Went here most of the week during IML as it was close to the hotel, and open late. I tired: - Taco dog - bucket of fries with cheese bacon onion. Second visit. Chicago dog, Bull Dawg. Decent hot dogs. Very fast service. and they have Coke Zero! Prices are also super resonable. Why only 3 stars? Well I felt I had a better Chicago Dog at the airport, and the Bull Dawg was downright nasty. It came on a giant and very stale bun, and it was greasy and gross. Would I eat here again? Absolutly, just wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. 3.5 stars. read more

How is this place rated so high? Got two dogs fries and a slider, $20 isn't too bad, the dawgs left much to be desired. $4.50 for a hotdog I can make at home (seriously nothing tasted different than store bought) 2/5 for me read more

Came here with my bff because Franks and Dawgs was closed. I got the kimchi dawg thinking that it would be as amazing as F and D's...wrong. My friend got the Chicago and Taco dawgs and enjoyed them both. My pinneaple shake was the highlight of my meal. read more

Walked in pretty close to closing time and apologized to staff- but they were all really sweet! Only wanted a chocolate shake to celebrate my birthday! Seriously the most amazing thing ever! I was just in the area for the day, and knew I had to get a Chicago hot dog straight from the source. Devil Dawgs rated well, and customers has great things to say about the dogs in particular. The hot dog was snappy, the pickle good and sour, the tomatoes fresh, and the onion biting. All tucked into a soft poppyseed roll, this hot dog was exactly what I was looking for! If you're around, I highly recommend Devil Dawgs for the Chicago dog. Thoroughly satisfying! read more

The food is good and the milkshakes are terrific. The prices are also pretty much fair for Chicago although a bit on the high side depending on which "dawg" you order. If I were only rating it on the food and price I might go as high as 3.5 or 4 stars. However, given the following I can't give this more than a 2 star rating: (a) You can't call this restaurant directly for a carry out order. If you do call, they refer you to Grub Hub. This is a first for me and I hope it's not the wave of the future because I'm not always in a position to log in and use Grub Hub. Seems it is in the restaurant's best interest to take phone orders and I'm surprised by their refusal to do so. I ended up taking up space in the restaurant standing around for 10-15 minutes waiting for my order to be prepared. (b) I don't think the staff is always friendly. In my experience they're better in the day shift, but it seems as though nobody is really that happy to be working there. This place could use some sincere smiles and "thank you, come again" type comments for the customers. Instead they just shout out the order number and leave the food in a brown paper sack on the counter. (c) I think it is inappropriate for my receipt to include suggested tip amounts (15%, 18% & 20%). This is not a sit down restaurant. Why would anyone tip at a restaurant where they serve themselves? It would be the exact same thing as McDonald's or Burger King suggesting customers tip their employees. It's inappropriate and lowers my rating from three stars to two stars. One big difference between Devil Dawgs and these other restaurants is that at least Burger King and McDonald's have restrooms... (d) How can a restaurant that has any sit down space at all not also be required to have a restrooms so customers can wash their hands before eating? They're serving food that is eaten with one's fingers (sandwiches, hot dogs, fries, etc) and there are no utensils provided, yet they have made no provision for facilities to wash hands before eating or even a hand sanitizer station. I don't understand how a restaurant with this many tables and chairs could get licensed in the City of Chicago without a restroom for their patrons. (e) While I think the milk shakes taste great, it bothers me that they have customers grab their own straws. It just doesn't seem sanitary. I watched another customer touch several straws before grabbing the color she wanted. These straws aren't sealed in plastic or paper. They're in a box standing on end, exposed, and there is nothing to prevent others from touching the tops of every single straw. I would be really surprised if this practice were health code compliant. Until some of these shortcomings are addressed I can't continue to give Devil Dawgs my business or recommend it to others. read more

I'm visiting from Cali and find this place on Yelp. The wait time is ridiculous! I've been waiting so long for a slider that I could have traveled 10 miles to a White Castle, gotten my food, and came back BEFORE they finished my order. I timed my ordered... 25 MINUTE WAIT TIME read more

Awesome dogs and fries. The shake was very good . Chicago knows their dogs! Highly recommend .

Food is amazing but the service is terrible. If you are getting to-go be sure to check your order because they often get it wrong because they are understaffed read more

I loved Devil Dawgs! I actually ate dessert first, I started with their banana milkshake. It was DELICIOUS! Fresh bananas and vanilla ice cream. It doesn't get any simpler or more delicious than that. Following the huge milkshake I had their Chicago style hot dog with all the classic toppings. Tomato, pickle, sweet relish, mustard. It was delicious, however the pickle overwhelmed the taste of the dog a bit. That may just be the 'Chicago Style' though. I ended up picking it off halfway through and the hot dog was delicious! I loved the sesame seed bun. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Chi-Town. read more

Are you one of those people who removes the pickle immediately off their plate so that the juice doesn't touch any of your food? And if some juice happens to get on your fries, you won't eat them? If so, I can relate, and that's why I never thought I would ever eat a Chicago Dog. However, since this was the second time the boyfriend and I had been in Chicago together, I thought it was a now or never event. Also, I was willing to try it since he was picking it up for us while I stayed in the hotel room (thanks Jon!). Thanks to Devil Dawgs, I am now a fan of the Chicago Dog. The hot dog was delicious, worth the cost (that my boyfriend paid...) and definitely the perfect midnight snack. Also, shout-out to them for getting me to eat my first whole pickle in the entire 28+ years of life. I came here for lunch and it was decent nothing special. The burger was so small but the fries were very good. The staff was nice and the decor was cool. The tables were filthy which wasnt too cool. However, it is a decent place. Would I recommend? If you have no other options yeah! read more

Just ok, nothing extra special about the actual hotdog itself. Ordered the Chicago dog, taco dog, chili cheese dog and a burger along with onion rings and chili cheese fries. Nothing extra special about any of it. Wasn't terrible but not sure I'd go out of my way to go back. read more

You would think that a chili dog would be the perfect late-night food after making the rounds at various jazz clubs around town. My husband sure did, and I went along for the ride. But oooof, I was not impressed. The employees were friendly, but the interior was pretty grimy and the clientele made me nervous -- evenly divided between loud drunk people and falling-asleep-in-their-milkshakes drunk people. We got our food to go. Our hotel was just a couple of blocks away, but a few minutes later when we unwrapped everything there, it was pretty unappetizing. I had a bite of the Coney Island dog and while the hot dog itself was fine, the bun was smushed and soggy from the chili that was also . . . sweet?! Why would you do that to ground beef? The fries had congealed together into one big mass in their styrofoam bucket, and they had the same chili topping. No thanks. It could be that this kind of food is only good when eaten seconds from the fryer; I also hated Five Guys the first time I tried it, but eating in the restaurant I liked it better. Still, I can only rate my experience, which fairly awful, and with so many options in Chicago, I can't see a reason to return here. read more

This place was not very far from our hotel and since we were in Chicago we had to find a hot dog place. I am so glad that we picked this place. I had the Chicago polish. It was scrumptious! My friends enjoyed their dawgs as well. They had the blue devil and Wisconsin brat. I also had the peanut butter chocolate shake and it tasted like a reeses peanut butter cup. That was the greatest milkshake! It was more than enough to share, which was good for my friends because they were jealous they didn't get one! read more

After a lackluster food tour and horrible deep dish pizza from two Chicago area pizza places, I was starting to lose hope in finding any good food in Chicago. Devil Dawgs to the rescue. I had the hotdog with Chilli and cold slaw because I already had a "Chicago style" dog from another place the day before and it was just basic. But I liked the Chilli and Slaw dog at devil dawgs. I also had the chicken sandwich with the fried egg and bacon. Also pretty good. If I'm ever in Chicago again I will try again. read more

Cool, friendly, around the way spot. Vast menu of exciting combinations to try. But the hubby and I stopped for a "Chicago style hot dog". We were under whelmed. I must admit I am a huge sucker for a great dressed up hot dog and Devil Dawgs does not disappoint. I went for the more exotic Seoul Dog, which is a specially spiced wiener with spicy mustard topped with kimchi. It hit all the right notes for a unique taste. Maybe it's because my hot dog standards have been set high ever since my trip to Hot Doug's right before it closed, but I found this place underhelming. First of all, the hot dog prices were nothing to write home about. I ordered the bacon cheddar dog for $3.95 and found it unsatisfying. If I'm spending more than the cost of pack of hot dogs from the grocery store on one dog I'm expecting it to be worth it. It wasn't. The cheese was hardly melted and the bacon was unnoticeable. The dog was cooked well, so there's that. I also ordered the Dark Chocolate Ghiradelli shake for $5.25 and found it disappointing. Yes, it was quite large but it tasted like any old chocolate shake. It also wasn't as thick as I would've liked. Basically it was nothing that would make me say "Gosh, o'golly, I need to come back!" This place did seem to be quite popular, though. The location is quite small and there are very few tables. I ended up having to share the long table at the front with 2 other groups. Apparently everyone else was enjoying their meal. I may try it once more, especially since I'm in the area all the time. read more

The food is great but the Chocolate peanut butter shake is incredible. Best shake I have ever had. Seriously try one.

This is a relatively small spot...well, when are hot dog joints ever that big. There are a few tables to sit at if you choose to dine in. I had the Sig Ep dog and shared a bucket of fries (with bacon, grilled onions and cheese) with my friend. The hot dogs here are pretty small but they do pile on the toppings so it balances out and ends up being really filling. The fries get soggy quickly with all the cheese on top, but they're still delicious. I have yet to try the milkshakes here. They look amazing. There's always next time! read more

Stayed in Chicago for a few days, and we were determined to get our hands on some Chicago hotdogs. All the other hot dog places that were recommended to us were either so far away/unreachable by train, and closed at 4:00pm. Seriously?! How hard is it to get a legit hotdog in Chitown? Found Devil Dawgs in proximity to the Art Institute, maybe 10-12min walk. So many different appetizing assortments, we had 4 different ones. Each was delicious in its own way. Winner in my book was the SigEp dawg.. grilled onions, 'devil sauce,' and pickles. SO GOOD! read more

Dont mean to date myself, but this place is THE BOMB. A friend took me here raving about it and I was skeptical. Billy Corgan can take me out to eat any time, he was very right about this place. Greasy, fast-food at its finest. I had to try a Chicago hot dog while in town. This place rocks... hot dog texture was spot on. Hot dogs should always snap when biting down. I also got the Elvis slider just because it sounded so unique. Eh, I didn´t like the flavor of this particular peanut butter that much, but the rest of the slider was amazing. Crispy bacon, creamy sriracha.. yum. I got a ¨bag of rings with awesome sauce¨... the whole thing was awesome. The batter came off a little too easily, but I love homemade onion rings. A bag of rings easily can feed 2... the bucket of rings can feed 4. Perfect quick lunch on a wet day in Chicago! read more

Terrible! They never once took my order. I stood there for at least 5 minutes and they made eye contact with me and yet still did not acknowledge me at all. None of the workers helped me. I am Asian and a group of Asians came in after me and they received the same treatment. We were simply stared at and ignored, however the group in front us were Caucasian and had their orders taken promptly... It was obvious that it was our first time there so i am not sure how things worked in this restaurant however they were not welcoming or helpful in any way. read more

I went here two separate times. The first time I went, I got the oreo mint shake. It didn't disappoint. The large amount of oreo and mint was great and didn't take over the flavor of the shake. The second time I got the oreo shake, no mint since the husband doesn't like mint. Still just as good. I'll definitely be going back for the shakes. We also go the cheese fries with green chiles. So good! I think I'll vary my cheese fries a bit. I 'll have to try them with a side of the special sauce. My husband got the clucker. IT was good. He'd go back for it, the only problem was it was a bit over-fried. I think the variety they have is great. This is definitely a late night, cheat-day place. We'll be back! read more

They are definitely the best place in the area where I could get a delicious Chicago dog. I went out to do some things and I am deciding on where to stop for a quick bite and this place is the first place that comes to my mind. It's been a while since I last went to this place and I definitely miss it. I was so excited and when I got inside there were a quite a lot of people. On some situation, I do not really like waiting too long but this place is different there is nowhere to go to have a delicious food just like what this place has. I felt relieved when it is my turn to order. The staffs in here are really nice and friendly and they are also warm which fells really great. I was so glad when I got my food. Cannot explain too much but their Chicago dogs are delicious and just basically the best. It is so good and the prices is very reasonable too. I just definitely love this place.
