chicago hotdog. Devil Dawgs was the closest to my hotel from the internet search of top 20 places in Chicago. Happy I found it. Had the Chicago dog, onion rings, and strawberry Oreo shake and loved them all. Went back the next day to try the fried chicken sandwich. Definitely worth a visit when I return to Chicago. read more

Devil Dawgs has had my back these past 4 years through many late night study sessions, and even on days when I just needed a good shake to travel home with. The shakes are to-die-for, and I can never eat too many BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger (ALWAYS make it a double). DOn't forget to add a bag of fries, you won't regret it. My only complaint: They don't have a frequent flyer-card, if any place in the city of Chicago has seen me the most, its this Columbia College student staple. read more

I got the original double burger and added grilled onions! Very sloppy but great flavor! The burger was very very small though but delicious. I also bought the Wisconsin brat. Basically a New York with a brat. Good dog. The kraut does have a different flavor than my homemade kraut I make at home. I definitely would go back! read more

Excellent. I visited this location on a business trip to Chicago, as it was my first time in Chicago, and of course I couldn't leave without eating a deep dish pizza and a chicago dog. After picking up a personal size deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati's across the street, I came here to make sure I got both iconic foods in my stomach before I left. I ordered a Chicago dog, and the woman working the cash register asked me if I wanted it to be a Devil Dawg, which she described as being a bigger hot dog. Sold. The pickle and sliced tomatoes were really fresh. The pickle was crunchy and tasty, and the tomatoes were crisp and juicy. The peppers gave the dog a great kick, and the bun was soft. This place is a great stop to grab a quick Chicago dog (as well as burgers, fries, and all kinds of other hot dogs), and all of the components in the Chicago-style Devil Dawg I got were terrific. read more

Great food - the burgers are a little bit pricey for how small they are (think sliders), but they were delicious and all the ingredients were high quality. The fries and milkshakes were also delicious. I had a bit of a long wait in a mostly empty restaurant, but nothing too absurd. I'll definitely go back next time I'm nearby. read more
