On Sundays I usually have to wait an hour or so to catch my train back home after work, I saw that this place was close by so I decided to give it a try. The space was pretty small but it was packed wall to wall that night. Due to the crowd the wait for the food was a bit lengthy, about 35ish minutes from the time of ordering, but I genuinely mean it when I say it was worth it. I decided to go with the Vegan Dog, "Chicago Style" and a bag of "o" fries, both of which hit the proverbial spot. It had been a remarkably long time since ive had a chicago style dog, and this was exactly what I have been missing. Needless to say, I shall return. read more

Favorite ting place in Chicago. I enjoyed this place that we randomly stopped at. My hot dog was great! It was a the perfect temperature and the cheese was melted perfectly over the bun. The restaurant is very small inside and it does seem to be busy pretty often. This place is a must!! read more

Definitely just had a fatty moment. Had the morning burger..fried egg, bacon, and cheese plus an order of their fresh cut fries. The burger was good and the fries were kind of hard, not the best fresh cut fries I've had. Would I eat here again? Yes for convenience but probably wouldn't think of it otherwise. read more

If you want some Chicago dawgs while partying in downtown this is the place to go because they open late at night, 3AM that's right. They've got variety of dawgs that you can venture, but I went for the Chicago dawg for a starter. The dawg was juicy and got all the key ingredient, but one thing that set me down was the bun. It was a little bit mushy for my liking. Also, they serve fresh cut fries but for some reason they were mushy as well. They also serve burgers here although I did not order any of them. From the look of it, these burgers are pretty small, reminds me of White Castle burgers. This joint is not too big so on a busy day you might want to have it to go and things can be a bit hectic so be sure to pay attention when your order is called otherwise you might miss it. Overall, I think this place is okay and I can see a lot of improvements. I would still rather go other dawg joints if they are not close. read more

Late review. I was here about two weeks ago for a conference in town. The atmosphere did feel very, well, lively to say the least. My party and I came it fairly late at around 9 or 10 maybe. The place was still packed and despite that, we got our food fairly quickly. The food options are very extensive with something for everyone. I recommend the Elvis burger. The food itself was fantastic and definitely worth the money (which wasn't much) and the wait (which also wasn't that much). read more

Really relaxed atmosphere where you can head after class or to get hot dogs for a great price. Service is fast and the milkshakes are my favorite. Also definitely order a side of devil sauce because it's spicy and can transform your dog or fries into a true Devil Dog dish. read more

My cousin took me here when I visited Chicago. Great city with a lot of interesting traditions, food particularly, and the Chicago style hot dog especially. I've heard stories about this thing and googled it, not being able to wrap my mind around such a weird concept. After coming here though, I have to say that now I'm a believer and I'll never look at hot dogs the same again. The dog had a pretty good "snap," and the relish was really neon. We had a small bucket of fried to split which were good too. This place has a lot of other hot dogs that I'd like to try out later whenever I come back to Chicago again. read more

Came here immediately after landing at the Midway airport because I needed to try my first real Chicago dog and Portillo's was farther from our hotel. The Chicago dog was delicious, as was the Chicago italian sausage. I would pass on the onion rings. Their special sauce isn't that great either. Overall, quick and reasonably priced place to grab a bite! read more

Got the late night munchies, then they're worth a try! Right down the road from my hotel and they did the job!

Really really good drunk-after-the-bar food. Open late. Hits the spots. The double cheeseburger with a bag 'o fries with devil sauce. Mmmm.

Solid food joint, travelers like myself, will enjoy it but be weary because the service wasn't too good with my group. Grant it, the burgers and hot dogs were great, so in that case go for it! O, also the pretzel and caramel shake was by far one of the best I've ever had. Come here for the food and stay for the shakes. read more

Hot dog was fine, though sloppily assembled. Mustard everywhere. Fries were cooked well and portion size was good. I'd avoid the fountain drinks though...either they need to filter their ice or they need to clean their soda lines. The bottom of my cup was lined with black sediment. read more

Maybe it was an off night but I was pretty disappointed. Service and food were both "meh". I just don't get the hype. I've definitely had better hot dogs. I've also had worse but the price is a bit high for hot dogs that are just ok imo. read more

Had the slaw dawg and the buffalo dawg vegan style sausage. It was pretty good. I put the Diablo sauce from the onion rings because why not lol? The onion rings are always really brittle (which I wish they would change) and this time they were really rubbery. read more

Chicago Dawgs were tasty, all the good toppings you would expect. The New York Dawg is also good. I wasn't crazy about the fries, I prefer mine crisp. But my Wife loved them. You can get tots if you prefer something crunchier. Tried the house sauce, awesome sauce, and cheese sauce. My fave was the awesome sauce. All in all, good dogs and reasonably priced! read more

I've ordered several hot dogs from Devil Dawgs, including the Chicago, Boykin, and Southern Slaw Dogs. All of them were decent but none great. One thing I noticed about the hot dogs that was somewhat troubling is how the person preparing it didn't use gloves and on more than one instance I've seen the cashier step over to the preparation station to make hot dogs without washing his hands first - gross! The one thing I did really like about this place was the shakes - they're huge and tasty. I'm giving three stars because the shakes were great, but if you're looking for high-quality hot dogs, I would recommend U.B. Dogs. read more

Right when I thought I had the Chicago hot dog lingo down...I didn't. I confidently walked into Devil Dawgs and asked for a hot dog expecting the cashier to reply with a "everything on it?", and I confirm yes...meaning a Chicago dog with everything on it. Well bam! My assumption that "give me a hot dog" was universal in Chicago for, "give me a Chicago dog" was incorrect. So the cashier asked what type of dog I'd like, so I asked for a Chicago dog and a chocolate malt. Now this is the best Chicago dog I've had out of the last 4 venues hot dog I visited in 2 days! The chocolate malt was way worth the late night calories!!! You have to try this place. 5 stars in my book. read more

Ok, that hit the spot. Take out of hot dog, onion rings and a clucker sandwich. Counter guys were efficient, friendly and burly. Chicago dog was everything I expect of a CD. Right mix of squish and crunch and snap. Could've used a bit more celery salt, but overall solid. Rings were battered grilled onions. Carmelized and sweet as candy. Ate some of the chicken sand and saved the rest for breakfast. It was gigantic and delicious. A bargain at 4.99. Overall impression - Crunchy and buttery. the pretzel roll was pillowy but chewy - able to hold in the juicy fried chicken and the mystery sauce and a hint of slaw with a slight bite. Thanks Devil Dawgs, you did right by this out of towner. read more

Whoops...posted my review on the wrong location. The following review is for the State Street location. One thing that confused me was how all of their burgers were sliders, when one menu item specified that it was a slider. That made me think that the other burgers were all regular sized--no biggie, but it would have been nice if it was clear that all their burgers were slider sized. Regardless, the slider that my friend and I got were pretty tasty (although the price was a bit high for what we got) The devil sauce is a spicy mayo kind of sauce, and it definitely packs a punch compared to other restaurants'. It's perfect to go with your fries, and speaking of fries, this place sells them in little buckets! Definitely a generous portion, although the fries could be a little less greasy/soggy. My friend got the milkshake, and did not like it. All in all, it's pretty good food, and it's some place I would probably prefer if I was drunk, but nothing that I would trek out of my way to get. Especially since this place is CROWDED with Depaul students that will be bumping into you, and in the way, in their inebriated or stoned state. read more

It was ok!!! I had always heard that when coming to Chicago you've gotta have pizza and a dog. I was looking for something bigger and more exciting. The dog was still good. I had two different ones just to see why was up. The shakes are good! read more

Came here on a Friday night around 7 and wasn't much of a crowd. So it was nice to get in and get out. The location is kind of out of the way but not too bad. As for food, I had a chili cheese dog and shared fries with my girlfriend. The chili and bun were great but the dog itself was very tough and kind of reminiscent of something you might get at a 7-11. My girlfriend had a "hey dog" which is just a regular hot dog and you can choose different toppings. She agreed with me the dog itself was not very good. It might of just been an off chance but I probably won't be coming back. As far as hot dogs go I'd stick with Portillo's for a quality dog. read more

Ok....it was sooo good. Just happened to be walking by and had to stop in to try. Green chilé cheddar dog was amazing. Will be back for sure. read more

Very good hot dogs. Very helpful and polite staff. My only concern is that the price for 2 hotdogs with fries or onion rings and a drink is about 20 bucks (plus parking). Little excessive imo. Other than the price concern (this would also be considered a premium location) everything was very good. If it wasn't so pricey I'd probably go more. Maybe I'll try a burger next time. read more

I've wanted to stop in for awhile. The first time I had went our order was given incorrectly so we had to wait quite some time before we got our other order. The reason I wouldn't go back to this place is that they really over stuff their dogs with fillings and sauces. By the time you go to bite into your hot dog the crunch is gone, the filling is falling out, and the entire bun falls apart due to be soggy. read more

They have officially lost me as a customer. I tried to place an order today for delivery and waited 80 minutes for my food to be delivered. I reached out to eat 24 to find out what happened and apparently the restaurant was not delivering today (that I can understand) but they did not call me to tell me because they were supposedly so busy. That is unacceptable and shows you don't value your customer at all if you can't have even one worker reach out for the minute it will take to say sorry we aren't delivering today. read more

Posted hours says they close at 10 pm - went there for a late dinner at 9:35 and doors were locked and employees just ignored knocking on the door. Guess employees wanted to go home early - won't be coming back here (explains why other location went out of business) read more

I went here for lunch on a Wednesday and I had a great meal. Lunchtime hadn't picked up yet, so the manager took my order at the register and answered any questions I had about the huge menu. I got a double kickass burger, a coney dog, and I split a salty pretzel caramel shake with a coworker. The guy making the shake split it up into two cups for us, and gave us both our own whipped cream and cherry on top. All the food was delicious. I thanked the manager on my way out. I told him I was there because a food writer friend told me to check it out. He remembered my friend and replied with a smile, "You came here because of him and didn't try the Elvis Burger?!" So I guess I need to come back and try the Elvis Burger next time, which I'd be happy to do. read more

Yep, it deserves Karma 5 big ass stars! Delish food and the prices are cheap considering their location. Don't think hot dogs are your only option. Their burgers are fantastic as are their fries. The place is clean, the workers are friendly and will answer questions about their large menu. They have some of the best fresh cut fries I have ever had and just last week I had their chicken sammie. OMG, life changing. On a pretzel bun (OK, pretzel buns are sooo 2012 I know!) and it was juicy flavorful and paired with the fresh cut fries I was a happy skinny chick pretending to be a fattie. So happy to have this place in the south Loop. I think they may have another location. Not sure about that but I don't care because I love this one. Go there and thank me for my awesome review. This place is great. Wonderful combinations for burgers and hot dogs. Everything tastes great. Met a friend there and they didn't mind that we talked for 20 minutes or so before ordering. Location is great, it's on/near campus for Columbia and Roosevelt and open late, which makes it a great and favoured hang out by students. Everything is great I'll definitely be there often, but heads up, the mushroom burger slides all over the place. read more

Hot dogs are good and pretty big compared to other places. They are also known for giving a lot of fries and I agree.
